not expecting it, but this was fantastic. a few friends and i were wandering around south street saturday in search of something ethnic, cheap and with outdoor seating. we walked by this place and though the people outside were a little aggressive for my taste, we did take a look at the menu and were instantly won over by the lunch special. this has to be one of the best deals in the city. $7.95 entree and appetizer special and it goes until 4pm!! so make it an early dinner! the staff was really accomodating and moved tables around for us so we could sit together. it's nice because it's close to south st., but tucked back enough that there's not a lot of traffic. i ordered the lamb meatballs and it came with 2 kinds of pilaf and some greens. my friend had the salmon kebab, which was also good, but i think mine was the best. we all ordered different "appies" and shared which i would totally do again. the hummus, babaganoush and something that started with an "hy" were delightful. i will definitely be back next time i've got a pita hankering around 3pm.

I went on a Saturday night with my wife and ate outside.  It was our first time and we ordered in accordance with the reviews that I read from other posters.  The zuchinni pancakes, stuffed eggplant and the assorted grilled kebabs.  The food could not have been better.  Service was good.  Street life was interestong and Sal, the owner, was a wonderful host.  The BYOB policy just made it that much better.  Next time I'm in the neighborhood I'll be there.

The food was pretty good. We went at 10pm and they had a good amount of people. I ordered the Moussaka which was excellent but the rice was overcooked and hard. My husband ordered a lamb kebab which was good but the same thing with the rice. It was under $30.00 for both of us. The staff seemed confused and they were way overstaffed. Two different people came over to ask if we had ordered and when we asked for the check they had no idea who our actual waiter was. I will probably chalk it up to still being a new restaurant and I'll go back. I think most of the chaos was inside but the people seated on the sidewalk seemed to be having a lovely time.

What a great experience!  SH far exceeded our expectations.  The food was wonderful and the staff was friendly and helpful.  We ordered two appetizers-  the soslu patlican (eggplant sauce) and the Turkish acili ezme (spicy vegetarian salad), two entrees - the sebzell guvec (vegetable casserole) and the doner kebap (lamb kebab), two desserts  - baklava and another house specialty they make to order, and two turkish coffees.  All of the dishes were excellent and well priced ($55 for everything).  The restaurant is very vegetarian friendly but has plenty of options for those looking for meat.  We are anxious to return in warmer weather to sit at the tables out front.  (Oh, and it's BYOB...another plus.)

Best Turkish food ever.  My boyfriend and I split the appetizer platter (out of like 8 items only one real dud) and the kebab platter (so much meat!).  Both were REALLY amazing.  I think this is my new favorite restaurant (sorry Plaza).  That was more than enough food.  I'm not saying that we had leftovers, we didn't.  But we SHOULD have had some, but everything tasted so good we didn't want to stop eating.  And there was so much more on the menu that I wanted to try, like the Manti.  One of the best meals I had while I was in Turkey was manti and I can't wait to find out how these measure up!

I had a very good experience at S H. The food was excellent. I ordered salmon kebabs and my partner ordered shrimp kebabs. The kebabs were char-grilled and the seasoning just right. The staff is friendly and courteous. I am planning my next trip already, I want to try a vegetarian entree next time. The owner was friendly and involved in our dining experience, he made us feel welcome. For desert we ordered baklava which was delicious.

I've had take-out from SH two times, and the food was incredible on both occasions. The first time, I went on a cold day and had a hankering for moussaka, one of my favorite comfort foods. I was not disappointed -- it was rich and flavorful and made with lamb, my favorite meat. I've also had the fried zucchini pancake with yogurt and garlic sauce and and borek appetizers, both excellent. The rice pudding was the best I've ever had, and the light milk pudding had a lovely, silky, melt-in-your-mouth texture. The first time I went, the friendly owner, Sal, was there, and I chatted with him for some time as I waited for my food. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food. I'll definitely be going back again and again -- SH Kebab House is now one of my favorite places to eat in the neighborhood.

