I was pretty excited to eat here, but was quite disappointed once the food arrived. It was pretty much bland tasting - and the only way you could add flavor was if you used the mint chutney. One tasty item was the naan bread.

The chicken was super juicy and delicious. Portions big. The fruit that came with my kabob was pretty sad, though. My girlfriend's cauliflower side was bland, but my eggplant side was pretty good. Torn between 3 and 4 stores. I'd go back, but I've definitely had better afghan.

Hands down, one of the best spots in Courthouse!!!  Hands down!!  I've been here numerous times now and have never been disappointed.  I've had the chicken, beef and lamb kabobs and all are one of the best tasting, quality meats I've ever had.  They're sides are of equal quality.  I've had either the spinach and rice or the lamb curry and rice...both are just great.  The amount of food and the quality of food you get is remarkable for the price.  Just a great spot here in Courthouse!!

Went there for the first time today.  Great Great food with generous portions.  I had the lamb kabob with hummus, chickpeas and rice and they were all amazing, I seriously devoured all the food.  The owner and staff were so friendly. It reminded me of living in Europe where the owners actually try and get to know you. Great non-chainy place! Arlington needs more of them!!!!

Just a little update... I've been here a bunch more times and the chicken kabob has been cooked perfectly and is extremely tasty. I've also had the lamb which is excellent and the rice is extremely tasty as well. I was excited to see that Courthouse Bistro closed down as I didn't see it lasting there very long…

Fantastic kabobs, especially for the court house area, which doesn't have many food options.  The boneless chicken kabob was well-seasoned and I definitely recommend the chickpeas side and the rice with the carrots in it.  You'll definitely get your money's worth! The ordering process is a bit confusing; it's hard to understand that you can get bread and two other sides with your kabob, but once the ordering process is complete, it's not too long of a wait to get your food.  An added bonus- outside seating!

Yet another place that I've been to many, many times, and for some reason have never reviewed (totally out of character). This place continues to deliver. I've never strayed from the grilled chicken kabobs, but other folks I've dined with have, and they all rave about everything on the menu. The chicken is juicy and tasty (not over spiced or salty....yippee), and the offerings of sides could be a match for any taste buds. I usually go w/ the hummus and potatoes, but other choices include salad, fruit, chick peas, and various vegi options. The owners and staff couldn't be nicer and often go above and beyond to make sure everyone has enough sauce, food, and drinks (no nickel/dime upcharge that has become so typical of all kabob places). There's street parking (metered)....bring change....because you WILL get a ticket if you don't feed that while you're feeding yourself. I had to sprint back to my car after lunch to beat the meter maid...and after the humongous portions that I consumed....ouch.

The Afghan Kabob House is about half a mile from my office and I'll stop by a few times a month for lunch.  The staff is extremely friendly and patient.  For $10-$11 I can get the chicken kabob platter, which comes with 8 large, juicy pieces of chicken right off of the skewer.  The chicken goes onto an enormous piece of fresh flatbread.  I then have a choice of a salad, fruit, or hummus.  Next, you decide what kind of rice you'd like (usually 3 or 4 options like white, brown, brown with carrots and raisins, and white with spinach).  On top of the rice they will scoop one additional veggie/side, like cauliflower, eggplant, lentils, chickpeas, or another chicken dish.  You also get a side sauce of mild, spicy, or yogurt sauce.  The spicy is pretty hot, especially if you get the bits at the bottom.  I think the mild is a combo of the spicy and the yogurt sauces.Every time I have been I have been greeted by several people with a smile.  I say that they are patient because, when choosing a side dish, you don't know what most/any of the 8 options are, and they will gladly tell you what each on is, even after telling the person right in front of you.  I would recommend that they put up signs/cards that explain what each side dish is.The one "complaint" I would have is it is not very quick.  Now, there's a good reason.  They don't put the chicken on the grill until you order it, so you know it's fresh.  But it can take 10 minutes of standing in limbo waiting for your number to be called.  Certainly not a real complaint because it leads to very fresh food. The food is amazing and the staff is nice.  The restaurant itself is very clean.  I highly recommend this place.

As most of the other review have stated, I was pumped to have a Kabob joint open up in court house.  Really enjoy the "kabob row" of places in Pentagon City, so something close to home was very welcome.  Unfortunately, this place did not even compare to it's cousins in Pentagon City.  I had the boneless chicken kabob, and wifey had the mixed kabob with boneless chicken and kibeebah.  The only way I can really describe the meat is BLAND!  It was seriously lacking in flavor, and was very overcooked.    The sauces were a must to give the meal any sort of flavor.  Also, the N'aan had also been cooked for too long.  Usually, it has a little crisp, but somewhat chewy in the middle.  Mine was basically a giant cracker. Curried potatoes and rice were fine, but overall, not a very good meal.  Sad, because the staff was SUPER nice, and the place was nice, with outside seating.  I really hope it was just an off day.

