i've been here once and ordered a gyro and burger .. i was pretty hungry .. the food wasn't bad and service was ok. i was surprised to see they had hookah (i don't smoke though). i'm sure the owners are trying their best but this place just didn't do it for me. i haven't been back since, but to be fair, i haven't been eating out as much.

I came to TapEx at this location a good number of times with my friends, because it was the closest location with good boba tea drinks. Also, the popcorn chicken they served -- quite tasty. However, a friend of mine told me that the recently closed? or renovated? and have now become Gyros Express... and still serve tapioca... but that the people we always saw working there were no longer around. I haven't been back since the renovation, because I honestly don't think gyros and boba tea are a good combination (Mediterranean/Greek food, and Asian drinks). My friend checked it out but was disappointed in both the service, and quality of food.Next closest place to go for decent boba? I'd have to second Lollicup, though I'm not too fond of their boba or prices either.

This place isn't so much about the tapioca, or the express! Don't go if you're in a hurry, or you'll probably be frustrated. It's also not the best place to go for boba/bubble tea... I live nearby so I've been on several occasions. Once they had only tiny instead of normal size boba, once they didn't have any boba (or any tea), and once they gave me fruit jelly instead of boba. Lollicup Tea Zone on Howe is a much better bet. However, they've recently opened up "Gyros Express" along with the tapioca teas (or lack thereof), and it's a decent place to get a quick gyro if you don't feel like waiting through the lines at Opa Opa on J. It's also worth noting that if you're Muslim, Gyros Express meat is halal.

The funniest thing about this place is that its menu steals ideas from various parts of the world and tries to put them all together in what ends up as a mess -- hookah, boba tea, shwarma, gyros, baklava, AND Qur'an DvDs all for sale here.Unfortunately, the owner has an absolutely sour, self-righteous, ethnocentric attitude. When we entered, an old white couple was ordering their food and when the wife went to reach for a can of soda the owner said "those are not free, there are no meal deals here you have to pay for those. Nothing is free in America." Umm, OKay...When we went to order hookah we found out that he would not mix flavors because he didn't know how and there were only two people per hookah. He also made a comment about my nephew being underage and unable to smoke hookah. At first we joked that he already had a drink earlier in the morning and the owner responded "no, he's a good Muslim boy" I'm not sure how he knew my nephew was Muslim but he assumed nonetheless. He kept re-iterating that my nephew couldn't have hookah and I made a joke about "if this was Beirut"...to which the owner responded that he didn't care if this was Beirut or Afghanistan, they don't have laws in those places but in America they do.It was all a really stupid, juvenile, self-assured exchange so we just left refusing to give him $20 of our money and walked out.

My coworkers and I had lunch on Friday from Gyros Express - there were three gyros, one shawarma, three orders of fries and one order of humus + pita. The result? Not good. The only good thing about this place is that their meat is Halal...and that's about it.Mediocre gyros, a funky beef shawarma (with a random pickle inside!), limp soggy fries and decent hummus. The most unusual common denominator was that the food was oddly reminiscent of McDonald's food. There just happens to be a McDonald's right next door...coincidence? I think not! Well maybe...There was a lot of limp, shredded iceberg lettuce in all of the food as well a soggy tomatoes. The soggy fries (they put extra pepper on top...as if that disguises it!) Then there was the whole pickle incident. All common items found at the Golden Arches. The hummus wasn't bad, but it was fairly bland and they had put two sliced black California olives on top. The pita was warm but also soft. What gives? In the end, if you're desperate for some Mediterranean/Greek food that's cheapish, then go here. If you're not desperate, drive out to Sam's Mediterranean in Davis.

It was just a bit better than that chain called Daphne's--the Denny's of Mediterranean food--but that assessment is based on one very affordable gyro. A little harsh? Well, if you can't get the basics down, then you get two stars or less.I will have to say that it's close to my friend's place, is open until 9:30pm, has hookah (which I've never tried), has boba (?? goes great with halal meat?), and has 4-year-old People and Entertainment Weekly magazines if you wonder what Britney Spears was doing...back then. In the end, it comes back to the forgettable gyro. If I was a college student living on a budget and looking for a quiet place to eat and study, this place would be an option.
