We had a friend's birthday shindig there earlier this week. It was my first time there, or at any Moroccan restaurant. Finding the place is pretty easy - it's tucked away in Charlestown but very simple to get to from our place in Brighton. Anyway, parking is impossible, so just suck it up and accept that you are going to have to spend $18+tip on the valet. The valet guy was really nice and courteous. It was a Monday night and the place wasn't too busy. We met our friends at the bar and had a quick drink before our whole party arrived. At that point, the manager or whomever seemed very egar to get us to our table. Very egar. No big deal but it was one thing I noticed. I usually like to chill for a moment before moving on and that did not seem to be an option, which was odd as the place was not busy at all.We got our table(s) in the back room and all eight of us lounged on the comfy couches and chairs in what had to be one of the most intimate and warm dining rooms I'd ever been in. We had a huge meal that lasted for hours and drank a few bottles of a Lebanese wine that I can't remember. It was great. The service was excellent and receptive and very helpful. I read a bunch of reviews here on Yelp before going in and was a bit scared, but it reminded me to always check out a place despite the Yelp comments. After dinner we took a trip to the hookah room and smoked for a while and drank champagne with strawberry juice. Decadent. It was an amazing evening and I would love to do it all over again (if I could ever afford it!)Warning: the men's room is all the way in the back of the hookah room, so if you are allergic to smoke, you'll have an issue with this. (I am not and did not, just a caution.)Oh yeah, the food was absolutely excellent. Nobody in our party had a single issue with one of the 8 million things it seemed like we were ordering and sharing. As it's been said before, this place is an absolute amazing date restaurant, just be careful taking someone there on a first date because you'll be expected to live up to THAT for the rest of the relationship, and I can't think of that many other more romantic, charming, and unique places in the city.

One of the best, unique restaurants in Boston. Great atmosphere and an exceptional menu. My husband and I are big fans of Tangierino and try to invite and introduce our friends to this restaurant - whenever you go there with someone who comes for the first time, you will be thanked forever.Try these and you will be satisfied and satiated:- Tuna tartar- Wasabi "Kissed" Tuna- Blazing Beef Tenderloin- Chicken B'Stila- Molten Chocolate Souffle

The newly incarnated Tangierino is a place where you feast your eyes but not your palate. The decor brings in the nomadic chic without overdoing the kitsch (well, perhaps, they should replace the cheap tulle covering the special tables). However, since the renovation, I would call the changes to the menu underwhelming. Years ago, the cold starter along with the bread consisted of a tangy eggplant concoction and tart olives. The blandness of the new starter is a harbinger for the meal to come: the hummus is barely tart and the olives seem to belong in your martini, not your bread plate. We had the two chicken dishes and though they used high quality meat, my dish with the coucous had chicken that lacked any added flavor. I would have even been grateful if it was salted. My husband's dish promised pomme frites which looked more like the fries we would get at Warren Tavern. Yesterday was my birthday so I am a bit disappointed I wasted my special meal on their mediocre flavors, but then again, the week is young and I have time to celebrate!

I thought a 9:30pm reservation on a Saturday night was late but when they proceeded to make us wait until 10pm to be sat, that was beyond me and my growling stomach. (p.s. it was not very crowded in the dining area but it seemed everyone (hostess/waitstaff) were all consumed with the new lounge they opened in the basement)... *I would like to state that the bartender who made me a yummy dirty "special" martini was very very nice and even left the bar to check on our reservation for us. our waiter was much to be desired, he probably filled his quota for nightly tips since it was so late.And...onto the food - the tuna tar-tare was delicious!!! But the entrees weren't anything special for the price. The inattentive waiter punched in the wrong filet mignon...my case-in-point - if I'm at a restaurant like Tangierino I want to try the "Old World Entrees" not the "New World" where it's basically steak and mashed potatoes. But at that point it was almost 11pm and I couldn't be bothered to correct him after I realized it was the wrong entree....my stomach was going to have difficulty digesting it either way.... So all-in-all, save your money.....by the time we finished dinner, I was far too tired/disappointed to even have some hookah :(

This gotta be the WORSE place you can think of as far as service is concern !!! The servers have no idea what's going on in the restaurant/bar.. and the managers can be found smoking outside.. to bad cause the food it's pretty good and some of the drinks but when the service is that bad is hard to enjoy it... NEVER AGAIN.