I didn't like the Kabob-meat as much as Ravi or Rose (Ballston and Vienna, respectively), but this is a better location than both and generally cheaper to boot.  With that in mind, I give it a good rating.  And the best thing this place has going for it is FRIENDLY STAFF!  That seems to be a rarity in kabob spots around the region, but here everyone was really cool.  When it comes time to pick your sides, they don't roll their eyes if you ask questions, and more importantly, they give you a choice of salad dressing for that side salad you always get with a kabob.   You get two other choices, I think there were three or four varieties of rice, the usual chickpeas (not quite as smoky/spicy as Ravi, sadly), and some other stuff I'm too much of a gringo to recognize.  You also get to choose what sauce you want to go with your kabob; from the traditional yogurt to some spicy green stuff I liked a lot. They, like most of the kabob houses, also cook to order - so do expect about a 10 minute wait if you're looking for some carry-out.  Small price to pay for a hell of a meal.

For grabbing a quick dinner on your way home from the metro: 4 starsCompared to other kabob places: 2 stars I discovered savory, authentic kabob when I was in London and got addicted to it.  Then there happened to be a really great kabob place in my old neighborhood.  Therefore, I had high expectations.  If you live in Courthouse and want something filling and fast to pick up for dinner, this is a better option than the neighborhood Cal Tortilla, Boston Market  or other chains.  But if you love good kabob, the food is so-so and tastes like a chain.  The lamb was seasoned well but not cooked to a great consistency.  The sauces were ok, nothing special.  The bread tasted like bread you'd get at the regular grocery store.  The side of chickpeas was bland.  Also, we waited over 20 minutes (when it wasn't busy and no line) for our take out order.

I was so excited to see that an Afghan Kabob house was opening in Courthouse! Please bear in mind that I had really high expectations for this place.  Having moved here from NYC a few months ago - my only experience ever with Afghan kabobs had been there.I have tried their oven baked lamb (which has since been discontinued) and their lamb kabob.  The lamb kabob was marinated well but a little dry and over cooked for me.  But if you mix it with the rice and sauce then it is pretty yummy (get the spicy sauce!).  The first time I ate there the rice was overcooked and I was not impressed.  I also thought the bread was very dry and a little overcooked as well. But I gave them a second chance since perhaps they had just opened and were still working out the kinks.  The second time the rice was much better.  I opted out on the bread and got an extra side of vegetable this time.  Their sides are very good and there is a lot to choose from.I would say the best thing about this place is the value.  With their main kabob entrees - you get your choice of meat, plus bread, plus salad or fruit, plus rice, plus a vegetable.  I was totally shocked that I could get all of this for less than $10!  And the owner/manager seems very nice and IS PRESENT.  I have always found that to be a good sign in any (fast food) establishment since it tends to ensure better quality.Overall - good place for above average fast food.  Don't expect restaurant or authentic quality kabobs.

Today is March 3, 2009 and according to one of the employees, this restaurant has only been open about a week. I noticed it on my way from the Rosslyn Gold's as it is located on the right hand side as you're headed away from DC, across from the Wendy's. As soon as I saw the restaurant's "Afghan Kabob House" sign, I knew I had to try it. While I'm no expert on Afghan cuisine, I have had some in the past since I used to work at a watch store called Fashion Time and they are owned by Afghans. I was greeted warmly as soon as I walked in and immediately noticed that it was very clean inside. Although I love Kabob Palace, I've never really felt the original location to be the cleanest place. So I was hoping the food would be just as good. As soon as who I presume was the owner found out I am a patron of Kabob Palace, he promised me his kabobs were better. Plus, he added, they had a better selection of sides. Well, it is mostly true. I'm not sure I would go as far as to say the kabobs were *better*, but they were indeed very good. However, this place offers a MUCH better value and more choices! There were several curries from which to choose (even some vegetarian), at least four different rices, salad, several sauces, and a small selection of fresh fruit (cut honeydew, cantaloupes, and strawberries). There were also several beverages from which to choose, but none offered much out of the way of non-high fructose corn syrup drinks. I do like the fact that Kabob Palace is well stocked with Snapple's new Green Tea line that are sweetened with plain sugar. For me, that was the only thing missing for it to have been a perfect meal. I ordered the #1 white meat chicken breast, which is what I usually order at Kabob Palace, and found it to be tender and juicy. I couldn't tell if the buttery taste was coming from the kabob or from the yogurt sauce. But it was all good. I also had some of the rice that had raisins and carrots, and the vegetable made with cauliflower along with the fresh fruit. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. I will definitely go back to try some of their other dishes, as there are many options. Hopefully they will get a website up soon so everyone can see what they have to offer along with the pricing. So if you enjoy kabob, definitely check out this new restaurant. It also doesn't hurt that I can also walk to it from my house! (But I can't see Russia from my house, sadly...) Enjoy!