Just what I thought was thought was not needed in the South St. area is  yet another Middle Eastern restaurant. But the SH Kebab House proved me worng! It specialises in mostly Turkish cuisine, which does set it apart from the others. Plus their lunch special can't be beat for the price....a very large kebab platter and full appetizer for $8. I ordered the baba appetizer and shrimp kebab which was great. And they have sour cherry nectar, my favorite turkish treat.

went last night for the 1st time. i know nothing about the food or the culture. but i'm learning thanks to a cute turkish man. so he brought me here. its byob. and he had a bottle of a turkish booze called raki.  had lots of food. huge plate of  samplings of traditional fare. such as hummus, stuffed grape leaves, some kind of crazy eggplant and so on. all vegetarian. all super yum. next the meat. it was an assortment of all good things. we ate lamb, chicken and beef.  it was on top of different rices and other stuff. it was friggin fantastic. ended with dessert. have no idea what it was called. it tasted somewhat like rice pudding. i am a fan. shout out to justin the irish waiter and only non turk in the place. he was great. we waited for nothing without him being overbearing. and the owner was a sweetheart to us. he's the kind of guy you want to succeed. he loves his place and the people who go there.the outside seating on a perfect night made the whole experience, amazing. i will def be back. and im dragging everyone with me. i will be spreading the word. side note. that raki stuff? we got tore up. but totally different kind of buzz. had very little sleep and made it to work on time, no hangover. just sayin'.

THANK YOU FOOBOOZ!  Discovered this new place there and the mention of the kebab sampler for 21.95 got me jonesing for some tender, grilled meats! The staff: super friendly and attentive.  Lots of personal care and informative as they are swift with service. The food: For three of us, we decided the foobooz lauded Karisik Izgara (combination Grilled Kebabs) for 21.95.   Absolutely every bit of this dish was easy for us to devour!  Tender, tasty and a good variety.  We decided to order a shared salad: small, Coban Salata (Sheperd Salad) of cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, onion and herbs... all fresh and all healthy enough to knock the edge off of any risk of guilt that one may have from gorging themselves on a super platter of kebabs. When we couldnt choose a dessert to settle on sharing, the waiter was smart to just promise a good sample of each.  The Baklava was incredible.  The Rice Pudding was baked and while I didn't exactly expect it to be cold (is it just Indian restaurants that heat it?)  It was so good and not exactly what I expected either.  It had a surprising taste in a very good way.  Third, we had some pudding with a caramel base that was light and flan-like rolled up goodness.  It was sooooo good.  The charming owner promised us that next time we go, we can try his newest addition to the dessert menu which he had only just completed in the kitchen.   He assured us it would be on the menu soon!    The price was good, the atmosphere nicer than expected and the welcoming staff made it all the more a great meal for us.  Cant wait to go back.

I have been to SH Kabob House several times for lunch and dinner, and it is wonderful!  The food is excellent (I am partial to the Lamb Iskander) and the wait staff and owner are so nice.  The lunch is a great value, and they definitely have the best kebabs in the city, hands down. They have belly dancers on Fridays and Saturdays and it is so cool!  I have brought friends twice for their birthdays, and we had a great time getting up to dance with the belly dancer while everyone is clapping and having a great time - it was so fun and something unique.  Their costumes are so beautiful and I love the music - I am even thinking of taking a belly dance class, I love it so much!  My only negative?  The decor inside is cheesy, with the painted curtains.  But I am willing to overlook that in favor of awesome food, great wait staff and awesome entertainment!

i went to kebab house for a birthday party and was sort of bummed out by the vegetarian selection.  i ended up getting hummus and splitting a falafel appetizer with a friend, and both were passable.  the restaurant was super crowded though and they kept jamming in more tables, making the room very hot, loud, and claustrophobic.  add in the creepy bellydancer and you have a pretty unpleasant dining experience. my friends who eat meat all absolutely loved their dishes though so i assume the food is good !

No need to leave a detailed review, as plenty of the previous reviews have already covered how amazing this place is, but I just wanted to say that this is a very yummy and reasonably priced BYOB that is a great addition to the neighborhood with plenty of outdoor seating! I also second the zucchini pancakes and sampler!

