I had the hummus, eggplant dip, green salad, saffron chicken kabob, and lula kabobPros: The eggplant dip was delicious! Well seasoned and not too oily. Both of the kabobs were well seasoned. I particularly enjoyed the ground beef kabob! The basmati rice was tasty as wellCons: I wish they hadn't topped the salad with canned beans. The chicken was overcooked. The carrots were a bit undercookedWell seasoned food. Delicious eggplant dip!

I went to Skewers on the first date with my boyfriend and we were both pretty nervous (silly I know). It was a Saturday night and we figured it would be packed. We walked in and were seated quickly. I think the waitress could tell we were on a date because she was on top of the service but tried not to interrupt too much. We both ordered the Saffron Chicken skewers and they came with rice which I have to say I loved. The chicken skewer had a slight lemon taste that honestly helped ease my nerves. The rice was yummy too. The plates are large enough for two portions and the price was just about right. Towards the end of our evening the back lounge becomes club-like and a DJ spins mediterranean beats...cool stuff...to top it off, they had belly dancers that night too...good job on the first date :)

delicious persian food. i wish it hadn't been so empty, but i think that's the case with a lot of modesto places. i was very happy with the mediterranean sampler plate. yum! haven't been there on the weekend.

I had to go to Turlock, which means one of two possible things.I am a migrant farm worker or I am of middle eastern decent.Turlock, for some odd reason, is like mecca for my peeps. Why Turlock?Regardless. On the way home, the whole clan stopped in Modesto for some kabobs. And I do mean, the WHOLE clan. Cousins, 2nd cousins, random dudes, 4th cousins twice removed. In our family, it all just defaults to "cousin." I don't even bothering asking my grandma who someone is. I just know the answer is going to be "he's a cousin."Skewers. What can I say. It's in Modesto. Not sure why you'll ever go there. But if you happen to be in the neighborhood, this is the only place I can actually vouch for. And it's a good one. Get the sampler and the chicken garlic kabobs. Yogurt.

Very simple elegant looking inside. Nothing too fancy just clean and nicely lit. There was a guy playing a guitar which was nice, people talking and laughing, it was a very nice atmosphere.FYI, Friday night = guitar guy, Saturday night = Belly Dancer.. ohh yeahh. Our server Robb, was perfect. When I explained it was our first time here he explained what Skewers is all about and highlighted some of his favorites. Without being an interruption to our dinner he was always there when we needed him. Drinks:The Top Shelf Iced Tea was right on target and the Sapphire Martini put a Smile on my face. Food: -The Mediterranean Sampler: For your first time definitely get the Sampler, Dolma, Hummus, Shiraz, Cucumber Dip, etc. You'll quickly learn what you like and what you dont. -Lamb Chop Kabob: Very delicious, maybe a little too peppery.-Shrimp Kabob: Grilled tiger prawns with garlic butter..yum.-Surf n Surf Kabob: Tiger Prawns and Marinated Salmon, whoever you go with one of you must order this one. ( all Kabobs come with Basmati Rice.)Dessert:-Get the Creme Brulee, it was enjoyed by everyone at our table.-The Triple something Chocolate Cake was awesome, everyone else was full so it was my pleasure to work on this one by myself.-The Baklava wasn't worth it.Final Thoughts:From 10PM they have a DJ, a nice little dance floor and Hookahs! I'd like to come back next time I'm in Modesto.

Skewers is awesome! I was there on their opening night and have gone back many times. Everything on the menu is delicious. You can be sure that you're getting authentic Persian cuisine too! My favorite dish is the Skew Salad. Its a Caesar salad with a skewer of your choice of meat. I suggest the shish kabob skew salad.Once you're done gorging on your food, top it off with a hot chai and maybe a dessert. Then take time to go sit outside for a hookah with your buddies and shoot the sh*t for a few hours. Wait there long enough and Skewers transforms into a full bar, with music and (on wednesday/thursday nights) karaoke. All the hosts are awesome and the management focuses on making the place as hospitable as possible. This place is great....I'd be there right now if I wasn't too lazy to drive all the way to Modesto.

I feel obliged to mention that even though Skewers is located "downtown", they do have a private parking lot, which deserves a star for convenience alone...I came here on a Tuesday, and my check ended up being a reasonable $20 for a lunch for two. I had the Saffron Chicken Kabob, which was flavorful and moist (a relief to me, since as with all good grilled meat, took a while to arrive from the kitchen). The Basmati rice was excellent, light and not dry at all; however, the Basmati rice that came with the spicy chicken was cold (not heated like usual). My girlfriend had the Spicy Chicken on the skew, which hits your palate sweet at first, then very spicy, but fades just as quickly... The zucchini that came with both plates were burnt, but the accompanying grilled tomato more than made up for it. I forgot to mention the complimentary flatbread at the beginning of the meal. Not very appetizing, but it helps to tide you over while you wait for your grilled entrees, which, like I said earlier, takes a while to come out of the kitchen. The service was okay; we had to wait a few minutes before we were seated, because the servers were in the middle of a conversation amongst themselves... Also, my girlfriend had to take more time in between bites of her spicy chicken because her water wasn't refilled promptly. Minor issues really, but deserving of mention nonetheless.

So I came here with 2 buddies, 1 whom was DJ'ing later in the night at Fat Cat. We also met some friends who were already eating dinner and about to smoke some hookah. All of us were from the Bay Area and pretty much our first time in Modesto. My experience is only w/ the appetizers and in the bar/hookah area. We ordered the Sampler and the Beef Teriyaki stick. I couldn't tell you what was on the Sampler, all I remember there was hummus and it was pretty good. But the Beef Teriyaki was simply amazing. I dont know if it was because we had been in a car for 2 hours and was hungry or it was really good. But i'm pretty sure it was awesome because it didn't last long on the plate. This was a Friday night we were out there and there was a DJ booth set up, so I assume they were having music that night. Overall nice location and good food gives it an A-OK

The food at Skewers is great! The only thing I like more is the atmosphere. Now those who know me know i like to drink, but they also know i like to drink where I can be comfortable. Every time I've gone to Skewers I've seen something new and i've had an absolute blast. the drink are well made and the crowd is often contained only once did i ever think there was gonna be a fight and it was between two girls fighting over a restroom. Anyhow its a pretty decent place and usually the second stop of my Saturday evening!

This place just gets better and better!I have never had a dish here I didn't like. Recently, I've been DREAMING of their garlic saffron chicken. Literally, people. The food is so good here IT WILL HAUNT YOUR DREAMS.The doogh (yogurt drink) is yummy. In my opinion, put yogurt in anything and it will be delicious. This doogh is mixed with carbonated water (or carbonated whatever they make doogh out of normally), which I guess isn't something done all the time, but I found it to be very refreshing. Skewer's is the best Persian food in the central valley, hands down. The Mediterranean Sampler is a…
