I love this place!  It is my favorite Middle Eastern market in the area!  The falafel is WONDERFUL!!  My favorite, however, has got to be the various types of baklava... pistachio, cashew, almond....MMMMMMMM!!

I have been patronizing this place for 21 years. They have excellent Mediterranean foods, (both take out and eat in)  superb pastries, and a really outstanding collection of European and Mediterranean tobacco (!), candies, cookies, jams, crackers, and cakes.  Oddly enough, they have a selection of very fine China tea cups for sale as well. Weekends, you will see State Department and Peace Corps types coming in to take care of thier exotic foods needs.  This place is definitely worth checking out!

This is a wonderful bakery and deli with a great selection of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern groceries.  I highly recommend any of the hot foods that they prepare there.  Their gyros, hummus, pitas, and baklava are the best! They have about 5 tables set up where you can eat the food, but they are usually taken.  The store area also has an amazing selection of olive oils and balsamic vinegars to choose from.

Although from the outside this place looks quite average, a taste of things on the inside reveals that its amazing all around.  My personal favorite is the walnut baklava- best I've ever had in the States.  As well the hummous , cheese selection, and lunch counter are wonderful.  The downside at times is the service-- things can be pretty unorganized -- but in the end its always worth it.

A cozy little grocery with great, cheap takeout sandwiches for lunch.  You can dine really well here for under 6 bucks.   Atmosphere is a little cafeteria like, so I would avoid eating in unless it's super casual. The only thing I haven't enjoyed here was the dolmas -- they were hard and the rice was undercooked.

Love this place! It's in a strip mall, and the first time I wandered in, I left 'cause I thought it was a little sketchy. But I gave it another try and have been going there ever since. Best selection of olive oils and teas I've ever seen. Wonderful spanikopita, baklava, hummus, and pita to buy and take home. But the best part is the eat-in deli-wonderful gyros, schwarma, falafel, etc-all at good prices, and in my 'hood with parking to boot! Yes!

I happened to reach here when I couldn't find parking in D.C (don't ask me how)- what a find! It's located in a run of the mill strip mall, but the stuff inside is anything but that. Apart from the regular stuff (falafels, babaghanough etc) they have these awesome lebanese pies. The spinach with feta cheese one was heavenly. Very authentic stuff! The grocery store was nice too- cheeses, olives, pita et all. Its quite a trek from my place, but I'll be there again.

Went in today to purchase some groceries as well as eat in at the bakery.  My girlfriend and I ordered 1 chicken schwarma, keefta, and a beef gyro.  We ordered 3 dishes because we knew that the portions were small.  My girlfriend is a frequent spender here.  But this time she didn't enjoy the beef gyro.  It had a pelicular smell to it that was really a turnoff.  She took it back only to get into am argument with the older lady behind the cash register.  She said to my girlfriend, "there is nothing wrong with our food and that is not my problem". She gave her more and more of an attitude not wanting to return her money back.   We have both worked in the restaurant business for over a decade and for this lady to refuse to give money back and give an attitude to someone who comes often is ridiculous... This is outrageous!  This lady should have said oh I am sorry you didn't enjoy it.  Let me get you something else!  Not a too bad!  Not my problem attitude.  Do Not eat here!  Not clean!I tried to dump my trash were it belongs but doesn't look like it has been emptied out for days!  I will never be back!

excellent take out or eat in in my 'hood, what could be more bliss?   The order may be slow at times, but that's because they are usually crowded and make your food, they don't reheat it.   I love the Shish Kabob(beef), Shish Tawook(chicken) and Hummos sandwiches. All come with a side of Hummos and Pita Chips(too bad not regular pita, oh well)It's also a Bakery so you can buy warm FRESH white or whole Pita. The rest of the store is basicaly a tour of the world, from Canolli's to 500 Hot Sauces, Halva(try it, it's awesome sesame sweets), to Baklava, Green Tea to Hearts of Palm(Ahhh, memories of Costa Rica) and Artichoke hearts.  Lots of other kitchen items to browse over while you wait for your order..even some Hookas for purchase. You smoke it, you buy it.

