We passed Istanbul Hookah Lounge on our walk home from the Gulf Coast Grill last night and decided to pop in. I've only been to 1 other Hookah lounge- so I don't have a lot of experience. However, I can say that the 2 (owners?) men working last night were very nice and we have a great time. It is a pretty large place- with tons of leather couches and a couple flat screen TV's. I have never seen more choices of flavored tabacco anywhere... we tried the apple and it was VERY good. There are 2 reasons why I wouldn't give it 5 stars:1) no liquor license yet (but they do have an extensive refreshment selection2) loud hip hop music just not my style.

This place is great. It feels like I'm back in the streets of Istanbul at 3 am after a night of the clubs. Batu and his father run a great shop with EXCELLENT hookahs. They're Turkish rather than Egyptian, so the experience is unique to this place rather than the hundreds of other Egyptian hookah bars. They also make excellent Turkish tea and have cards and backgammon to play. It really is a place removed from the Bosphorus.

I am such a fan of this place! A friend of mine was just driving in the area, found the place, and invited me to go the next day. It's a large place with plenty of comfy leather couches, open late (even after clubs close on the weekends), tv screens (hopefully they will show football soon!), and they will have sandwiches in addition to the snacks soon. I have smoked hookah many times, and I have to say that this was the best actual machine (just my opinion). I would've preferred slower middle eastern music, but I can see how those coming from the clubs or on their way to the clubs would like the hip hop music that was playing that night. Anyway, this will be my new lounge!