The short version- I ate the entire kebab sampler platter myself because it was so good. It's enough meat for 3 or 4 people. Longer version- I live a few blocks away and was very excited about my neighborhood getting a Turkish restaurant. SH has not let me down. The kebabs (or kebaps if you rather) are all flavorful and moist and the lamb chops are among my favorite in the city. The Turkish Cheese Rolls are another winner if you like cheese, dough, and fried foods, which everyone should. Even the rice got cleaned off my massive plate o' meats. Flavor everywhere. Our waiter was completely unfamiliar with the menu and was obviously very new, but was nice enough and tried his best. Everyone was friendly and very concerned about our enjoyment of the meal; a little off-putting to some, but understandable that they want the feedback. Major bonus points for the fact that they make take-out a snap.

Went with the family on a Saturday night. Had a great time. Terrific, extraordinarily friendly service. Just the right distance off of South Street to watch the crowd without being in it. The food, though, was extremely uneven. There's lots of it, but... The hummus was just OK, the chicken kebab was dry and dull. The lamb kebab was terrific, as was the shepherd's salad. We'd go again because the overall experience and location are good. But i wish the food was more consistent.

I'm super surprised by the other reviews posted here.. I was expecting the most amazing meal and yelp usually never leads me astray. Clearly I ordered the wrong thing. To start with the outdoor tables offered a lovely view of Condom Kingdom (gotta love South Street). Its a little seedy out there so we opted for an indoor table.  Inside the interior was a little strange, but the service was fantastic so whatever. I ordered the lamb with okra-huge mistake! The lamb in the dish was nonexistent, the okra overcooked and the sauce it came in a huge tomatoe mess! I picked the few pieces of lamb out of the dish and then pushed around soggy pieces of okra, while drooling at everyone else's kebabs. The kebabs were decent but not super super good.   The most disconcerting part of the meal was the "entertainment". Belly dancing- of course!!! So the music was ear defeaning- I ain't that old but its rough when you're yelling at the person sitting right next to you. We sort of ignored the half naked lady cavorting around the room, but at one point we looked up and noted that she was balancing a large sword on her head- now that's talent :) Guess I was in the mood for a good meal and good conversation, which was next to impossible at S and H.

This place is a godsend.  After working in this area for over ten years, I was thrilled to see a place this good open up.  The Turlu is amazing and always made fresh.  Their lunch wrap specials are a great value for the amount of food you get (7.95 for a good sized sandwich and soup).   The Lamb and Okra stew has been the best thing I've tried from them so far.  Fresh okra that still snaps in your mouth, tender, well seasoned lamb chunks, and a slightly spicy tangy tomato sauce that makes your mouth water.

Outside seating + BYOB + yummy turkish food = amazing.  Every single time I come here, I leave so happy and so full and so content that I wonder why I dont come here more often.  I always get the Doner Kebab which is this wonderfully seasoned lamb meat with rice and veggies and peppers.  Sounds simple, but each and every item on that plate is done so perfectly and so yummy that when it all comes together its miraculous.  And I always have leftovers which means the next day's breakfast or lunch or dinner or all 3 are super great.  Sometimes just hours after Ive come home, I sneak downstairs and eat the leftovers cold :)In addition to the Doner Kebab, I have tried the hummus (yum) and the fried zucchini which is this lightly fried thin patty of grated or julienned (not sure) zucchini with a really nice almost crunchy outside  (super super yum).  I also tried the liver which is not something I ever would try - Ive only had liver once before and it has sort of a crumbly, dry, gritty texture with NO flavor.  But the liver here is ever so lightly breaded and gently spiced and when you bite into it, its a really smooth, creamy bursting of flavor.  TRY THE LIVER!!!I also cant NOT mention the desserts - Ive tried the baklava and this cream cinnamon thing which were not overly sweet, but very delicate and a perfect ending. They also recently started offering hookah.  I had the most amazing night sitting outside smoking the hookah.  Much friendlier and more relaxed and less drama atmosphere than Shouk nearby.  Where else can you sit outside, people watch on South Street, eat tasty well-executed not overpriced food, drink whatever you brought AND smoke hookah???

