Tuesday nights are "Fried Chicken Night", and they offer a prix fixe menu with 3 courses for $30. We had a coleslaw with greenbeans, cabbage, walnuts, bleu cheese, and raisins (?). Despite having an odd list of ingredients, this salad was awesome! We also decided to order a sushi roll as an appetizer. We got the Yo Mamma, which is crab (or spicy tuna), avocado, cucumber, and spicy aioli. The aioli was actually spicy (yay!) and the portions f crab generous. Main course was three pieces of delicately fried chicken on top of a malted waffle with black-syrup infused with bits of applewood smoked bacon on the side. If that sounds really heavy, it is. But SO good. Syrup infused with bacon poured over a battered and fried drumstick is really good, who would've thought? The desert course was a semi-flourless chocolate cake with cinnamon whipped cream on top. The whipped cream was really good and the chocolate cake only decent.Overall, I agree with other Yelpers, that they are still looking for their niche, but at the same time they are succeeding at not having a niche. Considering how many different types of food they can execute well, I'd say this place is definitely noteworthy! This is Sonoma-Japanese-American-Experimental-Homestyle SOUL FOOD.

Food has improved greatly. It's a good place to get away from the downtown noise. Get in early at specific hours and you can enjoy a relatively quiet meal.Food is prepared freshly and with care. Molly knows how to make very creative salads. They are all very excellent. Let's hope they can continue to be low key and good food. No michelin guide needed. Just mom and pop cuisine devoid of pretentious nature. My only quibble is that they have the two lamest beers on tap ever. Lagunitas and Blue Moon...Mediocre beers which don't compliment the food.A Duvel or Chimay would be best paired with the great salads and Sushi dishes. My french style dish was lacking. The lentils were not cooked and the duck was overly salted.I once…

Growing Pains. Some of us never stop having them. Take for instance, me. Sure, I had the vertical ones growing up - but no one ever said anything about the horizontal ones as you grow old. Assholes. Rocket seemed to have a Rocky start, but have found their groove and to my sheer delight/chagrin. How am I supposed to live so near this place and not go all the damn time? With the added enticement that they change their menu monthly to reflect a chosen theme, now I have to AT LEAST have to go once a month. Those Sneaky Rocketeers. April is French, so baked brie topped with toasted hazelnuts and poured over asparagus started off the meal with warm rolls, delicate pesto and of course butter. Thanks to me, there was NOTHING of this left by the time they came around to collect. Dinner was roasted chicken with brown pan sauce drizzled with that light pesto. Magnifique! Tiny new potatoes and wild mushrooms alongside were earthy and tasty accompaniments. Wine list is small, but you will find what you need. And if you don't order a beer and shut up. Atmosphere changes with the menu and is welcoming and fun. Service could not be friendlier and the food just gets better. So, thanks a lot. What am I going to do about that horizontal girth now?! I have a secret love affair with Ciabatta. I know, I know what you're going to say - it's because of…

After driving by the place a hundred times my beau and I decided to give this place a try. I was missing the old Sushinoma from past days and wasn't impressed with the new place down on Broadway. The ambience is cozy, service is very pleasant and the food is ok. We both had our own sushi rolls and were going to go in for round 2 when we decided not to and headed into the plaza for something else. I think the food is good, prices a little high and like a yelper mentioned before- growing pains. Still trying to find their niche. We will give it another try in a few months.

So hurry on in to The Rocket. March is Moroccan food. Next is April in France, so lots of French cheeses and sauces etc. I don't know what's next but, I got a tip off that October just might be German! YUMMMMM! So far Morocco had Belly dancers and hookahs, lets see what prim and proper France brings us. Get your passports ready and be prepared to be taken away. I have to say I really miss the piroshki from Mossette's but, Rocket Cafe is just the place to…
