I'm surprised this place has gotten such awful reviews. People hate this place because the staff are Hispanic and not Asian?? Seriously? I also can't stand cream cheese in rolls, but there are other options. You know you can ask them to leave off the cream cheese if you don't want it. It's not like they're premade...I admit, I've only been here once. Ate here solo on my way to the airport after a neuroscience conference in SD. I'm a fan of non-traditional fusion sushi places, so I really appreciated the latin flair.I had some sashimi (which was pretty average) and some kind of spicy roll with plantain. I loved the roll and haven't had anything like it since. I'd try it again the next time I'm in town.

While not the best sushi place in the world, Sushi Itto certainly has its charms. Don't come here expecting authentic Japanese food, but do come here expecting good food. Everything was good but not great, but service was excellent. If you're here, do try the grilled edamame, it's great.

They had some interesting rolls, but the overall quality was not up to par. The prices were also not reflective of the food served. As far as San Diego sushi is concerned, they are a little below average.

If I wanted service as slow as damn turtle I would have gone to the zoo for dinner. It's such a shame because I really enjoy their sushi, especially hooky on the beach... but just I see from reading other reviews I am not the only one who thinks their service is horrible! One time, I went to eat there solo, AT THE SUSHI BAR, and the waitress still wasn't doing her job! The sushi chef was who I had to ask if I needed anything since he was right in front of me, easy target... I don't think going to eat sushi restaurant should be this impossible of a mission...

Great location, cute little logo, worst service ever though! My date and i were convinced the waitress was "special". Nothing wrong with that, but the bitch was the worst waitress ever! However the roll we ordered somewhat made up for the horrible customer serviceI love Sushi and decided to try this place across from Horton Plaza to see if it's any good. I know why it's empty now.The selection was boring and really expensive. There's nothing authentic about this place and the Sushi was just Ok. There are many other sushi places that taste better than this place. I'm not going back and would recommend for you to not even bother trying this place to find out for yourself. It's really not worth it.Do Not Enter. If you've had sushi before don't come here.supermarket quality sushi. worse than Ralphs or albertson's sushi. this restaurant uses jasmine rice, which makes the rice dry and firm... they're suppose to use japanese sushi rice!we should have taken it as a sign when the gaslamp was crowded but there were only 2 people eating inside this restaurant...we were hungry and looking for cheap sushi but this is expensive for the quality. 2 beers 1 roll and 1 tamago sushi for $36?! too bad cuz the location is prime and they can have soo much more potential.Spectacularly bad.My only excuse for having eaten here is that I was new to San Diego at the time, and there was no Yelp then.Sushi is uniformly bleeaaah and potentially harmful to your health.Service is almost as bad as the food. Maybe the servers feel guilty in their complicity in assaulting innocent consumers? It's almost worth a visit to see just how bad a restaurant can be and yet still endure because of a very good location and smartly designed logo -- and proximity to a high number of one-time visitors -- i.e., tourists. For some reason back in college I'd always come to this place thinking it was great ... but wow, what was wrong with me. Now that I've tried many other sushi places I can definitely say that I don't think this place is any good. It's located in such a great corner in Hillcrest... which is why they get at least 1 star. The sushi isn't very great, and the service is pretty bad. Food takes forever to come out and it's really expensive.

I've been to many Japanese restaurants. This one was...well, it lives up to everyone's suggestion for a nickname to this place, Sushi SHitto. First of all, my buddy and I walked in a read the sign "Please wait to be seated". So we waited for five minutes, eben though the restaurant was empty at 5:00pm. We were both wondering why we have to wait to be seated when there was no one in the restaurant. The Latino cook was cutting fish. He finally acknowledged us and got someone to greet and seat us. That's right, he got someone to "greet" us! He didn't even say hi. Usually, THE WHOLE STAFF at a "REAL" Japanese restaurant greets the customer. The food was ok and pricey. We got 3 orders of sushi, 2 drinks, and ice cream for $33.62. Our server asked how we were doing 3 times which gained some points for the restauarant. My friend's martini was sweet, but she said it was strong. Cream cheese in sushi? What a concept. I had that before, but I rather have dairy products out of my fish. My bad for not mentioing it before I ordered. The loacation is on the northwest end of the Gaslamp. I know a better and more authentic Japanese reastaurant that's a couple of blocks away. It was nice and clean, but the greeting part was messed up. Here, I'll make an excuse for them. Maybe he just punched in. I dunno. When I go to a Japanese restaurant, someone better make me feel welcomed the moment I walk in. Never again!

The first thing you notice when you walk into sushi itto is that the entire staff is Hispanic, which is not a bad thing. It's just if I'm going to eat Japanese I'd like to see someone Japanese at least try and trick me that your food is authentic.I ordered a sake bomb from the happy hour menu, which was disappointing. The sake was weak and watered down. The California roll was small and unappetizing. The only good item on the menu was the edemane which was cooked in a soy sauce mixture. I would not go here again.

The last time I was ate at Sushi Itto was last year for my friend's birthday get together. I couldn't remember what I ordered. I decided to give Sushi Itto another chance to see if it was really worth it. Usually I research on Yelp before going to a place but I didn't check this time. I actually wished I had. I took my friend here for her birthday since she wanted sushi. This was the only sushi place open at that time. The place was fairly empty with exception of a couple customers. The place was clean and the overall look was quite inviting. I ordered a Miso Soup and Dot Com roll. My friend ordered the rasberry saki and the new Ahi Karai Roll. The Miso Soup was good. It had a lot of mushrooms, which I liked. However, the rolls were a different story. Inside the dot com roll is smoked salmon, yellow tail, crab surimi, avocado, cucumber, cream cheese, smelt roe paste and eel sauce. The overall taste was okay. The only thing I liked was the cream cheese after taste. The new Ahi Karai rolls was a bit different it had a more spicier flavor. It had wasabi mayo, smoked salmon on top, pineapple, and other things. My expectations were really high for the Ahi Karai roll since it was pricey. I was disappointed it didn't have that "WOW" factor. It was more of an "Ehh thats it?". I was expecting more of a pineapple taste but I could hardly taste it since the wasabi and the spice flavors overpowered the taste. Another thing I noticed was the rice they used. It wasn't so soft and chewy. You expect that restaurants in downtown are a higher caliber but this one is disappointing. In my opinion, you're paying for the overall downtown type. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

Me and my friend came to the gaslamp in intention of going to Sushi Deli. By the time we arrived,it closed. As a substitute, we went to Sushi Itto instead.Big mistake. The first thing you notice when you walk in is......no asian employees. In fact, our waiter barely spoke english and got our order wrong, I recall asking for a description on the curry and he murmured something...it was followed by an awkward silence and a "...yeah...i'll take that ". The sushi and curry was horrible to edible. I ordered deep fried ice cream in order to see if this place could redeem themselves. Nope. Who wraps their deep fried ice cream with no poundcake? It tasted like it was wrapped in some sort of tortilla.Robert-os, Filibert-os, Ric-os, Sushiit-os...get it?