Yumyumyumyumyum.  This bakery has AMAZING hummous.  I grew up eating the stuff homemade (my dad is Syrian) and this is as close to homemade as it gets.  The prepared food section rocks -- great baba gannoush, stuffed grape leaves, fethayer, and shawarma.  The bread is made fresh daily, and is soft and delicious.  The sweets selection is excellent.  I highly recommend the chocolate walnut baklava.  The grocery section of the bakery has an unbelievable selection of olive oil and other international foods (Milo, anyone?).  Go here now, you won't regret it!

This place is amazing!  While I was having the oil changed at the Nissan dealer down the street, I wandered in here to check things out.  What a wonderful find! This store had all kinds of tasty treats - a deli section with made to order sandwiches, a bakery with fresh breads and delectable looking sweets, rows of olive oils and other Mediterranean grocery items.  I spent a lot of time in here wandering through the aisles and trying to figure out how I wasn't going to spend a fortune in here on Pide bread and feta cheese (as well as some really nice looking olive oils and olives).  I cannot wait to come back here and buy gifts for friends! For a little treat, I got myself some of the baklava.  It was so sweet and flaky and yummy.  I should have gotten more because I could have eaten more.I can't wait to come back here with a shopping list and try some more of the baked goods.  And the trip back here will occur very soon.

I have been going to the Med. Bakery for over 20 years now! I do a lot of grocery shopping here for spices, cheeses , amazing olives, and of course there freshly baked pita bread! They have great cakes too. The fruit tart cake is one of my favs. They also have an area for a quick and affordable lunch/ dinner / snack in the back. Chicken Sharwama is one of my favs there and the Chicken Gyros. If your a vegetarian try the feta with cucumbers and tomatoes. Perfect little pick me up. Oh I don't think I mentioned the price for the quick sandwiches! There all about $10 or less. You cant beat that! Def a great place! I will continue to always shop here !

Man, this place is so sunken into a shopping center I NEVER remember about it, but I love it!  Some of the stuff on their shelves looks like it's been there longer than I am old, but they have a gyro pizza that is soo good.  It's expensive, around $7 for a personal gyro pizza but it's made on a pitta with gyro meat and cheese and tomatoes (no sauce).  I thought it was so good I've frozen it and brought it back to NY for my brother before.

I've been going there since I was a kid.  You won't find any better hummus or pita bread in the area.  All my friends from high school would rave about the hummus we had; and it was always from here.  Other items can be a bit pricey though.

The Mediterranean Bakery is an awesome place to shop AND eat, and the prices are really reasonable.  In the deli case, you can select from any number of housemade goodies: pick up their dolmades (I like the vegetarian ones because they're plumper and juicier, but my BF loves the ground beef ones just warmed through) and baba ganoush.  I actually am not a huge fan of their hummus -- too tart and lemony, and a bit too runny for me -- but others I know adore it.  They make great homemade pita chips -- plain and spiced -- and have a wide selection of flat breads, olive oils, hot sauces, and other ethnic foods.  I buy all my spices here, because they have a huge selection at prices that beat any grocery store.  At the back of the store is an unassuming little kitchen that serves great, authentic Mediterranean food for CHEAP.  My boyfriend and I love to split a couple of their pita pizzas with unusual and exotic toppings -- turmeric, sesame, tahini, etc -- and their fettoush salad.  Service can be slow, and the the dining area is cramped and very basic (think food court, but smaller), but the food, prices and selection are worth a visit!

This is a great place to stock up on middle eastern foods.  The quality and selection are very good, plus you don't get completely scammed like you might at Safeway for a small vial of cumin.  Top products imho:1) Feta cheese selection (Bulgarian, domestic, greek)2) Pita bread3) Olive selection4) cream filled pastries

Recommended for affordably exploring new and exotic foods right in the neighborhood!I have always enjoyed their fragrant meat pies and tangy spinach and cheese pies. They now have an Indian-style Samosa to reheat as well.  They also have some homemade prepared dips like a smooth and tasty hummus and a tabouli that are quite good.Throw in a few baked goods like hamentashen, eclairs or baklava and you are good to go!

