Stars for the old Kush. It's too bad to hear from a lot of people that the new Kush is a very different experience. My friend used to adore one of the bartenders here and we'd go during a weeknight when she worked. I remember the first time I was here. We strolled in and there were only a handful of people smoking hookahs. After 8 hours of travelling the last thing I wanted was a hookah or booze so I started loading up on coffee. Pretty strong, tasty coffee, mellow vibe, Moroccan decor and unique music. I guess the upscale club experience has taken over?My friend thinks that Kush is a couple years past it's prime now and maybe that was the reason for the big facelift and change.

Me gusta! No problem getting into this place on a Saturday night and no frills either. But once inside, some seriously fun DJ dance music and hookahs galore. Good ambiance, with a sort of cave-like atmosphere where you can peer from one room with a bar into another set up around hookahs. Also, good bar service. The 'tender broke a glass when she set it down on the bar for us and didn't charge me or my friends for any of our drinks after that. SCORE. Have a few cocktails and then join the impromptu dance party, the music won't leave you a choice!

I went to Kush recently with 2 friends and, overall, I had a great time. It was a little bit of a rocky start...when we arrived we sat down at a table to get a hookah and drinks, but we were told that we couldn't sit there because they were saving it for people who want to eat. I could totally understand that, except that they wanted us to move to the bar and said they couldn't give us seats. Who wants to smoke a hookah and not sit? But when we told them this they decided it was ok and let us sit at the table. So from that point on, everything was great. We got the apple flavored hookah and it was delicious. Our cocktails were excellent...I ordered the Hanging Garden (w/ elderberry liquer in it) and it was fantastic. The music was very good and the atmosphere was very alluring....very beautiful and exotic decor. It was crowded but not too crowded and the people weren't overly trashy.Overall...I had a very good night there and I would definitely go back. I definitely recommend it.

I typically don't give bar/lounges/clubs more than 3 stars.. cause most of the places are the same. On night came here for someone's bday's party..( yes there are always bday parties) I was amazed by this placeHere are some reasons1. Hidden.. which is always a plus for me.. no sign in the front.. 2. you walked in.. the decor is like a castle.. LOVE IT.. not super crowded.. yes please I don't want to wear other people's sweats 3. Young professional crowded.. no underage kids or grandpa/grandma4. Hookah was JUST A-OK.. if the Hookah was better. i probably give it 5 stars5. Music was good.. although it's not a dance club.. there are rooms for you and your friends to dance off.. It was a fun/ unique place.. I would love to go back there sometimes.

I have been coming here from the past 2 years and everytime was unique and always a good time. (Always on either a Fri/Sat Night)I spent New Years 2009 here, with a great DJ and great staff and an awesome mix of people. The place is not too big so it has that nice comfy loungey feel to it. The music is different everytime I go, the DJ feels out the crowd and plays whatever gets everyone dancing. I reccoment getting a table and a hookah in the private section with a bunch of your friends to have the best time.If you want to make sure that you make a good impression on a woman bring her to this spot. It's nestled in between a couple of buildings on the LES. The service was impeccable. I've been there several times. That Morocco, Casablanca feeling on a subtle ancient/futuristic tip is there. There are enough middle eastern vegetarian options for the vegetarians out there to get their grub on while they take in the atmosphere. The warmth of the decor and interplay of light and shadow definitely brushes one's whole being so that it is as though nothing exists outside of this one spot. The hookahs..banging. I had the coconut blend. Add to that the DJ spinning non trendy hip hop with drum and base and you have a good damn night.I love this place. It's chill. It's quasi-candle-lite. It's like you're in the middle of Marrakesh, Casablanca, Fez or Tangiers, Morocco. The hummus is excellent. I used to DJ there awhile back and it was really incredible times I had there. I've been meaning to come back and do some more spinning there, but what an incredible environment to find oneself in at 2:00AM laughing with friends and mixing some sick world beats.Life doesn't get much better than that my friends. The overall space and size of the bar is nice. Also, the gentlemen at the door were friendly and personable.I wasn't that impressed with the bar staff or the decor. The decor was unoriginal and trying really hard to look high-end but just looked cheap and predictable to me. Also the dj had some interesting song choices...I almost felt like I was at a wedding reception and people were requesting songs they liked, it was that random. I don't think I would ever go again. Too many other places in the city with better bar staff and ambiance.

I will admit right off that I don't go out very much. My idea of a good time typically includes a board game, a glass of wine, and some freshly baked cookies. That being said, I do appreciate the occasional bar or club-type situation. I came to Kush for my boyfriend's friend's birthday party, and had an okay time. The friend ordered bottle service, so we got a table in the VIP section. The VIP section was ridiculously crowded, more so than the other areas. The staff was a little bit obnoxious when some people from our party sat in between our table and the table to the right (where no one was sitting yet) and asked them to move. As other reviewers have mentioned, the staff pushed people from our group several times when trying to get through the crowd. Sure, this happens sometimes, but there are more polite ways to move around a crowded room. The DJ was great - he played a mix of new hip hop, oldies (Aretha Franklin), some 80's and 90's tunes, and some international music. There wasn't much space to dance in the VIP area but we did anyway.I would recommend Kush for hookah and maybe dancing, but I'd avoid the VIP area on Saturday nights.

If there was a zero rating for this place that's what I would give it!!! I tried to book my birthday party with 2 other friends here and the staff was RUDE!!!! They did not let in most of my guests including my boyfriend because they said he had on jeans and yet most of the guys who got in had on jeans, then i had another friend who had on a suit and they tried to tell him he couldn't get in unless he brought a bottle!! This place is a rip off and I hope they get burned down or go outta business!! I know its harsh but hey they are a terrible place!

I like this place, although when we went it was totally empty. It was spacious casual, the music is great, and the dj that night was a nice guy. My cousins had a blast talking to him about music for a looong time. Anyway I love that it's right in my hood, sheer convenience!

decent place in the LES! they gave us a table without having to buy bottles since it was memorial day weekend - nothing wrong with that! music was good - a mix of top 40, reggae, and 80s. drinks are good, ny-priced. I like their mojitos. DJ doesn't listen to you if you request a song, but hey - - what can you do?Great place for a b'day or celebration, especially if you get a table! Nice middle-eastern-esque decor.
