Marrakesh Café is the only hookah bar I know of in the triangle area. For $2 a person you can smoke flavored tobacco from these giant hookahs. While it's definitely not something I would do every night, it can be a relaxing way to spend an evening (or cap one off). The place is small and often frequented on weekend nights by high schoolers who want to be cool and be near a college campus, but aren't old enough to be in any of the bars around.

I like to come to the Marrakesh on certain rainy nights when it just seems like the whole world has slowed down. There are little low tables with sizeable hookahs and overstuffed cushions to sit on, bright red walls, and traditional Moroccan tile work hangings. I've never been to Morocco, but it's easy for me to imagine that a hookah bar in Morocco would feel the same. Well, except for the college kids sitting at the next table over, that is. I think the beauty of Marrakesh is that you don't have to spend a ton of money to kill some time. $8 gets you about a half hour's worth of smoking for you and another person, and its very soothing to sit and enjoy the mellow, flavored smoke. You don't have to deal with the kind of crowds you find in the bars, or the hassle of packed dance floors. You can actually hear your friends saying things, and hold a conversation. Now granted, I could do all that in a coffee shop, but it's nice to have a break from the usual. Speaking of coffee, Marrakesh does sell coffee and teas, both iced and hot, as well as pastries and sandwiches to nibble on. Some of the best baklava this side of Neomonde can be found in this little building, but that's not the real reason for coming. Neither is the free wi-fi. The real reason is to take some time off and unwind with some friends while enjoying the calming sensation of a hookah.