The food was very good. My youngest daughter enjoyed the asperagus side dish very much. We supposed to be sharing the girlled chicken

This place is seriously dope. A great spot for a get together with friends or a romantic dinner with you're significant other. The ambiance is rad - hookah bar downstairs (so you can smoke cigarettes / cigars inside if that's your thing). The tables and chairs have a great antique look. The drinks are yummy. The food is fabulous. Yeah it's a bit pricey, but definitely worth it and it's shouldn't break your bank (depending on how much booze you're looking to consume).

I'm rounding up with 4 stars; I'd give Tangierino 3.5 if I could. Went this past weekend for the first time since they renovated the place. Here's how I break it down:Ambience/decor: 4 stars. It's lovely, romantic (but not embarrassingly so) with many ornate Moroccan fixtures -- all very good. But as with pre-renovation Tangierino, the updated version has some odd ideas about seating. Some of the tables and chairs are of normal Western size, but others (which appear to be traditional Moroccan furniture) are considerably smaller and lower to the ground. To sit at one of them would be like sitting at a fifth-grader's desk -- most adults can do it, but wouldn't elect to sit there while trying to eat a nice meal. Fortunately we were seated at an adult-sized table for two.Food: 4 stars. I had the duck, which was quite good and was accompanied by whipped potatoes flavored with truffle oil -- nice! My companion got sea bass, which came with an intriguingly delicious turnip purée seasoned with vanilla and saffron. At odds with the rest of the (traditional, Moroccan) decor, the plates (long, rectangular, ultra modern) were a bit awkward . I can't quite tell you why that made the food seem ever-so-slightly weird ... but it did!Price: 3 stars. It's too expensive for what you're getting. If the owner wonders how prices could be a bit lower while still turning a profit, I'd suggest reducing the number of employees working in the dining area. We observed a very high waitstaff-to-patron ratio, which was not only unnecessary but at times counterproductive and confusing, as one hostess undid another's decision, and the staff danced to keep out of each other's way.Speaking of dancing, the belly dancer was just right. Talented but not too obtrusive. Downstairs is a whole new hookah lounge -- quite swank. This time we did end up at a table seemingly designed for 11-year-olds, but since we weren't trying to eat a meal, it was all right. The hookahs come equipped with clever little chimney covers that control the amount of air that gets to the shisha ("tobacco") pellets, allowing for a slow, even burn. My only complaint, as ever, is that they don't carry pear-flavored shisha. We had grape, which was quite nice. I'd still rather have pear ...

I don't know how I haven't reviewed this place yet, because I've been back a few times, but no time is better than now, right? I also want to review it pre-renovation and post-renovation.I first visited Tangierino about 2 years ago for dinner. I loved the vibe and sexy atmosphere. The service was probably 3ish stars. The food was good, although a bit bland. After dinner we went next door to the Kasbah Lounge for some sheesha. Always overpriced in the States, we paid at least 400% of the actual cost, but that's ok, we were there for the atmosphere. A bit gritty, and tiny and cramped, but dug the vibe bigtime. Enjoyed the hookah, and vowed to return, despite the truly atrocious belly dancer performance that we were punished with.Returned to just the hookah lounge a few times - same deal, same reviews. I really just don't understand why it's so damn pricey. I have a few hookahs of my own and smoke sheesha at home, so I know what the real cost is, which is why I don't head out for sheesha all that often, but there is something to be said about chillin' in a groovy lounge instead of my own couch...This was all pre-renovation. I'm excited to head back and see what's changed.

I can't say that i was exactly impressed. I hear so many great things about this place that when we decided to go grab dinner there an a laid back Friday night I was excited. The decor and the atmosphere is unique. With comfy couches separate rooms, low lighting and morocan style decorations on the walls gives this place a very cozy and chill atmosphere. This is the only reason they got 3 stars from me.The server was nice and polite, but sloooooooooooow. Well she was almost always polite except for when she brought us the wrong appetizer, but when we told her that a mistake had been made, she started protesting that that was not so. Until she went and got the menu and we pointed at the actual dish we ordered she would not conceit. Then she did apologize but took another 15 min or so to bring the right dish out. They did have a belly dancer, who belly danced passed us once. That was kinda cool too. But somehow i always imagined that they'd have belly dancers performing constantly or at least more then once. The food was good. Not "OMG you have to go there!". It wasn't bad, but for my personal taste it was very plane for the prices that they were charging per plate. Maybe they feel like you're paying for the atmosphere more then the food. Overall: The service is lacking. Besides being excruciatingly slow when my boyfriend asked them to bring him a knife because they forgot to give him one after the first course, they just plainly never did. Fortunately his entree was a fish and he managed to use the side of his fork. Food: ok, but didn't find it amaizing for the price of the dishes.Atmosphere: beautiful, relaxing, fun.