yummy turkish food and i didn't have to drive out to grad ho to get it! (though Divan, i still love you)we tried the chicken meat patties, moussaka and the baba ganoush.  the moussaka was sooooo tasty! chicken meat patties were also good, but they were a bit dry; a side of yogurt would have been the perfect accompaniment. the baba ganoush was just ok. portions are large (i had about half of my dish left over) so unfortunately, i didn't have room for dessert. love that it's byob!  :)

As many other people have written here, the food is absolutely amazing. The service was very knowledgeable and attentive. However, I take issue how the owner runs his business because the owner was overbearing and overly friendly, we were trying to enjoy our meal and the owner would not stop talking to us and let us enjoy our meal. We saw him sitting and drinking with other tables all which is not professional in my opinion. I may go back there just for the take outs because food is so good.

From start to finish this place failed me. We were seated in an empty room to the left of the entrance. The room to right had people in it, and there were a few empty tables in there but we were seated alone to the left to gaze into a filthy fish tank and lovely mural of fake curtains. Being the only table in the room our server found it very easy to forget about us. First of all, the menu is typical of a crappy little byob. It reads like the creator had a word count he had to reach or something. It lists the same things over and over again only with differing meats or sides. Their four page menu could easily be stream-lined into one to two pages and still feature the same things.  After deciding on the Turkish version of tzatziki and falafel to start with and a chicken kebab to share between two, we were only then given water and pita bread with butter wtf?Our appetizers were presented as follows: a soup bowl full of the Turkish tzatziki served alone, no pita or veggies or garnish and four small falafel balls on a bed shredded iceberg with a quartered pale tomato. The Turkish tzatziki was ok but the falafel tasted like it was fried in oil they might have been recycling from their "grand opening".The chicken kebab was quite flavorless and the rice was dry and overcooked. I was only then glad we had all that Turkish tzatziki to moisten the rice and flavor the chicken. Our server was rushed, rude, and awkward. Never again SH kebab house.

Excellent food at very good prices makes S and H a great value eatery. Definitely going back!!!I went here for lunch on Saturday 12-June.  Had the humus and tabbouleh appetizers. I had the ground lamb and beef kebab and my girlfriend had the lamb. The meats were nicely charred, juicy and seasoned just right. These were some of the best kebabs I have ever had. Simply perfect! The only reason why it's not 5 stars is the interior is a bit too eclectic and doesn't have continuity. The female owner or manger (?) Would come over to the table often and make awkward moments. The salad that came with the kebabs needed dressing but it added nice color to the plate. Overall though, great experience. Can't wait to go back!

Mind blowing.  Simply mind blowing.  Sweetie pie mentioned this place to me the other night and we checked out the website.  At that time the menu portion wasn't yet completed, so tonight we headed over to check it out in person and we now have an official new fave place to eat in the neighborhood.SH Kebab House serves up everything from soups and salads and cold and hot appetizers to vegetarian dishes, seafood, satueed dishes and casseroles, and of course, kebabs.  We started out with the Mucver appetizer, which is a pan fried zucchini pancake with yougurt and garlic sauce served on the side.  There were a total of three pancakes, and each was fried to perfection, with not a hint of greasiness.  The yogurt was impeccable as well and was also a nice complement to the free flat bread served with every meal.We decided to share the Karisik Izgara, or the combination grilled kebab, platter. This was loaded with doner kebab, lamb shish kebab, chicken shish kebab, adana kebab, meatball kebab, and chicken adana kebab with rice and pilaf on the side.  Where to begin?  Each kebab was cooked almost beyond perfection, with a melt in your mouth quality.  The lamb kebabs were especially delicious, with the doner being simply amazing.  Whatever these guys used as a rub for that particular kebab really turned it into something special.  I also really enjoyed the sweetness and texture of the meatball kebab, thinking that it and the doner could be dangerously addictive. Ditto that for the delicious pilaf, which had a nice spiciness to it.After dinner, we split a kazandibi (a baked and caramelized light milk pudding) for dessert, and I also tried the Turkish coffee.  Again, both were simply exquisite, with the strong coffee being the perfect balance to the sweet kazandibi. If you've never had Turkish coffee like I hadn't before this trip, be prepared for a nice, solid caffienated buzz that puts any other espresso to shame. The prices were excellent, with most kebab dishes being $11.95 with more than generous portions.  The combo platter we got was $21.95 and well worth every cent.  The staff was extremely friendly and the low key decor is pretty.  It doesn't smash you over the head, but then it doesn't need to when the food is this delicious. We'll certainly be going back again soon, which the owner Sal seemed thrilled about.  Rock on, Sal.  You have yourself a winner.