I would love nothing more than to have a grocery store warrant the 5 star "Woohoo! As good as it gets!", but when I shop, I always have to stop at roughly 5 different places in a single run, this place being one of them. They've got a great selection of Mediterranean hard-to-finds. Great selection of yogurts n' cheeses right across from their great and phenomenally low priced spices. Tons of hot sauces to choose from (Attention Neal E.)! Everything from a mild cayenne to a habenero suppository, they got it. If you want good pita, pita chips, olives, tea, oils, falafel, dolmades, feta, curry, chutney, nuts, seeds, pastries, cookware, hell - even if you need a hookah, give them a visit. They've even got a little dining area where you can indulge in their little cafe's specialties. As tiny as this place is, they sure do have an eclectic selection of Mediterranean goods. They are one of our unique little gems, we should feel fortunate to have them.

The gyro pizza is out of this world. I wish they would use feta, but hey.. the meat tears apart with the pizza. At first glance, this place is rather confusing, but I got a big bag of fresh pita chips, hummus, some pastries, and the pizza for a pretty good deal especially with authenticity and quality. Will definitely come back

Great value lunch option, or even just for a snack of Turkish coffee and a pastry while you get groceries.  Mediterranean is accurate...they have Syrian cheeses, Spanish olive oil, Greek souvlaki, Turkish desserts, Lebanese syrups and Italian coffee.  They also have products that really stretch the "Mediterranean" identifier, like sugar from Mauritius and spices from India.  But whatever.  The food is authentic and great and cheap.  The olive oil selection is particularly impressive and no more expensive than Giant for the basic stuff.

tucked in an unassuming strip mall, this is a great deal for lunch - walk through the grocery aisles to get to the counter in the back and order. the grocery selection is wide ranging, and doesn't stick to Mediterranean.  There are also German chocolates and British tea. I had a falafel sandwich and it was cripsy, and not overstuffed or oversized, just the right proportion of pita bread to falafel. If you are looking for Jallab syrup or lavash, this is a good stop.

Based on the reviews and based on the fact that I could finally go to a lunch of MY choosing since I was alone, I went to this lovely strip mall and finally tried this place. I got the shwarma sandwich. It comes with pita chips and hummus, all for the low price of $5.27. It was fast, the beef had lots of great flavor and the hummus was yum. The employee was VERY nice and helpful, so it was an all-around good experience. I loved the look of the bakery section. It took everything out of me NOT to buy something. I can't eat sweets right now (stupid diet), but I know the hubs would have a field day. I plan to bring him this weekend. I can't believe I never walked inside this place even when I lived in Alexandria and went to the Home Depot there. HAHAAH. I'll be back :)

Tried the chicken shwarma and gyro.  Both came with pita chips and some hummus for a little over $5.  Flavorful shwarma and gyro.  Pita chips with hummus was nice too.  For the price and taste, I give this place 5 stars.  I really like these casual places with great flavor and prices.

It's been a few months since I've been to this area, but everytime, without fail, I stop to the Mediterranean Bakery. Not only they have a great pastry shop, but the hot food is awesome. I have tried the Shish Tak-Wuk (sp?) It compares to the best one I had in Montreal...go figure.. all hot items have a small side of hummus with toasted pita bread... the bread is very crunchy. I wonder if you can get the pita not toasted. I have had the chicken swarma too...yummmTry the baklava...assorted meat pastries ... great place!  Check out the olive oil..cold cuts, cheeses...etc...

Oh I was so excited to find this place, and right in my neighborhood! First of all, great grocery section. There is so much fun stuff to explore and try. If you've ever lived overseas you will probably run into some old favorites! I got a quick lunch there, which is one of the best deals I've had in a long time. You get a nice sized chicken shwarma pita sandwich with a side of hummus and pita chips for $5!!! You can also get turkish coffee, yum. They have a great prepared food section where you can pick up your favs- hummus, grapeleaves, etc. All very cheap. Especially compared to what hummus costs in the regular grocery stores. We also decided to sample a few treats from the bakery. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of Middle Eastern sweets but these were tasty and high quality. I will definitly be stopping here on a regular basis. I highly recommend it!

A hidden gem within a strip mall in the west end area and one of my favorite places. I make weekly trips to stock up on hummus, garlic pita chips and pita bread--plus an occasional lunch.  I can also kill some serious time in the spice and olive oil aisles---a very extensive/great selection.
