la boca is a great hang out. their paninis are good, and so are their coffee drinks. one of the only places open late where you can just hang out outside when the weather is nice and just shoot the s**t with some friend

Pros:- the atmosphere- Near Sac. State, so it's a good place to spot college girls!!! - Serve alcohol pretty soon (pending license)- Tango Night every Thursday evening from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m (instructors are there); beginners are welcomed- Live Jazz every Friday from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m - Crews are very friendly- Hours are long from 6am - 12am everyday- Story behind the owner, Max, is interesting enough. He was a professional soccer play in Argentina, Greece, and Mexico 1st division league. Extremely nice guy!!!- Outside sittings with heating accommodation- Italian gelato is served Cons- not the best coffee, especially Peet's coffee is right across from itAgain, the selling point is not their coffee. It's the Argentinean/European style caf. Strongly recommended

Edit: May 11, 2008 -- They need some new CDs.I have come to Cafe La Boca a half-dozen times, but silly me it's always when I haven't had coffee in awhile. I never plan these coffee boycotts, it just happens. But every now and again I'll say to myself: "I sure have been drinking lots of coffee lately. Shouldn't I be drinking water?" And there it is, drinking water and orange juice and cranberry juice for a month or more, completely forgetting that coffee and its related drinks even existed. Sometimes though, I want something tasty, caffeinated and doesn't cost more than a T-shirt on the sale rack at Target. I like to try lots of different types of drinks, so it's a major plus that the staff has always been patient and helpful. Last night, after much deliberation, I tried vanilla chai over ice and am happy to report that it was creamy, spiced and not too sugary. My boyfriend ordered a peach smoothie that actually tasted like fresh peaches. Our friend had two (!) frappes, which tasted rich and chocolatey. I think the best part of this spot must be their hours. Open till midnight every day! Why don't I go here more often? When we walked in, about 10 p.m., the place was buzzing with conversation and people typing on their laptops. Yes, unlike other coffee shops and eateries in the area, this one has free wi-fi. I haven't used it myself, though I plan to soon. Today, maybe. I figure I can do my employment research there, and have some nice coffee too.Goodbye coffee-drink hiatus, hello Cafe La Boca :O)

This is becoming a dangerous habit...their gelato that is. One of the few places in town that sells Ciao Bella gelato by the scoop and not just by the pint. It is dangerously close to where I work and live and as a result have hit it up for desert at least 4 times in the last two weeks (notice I said "at least"). Besides the gelato, which speaks for itself, my hubby and I have had the pleasure of getting coffee and pastries there in addition to their wonderful chocolate chip drop cookies and baklava. Their pastries are fresh and their scones are made on the premises as are the divine chocolate chip cookies. These little guys are LOADED...I repeat, LOADED with chocolate chips. They are chewy but not too much so and go great with a big glass of milk or your dunking beverage of choice (coffee, cap or ???). We've never had any of their savory items but that is next on my list. Coffee is nice and strong and I like the outdoor seating. It's a cool neighborhood spot that could conceivably give Peets a run for their money. Until I try the sandwiches, I have to give it only 4 stars but something tells me I won't be disappointed and I'll be back to give them their well deserved last star. Stay tuned.

I've seen this place while driving to Ettores down the street and decided to give it a shot this morning. Had it not been for the fact that my nonfat white mocha tasted watery and not at all like a white mocha, I may have given this place 4 stars. The two staff members in there were friendly and made conversation. I liked the look of the place: there was an array of breakfast pastries, a case full of cakes and desserts and a menu with lunch items such as paninis and salads. It is also a Hookah bar and they had a selection of wine and beer. It seems like they've got just about everything to please you no matter what time of day it is.I must say I liked the way the place was decorated and the art on the wall was cool.

this place is sorta cool, sorta not. i ran into a whole buncch of kids i know, all private school bums. either stuck up teenagers or creepy old men are there. they let us smell the hookah flavors which was good, but they didnt look very happy about it. they were out of our top two choices... its hella cheap but it was weak...the dude wouldnt let all my friends sit at the same table. you have to do hookah outside and there were six of us but he told us only three per table and the other three had to buy something to sit cause they were soooo busy. we ended up sitting at the same table though, he never came back. the only reason why id go back is cause hookahs 10 bucks compared to 20 everywhere else. the food looked like costco bakery items... so yeah.

Nice spot to work if you don't mind some occassional cheering from patrons watching the soccer games. Nice that this place stays open late, but I must admit that sometimes service is lacking. Nice variety of items from outside the US, which is always a welcome treat. Free WiFi is also nice.

This place is weird. Went over there on a date after eating at Fins just to get a cup of coffee. We go in there, and there's nothing but a bunch of old men in there sitting around doing nothing, and their not even drinking coffee. So we go outside just to sit down and talk, and there's more old men sitting out there smoking. We didn't have a problem with that though. What we DID have a problem with, however, was the uncomfortably loud old-a** techno music that was coming out of the speakers directly above our heads....wtf? this ain't a disco, it's a coffee house! If they were going to play something, atleast they could put on some GOOD music. We were just going to tolerate it until they started playing "Barbie Girl" (no I'm not kidding) At that point we just gave up and went to Mikuni's. The coffee isn't bad though, but it sure ain't Peet's.

Not so enamored with this spot anymore. This is due to the poor service and quality of goods in the evening. The guys running the cafe in the evening have no idea to how to maintain internet connection, make a decent mocha, make an edible sandwich, or provide prompt service. The night staff is too busy hanging out to get refills.I love the diverse crowd that goes there, booze, and hookah (even though I don't partake) but will avoid La Boca at night. The daytime or morning is much better. An older Russian guy gave me some tangerines during the day when I was working on my laptop just because. Spaciba kind old Russian guy. This is a cool spot and so different from Temple Coffee House, Java Lounge, Pete's, and of course…
