Was here a couple of months ago and had a great time. Ideal place to start your night. Delicious Sushi a diverse selection of Martini's to make all your friends happy. Nice deep house music with an Egyptian decor, talk about eclectic!Pros: Sushi, Hookah, Martini's Checked this spot out on a Thursday night while on a date. It's a nice, large lounge, with no cover…

i came here last night (friday!) at 1130 and it was completely empty. The dj was playing early 90s stuff mixed into some belly-dancing beats..but no one was dancing..since no one was there! around 12..a few people showed up..but it was still pretty empty.this place has really nice decor..and i don't get why it was so empty...i think it might be the location...since its past little italy and nothing else is really around that area...the martinis were quite interesting..they tasted almost like slushies..i tried a sip of a blueberry martini..very good!i'd probably never come here again though..its too far and too empty for my taste. i need a place where i can see and be seen :p

I'm not particularly into theme bars so the Egyptian tomb decor is kitchy to me. I haven't eaten here but do remember the bar service to be quite good. It seems to be hit or vacant. The last time I was there, there was a free party down stairs and a drag party on the street level. Until I form a more poignant opinion, the place is just "eh".

2.5 stars. My boyfriend was asked to DJ here on Saturday night by another friend, so despite the torrential rains of the latest tropical storm, we braved the weather and headed over there early to set-up. When we walked in around 9PM, the entire staff just stared at us from behind the bar and then continued to stare at us as we sat down. For a second, I thought they weren't open yet and we were intruding on their precious "pre-customer hangout time" until I saw another couple having a drink at one of the tables in the back. Having to ask for a drink and a menu when there are 15 employees standing around doing nothing is not exactly a good way to do business.Good Things:Big roomLots of comfy seatsDecent sound systemDownstairs room looked appropriately crack-denish and dark. Too bad we weren't down there.Meh ThingsDecor [a little too much Egyptian-themey-ness for my tastes. It reminds me of a theme park ride or something...]Sushi [despite it's randomness] was OK and was the only thing on the menu NOT over-priced.Bad ThingsRidiculously priced drinksRidiculously priced WEAK drinksBartenders who never once cracked a smile. They looked like they were in pain serving us.I didn't have to pay for the hookah, so that disqualifies it from the lists above, but it didn't seem too expensive [$25] and they had a bunch of flavors to try. Everyone who came into the place bought some - it's clearly the main draw of this place. As I get older [and we continue this journey into a full on recession], it gets harder and harder to justify spending $11 on a 6oz sized glass of mixer + small amount of cheap well liquor.Hard times call for hard drinks! This place has inspired me to invest in a flask, for real.

There isn't Necessarily anything wrong with people who will dance to anything. Admittedly, at first the group of kids who looked to be 17 dancing soberly and a bit stuntedly catches one off guard. And $14 may not be the amount you're willing to spend on a pomegranate martini. But go early on a Thursday night, and what more do you expect? The place is cozy, open to seated mingling as well as popping up from the couches to dance. Hookah is only $20, and there are a fair amount of flavors. I don't know how high one's standards should be for a high-ceilinged, Egyptian-decor'd den of deep red. But the dj, though not great, did play any song we requested if he had it. (One might question whether that's a good thing or not, but I only request the fun stuff you know you'll dance to anything) And the vodka tonic is $10. 3 stars for the bartender, uncomfortably witnessing a stripper do her thang with clothes on, and a solid buzz-basis on which to build an epic night.