I didn't eat there but this place is wildly overpriced unless the food is prepared with the hand of god.

If I could give Tangierino a 4 1/2 I would! We loved it! I had been here in the past and agree that the old bar area with the pillows and couch feel will be missed. But, there are still plenty of intimate, beautiful areas and the sevice was GREAT. We had a few cocktails prior to dinner and I'm sure at many places a server may have had no tolerence for our jokes - but ours joined in! Anyways, the food was amazing as always!

I went here last night with my boyfriend to celebrate his b-school interviews finally being finished. I had been about two years ago and loved it so I thought it would be the perfect place for a special occasion. I was really disappointed.Their computer system was down so they had to hand write the credit slips and I guess that's why there was also no music. It really killed the atmosphere. We had a late reservation (which was totally fine with us), but ended up feeling awkward in an empty room by ourselves while they washed the tables next to us, ran the dishwasher at the bar, and used the (loud) blender to make drinks for people in the other rooms. It was just weird. It was Restaurant Week but they actually had a decent number of options. The food was fine but really unremarkable, same for the cocktails. BF had the chicken b'stila to start, which he said was good but oddly reminded him of french toast. I had the mozzarella and avocado which was very fresh and probably the best part of either of our meals. BF had salmon for dinner and liked it a lot, I had the 7 veg cous cous and felt like it was something I could have made at home (and I am no great chef). Dessert was good but nothing special. The service was also really unremarkable and our waitress wasn't even that friendly. Maybe my expectations were too high, but when I pay $100+ for dinner, I think they should be high. I'm sad to say Tangierino was a big let-down.

REALLY GOOD!!I'm semi-wasted faced, but I'm going to give this place 4 stars. The group ordered the seafood platter for an app and it featured some of the BEST oysters I've ever had in my life. Words cannot describe how tasteful they were. They were perfect. Clearly fresh off the boat/out of the sea. Truly a delight. For my main course I had the goat-cheese salad and tuna tartar appetizer. I was joined by 4 people but the only dish I sampled was the duck entree and it was really really great. The accompanying sauce really compliemented the duck (which was actually a bit overcooked for my taste--but I didnt order it so not a BFD). FANTABULOUS. The service was relatively slow, but I think the point of middle-eastern restaurants is to savor each course, so I'm not going to get all east-coast/DC high maintenance on the establishment.Following dinner we went downstairs and partook in some hookah smoking, wine drinking, and belly-dancer observing. I was joined by 4 men, so it was kind of awkward to see these guys who were either married or coupled oggle the super hot chick giggling away. I must admit it was ZEXY, but it was still an awkward situation!Anyhoodles, should anyone ask for a restaurant recommendation while in Boston I will definitely place my vote on Tangierino.

I/we had a perfect experience here! Everything was swanky and fun. Food and service were excellent. Sangria was phenomenal. Chicken B'stilla app was heavenly...Bass was gorgeous and so prefectly prepared. Moroccan Tea was wonderful.Unimpressed with the dessert menu: limited and somewhat ordinary but that is okay as most people enjoy enough food and drink that they do not need desserts.Cool hooka bar downstairs that has a late-nite crowd.A 5th and 6th star for the cutie who works there...ps...I want to buy one of their tea pots (not sure if they would be willing but I may ask..)Definitely unique in Boston. Does anyone know any places that would be considered similar? There used to be a great Moroccan place on Cambridge St. in Inman Sq but now it is Montien (which I also love).I do wish that for the $$$$ prices that items were organic and/or locally-obtained but no mention of that in the menu.