I work nearby, so we were really hoping for something awesome to add to our circle of lunch places.  Or even something halfway decent.  The food was so-so.  I ate it, but only because I was hungry, and not because it tasted great.  No points there.  But the main reasons I won't be going back are oddities #3-5. Oddness:1.) Two overly loud TVs showing some foreign entertainment news. When we were there, it looked like it was Fashion Week broadcast from a Middle Eastern country.  An odd choice, to be sure.2.) Their decor is bizarre. They obviously took care to paint the walls nicely, but then they tacked up cheap-looking fake-framed posters. And they bought new tables and chairs, but they look like they bought them in the 80's.3.) They refused to give us a cup for tap water, which I'm pretty sure is a health code violation.4.) They do not have recycling for the plastic bottle we had to buy, which I know for a fact is a violation of the County's law.  When this was brought to their attention, they shrugged.  Who does that? 5.) I got the fruit salad as a side, and they very carefully placed exactly 2 strawberries and exactly 2 kiwi slices (one at a time) on top of my cantaloupe and melon. Don't be stingy with the fruit that actually tastes like something, or at least don't make it obvious that you're being stingy by doling them out one piece at a time.To sum up, in the first weeks of being open, when they ought to be instilling goodwill and making their customers overjoyed with their service, they instead nickel and dime you by not letting you get free water and pinch pennies over how many slices of kiwi you can have.  I hope the $2 they got from my water purchase was worth me never stopping in again.

I am thrilled to have a top notch Afghan Kabob house within walking distance to my house. For the past 4+ years, I had to get into my carbon emitter and drive to Ravi Kabob if I wanted good Kabob's... but I think Afghan Kabob House is better! Why is it better? Friendlier for starters. Granted, this is the opening few weeks, and the owner is there and is all smiles. But I've always found the Ravi Kabob people to be particularly gruff. But it goes beyond friendliness. Unlike most other kabob houses of this nature, you have a choice of 4 different kinds of rice, you have a choice of several different salad dressings, you have a choice for different kinds of dipping sauces, and the number of choices for vegetable sides is greater. The portions are huge (honestly, unless I'm famished, I could normally split this meal with a friend) and the price is right. The food was delicious. My only nit pick is that they do not (nor does anyone else in Arlington so far) top the scrumptious chick peas found at Charcoal Kabob in Herndon, VA.... but they were still quite good.Oh, and one other nit pick... I'd like to see them put out a recycling bin.

This place needs to be discovered. Given the quality of the food and the service, I have little doubt it will be (as long as it isn't cursed by the building's history of high restaurant turnover). Note: this is not a sit-down restaurant, but has plenty of tables to bring your tray o'food, including ones outdoors.I ordered the Kabob Combo and chose chicken and lamb. Both were tender and delicious with light seasonings.  The meal comes with naan and: 1) salad or fruit and 2) choice of rice and 3) choice of side. It's a lot of food.  Their salad comes with dressing, which I applaud because their competitors don't offer salad dressings.  Afghan Kabob offers my personal favorite type of rice:  with carrots and raisins.  They also have several different vegetable appetizers, of which I chose the cauliflower and the eggplant (because our kind server gave us a freebie, see below). Other options include lentils, potatos, chickpeas and spinach.  All of the sides (I got to try 4) were delicious.  Next time, I'll consider getting the vegetable platter so I can enjoy more of them.Get the Chopan Kabob.  It's lamb chops with amazing seasoning.  It takes longer to cook, but is so worth it. My handsome companion shared his with me and he won the food selection contest this time. The service was phenomenal.  Jon and I ordered together, so they served us at the same time. Since Jon's order took longer, the man who took our order apologized to both of us and asked if we'd be ok with him serving customers who came after us.  When serving us, he gave us each an extra side as appreciation, and even gave me extra tzatziki sauce with my eggplant side.  He also made sure we had drinks.  He was not required to give me this special service, so I was especially appreciative of the formality of serving us together and also giving me the extra side. Also, every employee there seemed to take pride in his work.  The man helping me with my choice of sides was friendly and took time to explain things. It was nice to not feel rushed.

