Nazareth is what Firdous on South Campus used to be: reasonably priced, seriously addictive Lebanese food.  Perfect hummus, delectable kebabs, even the lentils rice with house dressing is worth the trip.  All from an unassuming strip mall storefront.  I'm definitely looking for an excuse to go back.  Hey, my birthday is less than a year away!

I love Nazareth.  I work down the street and try to make it here once a week.  The rice and lentil dishes are where it's at.  My favorite is the spicy chicken (the hot sauce is made in house and is awesome) over lentils and rice with feta.  Their feta here is very good and moist, not dry and chunky like cheaper feta.  House dressing is delicious as well.  Love the hand cut fries and the baba is also very good.  They have good vegetarian options (my friend swears by the vegetarian grape leaves).  Prices are reasonable and portions are right on.The owners, Hany and Kim, are personable and fun.  If you are lucky, Karin will be your server.  She is a part owner and the place doesn't run the same without her.  Great place!

Well, I'm prepared to give Nazareth the benefit of the doubt, and think that our two experiences there were flukes. In all fairness, I would describe this place as average at best. Average food (the hummus wasn't great at all, imo) for average prices; the service, however, sucked. Ok, our server was cute and smiley, but she got our order wrong, didn't clear the table, only refilled glasses when asked, and was generally mediocre. I know it's not really comparable, but I think I'll stick with the Big Fat Greek Cuisina for kabobs, hummus, pita etc. Their food is consistently out of this world.

Compared to Pita Hut, which I reviewed a few days ago, Nazareth was way behind the curve.  It seemed to me that my sandwich and salad were just thrown together.  Sort of like comparing McDonalds to Max Erma's if you know what I mean.  It tasted okay but didn't have near the list of condiments that Pita Hut did.  I won't be going back.

Nazareth is a great place - best gyros in town, and their fries are excellent  - more the hand-cut style... not your standard generic bag of frozen fries here.  One thing to note that folks might not be expecting though - by default, Nazareth gyros include banana peppers.  If you don't want them though, just say so they'll be happy to hold them. But while the gyros (and the Chicken Shawarmas) may be the most common/most popular items, Nazareth has a full menu of Middle Eastern cuisine, featuring lentils, kabobs, stuffed grape leaves, hummus, and more.  Oh, and very tasty desserts as well.   Though they're on the pricey side, try the pistachio baklava - it's EXCELLENT.If you're lucky enough to go at a time when the owner (Hany) is there, then you're in for a real treat.  He's exceedingly friendly and very fun. They've also recently expanded the dining room yet AGAIN -- I think that puts them now occupying what used to be THREE separate storefronts there in Columbus Square!

I dig this place a ton. Here's why:- Well, the food for one -- great gyros, seasoned fries, lentils rice, etc. It's a sizable, varied menu, too. - The reasonable prices- The giant portions of baklava- The fact that nothing says Greek food like a huge mural of an American Flag and a Christmas tree. Oh yeah, you'll find them both at Nazareth.- The beer-logo clock that is placed within a Mediterranean-inspired mural. No, it's not as good as Big Fat Greek Cuisina, but it's still darn good. Do yourself a favor and check out this Mediterranean joint on the northeast side

I ate some of the best baba ghanouj here that i've ever had the privilege of throwing down my gullet. Smooth yet interestingly textured, smokey and delicious. The gyro wasn't as good, and a little pricey, but still passwable. The waitress was young, pretty, and pleasant. A relaxing atmosphere and a great place for lunch if you are in the area.

We all know a place like this.  A treasure lumped into an aging low end strip mall.  This is solid casual faire.  However, the ever present owner Hany puts it over the top.  It's such a pleasure in this city overrun with soulless chain restaurants to find an active, involved, ultra-extroverted owner with a great sense of humor.  He suffers from a terminal excess of personality.  He has asked my party on several occasions how our meal was...while holding an aluminum baseball bat.  It trickles down too...his staff is a delight as well.  They obviously enjoy working for the nut.The decor is a riot.  You will find a massive mural of New York City with flags, the Statue of Liberty, the late Twin Towers; folded flags gifted from deployed military reserve units; hookahs; goofball bumper stickers; the works.  I get it man, you love America.Ok, food:  very solid.  Spicy Chicken on Rice is great...it's got balls.  The optional feta will temper the heat a bit.  Hummus, falafel, lentils with rice...all solid.  It seems a tad out of place...but who cares:  his fries are outstanding, the best I've had in Columbus. The very good food, combined with Hany makes this a place I don't just enjoy eating at...but a business I want to support.

Don't let the baseball bat-wielding owner scare you away. It's all in good fun- and apart from having a good laugh when he inquires about the meal and service (with bat in hand), you most likely will have a sincerely positive response. The batty humor is his way of saying how much he appreciates his customers- and the customers definitely appreciate that he is in the house nearly every day. Nazareth turns out fabulous Middle Eastern cuisine. I was first introduced to Nazareth in 1999 and was instantly hooked on the Hoummus and Baba Ghannoug combo platter- and the french fries (I agree with everyone else, the fries are awesome!). I don't consider myself a connoisseur of middle Eastern cuisine, but I indulged regularly on Lebanese food while living in Europe and frankly, everything I have ever ordered at Nazareth has tasted good and seems comparable. Perhaps the authenticity is tweaked a bit for our American palate, but that's nothing compared to the restaurant's decor, which is 100 times more American than the food- right down to the NYC wall painting. I used to come here frequently for lunch, but in the past few years, I've managed to have only a few dinners at Nazareth. It's still as good as I remember and can be quite the entertaining dining experience.
