This place absolutely stinks and not worth the effort, the service was an absolute joke (if you want to call it service). The waiters are rude and incompetent, the manager needs a lesson in honesty and hospitality ( she wanted to rip off me and my friends for the bill for a service she and her staff did not provide). In addition I wanted change for a $20 but was told by a barmaid they didn't have change for 20 dollars ( a restaurant filled with people tipping and paying with $5, $10, and $1 and you mean to tell me you don't have change for a 20?)In short avoid this place like an std. For more info read on Quiana J's review she's more in depth about what happened because I was part of that group. If you want to dine in the heights please pick some place else because Guadalupe is a joke.

Some friends and I came here last night to celebrate a birthday and I have to say, I was pleasantly impressed. I'm a huge fan of Mexican food and have found that most places just can't get it together long enough to cook a decent Mexican meal but this place was good. The drinks were nice and strong the way I like them. The guacamole was delicious. I want to stress this because not every Mexican restaurant can make good guac...this one can. We got two orders of the "medium" kind. I wanted the spicy kind but the my friends are weaklings when it comes to spice :/ Anyway, the meal itself (I ordered enchiladas w/tomatillo sauce) was very good. The portions were done well...not too little, not too much. The rice and beans were edible, not amazing but way better than the stuff you get at other places. My only negative comment would be the bathroom. It could use some better lighting and someone to occasionally go in there and tidy it up. Overall, I'd have to say that I really enjoyed this place and look forward to returning.

I'm glad that the option of good restaurants with a nice ambiance is expanding in the Heights! I personally am a fan of this place, my sister and her friends helped me discover it. They make the best Caipirinhas I've had in a while and the menu offers a solid selection of plates to satisfy your appetite. I would personally recommend the Mushroom/Seta cheese quesadilla. However if you're looking for gourmet type inspired Mexican food, this is prob not the place to go to.They have entertainment on different nights and always upbeat music in the background. Definitely plan on going back when I'm in the mood for drinks and a bite and want to stay local.

I like this joint for so many reasons: its ambiance, decor (yeah--bathroom sinks alone are pretty cool) and FAB Mexican menu. Not to mention the fact that it's conveniently located around the corner from my apt.!**I'm editing this review as service hasn't exactly been the best during the week. Brunch service is ok but things get a bit inept during the weekday dinner service. Takes forever and a day to get waiter's attention, then drink order THEN food order. Sigh...this is why I now only do their brunch.Brunch selection is good and nicely priced--their pico de gallo side salad is phenomenal. I keep trying to replicate at home to no avail. :(Regular menu is great; stellar faves are Lobster Corn Bisque soup (OMG!), the shrimp appetizer (coated in some amazing chipotle mayo, mango and garlic marinade!), and grilled skirt steak with chorizo rice (can't think of dish name).Live music on Wed. nights, I think, and DJ on another night during the week. You have GOT to save room for the dessert selections, though. The tres leches cake and Oaxaca Molten Cake (served with yummy mint choco-chip ice cream) are excellent! This is definitely one of Inwood's best kept secrets and well worth the A-train jump up to 207th.

Happy hour was awesome -- they have half price drinks on bottom shelf liquor, domestic beer, Mojitos, and house wine. Even after happy hour, drinks are a few dollars cheaper than downtown. This is why I moved here ;-) They also have DELICIOUS homemade guacamole. The place was really cute too. They have old Middle-Age thing going on: Old Painting reproductions on the wall, open rafters in a tall ceiling, back-lit stain glass windows in the bar top, and beautiful bathrooms. My bartender was a Serbian girl named Danielle. She was super-nice, and she remembered my name (which added that little something extra). I'm going to take advantage of this before everyone figures it out.

My favorite place in Inwood to eat. Happy hour is Monday thru Friday from 4 to 7pm. So you get 2 drinks for the price of one. I always have the Mojitos and it is by far the best I've ever had! Coming from the Bay Area California its the closest you'll get to authentic but its very good ! My compliments to the chef! I recommend getting the fajitas its enough for 2 ppl and delish or the veggie enchiladas mmmm! I took my friend there that came to visit from out of town and he lovvved it. This def my spot in the neighborhood. I can go with my 4 year old daughter who by the way loves the quesadillas or with friends. The atmosphere is very tranquil and they light up candles as it begins to get dark. I really wish they would connect a lounge next to it it would be nice after you've had a few drinks in. They also have flat panel t.v's and have the games on. Oh yes and the waiters give good service too ! very attentive!

