Georgetown Tobacco Reviews

I had the same experience here as Rae did. I was here with a few friends, knew nothing about tobacco, and the staff was overall very helpful.

knowing nothing about cigars and feeling kind of intimidated, the staff there were really helpful and helped me pick out a few yummy Kahlua and chocolate flavored cigars. Fun stuff!

Outstanding cigar shop! Thay have a great selection of cigars, and they carry Davidoff Zino. The staff is sagacious and knowlagable about all cigars, and the correct way to enjoy them. One of the men behind the counter informed me that smoking cigars was, "an art." This is what a smoke shop should be! But the best part about Georgwetwom tobacco is that they have a small area to sit and smoke cigars in. It's not a back room or anything just two cozy, horay chairs behind a counter. It's a great place to enjoy a cigar and talk smoke with the employees.

im not a cigar person (and never will be! wayy too strong!) but they do have other ranges in cigarettes and shisha. now im not the type of smoker who goes out the the nearest convience store and buys a pack of marlboros. my friend would either order djarums for me online or will go out to d.c. somewhere. and i think any tobacco aficionado would know that cloves are illegal in maryland (sucks!) but the second i went in there and asked the owner if he had djarum vanillas i was shocked he pulled out a carton full of them! im not a big smoker and i hate puttings ciggs in the freezer (they taste weird) so i just asked for one pack. the prices are reasonable as cloves are slightly more expensive than reg ciggs. but i would def come in again if im ever in the mood to buy shisha or good pack of cloves.

When in the DC area, this is the shop to go for cigars...........i was able to procure my wanted cohiba and hang outside while my girl was wandring the streets.........just heaven on earth. this little shop made my trip to Washington almost as memorable as Arlington. but not quite, although i did smoke my cigar in Arliongton as a toast to the many fallen heroes.

"You need this cut?" said the tobaccanist. I was in the Humidifier at Georgetown Tobacco and he was selling me a cigar. He recommended something robust. "Something less than five dollars," I said to the man. He selected a stubby black cigar, that looked like it'd already been smoked. My friend Meyers had already purchased his stogue, and had it sealed in a neat see-through bag. "It's a good smoke," the man assured me. "Robusto blend," it said on the label. It smelled robust, more or less. We took a stroll along the canal, Meyers and me, pausing time and again to read those historical plaques and re-light our cigars. Women and children both turned their noses in disgust at the aroma, but I found it to be both robust and woody, with reminiscences of rich mohagany. Let's hope these boys never go out of business....May this place outlast the fall of smoking. I predict that the decline of smoking means the rise of cigars. Will they start a smoking club?

Love this place! Although I'm not a big cigar smoker when I get one I really want a good one. I went in asking for a particular smoke and the salesman (I love that they are always smoking a big old cigar themselves) recommended another brand. It was a Gurkha by the way and I haven't smoked anything else since, I highy recommend them! Anyway, great service and great selection, there is no other smoke store in DC in my opinion...

A helpful and friendly staff are quick to assist me in picking cigars for my occasional habit. The store is convenient to Georgetown for when I need to grab a cigar or two for City Tavern Club. This place is not a cigar bar- simply a shop. GT is expensive but look where you are. For a cigar bar, go to Shelley's Backroom Tavern in Metro Center.

This is the only place in town that has SNUS. REAL SNUS from SWEDEN not the crap Camel brand. This store usually has a great aroma of cigars. Tastefully decorated with a helpful, if somewhat quirky staff.

Everyone needs a dirty habit. (Aside from driving too fast on Mass Ave., spending too much money at restaurants and drinking too much wine.)Excellent selection of cigars. Plenty of the $3-4 variety with a host of smokes above $10. The staff is generally helpful, and will do their best to point you in the right direction if you need some assistance. I've found that their recommendations gravitate toward the thicker, meatier cigars- be warned if you prefer the soft, creamy variety. Can't beat the convenience. Prices aren't unusual for a city shop. Combine trips in Georgetown and pick up a smoke for the weekend.