I have been to the Kabob House a couple of times and it actually caught my attention because people outside were smoking hookah. I know this sounds boring, but I always have the same food. It's the boneless chicken kabob with a side dish of humus, brown rice and potatoes. There is a very big choice of different side dishes but this one works out best for me. It always is delicious and I especially like the naan!!The service is great, the owner and staff take their time to explain the different dishes and you don't feel stressed at all while making your decisions. The waiting time of about 10 minutes is reasonable and the serving size is big!!!They have lots of different flavours for the hookah my favourite one is definitely Blue Mist (tastes something like blueberry) .. The second time I went there and ordered blueberry the owner did not realise I actually meant blue mist (and I had no idea that's what it was called since I have just tried it at someone elses hookah before) .. So when I actually came back the next I got a free hookah with 'blueberry' taste! I think that is part of a really great service since it adds some kind of personal flair if you still are recognized at your next visit.I am actually just coming home from the AKH and again the food was delicious, the service was great. We got a second charcoal for the hookah and a complimentery black tea! So what else do you wish for if you want a nice casual night out.I will definitely go back to the Afghan Kabob House to have many more hookahs and many more boneless chicken kabobs!

We love this place. Have never been disappointed. They have excellent selection of side dishes (Kabobs are always juicy and flavorful) Oh, the bread is always made fresh and taste great.Price is reasonable. If you are not sure what side dishes to try they will let you taste a sample. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Nearly love at first bite. Alongside Earl's, dining in Arlington is starting to look up with my discovery of AKH.At the super-cheery cashier's recommendation, I went for the chicken/lamb combo platter (even though I had initially been leaning toward the lamb kabob sandwich). The price was a tad high, but when I got my food, I could see why. You could easily feed 10 anorexics with this meal: one morsel of meat each and divvy up the rest, girls. Still, at $13.95 with a drink, this place won't make my everyday lunch spot list. The kabob was great--not the best, but great. The chicken left me unimpressed, but that's just personal preference; when it comes to kabobs, I simply lust for lamb. The salad I opted for was just salad. The spinach rice was a ho-hum "nice," (but I'm not a rice lover in general, regardless of culinary origin). The chick peas were bland--I won't be opting for that side dish on my next visit--but the naan was off the muscle. The tzatziki was too runny and somehow not sour enough--it didn't make my taste buds sing. Too bad, as one of my favorite flavor combos in the world is nicely charred and seasoned lamb doused in tzatziki.

In my book, this place is as good as it gets for tasty weeknight takeout.  The prices are right.  The meat is juicy.  The sides are fresh.  The people are nice.  I really like that for $20, I get dinner for two, including sides like velvety chickpeas (as opposed to french fries).  And oh my gosh, I just read that they now deliver.

Really, this was a great addition to the neighborhood. The place is clean, well lit, service is very fast. The choices in sides is just mouthwatering, I have enjoyed every one that I have tried. The bread and the hummus are some of the best that I have tried in the area. And of course the kabob's are awesome. Really, this place is great for all people, novices to Afghan cuisine who want a gentle exposure all the way up to people who have tried pretty much everything.

This place has amazing kabobs! I'm a huge fan of Moby's and this by far surpasses Moby's. I hate to say that but it does. The atmosphere is very casual, tables have almost a food courty feel but the food is really what matters. I ordered the SALMON KABOB. I wasnt really sure what to expect but I thought I would try it, and it was amazing! Each entree comes with salad or humus, rice ( there are 4 types to choose from), a vegetable, and a curry type side ( I chose a chicken curry), as well as pita bread and yogurt sauce. The Salmon kabob was huge chunks of Salmon. Everything on my plate was delicious. Be sure to ask for the spicy yogurt sauce as well. It's not too spicy but it has a great flavor. Portions are pretty generous. My meal was $12.Inside the restaurant looked like they served various middle eastern bottled drinks as well as fruit juices and sodas. There is also a refrigerator of ice cream ( the type of stuff you see in gas stations) to satisfy your sweet craving after all of the savory food.Check this place out you will be so happy you did!

I would always walk past this place and not pay it any attention - just another kabob place on the Wilson corridor. But, was in the mood and went in one afternoon. Tried the three meat sampler plate - with chicken, lamb, and beef, I think, and they were all fantastic. The sides were surprisingly tasty as well - would highly recommend the chickpeas. Have been back since my original visit and found that the lamb kabob sandwich is my favorite. The lamb is tender and the seasoning awesome. I will say that while the service is helpful, they are a bit slow.

