there's a thing at the top of the description page that says NO ALCOHOL!--not so!-change it!-full bar -great drinks--jack black and coke comes with a 12 ounce can and ice in a bucket--super rib eye steak if you're lambed out-great salads--enjoy!

whenever i hear that someone is willing to travel an hour or more to go eat somewhere, now that catches my attention.  i know this place is worth checking out.  i know that person takes food seriously.  i know because i definitely would do the same.  so when my turkish friend told me that he drives all the way from the north shore of long island to eat a gyro in the other end of brooklyn, that caught my attention.  i said i can't believe you drive so far just to eat a gyro.  he says its not just a gyro, its the best gyro in new york.  i'm born and raised turkish and i am very picky about turkish food.so i was in brooklyn and not far from this place, decided to try lunch.  shared some kababs and gyros.  wow that was the best gyro i've ever had.  the chef told me they season the meat for hours then pack 150 pounds of meat onto that huge skewer and let the meat cook very slowly.  what ever they do, the meat is just right.  it was seasoned perfectly, it was tender, moist, and was completely grease free!  where else in new york can you find a gyro that isn't dripping with grease?  the seasoning for the kababs were amazing, making the meat so flavorful but i thought the meat itself was slightly on the dry side.i can't wait to bring my other buddy here next time to try the fish kebabs and grilled vegetables, which looked absolutely amazing hot off the charcoal grill.

My husband (american) and i (turkish) walked in and right away i heard some waiters talk negative about us as a couple of course in turkish not expecting me to understand!i ordered babaghonush and it was sour as it was bad. the sigara borek was very good and the fish and meat dishes were okay. but the salad wasnt fresh and left in the dressing for who knows how long. at the end i got a old turkish tea served with sugar packs and a straw ?! and when i wanted to order a platter to go with the salad on the side the guy behind the register acted like he didnt understand what that means! untill i spoke turkish which made everything much easier! over all poor service and nothing outstanding by the way they do bigger occasions like weddings and stuff

I've been going to Sahara since I was a young girl, and it has yet to let me down...I went for some take-out this past chilly weekend after not having been in years, and the place, the service, the food, still the same and still wonderlicious!!  I can't say much for dining in as I haven't done so in a while...and I do have to say my hummus was a little too creamy, being half Egyptian, we do like our hummus a little less on the creamy side...but I know that usually the Turkish make it the opposite way...heres my synopsis...Tabouleh = fantastic, slightly magical maybeAdana = aDonna favorite :)~Baklava = tickled its way straight from my lips to my hips, smiling end to end as usualyummy yummy def check it out if you haven't yet done so :)

Alright I can't comment on the service, since one of my co-workers was nice enough to take everyone's order and bring it back for lunch one day.  I had the chicken gyro which I thought was pretty good.  The chicken was cooked just right and the sauce was pretty good.  All my co-workers liked their lunch and smelled good.  One of these days I'll go there for a sit down dinner and update my review.

Stop #4 on Famous Fat Dave's food tour: Sahara. Most people going to Sahara are there for its famous shawarma. Dave wanted to take us here for another reason, which was oddly enough NOT meat related. And that reason was their salad. Dave calls their Shepherd Salad the best salad ever. He may just be right.I don't really remember the specifics of the salad that well other than there's a heap of lightly dressed diced tomatoes and cucumbers. What I DO remember is the Turkish feta that's shaved over the top. Compared to the Greek crumbly kind, the creamy Turkish feta makes all the difference because there's better cheese distribution - EVERY bite is a feta bite. PLUS, with each bite of salad the creamy feta sort of melts in your mouth. It comes with a piece of house Turkish bread. Dave also scored for us a few shavings of beef gyro to sample which were good. But it was all about the salad. And who can resist their slogan, lit up over the front door, "Let's MEAT at Sahara."I love this place. Great Turkish food and totally Brooklyn. The food is healthy, very good, and thus perfect for maintaining the type of nice beefed up body that girls from Monmouth State drop their drawers for all summer long on the jersey shore. Additionally, the atmosphere at this place is great . . . if you want to feel like your in a scene from the Sopranos (Russian style) . . .this is your spot. In fact, there are so many Russians at this place that I have a sneaking suspicion that if you order in Russian you actually get a 25% discount. The rest of the clientele is a combination of something you might find in a movie such as Out For Justice. This is my type of place.ordered the adana kabob and it was pretty good. comes with rice, lettuce and this really long pepper that becomes really spicy as you eat it. the lamb was flavorful, but i still had to cover it with the yogurt sauce. i'm wondering if this dish would've tasted even better with the fried pita bread and hot yogurt. i also tried some lamb saute and it wasn't that great. the tomato sauce overpowered the lamb. anyway, the highlight of this place was their bread. man was their bread delicious. it was hot and crusty on the outside and really warm and soft on the inside. only if they served it with sticks of butter, i would've been a really happy camper.FOOD-tastes good. ONLY 1 time we had diarhea. Usually order out...the cashiers sucks. Sitdown service was okay..fast. Price is moderate to average. Parking theres 2 lots and street. I would only recommend if you can put up with their BSLOVE IT.. the fresh bread for the hummus the most delicious salad.. good service..

I love Sahara's!! It's convenient, quick, always goood and above all open late. My fave is their lamb... adana, beyti, chops, etc. Mmmm = P ... For a complete meaI I always start out with the shepherd salad and hummus for apps, LAMB platter for my main, then finish it off with turkish tea and brown top pudding for dessert. All of that will leave you in heavenly FULL blisss. The main dishes also come in small portions (one skewer instead of two) for you lite ladies. FYI: There'a a hookah bar across the street (if your feeling like a fat ass and need some assistance in exhaling, with flavor).

I love this place. When it comes to pricing per person-hey, you can eat for $15-$20-$30 per person or even more! Do not use this criteria alone. I suggest to split a few different dishes between several people plus a salad(it is huge),add drinks and next time you'll know what to order. Absolutely recommend to try their outdoor dining and a milk pudding for desert.. Unfortunately, parking is a problem most of the time. With the capacity like this-it is time for their own parking lot.If you come at the end of the day-eggplant spread tends to run on the sour side!

I've been going to Sahara's for a few years and it is consistently excellent! Wonderful Turkish cuisine. The bread comes fresh and hot to the table...make sure to order some Lebne to dip your bread in (a yogurt dip with walnuts). The Iskender kebab is always good...meat on fried pita with yogurt and a yummy tomato sauce...trust me it's delish. Adana Kebab is fantastic too and also the mixed grill...actually I don't think I've ever ordered anything that wasn't fabulous if not very very good. And for a sweet bite at the end, definitely save room for some Baklava!