If I were reviewing based on ambiance and uniqueness alone, I'd give Tangierino 5 stars. If I were revewing based on food and service, I'd give it 3 stars. So, I'll take the average. I don't know of another restaurant in the Boston area anything like this. There are couches instead of chairs in most places, there are belly dancers and the colors/decor makes it a very romantic place. The food, to me just isn't authentic Moroccan cuisine, in my opinion. Maybe it's supposed to be "modern" but I prefer the traditional style. The table service is hit or miss. I've had both great and not-so-great waitstaff experiences there. I do have to say, though, that I really like the bartenders here (on the restaurant side). All in all, if you're looking for something different and "off-beat" for a city like Boston, I'd recommend you check it out.

Yum. So good. Went here the other night for the BF's big birthday. Man, oh, man, wish I had two stomachs. Started with the tuna tartar-esque appetizer. So fresh. I then had the chicken couscous tagine. Love the cous. BF had the zataar spiced rack of lamb. He said perfection, I trusted. The waitstaff was extremely attentive and friendly. Decor fab. Would have given 5 stars except the dessert fell flat. Unfortunately they served a creme brulee with a liquidy top. C'mon, everyone knows you have to fully brulee the top! Must have crunch! Overall a great date place, would definitely go back.

This place lost a lot of style when it was rennovated. Used to have bellydancers and a shabby/cool feel. Now it's pretty standard in decor. The food is decent, strangely put together though-meaning some of the pairings didn't quite jive to me. Pricey for the quality. Their menu is also pretty stagnant. Props for having a hooka bar downstairs if you are into that sort of thing, I'm not, but at least it's different. I wouldn't go out of your way for this place if you don't live in Charlestown.

I used to love this place. My fiance and I went here for our one year anniversary and had a delicious meal, as well as got to sit in the hookah bar right away. I would have highly recommended the foie gras and the lamb shank couscous. The wines are pretty good, especially the Spanish ones. The 3 times we went after this kept going downhill. We always told our server in advance that we would like to smoke the hookah but once we had to wait for 1.5 hours and another time we never got in. The last time I went they had just finished remodeling and it smelled like varnish. The menu was limited and the food was ehhhh. We smoked the hookah and that was probably the best part of the night. I hope they have improved since last November but I am not sure if I would want to chance the trip all the way out to Charlestown.

I used to come here very often before the remodel and really enjoyed it, both for the adjacent well priced hookah bar and interesting Moroccan food. But ever since the remodel it's changed, and not for the better. The service was a little slow, but overall relatively on-time. They've really upped the ante on the decor and it sorta feels a little overwhelming. It seems like they've cut down on the traditional Moroccan menu and have been focusing on the "New World" menu which tastes really good but just isn't really a big draw. They've also almost doubled the cost of hookah in their new downstairs lounge. It's a bigger space, but somehow we all felt more confined and not as personal as the old lounge. It's still a good place to smoke, but you might be better off just spending the money on buying yourself one. They still have a good and interesting beer selection which I enjoy ordering from. Overall It's a nice place to go on a date to, or take someone your showing around, but otherwise it's just not worth it anymore..

If you've ever had a long day, the kind that just socks the life right outta ya and leaves you wanting nothing but sheer, unbridled relaxation with a close friend or loved one, come to Tangierino and smoke some shisha. The downstairs ambiance alone is enough to sooth the soul, with its low-slung ceilings and chic yet wildly comfortable furniture. With a group or in an intimate pair, you'll be transported to another place, away from stress and nonsense. The wafting smells of fruit-laced smoke carry throughout, minced with the occasional cigar--there's no better place to pull up a sexy chair and pass the pipe...legally, that is.Mix of few flavors on the menu (so sweet is the blueberry and strawberry) or try one of their nightly specials like guava or pear. Order a few cocktails (equally as sweet) and proceed to sip and smoke your way to a state of bliss. The other-wordly setting, attentive yet not-overwhelming service and instant injection of relaxation is worth the spend.