May not be totally authentic mexican food but it's still pretty good. Had the Pollo a la Mexicano and it was pretty good but a bit too cheesy for my liking. My friend had the breaded salmon which was cooked very very well. And we had a flan at the end which they garnished? or decorated? with SPRINKLES lol. Never seen that before but it was a bit odd to me. It was really good though so no stars off for that one. Minus one star cuz it just takes a lot for me to give a place 5 stars lol. Would recommend for groups and dates but on a night thats not so busy.

Let's talk about those holy-looking people on the wall. The ones looking down at you with their halos and their robes and their tongues of fire and whatnot. Some real old school religious imagery, there. For some perspective as to why it's okay that these holy men are on the wall of a dining room containing an utterly hedonistic full bar, I gchatted up my art history friend. SHE: Well, that person looking out of the painting is probably a donor or a self portrait of the artist. And the tongues of fire is a reference to Pentecost. Fire of the Holy Spirit and all that. ME: Huh. That seems like pretty heavy decor for a Mexican restaurant. SHE: Mexico is a heavily Catholic country. ME: But then there's me, the lax Catholic, who just wants to have a couple good solid margaritas and make a night of it. That wall is guilting the crap out of me. SHE: Jesus isn't there. They are saints. They are inspirational. ME: Hey, I never thought of it that way! Thanks! Hooray! Now that our crippling guilt is out of the way, we can enjoy dinner! And enjoy it we do. Sure, Guadalupe has the staples down pat (burritos, tacos, fajitas, etc., even though they skimp on the guac and sour cream with the fajitas), but c'mon. You didn't show up for that. Guadalupe's menu has no shortage of nifty Mexican goodness like the corn on the cob with cotija cheese and spicy aioli, short ribs "el diablo" with just the right amount of "el diablo," and a twin set of heavenly marinated pork chops. They even have steaks and ribs for those in your party who lost the "where should we go to dinner" contest and are in the mood for American fare. (Vegetarian? Tough noogies. Get a salad.) Is it the best Mexican food around? No. And the service can be mighty poky. But it's certainly very tasty. And for Inwood, it's inventive. And their bathrooms have black toilets and bowl sinks filled with fresh lemons and limes, which I now want to have in the bathroom of my imaginary Caribbean beachfront villa. And that's just a hoot. Weekend brunch is a must. Two reasons: 1. "Guadalupe benedict," the restaurant's variation on eggs benedict. They substitute the english muffin for a slice of warm cornbread and top it with a chipotle hollandaise sauce. Oh baby. 2. They serves the strongest, spiciest bloody mary in Inwood. It tastes like tomatoes and rocket fuel. Guadalupe is located on 207th St just east of Broadway, but they undeniably cater to a west of Broadway crowd. (Don't ask.) For a while after they opened they didn't seem to get much business. It was as if Broadway were the proverbial train tracks and the restaurant was on the side that the intended clientele seemed iffy to cross over to. Lately, it seems they've been bustling. Good for them. PS: I promise my first born child to whoever can score me the recipe to that cilantro dip that comes with the complimentary nachos.

Guadalupe's menu is full of flavor and considering the renewal of the Inwood, NY area; Where is best to go after a day at the Cloysters Museum? but to explore the even more intricate old world artwork decorating this cozy family venue where South of the Border meets Puebla Chilaquiles and finishes of with the most tantalizing Strawberry Tres Leches cake in all in the Tri-state area to say the least... With a full stocked bar in spirits and wines... There is also brunch!

Extremely nice for the area. The Guadalupe sangria margarita are to die for. Slightly up there in price but this $13 potion is all worth it. I will try coming a little earlier for Happy Hour when drinks are 2 for 1. The guacamole and the salsa dip are very delicious and unique. My Currasco (skirt steak) with tostones were dreamy and I shared with my girlfriend. The decor was slightly spooky with the Guadalupe monks staring at you but I turned around right away before we locked eye contact....the decor seemed different with the tables and chairs it seemed as if I was at a monastery where we were being punished...The bathroom sink was full of apples and that was unique........I am going back ASAP if anyone wants to treat!!! ...LOL.....
