This is my favorite hookah lounge I've ever been to, and I've been to quite a bit in San Diego. It's a nice place to hang out with friends, whether they smoke hookah or not, and you get more for what you pay for. I live in the bay area but continue to only buy my sheesha from the Egyptian Tea Room!

I went here to support a belly dancing classmate that was performing here. My beau and I took his 5 year old daughter and she loved it. The coffee was ok, her hot chocolate was too hot,  it was very cramped but the performance was great. I haven't smoked shisha/argilla/hookah in forever but I do plan to try there's out one of these days, when his daughter isn't with us.I haven't been to too many coffe houses in San Diego so my basis of comparision is limitted but compared to the Hookah shops of Orange  and Riverside County that I used to frequent, this one was just OK.

Decent coffee, but the owner can really tend to be a jerk. I was there with a group of friends during the winter sitting outside drinking coffee and he refused to turn on the outdoor heater for us because we hadn't spent $15 yet in business so it wouldn't be cost efficient for him to turn the heater on. Needless to say I've never gone back except when I'm with hookah fiend friends who like bad service....

Egyptian Tea Room is the name of the establishment. I arrived on a Friday night a little bit before 9 pm. After having traveled to Egypt, I became observant to decide whether the name was fitting or not.Was there an Egyptian vibe?Negative.Did I see any Egyptians?Negative - but there were some dirty looking scoundrels playing a guitar outside for open mic night.Where there any plush couches, Egyptian cotton, luxurious silk, gold statues, or nice pillows to make me feeling like Cleopatra while smoking my hookah?Double negative - nothing too comfy. In fact, the couch I sat on stank. Was there a large variety of sheesha?Possibly - except they had run out of every flavor of sheesha I wanted. Was the place clean?Quadruple negative.1.) The bathroom smelled like a Cleopatra's servants feet who was out fetching her men all day.2.) This establishment is small and has plenty of corners. I felt like I was in my grandma's house.3.) The smell that was emanating made me lose my tea-craving. 4.) Again - the couch I sat on STANK like two oily Egyptians were getting their boomboom on all night. Also, parking is a little difficult. It is in the college area, so it's a hippy hang out for the students. Not sure if they had wi-fi. There's is outside seating for when you get your hookah sesh on and they card like mad. They made me walk a block and a half to get my ID out of my car. Prepare yourself, the Egyptian Tea Room is quite pricey for it's mediocre service, food, drink, and sheesha.Did I enjoy the Egyptian Tea Room?Let''s just say we ended up leaving and going to Zodiak's. =\

I love that they had different kinds of hummos, and the olives were great! We all ordered something different to eat, and though it took a little while to get our food, it was ok because there were games to play. the kebabs were delicious and it was really quiet while we were there. Definitely will go back!

I enjoy going to cafes because 1) I love coffee and 2) it's relaxing. I drive by this place all the time and it always seems busy (especially on Sundays). A friend and I decided to try it one day and it looked like a typical "hippie" cafe with of course Egyptian decor, hence the name.It was early noon on a weekday, so it was empty and there was only one employee in the entire place. She was nice and recommended on a few of the coffee drinks. We ordered our coffees and as well as a BLT meal. It took forever to come out, but then again she was the only employee there. It's a low key place if you want to hide out and/or study there.

A really chill place to hang with your friends. The hookah is really good for a moderate price...there menu recently changed so I haven't had much on the new menu, but I love the yerba mate and homemade brownies. It can get really crowded when there are are belly dancers and open mic nite gets really repetitive because its always the same people, and the place looks like it needs a good scrubbing (like most cafes do!) I've never had any problems with the staff, very friendly and helpful when trying to decide what you want. They have quite a selection of vegetarian food and the Sunday Brunch is delish.

This cafe and hookah lounge serves all three daily meals.  I have never had any so my assessment of it is based on the few teas and coffees I've guzzled down, which were all average.  The snickers mocha is one of the specialty drinks and didn't provide me with much elation.  It was like drinking an Irish coffee without, well, the Irish liquor part of it.  Thus it was a bit too hazelnut-ish for my taste.  The service is impeccable however, and the Egyptian artifacts-filled interior is kind of cute.  The owner is super helpful and diligent serving you.  I like their hookahs for sale and the variety of sheesha they offer, although the pomegranate flavor is a big miss.  One of the definite charmers here is their assigned customers parking spots that will save you the trouble of scouting for one

This place has real character.  I've come by a number of times and really enjoyed it. The food is pretty good and the coffee is better than any of the chains.  What I like most of all is the selection of hooka flavors - and they really seem to take it seriously.  I've had some in other places where the flavor isn't too consistent, but at the ETR I've never had a bad experience.  I only with they had a little more parking, but I've never had to park more than a block away.