One of my colleagues pointed Tangierino out as one of the most romantic spots in Boston, so we were excited to try it out. The decor of Tangierino is GORGEOUS. It is Moroccan themed, dark, with beautiful jewel tones everywhere. I just want to hang out here all of the time. Its comfy, warm, and sexy, a truly ideal location for a group celebration or a romantic date.We had a reservation, but ended up sitting at the bar. The bartender was awesome, chatty, friendly, and super interested in the food and drinks of the restaurant. We first ordered the shellfish platter which came with a delicious variety of sauces, including harissa, one of my favorite things in the world. Sooo spicy and delicious! I had clams, shrimp, and crab, all dunked in the sauces, and they were fresh and succulent.By the time we finished the shellfish platter, I ordered a Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. I am just loving IPA's these days. We were quite full, but listened to the recommendation of our bartender and ordered chicken b'stila, a lovely phyllo dough filled with chicken, spiced with cinnamon, and served with a yogurt sauce. We also ordered pumpkin seed crusted scallops which came with a to die for salad that had artichokes and an orange Grand Marnier sauce. I thought I would be too full for dessert, but hubby ordered the chocolate caramel mousse pyramid, which had fluffy, airy chocolate mousse on the outside and spongy, caramel cake on the inside. It was surprisingly light, and perfectly chocolatey and delish. I wanted to try about 15 other things on the menu, so I will have to make an effort to return soon. If you are coming to Boston or live here, I would definitely recommend this dining experience because it really is quite the experience from the second you walk in.For photos and additional reviews visit http://traveleatlove.w...!

A female co-worker and I went to Tangierino last night to kick-off Boston Restaurant Week. I made reservations with OpenTable at 7:30pm. We opted for the valet service and were seated promptly as we got in.Ambience: Excellent! Great decor, dimly lit for a more romantic feel, but bright enough to see the furnishings. The chairs were big and fancy, but comfortable. It seemed like it came directly from a sultan's palace.Food: We both had the three course dinner along with a bottle of A-Z Oregon Pinot Noir. My date enjoyed her meal and I thought my food was delicious, especially the eggplant with what seemed like breadcrumbs sprinkles on the outside.Service: Good service. Our waiter was attentive and refilled our wine glasses when we were running low. He took each plate of food off the table when we were done without interupting the conversation we were having.Price: The bill was about $130 before tip. It is on the pricey side, but these types of establishments are not meant to be an everyday thing unless you're Bill Gates... or me :)Overall, I give it 4 stars. I would give it 4 1/2 if Yelp had this choice.

Tangierino is a great place to go to for a great overall dining experience. Unique decor, good service, belly dancers and tagines! The food was very good.

Went here for my birthday last night. This place is dark and romantic and mostly spectacular. Still couldn't give 5 stars due to some problems though. Here's the evening in a nutshell:- We arrive early for a 7PM reservation, we are invited to sit at the bar tho the place is nearly empty. OK. I get a specialty cocktail which is all watered down. Our bartender tells us she's a trainee. For $12 cocktail? I send it back. I get a drink that is basically a kir royale but with a fancier name that also costs $12. It's fine. My boyfriend gets a whiskey with one rock, when it is delivered they say "the rock already melted" how? Is this hot whisky? - They attempt to seat us at a lounge style table where you are on a sofa but far from the low table. The only other occupants of the room we are in is a table of 12, next to us. I ask for different seating. The matre d is shocked I don't want this special table. Why would I? The bartender walks my drink to my table which I think is very nice. The room is very dark, but lovely.- I have the chicken Bstilla appetizer, it is amazing in both taste and texture. My beau has the foie gras, which is accidentally served cold, it is sent back, it is returned warmer with many apologies. The waitress suggests a wine for our meal and it is in fact, amazing. - I get the lamb mrouzia and it is amazing. Perfectly lean little cubes of lamb in sweet spicy sauce with a pile of (lukewarm) figs and dates and the greatest (lukewarm) couscous of my life. Fluffy and moist and sweet it is unlike any couscous I've ever had in my life. The waitress tells us all about how they make it from scratch here at the restaurant. She is the perfect blend of informative and pleasant without becoming overly involved in our visit. An excellent waitress. My boyfriend gets the Four Bone Za'atar Spiced Rack of Lamb but is less impressed, its good, but not life changing like my entree. A belly dancer wanders through but there is no space for her to dance, so she's left to awkwardly jingle near your table. Coworkers keep talking to her, she stops dancing and chats back. It's a nice idea but it doesn't really come together.- Apparently my boyfriend tells the waitress to surprise me with desert for my b-day but she shows up with mint tea as if I know a suprise is coming, I am puzzled about how she knows I want tea. Not knowing a desert is coming I drink all the tea (oh it is so good). Flourless chocolate cake arrives and it is unmemorable. I could certainly use a gallon more of that tea though...Would definitely return but I'd stick to traditional moroccan food rather than the new world entrees. Also, what up with all the lukewarm? This place is great in places but uneven. When they iron out the little problems it will be worth the sweet coin it costs to dine here.