How have I not reviewd this place yet? I've been here like 18 million times. What I love:-couches and cushioned benches everywhere but still a good amount of space to dance-different music upstairs vs. downstairs (although there often no one downstairs for some reason)-hip hop dj on friday nights-freakin good sushi (the Egyptian Dream is my shit!)-nice staff-no cover on Fridays and some other nights (just call ahead and ask, I've never paid more than $10 get in)-usually a pretty cool, mixed crowdWhat holds back that fifth star:-literally every single time I've gone I've managed to get the hookah pipe that was not fuctioning-the tobacco is wack, I can barely taste it usually...but I'm a sucker for hookah-crowds don't gather til VERY late (this can be a good or bad thing depending on whether you want to be in a place that's packed)Awful, awful, awwwwwwwwful. Do not waste your time and money at this spot.My boyfriend, his buddy and myself wanted to go out for drinks and hookah. Moomia seemed to get good reviews (I really really have no idea why), so we decided to trek over.Boy, was that a mistake. It took the waitress 20 minutes to come to us and drop off the menu; another 20 minutes to come to us and take our drink and hookah order; another 30 minutes to get our drinks (vodka soda with lime - what's the trouble here?); and after another 30 minutes, no hookah. The waitress just didn't seem to care. I even made eye contact, tried to get her to give us an explanation for all the delays - she flat out ignores us. No apologies when she brings out the drinks - nothing. So, we down our drinks and decide to leave. We ask for the bill, and we all agree that not in the sanest of minds can leave tip for such bad service. The bill comes - and there I see in small print "Gratuity 18%".I was astonished - and so were my bf and his buddy. Automatic gratuity on a party of 3 that ordered 3 simple drinks? Did I say that we NEVER got our hookah and the waitress never came by to check on us over a period of 1 hour and 40 dreadful minutes we were there? When the ignorant waitress came by to collect the money, my bf actually (and this was a first to see my bf be this way, after 3 years) said, "Sorry - we can' t leave tip. The service here was awful. We don't need to leave tip." And she has the nerve to say, "Sorry - this is on the bill. You have to pay it."Unbelievable. In anycase, I'm going to blame it on the management. If you're having trouble providing the right amount of service on a busy night, hire another waitress. If providing hookahs a tough deal for a busy night, don't serve it for that night. IMPROVISE. They're just a joke trying to make an easy buck here and there by placing automatic TIP after providing a horrid space with awful music in a trendy area. This automatic TIP system just doesn't fly well with me, especially when I'm not getting the BASIC service every patron deserves. There are much better places than this spot - don't waste your time and money.Moomia used to be the late-night, after-party location. Now they're trying to do the after work crowd thing. It's worth it for the sushi (available til 4am) and the beats. Different dj's line up the week. Upstairs you have friendly bartenders making expensive yummy drinks. Hookas are avail. for $20. Couch areas line up the main floor. Downstairs is darker and more underground of a feel. The entire place is decorated with an Egyptian theme. It's a good time with a bunch of friends or for a date because you can get a little cozy in a dark corner somewhere. The clientele is extremely varied and you are sure to get some form of entertainment from the lively DJs or a random dancing bizarrely in the crowd.Came here Thursday night for the bar. The place was pretty empty. Got there after 10pm. Hung out downstairs in the little comfortable lounge area, but we were literally the only people downstairs. Was going to get a vibe from the crowd... but the place mostly empty, we decided to order some drinks from the hostess and see how things went. House vodka tonic $10+$2tip+tax. Jack and coke was the same price. 3 drinks for $40 was just a little too much... especially since the drinks were small and there were no people around. We left soon after. The Egyptian decor upstairs seems fun, but I can't handle paying that much for a regular simple drink.I like this place, been here at least half a dozen times. Predominantly Russian crowd. Hip hop down stairs, house music upstairs. Can't complain about the decor or the drinks...even the sushi and hookah is good. BUT I will complain about a few things....when i went the other night there was no air-conditioning down stairs and its was sweltering hot! My bigger issue was when the waitress gave my credit card away to another table she was serving and so I ended up having to cancel my credit card - VERY inconvenient! Since my tab was larger she wanted me to pay the difference - HOW RUDE....and all she was able to say after she realized her mistake is "you should cancel your card" no I'm sorry, no free drink on the house. If I even come again, I am not giving anybody any credit cards - strictly upstairs, strictly cash! Please hire more competent people or you will start to loose business.
