Went there once and will not return.  Rude service from some employee who could not make an iced vanilla latte to save her life!  So sad.  If there is more experienced employees, let me know.  I like to go to coffee places other than the commercial ones.

Best hookah in town!!!! by Roberto G

This is not... the first hookah lounge i've been too in fact this the last one i have discovered thoughout my travels from west coast to east coast. The only thing i can say is the service, quality and aptmophere is excelent. I come here every day and i am welcomed by big smiles friends. if you need took take time off from works hassle, you need to just simply study, or your part of the night life and just wanna have a great time, then Cafe Lulu's is the best place to be.

Not a huge fan at all. I hate the tobacco they use and they charge too much. The service there is okay but they are not willing to do much more than what they have to do. Not very friendly. I've had better.

This on my "I'm in San Diego where should I go?" list every time I'm here.  I love the atmosphere here: the people you're surrounded by are generally very friendly and aside from the occasional group of college kids acting out to get attention it's a very relaxed and calm bar. They might have the best rose shisha I've ever had and the waitresses are quick to bring new coals. Sort of random, but they also have pretty good margeritas-who would have thought? Great music, great people, great shisha...maybe I should go back tonight just to make sure my review is accurate :PThis spacious cafe has a low-lit, swanky Morrocan vibe to it.  Red rope lighting along the ceiling in combination with the dark furniture and walls gives it a burgundy hue.  Sort of like an opium den.  Dark curtains hang low against the windows as cushy booths border the inside front wall.  The electronic music playing left me no choice but to bob my head or groove some other body part throughout our stay. They boast quite a different selection of coffee beverages.  Their own Cafe Lulu is the not-so-common raspberry mocha, one of my all-time favorites.  We perused the bake case filled with sweets, cheesecakes, beers and other beverages, but as we had just eaten we decided on coffee instead.  Holly ordered a mocha with amaretto syrup I believe, and I went with a single vanilla latte.  It was about $9 for both drinks, which is to be expected for specialty espresso drinks downtown. As many other reviews have stated, this is a hookah bar.  I'm interested to try out some of their flavors.  Given that it is about $25 for one (not sure how many coals you get), I'll have to wait until I have some throw away funds.  The guys at the table next to us seemed to be enjoying themselves though.Despite beautifully presented beverages complete with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and served in glass mugs, I was not terribly impressed.  My vanilla latte was more sweet than coffee which left me wondering exactly what I'd paid for.  Perhaps I should go or a double next time.  Holly's was also very sweet, but she liked it enough.  We sipped slowly, enjoying the quiet of the cafe in contrast to downtown's own "Look at me!" syndrome.I've said it before, I don't frequent downtown unless there is a place worth going to.  Lulu hasn't hooked me quite yet, but I'm down to give it another shot in the future, hopefully with some hookah and a stronger coffee drink included.I used to be a really big fan of Lulu's, but as of recently I'm in search of a new place.I used to go to the hooka lounge a lot with friends. I would go with the Marines I work with every Sunday as a way to close out our weekend before going back to work on Monday. We would get a couple pieces of cheese cake to split amongst ourselves and, depending on how many we had, a hookah or two. We used to be able to do three people to a hookah with no problem.Apparently they have changed their policey recently. Now they only allow two people per hookah. We always get the wine base so to have to buy a second pipe for one other person is really silly and quite expensive. They used to have belly dancing there once a week. When I heard the owner was looking for a belly dancer to start dancing there again I went to Lulu's on a day he was working to offer my dancing to him. He was quite cold and kinda rude when I spoke with him. After speaking, I wouldn't want to work for him at all.I like Lulu's for the fact that it has a little more room then Fumari's, but I would rather just smoke at home. It's cheaper and you don't have to listen to 18 year old girls scream and act stupid all night. The decor is cozy. The hooka is very tasty. They have a great beer selection. Waitress was quick to replenish coals. Overall I had a good experience. While the decor is fantastic...the service is motivating my not so great review. There were probably about 5 people in the place including myself and two friends on a Sunday afternoon. My friends ordered coffees and I asked the waitress for a glass of water. My friends get their coffees....still no water for me.I decide, well it's past noon, so it's an acceptable time for a glass of wine.I go up to the counter to order, since it seems I could be waiting the rest of my life for her to return to our table. I wait there for no less than 5 solid minutes for her to stop doing whatever it was that was so important....I order my wine, and remind her that I had also asked for water, which she assures me she will bring to me. Back at the table, my friends are 3/4 of the way finished with their coffee and I am still beverage-less. About the time that they finish is when I FINALLY get my water and wine. No apology, no explanation...nothing. Had it been even moderately busy, I could have forgiven the lack of attention and lack of service. But no, it was simply that the one and only waitress in the place was about as interested in serving me as she would be interested in eating a shit sandwich. And, no...I didn't order food, Thank Gawd.

I love coming here!  Nice, chill spot.  Come here for some hookah and just have a beer. Their hookah flavors are pretty exotic.  Hookah is pretty expensive though.  $25 bucks!  Most people go to Fumaris because its cheaper over there, but it gets more crowded. This place can fill up quickly, but on a Monday or Tuesday night its pretty chill and relaxing.  When I get around to downtown again, I'll sure to stop by.

I've always loved meeting up here with my good friends.  I've never been here on a weekend, so perhaps I've missed the overcrowding some people mentioned in other reviews?  We always had plenty to choose from in terms of sitting, and I always went for that cozy little spot in the corner.  All the coffee varieties I've sampled were always good, along with the pastries.  I also like that they have wine.

not only was the cake un-edible because it was so old, but the service was crappy!  the waitress refused to bring us water 'because its against their policy' and was downright rude to us.   bad bad bad!

It's your average spot downtown to hang out in the mornings with a cup of coffee and chat with friends... at least that's how I see it. I've passed by on weekend nights and see it packed with hookah smoking folk. I've never tried the night-time coffee shop here, but I'm sure it's decent. I do enjoy the food and drinks during the morning hours here though, it's quite good.