Great shop. It's big with a very large selection of cigars from the cheap to the expensive. I didn't talk with the staff much, but when purchasing, they offered to cut it for me, which was good, since I was planning to walk down to Dupont and smoke it on the way. While looking around, the staff asked me if I had any questions or was looking for anything in particular, which I wasn't, but they were attentive and friendly throughout my one visit. Their prices were reasonable for single sticks, although the boxes were higher than one can get online, which is par for the course, really. The only bad part is that it's in Georgetown.Bad part: the cigar burned horribly, despite tasting pretty decent.

If you want a cigar, go here. If you want a feel-good smoking experinece, well, this place is OK. The kind of service you gt here iss great...if you'e a serious smoker. I loved the fact that I told them what I liked, they asked if I'd tried something else and I said yes and didnt like this or that and they found something new for me to try and it was gorious. The prices are highish, but the selection is probably the best I found when I was in DC.

It was the place to go for the clove cigarettes that us cool hipster girls had to smoke back in the day. I like it's old guy feel nowadays... like the sweater vest, hard shoes, and high waisted pants dude would come here for cigars. It's really a pretty decent spot in an OK location - not readily accessible but not out of the way either. Really helpful staff and totally nice:) not the normal tobacco magazine snobs.

I stumbled into this shop while wandering Georgetown. Nice selection, friendly staff who were conversational as I sat in store and enjoyed a smoke. The real selling point for me was the selection of rare Opus X cigars sitting on the counter when I walked in. My 2004 Forbidden was definitely the real deal, and led to a great afternoon on my porch. Well done Georgetown Tobacco!

Of DC's many purveyors of tobacco, this place has to be the best. Not only do they have a wide array of cigars, pipes, hookahs (and all assorted sundries) - they have a friendly, knowledgeable staff. I have never had trouble finding exactly the cigar I wanted, and likewise, I have never been "burned" by purchasing a bad cigar here.In fact, once when the sales guy was inspecting my purchases as I was checking out, he found a slight imperfection and immediately traded it out for me. Without my asking. Now that's great customer service. These guys are also my go-to for advice about humidor upkeep.Bottom line - I highly recommend this place to all cigar and hookah lovers.

Every so often for whatever reason, I have a craving for a cigar. The best tobacco store I've found in the city is Georgetown Tobacco. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I enjoy chatting with them. The prices are appropriate and they have a great selection.

This place is great and would get five stars, but the staff always seems to rub me the wrong way. The selection is great, and the atmosphere is what you would expect from a classic cigar store, wood paneling and thick plumes of smoke. No complaints here about the cigars themselves. Also, the price is really quite reasonable considering the area. Now on to the staff. The older gentleman at this place are class acts, if you have a question or want a recommendation they are gracious and always helpful. However, the younger guys carry themselves with a condescending air about them. On one occasion I was assisted by someone who looked like he just finished his first shave, yet every word he said dripped with arrogance. I became slightly amused by this when he mispronounced hygrometer. On another visit, I was checking out when a different employee used the word pedantic. Who uses pedantic in everyday speech? Again rather ironic/amusing as his entire demeanor was quite, for lack of a better word, pedantic. I've noticed that the younger, less experienced, less gracious employees tend to have moved on by the evening hours, perhaps called home by mother for dinner, so try stopping by around eight or nine PM. On the whole though, the place is great.Allow me to add a disclaimer of sorts. I am not turned off by arrogance, and, to be candid, I am quite arrogant myself. So, for me to be annoyed by the level of pretension displayed by some of the staff is saying something.

Really fun store for the smoker, when doing some Georgetown window shopping. -Especially- fun when you have not had a cigarette in a few days. I think you can get a nicotine contact high just by walking in. It smells wonderful and you can catch the aroma wafting out into the street riding the cool breeze coming up off the Potomac. I resisted the urge to be like the last 1000 dicks and and bust out with the lame "Show me your Cubans"... Sigh... I hope Obama will let us start to buy real Cubans again soon, instead of having to sneak around with them... :)