Ok folks - this place was hard for me to score... so stay with me.We stumbled on SH after being turned away without a reservation at another BYOB.  The grand opening sign caught my eye - and ever since visiting Yemen I'm always down for a good kebab. My first impression was great.  The service seemed wonderful and eager.  I wondered while I was there whether it was because of the grand opening going on.  I learned afterward that they have been around for months.  I consider the sign false - if effective (got me in the door) advertising. My second impression came while ordering.  Now - I should point out that I know the difference between kebabs... this place had shish (chunks of meat on a skewer), doner (meats prepared the way you'd get in a shawarma), kofte (meatsballs on a skewer) and Adana (kind of a long thin meat loaf... best with something like yogert to dip it in).  But even knowing what I was doing - it took me probably 20 minutes to get through the menu.  The descriptions are too long and still really don't describe what you're getting.  Now a lot of people talk about how cheap the place is.  I think of a kebab as fast cheap food - like tacos.  A plate comes with two skewers for around 12 bucks (18 for the shrimp).  Appetizers are around 5.  My coke (I wasn't feeling well enough for alcohol) came out in a warm can for 2 bucks a pop.  Maybe I haven't eaten at enough kebab places in the states - but 22 bucks seems like a lot of commitment for the theme.  In their defense - the portions were ENORMOUS.  But I don't eat out to bring home food.  I would have appreciated smaller portions with lower prices.Long story short - I'm not suggesting it's unreasonable.  Just know that if you're going it's not as cheap as a lot of Yelpers seem to suggest. My third impression came halfway through a quiet conversation when the music got to Electric Factory Concert levels and a girl came out to belly dance.  This was unnecessary, in my opinion.  I don't know if she just wasn't into it that night or if she is just new to the art... and I don't mean to be critical... but I have seen better belly dancers at Renaissance Fairs in the mid-west.  I'm not expecting top notch entertainment out of this - but at least have enough room for the dancer if you're going to have one.  There isn't a stage area or anything.  Honestly - even though I love watching belly dancing - I was left a little annoyed. My fourth impression was the food.  The cook in this place is Oh-My-God good.   I am pretty picky about my Adana kebabs... and this one was fabulous.  Ask for extra pilaf - amazing stuff.  If you go for the adana or meatball kebab I highly recommend getting the cucumber and yogert sauce with pita.  The sauce goes great as a dipping sauce for the kebab... and plenty enough to double as your appetizer.  My girlfriend went with the shrimp kebab and the shepherd salad - both great. So here I am - left wondering how to score this.  What do you do if you hate a restaurant but love the food?  I'm going back - I wanna try the moussaka - but I'm not sure I'm ready to recommend it to a friend. So here is the deal - both "I'm a fan" (four stars) and "Meh, I've experienced better"  (two stars) are true.  So I'm going three stars.  I'll update again if my next experience there is any better (or worse...)

