Al Amir Reviews

I love the atmosphere! It is truely authentic. The food is authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. It is a perfect place for a business meeting or a personal date. I have been there for both and I think I can speak for everyone who joined me, the place is great. Everyone is friendly and again, the food is great.

After living in San Francisco for 13 years, and then moving to SC, I was desperately looking for a good Middle Eastern place. I really like this place. Because I'm pregnant, I opted for their veggie kaboobs, and wow, I was impressed. The taste these veggies have is incredible. I also LOVE their dolmas. I enjoyed their hummus and pitas very much, as well as the falafels. The entrees come with a salad of your choice and rice, which was also really good. The iced tea is good. The place smells amazing, but the atmosphere is a little lacking in coziness. However, that doesn't take away from how good the food is.

I went to the one on St. Andrews Rd, but I have to say I love it. They're waiter service is a bit slow, and could improve on that standpoint, but honestly, they're food is worth the wait.I love the humus and pita bread, talk about amazing. So if you want healthy food of this type, I'd highly recommend it. It's definitely fresh.

This place got me started on my middle eastern food obsession.. Probably one of the few places to go in Columbia for middle eastern food... but I've always had great experiences.. great decor, appropriate atmosphere and good service.

NOTE: Devine St. location is now closed! I'm not sure about the St. Andrews Rd. location. The food here was really good though. Their hummus had an excellent flavor. I can't believe they closed and I can only imagine it was b/c the place was a bit run down and in need of some TLC...so maybe it didn't attract many customers. If they would have remodeled a little bit and put on some good Arabic music, served up some posh drinks, and drug out all the hookahs they had collecting dust in the back, this place could have been a really hip place. I would suggest giving the St. Andrews Rd location a try b/c the food on Devine St. WAS really good. And P.S. the new (also middle eastern) restaurant in its place sucks really bad!

As I grew up eating Persian food, I'm really picky about my Middle Eastern food that I eat. I really enjoyed the food here and would definitely go back!

We were in the mood for a brick oven pizza, but the wait at Za's next door was 45 minutes; so we tried Al-Amir. Outdoor seating is available, as well as indoor seating with large boothsThe smell near the kitchen is fantastic; however the dining room smelled a bit musty, and the atmosphere was not very romantic. The booths are so large that you feel far away from your date when sitting on opposite ends. I tried their Lebanese Brick Oven Pizza; which was very good, but I wish I would have tried somethng new. Our waitress was very attentive and quick; I would recommend this place to someone looking for a new and different experience.