Love the decor, the ambiance, dark and sexy and so romantic. My favorite dish entree here is the duck and their yummy cocktail list. The hookah bar downstairs is also very fun esp going with a group of friends. The service has always been wonderful here too. Would def come here again in a heartbeat!

I've been to Tangierino twice. My boyfriend chose this as my birthday dinner and he and I also took my mom and dad here for my mom's birthday and participated in the restaurant week as well. First off, it's beautiful in here. A little on the dark side, but makes for an extremely romantic environment. Staff is very polite and respectful and was patient when we couldn't make up our mind on drinks. They follow some nice Moroccan traditions such as washing your hands in this metal bucket before dinner. They pour warm scented water over your hands and it falls into the bucket and then they have you towel your hands off. Now for the food.....it is DELICIOUS and it's a nice change of pace to have something other than the typical New American, Italian, etc. I have had the "Sea Bass, pistachio crusted, vanilla bean-saffron-turnip puree, baby spinach, leeks, orange-sake reduction" (which they now changed to Halibut) and on my second visit, I got the Tagine of Beef....They were both SO good. For my appetizer during restaurant week, I got the Chicken B'Stila which was very generous and yummy. Drinks are strong here and the prices reflect the pour of alcohol. ha. My dad was impressed because they had a nice beer menu including his 10% alcohol beer, "Chimay". Both my visits were pleasant, no problems getting a reservation, sat us immediately both times.. Second time around we got seated in this little covered area with couches and a low table which was a nice change to eating at a higher table and stiff wooden chairs. It was a nice surprise and they remembered my mom's birthday. They wished her a "Happy Birthday" at the beginning of our meal and they put a candle on her Tiramisu dessert. It is definitely pricey to visit often, but I will definitely return for a special occasion or maybe just to try the Hookah Bar "Khoullishi" next time! (The fruity smelling smoke from the basement smelled sooooo good)

We arrived at 8:05pm for our 8pm reservation and were informed our table wasn't ready yet, so we ordered a pitcher of tasty, sweet sangria and two glasses and made ourselves comfortable at the bar until we were finally seated. At 8:47.I ordered the short ribs and the couscous royal, both of which were amazing. The beef in the first course was so tender, and the lamb in main course was so succulent. My boyfriend ordered the jumbo shrimp and the beef tagine. The shrimp were perfectly spiced and amazing (and the chickpeas in the dish were wonderful) and the beef was great, too, but I didn't love it as much as the lamb.I wasn't excited about the dessert selection: a lemon meringue tart or tiramisu. I'd been hoping for baklava, at least. We both ordered the tart, and it was good, but in comparison to the deliciousness of the rest of the meal, it seemed ordinary. I didn't finish mine, but my boyfriend finished his.If I were only rating the food, I would've given Tangierino five stars, despite the lackluster dessert. But the service was unnerving. The 45-minute wait for our table was ridiculous when we'd had a reservation, but what freaked us both out was the attitude of the staff. While we were at the bar, someone on staff accidentally dropped a glass. It shattered on the floor. The manager flipped his wig. The staff hopped to like scared children, sweeping up the glass and wiping up the mess. Each time after when a waiter/waitress picked up someone's drink from the bar, they looked so terrified that they might drop and break it and upset the manager again. It was kind of scary. After we'd been seated, my boyfriend said, "Did you notice that the entire staff is really passive? Except for the manager. He really set this place up to make everyone kowtow to him." And it's true. And freaky. It made me uncomfortable, and despite the amazing meal, I don't think I'll be back.

