Hookahloopa Lounge Reviews
by Ed S.
This is not the hookah lounge you visited in Egypt or even Astoria. No old men sitting around talking and smoking. This is a lounge-y type place with a very cool, relaxed atmosphere, very chill, and with a good selection of blends to choose from that taste and smell good. Great place to gather with your friends, or even bring a date. Just writing about it makes me wanna go there and smoke.

So after reading about this place in a local magazine, I decided I had to try it. Upon entering we were greeted by a very pleasant woman who immediately engaged us in conversation. She explained to us the very different concept that she and her husband had come up with for this hookah lounge. They have their own type of shisha that they have specially made and they also make their own flavors. Their flavors have creative names like "Touch me there" or "Triple X". She explained to us that the shisha was a bit more expensive, but of superb quality. And she was right. We got two hookahs and the flavor was very different and smooth. My throat didn't feel all scratchy after smoking it, nor did my throat feel like crap the following morning. It is a bit more expensive and their rules only allow for a maximum of 3 people to a hookah, but it is worth it!The ambiance is also very nice. The lounge is very nicely decorated with these very pretty lit stars that hang from the ceiling and perfect lighting. Whether you're going there for a date or to hang out with friends, I would definitely recommend this place. Also as an added bonus, they sell neat jewelry, hookahs, and shisha in the front. The jewelry is especially fun to look at :)

What a find!Gigi is awesome and Lloyd is on point. They are the owners of this wonderful surprise. It was midnight and my gf and I were trying to figure out where we could go hang out. We drove by and she caught the bright neon lights as we drove by. I had to stop and find out if she was just seeing things. We walk in and were greeted immediately by Gigi. She pleasantly engages us to try out their custom-made shisha varieties by letting us take a whiff of the pleasant aromas. Their rules are three people maximum to a hookah, which is perfectly fine because there were just two of us. There will definitely be more the next time I go. Among some of the memorable varieties we got to smell, we decided to try "All Night Long." Mellow and slightly citrus, the smoke was smooth and flavorful. Of honorable mention are the Obama's Stash, G-spot, XXX, and Sex on the Beach. Gigi then showed us their tea menu. I ordered the Rose Chai and the Masala Chai. Gigi says she bought up as many tea varieties as she could and tried them all before deciding which to stock up on. I believe her.We were then led inside where the atmosphere was absolutely perfect for lounging, conversing, and just enjoying company. Everything was brought out within a quick minute and we were sipping on the most perfect teas. There are benches wrapped all around the lounge area, all very comfortable, and we were welcomed to put our feet up.$20 per hookah, but so worth it for the quality of shisha. Teas will run you about $3, also splendid. They're open from 7:30pm - 2am on weekends, close at 1am on work nights.

A friend of mine recently broke up with his girlfriend, so I was looking for a hookah bar.I heard this place opened about two months ago and close to my friends' homes, so we decided to hang out here. From outside, the bar looked very small, but inside was larger than I thought.Cozy and nice. This was my first time to smoke hookah, and I enjoyed. and so do my friends!!Nice and funny owners! Be friends with them! :D20 bucks for 3 people, you can bring your own beer, but pay some bucks for that.

This is what happens when you move out of NY after living there for most of your life: you come back and a hookah place is now in the neighborhood you grew up in. Weird, but oh so pleasant. Llyod (the guy who is usually in the front of the store) is Filipino (I'm Filipino) and can guide you on all hookah charcoal (smell them, look at them, they are his own blends). Once you pick something, you walk through a veiled doorway to a larger room with couch-pods (where you can sit, lay down, sleep, lounge, read, etc. while smoking hookah). Also, this place is BYOB and bring your own food. They do have a selection of teas (to get hot or cold)---I got the white peach one...deeelish!So glad I found this place, and the fact that it's two blocks away from the movie theater my friend and I used to go to to cut school back in our junior high school days, cracks me up!

This is a great place to come smoke hookah. it's good for groups wanting to just chat up for fun times, or for a couple looking for an intimate setting. The owner is very passionate about his hookah flavors, he takes pride in mixing them all by hand at home with french tobacco leaves, molasses, and other flavor enhancing ingredients. The flavors are really unique and amazing and have funny names like xxx. The place is divided into small intimate cubicles. On the menu there is also a huge variety of tea's which are surprisingly very good. Excellent staff and good hookah and drinks makes this a great place to bring someone special to, or just to kick back and relax with some friends. I think they are closed Tuesday nights.

Aside from the multi-syllable name that somehow reminds me of Oompa Loompas, Hookahloopa is a total hidden gem. Not anymore. Thank you, Yelp. Hate you. Love you. Uh, anyway...Love this place. I had the misfortune of having my first hookah experience elsewhere, and there is no comparison. When we first walked in, we were greeted by Gigi, who is completely awesome and funny as hell. There are a ton of different shisha flavors - Most with provocative, yet funny names (Triple X or Sex in the Woods, anyone?). She actually sized up everyone in our group and attempted to recommend a particular flavor that suited each of our personalities (Hey, Joe, you look like you can use some "All Night Long"). She even based her recommendations as to which shisha flavors complemented each other best - You don't see that level of service every day. After spending way too long arguing and deliberating over what flavors to get (who chooses Asian Pear over Triple X, honestly? Grrrr.), Gigi took us to the main room and showed us our booth. I LOVE the vibe here. Chilled, dreamy, peaceful and trippy come to mind. Very trippy. Dark, purplish lighting, middle eastern-ish decor on the walls, glowing dreamy stars on the walls and ceilings...It's not as cheesy as it sounds, believe me - Somehow it just works. Most of the booths are these huge rounded bench-style things with pillows - Super comfy and relaxing. Wasn't uncommon to see people curled up fast asleep in their booths after a long hookah session. The hookah is strong (varies depending on the particular flavor) and flavorful. I don't remember the exact types we ordered (one involved something naughty in the woods, I think), but they were superbly flavored - They tasted fresh, not artificial. They don't serve alcohol as of yet - They should be getting their liquor license within the next few months, but they do have a BYOB policy in the meantime. Thoughtful. They serve some soft drinks and teas - I didn't try any, but my friend's eyes rolled back in his head (in a good way) when he sampled his tea.Gigi came by every now again to check on us and just shoot the breeze. We were there on a Thursday night - People were milling about, but weekends are supposed to get really crazy. All in all, love this place. Relatively unknown, supercool relaxing vibe, awesome service - Great place to come smoke some hookah and chill deep into the night.Totally rad, dude.

My close friend and I went to this place last night to talk in a relaxed atmosphere. After reading the reviews, we were totally hooked on going and couldn't wait to try it out. It was also our first time at a hookah lounge. When we got there, we were greeted by Gigi. She showed us almost every flavor that they have - we ended up with the Chocolate Covered Strawberry one. We were taken to a gorgeous lounge area with tons of pillows and cushioned seats. Our hookah was set up for us in no time and within a few minutes Gigi came by offering us free cookies and books (astrology, palm reading, love). Halfway through our session, her husband Lloyd came to change our charcoal. Our hookah lasted for well over an hour. The ambiance of the place is great! Gigi and Lloyd were very friendly. We had the most delicious teas: Masala White Peach. They are getting their liquor license soon, but for now there's a $5 charge per person to BYOB and your own food if you want. Like another reviewer said, this place really is a hidden gem. They only opened 10 months ago, but you can already tell this place is here to stay.