I'm so glad that I've found an Afghan kabob restaurant in this area. San Francisco/Bay area where I used to live has a large Afghan population, therefore I really enjoyed Afghan kabob there (read my review of "De Afghanan").About this Afghan kabob house, I ordered Combo Kabob and chose Beef and Chicken. I usually get ONLY beef, but why not try both at a new place? The plate comes with Kabob, Afghan Bread, and you can choose rice (among 4 kinds) and 2 side dishes. I got brown rice with lamb curry and salad, which all were 5-start tasty. Afghan Bread and Chicken Kabob were amazing as well, definitely 5 star. Perfectlly cooked. What disappointed me is Beef Kabob.  It tasted like BBQ-sauce-flavor somehow and wasn't tender at all. Even though I go to Afghan Kabob restaurant to get beef kabob, I would most likely not get it from this place. Stick with Chicken Kabob. Next time, I want to try their Sandwiches.

Ever since my teenage obsession with Parker Posey Party Girl, I've wanted a falafel vendor of my own. Someone who I can snuggle up to and whisper in his ear, "Can i have a falafel with hot sauce, a side order of babagnoush, and a seltzer?"But while the gentlemen at AKH serve up a mean falafel, they fall a tad short on the sessy. Alas. My search continues.Ridiculous open-faced falafel. $5.95 for that plus two sides (I successfully chose spinach rice and cauliflower qorma). Highly recommend for the food. Just not for the sessy.

Afghan Kabob is pretty good but after eating at Astor and Ravi I can only give it 3 stars. The portions seem to be hit or miss. The first time I went I got a mound of food that easily became 2 meals! Sadly the next time the server got all stingy and my gf was so disappointed cuz I had talked about how much food they give.  The food was also less flavorful but still good.Overall though I would eat there again. Just wish they were more consistent with flavor and portions.

Great place. I live nearby and will definitely be back. Had the chicken kabob special and I highly recommend it. Came with two skewers of dark meat chicken that were tasty and very well-seasoned. Also, was cooked perfectly. The meal also included Afgan bread, which was fresh, and humus that was flavorful, but not overly garlicky. The rice was rice and the spinach was solid. Also, the service was outstanding. The cash register lady was very nice and explained the different options to me and then explained in detail what all the available sides were as I picked out what I wanted.

I'm so disappointed with this place, I feel like giving it just 1 star (lowest rating), but the fact is that the food itself was not horrible. But so many things about it were just utterly disappointing.First - The dishes do not come with rice. The kabobs come with bread (and it's pretty lousy bread at that), but vegetable plates don't even come with bread. To be clear: each kabob comes with two "sides", and you can opt for rice as one of them. I'm sorry - this is simply not competitive with the other kabob joints in the area. For the same price (more or less), I could eat like a maharaja at Kabob Palace, with bread, rice, and two sides - on EVERY dish - and it would all be excellent quality. Second - "Sam's" ground chicken kabob. I've never had ground chicken that was ground completely into paste. The texture was completely disgusting. I actually thought I was eating chicken LIVER, which I really don't like. Even the flavor was liver-like. I thought several times that maybe it was actually chickpea paste (since I figured liver was unlikely) and maybe the guy who took my order got it wrong. But double-checking their menu, it's obvious it could only have been the ground chicken. Utterly disgusting, texture-wise. Flavor wise, it was just meh.Third - and this is admittedly minor - their kadu (pumpkin) was overly sweet. I think they cooked it with prunes. LOTS of prunes. Their chickpea side dish was also distinctly inferior to just about any other place in the area. The eggplant dish was not bad, but had too much "other than eggplants" (onions, etc.) in it for my taste. As far as I could tell, there are no actual Afghans involved in the operation. I don't want to draw any unwarranted conclusions, but it may perhaps have something to do with the issues I describe above.

For lunch in Court House, this is a really good deal and really, really tasty.  I frequently get the open faced Gyro, but have had the regular Gyro and the chicken kabob, and it's all REALLY flavorful and really good. This is a very "lunchy" place, but it's FAR better than any other lunch place in the area.  Definitely recommend it.  So very good.

The cash register lady was very nice and explained the different options to me and then explained in detail what all the available sides were as I picked out what I wanted.Afghan Kabob is pretty good but after eating at Astor and Ravi I can only give it 3 stars.