I would give this place negative stars if I could.I flew out 3000 miles from California for a fancy Moroccan experience with my super hot sexy date. Tangierino failed in the following categories:FAILURE #1- Service: The host was a total dip-shi+. Marissa was her name, I believe. Managers take note, she messed up our reservation and left us waiting at the bar without even checking up on us. After finishing a round of drinks, we had to ask her what was up with our table. Lo and behold, the dummies at the hosting kiosk blame it on their own misunderstanding and take no initiative to rectify the situation. They just seat us and say a useless "sorry for the wait." Booshiyit. Comp our mother-freakin' drinks, biatch! We get seated at a shitty ass corner table and find that the restaurant was not even busy! My eye was twitching out of anger at this point-- and we hadn't even ordered food just yet.FAILURE #2- Authenticity: An Asian belly dancer? ... Seriously? I came here for some Middle Eastern hips, but instead I get a 'buttaface' Asian chick who can't even do the shimmy on rhythm to the music! You can trick anyone with flailing arms and a sash, but I've taken belly dancing classes and know the difference between fluid arm movements and flailing arms. I was EXTREMELY disappointed.FAILURE #3- Food: Okay, I guess this isn't much of a failure since I did eat almost half my plate [because I was hungry], but my date is a skillful amateur chef who has mastered the art of searing seafood. He felt that my tuna had been over seared and was not up to his standards. After he mentioned it, I agreed because I am the type of girl who is easily persuaded and has no opinion. [HAHA =P] It was also the first time in my life I had ever eaten seared tuna. So I trust his judgment. To top the list of failures, the hostess decided to F' us over one more time by denying us a seating space in the hookah lounge after our waiter had told us we were taken care of. We go downstairs and speak with Miss Dipshit after having been advised to do so by our server. She AGAIN tells us that there is a wait, and asks if we would like to sit at the bar AGAIN and wait AGAIN for a seat to become available in the lounge.I look at my date, and we communicate to one another using only our eyes that were flaming with fury at this point. We said, "Fuc* this!" And proceeded to bizzounce on the hizzounce. The bad customer service provided here is enough for me to blacklist this establishment indefinitely.

Located in a quaint neighborhood of Charlestown, MA Tangierino is a true dining experience. The North African/Middle Eastern cuisine is as delicious as it is beautifully presented. The ambiance is unique and lends itself to a real "get away" feel. After you are seated in a comfortable and spacious enclave a man will come with a silver pot of warm water and catch basin to run over your hands before dining. Belly dancers make their way through the dining room. It's ok though; they don't solicit your attention unless you indicate you want it or are enjoying it. The wait staff is attentive and kind. If you want to get away and don't mind spending a little more than the usual (average entree is between $28-$35, appetizers $12-$15) then this is the place for you. And don't leave without trying the mint green tea to finish your meal. I love tea and this was like nothing I've ever had before. It was bitter sweet, but the sweetness was not cloying and did not linger as granulated sugar or other sweetner tend to do. I asked about it and the waiter told me that they seep mint in the green tea all day long with a sugar cane; yes, the actual cane sits with the tea all day to infuse that bold yet ephemeral-like sweetness. I don't recommend Tangierino. That would be saying too little. I recommend the Tanierino experience!

Definitely a place to visit at least once.Really good:Rack of lambFleurs du Jardin martiniValet and waitress - super friendlyThe ambiance - dark, romantic, bold colors but not distractingGood:The olives and hummus plate that they give you for freeFilet with couscousTV at the bar but not in the restaurant area - good decisionNot so good:The hosts (or whoever was running the show that night) were a little preoccupied and a little stuck up The hookah/cigar area downstairs doesn't take reservations and we didn't feel like hanging around waiting for a table after we had already eaten dinner. It is strange to me that guests who eat dinner upstairs can't make a reservation for a table for after their meal.

This is a great restaurant, even if there is something a little ridiculous about it.I spent four months in Morocco a couple years ago, and I would say that almost all of the menu (save the seven vegetable couscous) does not reflect what I had in my home stay or when I was out for meals. That said, who cares? What Tangierino does is capture the essence of what Americans perceive as "Moroccan." You've got the decorating which is reminiscent of turn of the century Orientalist perceptions of harems, the belly dancers, and the alcoholic drinks - which of course are not authentic for a largely Muslim country. Anyway, I took my mom there for her birthday and she was in heaven. She loves the sense of the exotic and Tangierino does that flawlessly. But authenticity aside, the food is fantastic. I had chicken skewers on ricotta, oh my gosh. The chicken was perfect and the ricotta was so creamy and delicious. And the appetizers were amazing - especially the eggplant and the calamari was great too. I also had a cocktail and sampled a lot of others - very good and strong (my poor mother!) but for $12, maybe a little much. The worse thing about this restaurant is the prices - but I think they are fair given the both the quantity quality of their food. Given a choice, I would go back there as frequently as I could afford it.

