Its happened a couple of times and many friend agree, they are just grumpy employees. I mean, they love to chit chat about all the wonderful bars and clubs or things they did the night before and they will get to you when they feel like it. I waited patiently once for 25 mins for a smoothie and finally inquired that I may have been skipped over as many people came and went after me. They questioned me like I was a criminal lying to them, then the barista arguing that she made it and wasn't responsible for other patrons swiping it away which she claimed had to of happened. Cool, but can i get the smoothie a paid 6 bucks for, remember the 4.50 and 1.50 tip i left you at purchase!!!!! they begrudgingly made me the smoothie and I moved to the rear fo the building where some friends where laughing cuz they knew how bad the service could be.The place has chic comfort feel to it but a lot of the furniture is broken, like really broken. You cant lean to hard on one side of some chairs as you might fall over. The quality of the drinks are debatable, some too sugary and some fine. If were in the area we hit it up but me no mas!

The living room is glorious on a sunny day.  Sit near the open windows to the ocean view and breeze.  The coffee is one of the best in town, next to pannikin, but the pastries could be fresher.  Sandwhiches are good.  It's a must for shoppers or beach goers to refresh.

3 stars: deceptively looks better than it tastes. The Place- came at night, don't know about the daytime.. but lots of seating, comfy chairs, decently intimate hookah-cave atmosphere. Live DJ, interesting music; VERY variable crowd. The Service- friendly, but not particularly attentive/professional. Maybe distracted/understaffed? The Stuff- Lots of variety. But quality? Teas we had were so-so. Hookah was good. Prices so-so. Recommendation- best option for a laid back night of hookah/drinks/friends, but not Quality in any sense.I wanted to like this place...I wanted the reminiscence of the coffee shops from my hometown, the jazzy atmosphere with a perfectly brewed cuppa, but alas...nothing like it.The staff was friendly, but the brew wasn't as good as I had hoped - a bit on the sweet side with my mocha.  They have some pretty inventive plays on their drinks, and their pastries/snacks are decent.  When it comes to etiquette (like getting your goddamn feet off that chair you're not using so I can sit down, you hooligan), some of their younger clientele are...how to put this delicately...jerks.  Anyways, they don't have much control over that, but it does add to the atmosphere.A good place to stop by if you've got an inkling and are in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way.If you're in downtown la jolla...and you wanted something to keep you warm or keep you cool. The Living Room Coffee is the place. they have a good selection of ice blended drinks as well as nice warm beverages. I've been here a few times.  In the summer I like to order their tropical blends..and if it's at night time, a nice cup of latte just warms me up!They also carry food / desserts - havent tried it .. looks okay.I don't understand how people loooooove the Living Room.  Meh, I think everything is pretty average here.. for an above average price, of course!  I usually just get the soup and bread, or some sort of dessert.  They're OK, satisfying enough.  The atmosphere is nice.. I guess. The living room has such a cozy artsy vibe!  I love the various pieces of artwork on the walls...…

So used to LOVE this place, but now that I live closer to state, I think I like that one much better.Service is so-so, sometimes alright, sometimes non-existent. I always get their Chai latte and they have yet to disappoint, much better than Starbucks or anywhere else for that matter. Their mini tiramisu cakes are pretty yummy too. (And reasonably priced for a coffee shop in LJ)It's always crowded, especially outside. So you plan on smoking a cigarette, plan on inhaling not only your smoke, but 10 other peoples' as well. I tried smoking hookah here once, and only once, it's ridiculously expensive and hard to use when you're crammed 3-4 people to one tiny ass little (and grimy) table. I wouldn't even attempt to make conversation with your friends outside as there are always obnoxiously loud and inconsiderate little "trust-fund" kids (as someone else put it) running around. ew. I only come here if it's convenient. I suggest you do the same. Thought about giving it 3 stars but after re-reading this, I knocked it down to two.