I am so thrilled that I chose to hold my birthday dinner at SH. Tonight we opted to sit outdoors because it was the perfect mixture of warmth and chill. Unfortunately we didn't give much thought to having South Street as a backdrop, and all the little hoochie mamas and their axe spraying boy toys walked by the many outside diners crassly. One person was so drunk his ladies had to stop him from falling into one of the diners' tables. When we arrived we were greeted immediately by a very presumptuous woman who later on went up to cars that were staring at us all on the sidewalk, and asked if they were looking for a table! I thought that was a little intrusive on passers by, but in a way I kind of appreciated her determination to fill each table. Our waiter was extremely friendly and didn't mind our many questions about pronunciation and what part of the world he was from. He very cutely stated he wasn't from Turkey but from Egypt, didn't speak Turkish, and the chefs were giving him a hard time for not speaking it to them. Which made us feel even more comfortable about having very little knowledge of the cuisine. While waiting for our food the hostess asked if we wanted to go inside to see the belly dancer and not to my surprise, there were almost nothing but male patrons in the packed dinning area. All in all it seemed like a nice time indoors, but we still preferred the outdoors. We ordered stuffed grape leaves, Donner (lamb) Kebab, Moussaka, and for dessert, the baked rice pudding. The grape leaves were a little too sweet for my taste but still very appetizing. The Donner kebab was superb. The meat was tender, flavorful, and aromatic, the pilaf had just the right mixture of flavor and blandness, which made the lamb the star of the entree and didn't over power your taste buds. The Moussaka was one of the best made recipes that I had ever had. The cheese wasn't burnt, but still elastic ( which indicates that the meal wasn't overcooked ),the eggplant wasn't mushy but still firm, the lamb wasn't dry or crumbly, but had an almost meatball moistness to it. The sauce tied all of the flavors together but still allowed the opportunity for individuality in texture and flavors. The dessert was just as pleasing as the dinner. The top of the baked pudding had almost a flan type of texture while the "inside" of the bowl was creamy and smooth. So damn good! One serving of this was enough for two people to split. This experience made me realize that I haven't had good service nor good food, in quite some time. Everyone from the hostess, manager, wait staff, and our waiter made us feel welcomed and important. Each one took turns in making sure that we were completely satisfied and happy. This is one establishment that will continue to have my business on a regular basis. I think I've fallen in love!

It's no secret that the SH Kebab House, on P'Unk just off South St., has opened to rave reviews for the grilled skewers all around well-done Turkish food.It was a gorgeous summer day when we decided to have lunch at SH...the part of P'Unk isn't heavily traveled, so you can actually enjoy your meal w/o the car exhaust.Plus, for $8 you get plenty of satisfying food...both a platter and an accompanying salad or appetizer. We started with the Tabbouleh salad the Haydari, a dip made with yogurt, garlic, dill and walnut pieces. The Tabbouleh was well seasoned and full of veggies...diced red pepper, scallions, tomato parsley. The Haydari, slathered over warmed pita slices, was addictive...the yogurt+dill is a familiar flavor, but the walnut pieces gave the spread a pleasing bite. The main attraction for us was the news that the lamb kebabs were char-grilled...here's a close-up of the Sis Kebap, marinated lamb cubes. Each platter came with grilled pepppers tomato, two kinds of rice( a spiced short-grain rice and a buttery medium grain) and a slaw of cabbage carrot. The lamb Doner combines hearty char-grilled lamb flavor in delicately sliced portions. The balance of marinated meat flavors and accompanying veg made for a great summer lunch.Although the desserts looked just as summer-ready, we were stuffed. As we lunched, passers-by commented to one another about SH, either pointing out that they had eaten there or needed to drop in soon.

Decided I was in the mood for some kebab delights and hit up my magic 8 ball (aka Yelp). Based on the rave reviews, I decided to try it out for today's lunch. I live less than a mile away and I never even knew this place existed. When we arrived, my friend and I were greeted by the nicest hostess. She gave us the option of sitting indoors or out, and since the farmer's market was going on next to the outdoor tables, we opted for the outdoor seating. While we waited for our waiter (which took no time at all), the sweet scent of strawberries wafted in my direction. It piqued my appetite for sure. The real astonishment came when I looked at the menu and saw little starburts filled with the numbers "7.95." Wait, seriously? All this food for $7.95? Yes! It's part of their lunch special. I ordered the Chicken Adana Kebab with the hummus plate as my app, and my friend went with the Lamb Adana Kebab, babagannush as her app. When the apps arrived, she and I housed them in seconds flat. The kebabs were just as amazing. This is my new favorite lunch spot. Skip the South Street hype and head to this side street treasure. Oh and if you lunch there on a Tuesday, you'll get to check out the farmer's market too. Joy!