I went here last Monday for my bday dinner with my bf his fam. The place was empty but the ambiance was still nice. The hostest greeted us and sat us right away.Being a vegetarian, I was a little surprised that there was only one veggie entree. Service was slow- food was just ok-I dont think I would come back because it is super pricy for what it is- ALso, no belly dancer ;(

5 of my girlfriends and I were so excited for this dinner. We arrived at the restaurant and were told to wait at the bar because our table wasn't ready. You could see there was something going on as the hostess and manager were going back and forth whether or not to seat us. They sat us nearly right away, in a tent. This "tent" had a light out and it was literally impossible to see the menu. We all had our cell phones out trying to read what was on the menu. When we asked the waiter for more candles or to fix the light, he was not impressed and only after our food arrived and we asked for a 3rd time did he bring us the candles. We ordered dinner and it arrived within 5 minutes. The waiter came over several times to take our food away that we were STILL EATING. We finished the meal and the food was great. The waiter 5 of my girlfriends and I were so excited for this dinner. No offer of coffee or dessert. So we asked and he said "yes, we have a dessert menu, you can also have dessert downstairs." So obvious they were rushing us out the door. When we were leaving we told the manager that it was apparent they wanted us out. He offered us free dessert downstairs, but our feelings had already been hurt so we declined. He also said he was 'aware of the situation' and specifically told the waiter to offer us dessert! What "situation" was he aware of? As we were outside leaving, the manager came after us with the waiter and said "He says he did offer you dessert." Atrocious customer service. It's too bad, the food and atmosphere was great - the service from the waiter to the manager was awful. Our reservation was for 8pm, they had us out the door by 8:50.

My boyfriend and I have been to this place twice. The first time we visited we didn't like the place at all, food wasn't great for the price and service was simply OK (we sat at the bar). I guess we were expecting more since I had been recommended. We decided to give it a second chance, this time, the service was a little better but towards the end they forgot about the lonely couple once the large parties started to come in.

I went here last night with 2 friends and it was all around a great experience. The seating was nicely spaced (you don't sit on top of people like in the restaurants in the north end). The decor is really nice. Now I like ethnic foods but didn't know what to order so I had the waiter order for me and it was a great decision. The eggplant appetizer (Moroccan-Sicilian Eggplant Tagine) is awesome and the vegetable couscous was also great. I had the 8 oz Sultan's Kadra for my entree and it was delicious. Next time I go I will probably order the lamb, ribs or chicken over vegetable couscous. The one thing I didn't enjoy was the cocktail I ordered, I can't remember the name and it's not listed on the website's menu. All in all I will be going back to Tangierino, once I find a night I want to splurge on dinner. 4.5 stars.

I came here with a friend on a Saturday night around 8:30. We Valet parked the car after unsuccessfully circling around for like 15 minutes for street parking. I had to pay upfront $15 for the Valet, which I found a little strange. We get inside, the hookah lounge was full, so we decided to wait at the bar upstairs until the waitress calls us. We had a drink, and then decided to go downstairs to look for our waitress, and we were seated by the owner, I think! We ordered the eggplant/goat cheese appetizer which was really good and a blueberry flavored Hookah. My friend ordered red wine and I got beer. The place is on the dark and romantic side with loud music, uncomfortable seats (at least for me), and expensive! It was a nice experience, we had a good time, but I wouldn't come here often.

I have been wanting to go here for months, pretty much since I have found it on here when I joined. My friend finally brought me here for my birthday. We got the VIP treatment! We got the "cave" for free, usually it's $30 to reserve but because it was slow and my birthday celebration they gave this romantic abode for free. I felt like a princess in that cushy room as I was being served impressive hookahs and alcoholic beverages while lounging with my shoes off. The music would go from Frank Sinatra to Bollywood and it worked! This is MY type of classy restaurant! Dark, sultry, beautiful and with hookahs! The food was superb, it was a little strange to me that they didn't have more vegetarian options. I'm not a vegetarian I just prefer it over meat usually. My only negatives of the place were the tvs, they didn't fit. And WARNING TO MY FELLOW HOOKAH LOVERS: You have to pay for the hookahs by the hour, and it's easy to lose yourself there so it racks up to a pretty penny. But I suppose this place DOES get busy and it's their only way of regulating it. I would love going here with a few friends just to enjoy the hookah for a few hours, just for the atmosphere.
