California State Polytechnic University Pomona

Ah, my beloved alma mater. Ok kids, campus is there to provide as long as you're open to accept. There are SO many activities, events, clubs, organizations and programs to keep you entertained. Above all, excellent education (engineering program... bldg 17!), brililant professors, japanese garden to break from studies, and awesome peers. The campus is big enough to roam and explore, but small enough to feel like home... stay in school!

Now that I am an alumni, I guess I should rate my alma mater. I majored in communications here at Cal Poly and I am already beginning to miss taking classes here. Let me begin by saying that the classes here are tough, but if you put in the effort to learn and actually read the text, which is something I always had trouble doing, you will actually have a good chance of getting a high grade in the class, DUH! The whole key to it is actually forcing yourself to sit down and study...but if you have a lot of friends that keep bugging you to go out or do something...then good luck! Luckily for me, I was able to divide my time and manage it wisely. Anyhow, the only thing I hate about this college is that right after I graduated they decided to expand the college and make it look a heck of a lot better than when I started, DOH! Although I hear that fees have been raised, I wouldn't have minded paying the extra fees based on the fact that I was getting a grant anyway. The best thing about this college, the class sizes were still at a decent 20 to 1, depending on which class you take, but since it was so low your access to your professor was fairly easy. If I had a problem or any questions, my professors were always available and ready to help me. I love that about the college, although it is up to you to seek help when you need it, but it also shows your professor that you are really trying. I'm sure they appreciate that. I was also given a career counselor, which I should have consulted with a lot more, but I think I turned out alright, I hope...But all in all, I think I made a great decision to go to Cal Poly Pomona, a lot of great memories here and a lot of great friends made here, in addition to all that, I received a great education here. GO BRONCOS!!!Oh, I miss the basketball classes the most!!!

If you are looking for a frat party, you are in the wrong college. If you are looking for some education, and be a productive member in society, you are in the right place. All I can say is that I love this school! I still have jobless friends that went to UCLA and USC. Good schools don't really guarantee you a big pay check, the reason is that it really depends on the major you choose for each school. This school has a system that some people can't really get use to. You have to be very self motivated, and really have a passion for your major. The school has a strong Engineering and Computer program, but I think they need more improvement in their Art and Music Programs. I was in the CIS program, and I can't tell you how many times I want to quit , all because it was getting way too stressful. I would never forget the times stay up till 4 o'clock doing Java projects. However, I'm glad I made it through, because later on I realize that the computer industry really respects Cal Poly's graduates.

I spent most of my visiting time in the library or near administration offices. Its difficult to commute here from the other side of the county. My boyfriend isn't planning to go back. Sometimes it smells because its next to the campus ranch. The concrete is so well designed but you're generally living surrounded by beige and gray.

My alma mater, I graduated in 2000 with a kickin' CIS degree. I know everywhere else, it's MIS or IS but here, it's CIS! I guess I was the rare few to actually live on campus in the dorms. Several dorms actually! I was even an RA, basically a hall monitor. I love the campus because it green and it doesn't feel like we're in a big city. I love the small duck pond because every spring you would see lots of baby ducks trailing the mommy duck. I love the rose garden. It's said that the Arabian horse that modeled for Snow White's Prince Charming's horse is buried here forever fertilizing the lovely roses. I love the CLA building because it's weird and thoroughly modern looking. And no you can't see LA freshmen! It's also where they filmed the Gattaca movie. Excellent movie, you should watch it!I went back a few weeks and nostalgia hit me hard. Seeing all the students rush to and fro while I meandered. I was amazed by the changes since 2000. The bookstore is bigger. The student union is complete and has more fun stuff to do. Heck, they are finally expanding the library! Parking is still crappy so I don't miss that. Plus, my cousin is attending in the fall! Yay cousin!

I cannot stress how much I hate this school. I regret not studying harder in high school to get into a WAY better university :( Sigh. I currently attend here as a Sophomore and if I had a choice, I'd go somewhere else. I'm studying…

Us Broncos rock harder than a slab of granite at a Guns n Roses concert...and that's HARD. WURD!The fact that Calpoly is a commuter school doesn't affect CPU's world class academics and culturally aware community of prime DNA-carrying intellects. Those that eventually graduate have been proven to be selected INTO the jean...gene...pool of hot-sexy-babies and go on to become the next generation of social network Web 2.0 promoters and all around good guys.Although I graduated with an excellent business degree in CIS that opened more doors imaginable, the most influential courses were my American history GE classes. CPU's history department is a collective of independently conscious professors and lecturers. We're Calpoly Pomona -- we're not slo(w)!

PROS:-Faculty focuses on teaching rather than research.-Engineering students get great jobs, usually.-Great scenery.-Every department has their "star" professors. -Variety of resume building activities for grad school.-Student services are easy to access.-Big bang for the buck!-Faculty is very approachable. CONS:-No school spirit.-Difficult to get choice of classes.-The majority of students are low effort. That is, they don't try and so make classes boring. But they usually get weeded out at the intro level.-Poor job placement for majors OTHER THAN Engineering, Business, and Agriculture.-Many professors are under-qualified (That does not mean most are, just many).-This is a commuter school and thus lacks a vibrant social scene. RESULT :: Go to a UC if you are set on grad school. A Cal State will get you a job though, if that's what you want.

I'll admit that I didn't start out my undergrad years at Cal Poly, but I did finish off my last two years here and compared to where I started and where I've been.....Cal Poly was really a great experience for me. I loved how the class sizes were small, my teachers knew who I was by name, the advisors were great, and the head of department even knew who I was. There's lots of great "clubs" and things to meet people. I was in PIHRA...a great group to belong to when you are an MHR major!I was a big-time commuter from Temecula and never really had any problems finding parking. I made great friends that ended up being in all my classes since we were on the same track.