You know that feeling when you REALLY want to see a movie and then it doesn't live up to your expectations. Well, I felt that way of S H Kebab House.  Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but after looking forward to coming here for so long, I wasn't too impressed.  It was a little more expensive than you expect for dinner. The outdoor seating has potential, although I definitely suggest not going on a Saturday night or you get the thumping base off South Street and my chair was not thoughtfully placed right by someone's apartment entrance.  Might grab food from take out.

I'm giving SH kebab house 5 stars, not necessarily because of the food (though it was totally amazing) but for a much bigger reason. While eating I observed Sal (the owner) standing outside his restaurant saying hi to people and shaking the hands of the neighbors who passed. This man isn't just trying to build a business, he's cultivating a relationship with a neighborhood - and that's something truly beautiful. Our server (I think his name was Jason or Justin) couldn't have been nicer. At the SH kebab house you really feel like you are being welcomed into someone's home for dinner.  Have a dinner here, please. If you're going to spend your money in the city, don't give it to huge restaurant chains or other companies that won't appreciate it, give it to a place like this that really wants and needs your business! and Sal's tip of the week - you don't have to feed the meters on wednesday nights .. for whatever reason.

Right off South Street, away from the inner city boardwalk of a street, you can walk 10 paces and find yourself at S H Kebab house (BYOB, accepts credit cards!) for some seriously affordable middle eastern eats.  That's what happened to us after we found Fourth Street Souvlaki closed for vacation and Ansill inexplicably closed until the end of the summer. (uh?)Lunch is super duper affordable.  $7.95 gets you your choice of appetizer/salad/soup and your main dish.  You can't beat the value here - they're generous with the portions and you can eat to your heart's content without breaking the bank. They give you plenty of homemade pita to start - warm from the oven along with your first course.  (I recommend getting a mix of the spicy Turkish vegetable salad - which is more of a dip and the cool yogurt tzaziki-esque spread - it's delish!!) Your main course is enough for two meals and they don't scrimp on the meat (Get the Doner, ask no questions!)  The food isn't out of this world, (it's not in the ranks of, let's say, Zahav) but it's basic, good and cheap.  Where can you go wrong here? Oh, and keep in mind that they charge for each soda/iced tea refill so stick to water if you keep your final bill at reasonable price.

Went there for dinner on a Friday night, unfortunately I was informed that due to Ramadan there will be no belly dancers, disappointing but not the end of the world. We stated with an appetizer of the Babaganush  which was very good (being from Israel I had my fair share). For my entree I went with Doner kebab which is a sort of Shawarma ( a personal favorite) which was extremely good and wort every penny, my date had the chicken kebab which was nice and juicy. Good cheap food with nice size servings. great bang for the buck!

John had dined here once before - and raved about the food - so we decided to try it out on Friday night. We arrived early - round 6pm - and the space had a few deuces in the process of dining, but there was plenty of room. Hopefully (for them) the room picked up later in the evening!Sebastian was our server and was charming and quite attentive. John started with grape leaves stuffed rice, onions, pine nuts black currants and herbs - not overly oily and easily a few bites per leaf.I began my dinner with a white bean salad - the small (which I got) was a large serving - I'd only suggest ordering a large if you were going to share it with the table. It was a heaping amount of white beans with tomato, red peppers, green peppers, parsley, onions and chef's special dressing - really nicely done.I decided to go with a chef's recommendation of the traditional lamb shish kebab - tenderloin cubes of lamb marinated in seasonings, char-grilled on skewers, served with pilaf, garnished with grilled whole tomato and pepper. Although not hot, it was spicy and had just the right kick this ol' sensitive tummy can handle!John went with the shrimp shish kebab -  shrimp marinated in seasonings, char-grilled on skewers, served with rice and house salad. Simple but filling.Honestly - we had no room left for dessert - the food was that good (and that filling). Although it's quite casual - the dining room offers a chance to have a relaxed meal and all in all, a fine dining experience and one I would recommend to a friend; especially one searching for more than take-out level of kebabs!
