Darn it, I was hoping to be the first to review this place! I've only eaten Persian food once, so I didn't know what to expect. I was told this is the best place for it anywhere, so I'll have to refer you to those who are Persian food fans.   It's a little far away in an area I would never go to - it's near an adult movie store and something called the "Sugar Shack". I'll probably only come here again if I'm meeting up with friends. I didn't like the eggplant appetizer because it was too crunchy and stringy.  But the eggplant puree (not sure of the actual name of it) I had for a side dish made up for it. My main course, chicken kabob, was also excellent.  But if I do go again, I'm ordering the beef kabob. I tried my friend's and it was to die for. Very juicy / tasty  beef!  Probably the best kabob I've ever had. Oh, and I puffed on a hookah for the first time. Who knew they come in flavors?  So it made for a good all-around experience.

Roswell Road has a handful of Persian restaurant and shops catering to the Persian community, but Rumi's kitchen is the best of the lot. Reasonably priced dishes like ground beef kebabs and Cornish hens are always satisfying, and I dare you to try and not fill up their house-made crackling flat bread served with cubes of tangy feta cheese, walnuts, and herbs.

Wow, a real Persian restaurant in Sandy Springs.  It took me a minute to peruse the menu, but sort of figured it out.  The flavors are bold and bright with lots of spices.  I didn't love everything, but it was fun to experiment.  The beef dish, sort of a stew which name escapes me was delish.  The hookah is not for me, but has its fans.  I will stick to the wine.

My wife and I enjoyed an evening out at Rumi's.  The appetizer was good, but not great.  We had the Dolmeh (I think) which was ground beef wrapped in grape leaves.  It was flavorful, but I don't think our American palettes cared for it too much.I loved the wine list.  They had a great variety of wines from all different regions.  When I had a question about which wine to choose, the waitress allowed a tasting of each before I made my decision.  After having made my decision, I was a little disappointed that the waitress poured my glass before my wife's.  I know it's is probably not that big of a deal, but if I am dining at a nice restaurant, I expect the wait staff to know how to properly serve a wine.On to the main course.  My wife and I both decided on the Barg Khabob.  This was a grilled steak khabob served on a bed of saffron basmati rice.  The meat was cooked and flavored perfectly and the rice was heavenly.  This was the reason I love persian food so much.  The entree made the meal. The atmosphere was nice and cozy.  I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

What can I say... amazing. I enjoy exploring all types of food and flavors but this....this place is orgasmic! The food is so good you will be thinking "this sh! should be illegal!"  If I had to recommend a dish I would say you can't go wrong with any item on the menu. My favorites are Kashk-e bademjan (Persian-Style Mashed Eggplant) and the Ghormeh Sabzi (Green Herb Stew with Lamb meat). The atmosphere is eccentric , romantic, and yet feels like home.... make sure you read the menu as they have a beautiful testimonial about the poet himself  "Rumi".

Born in Tehran, Iran...I have to say that Rumi's takes me right back there. This is by far the best Kabobs in Atlanta. The owners have moved all over the place at different restaurants (all of course on Roswell Rd!). They cook the kabobs with the old persian spices herbs and soaked in yogurt so they are tender! The hookahs bring back memories of sitting around a table with old folks telling old folks stories and smoking some good smelling hookah. The sugar cubes for the hot tea (after dinner drink) have been soaked in saffron and taste absolutley delicious. To get a real taste of kabobs, order the Soltani which has both Koobideh (ground meat) and barg (sliced sirloin) with a side of delicious persian rice and grilled tomato). Yum yum yum!!!

This place is amazing... Paige C. invited me last tuesday and I still haven't gotten the sents and flavours out of my head. This is a hot date spot too, not too pricy, valet, and exotic. Check it out.

It cracks me up that both the owners and their customers refer to the restaurant and cuisine as Persian. Let's get something straight. This is an IRANIAN restaurant. I guess calling it Persian, like a Persian rug, makes ignorant Americans feel better about spending their money at Rumi's. Persia became Iran nearly 75 years ago.The Iranian food is excellent; best in Atlanta.

Ate at this place last week, the meat was very flavorful, tasting mine, and my friends kabobs found it was hard to go wrong. The appetizers were a little strange, the eggplant one with fried rice (like hard, rice crispy like fried rice, not the Chinese restaurant version) was bizarre. That brings up a larger point about places like this, I love trying out new, exotic food but places like this, and others should give you a glossary of what is on the menu. One of the beef entrees comes with something that turned out to be garlic yogurt. (trust me it's better than it sounds).  However, plenty of times I felt like I had to play 20 questions with the waitstaff about what was on there.  That is not a complaint against this restaurant, this was just the latest one where I've had that experience. If restaurants take the time to serve unique and "native" dishes go ahead and explain them on the menu.  The regulars will gloss over them and never really notice, but it would be tremendous help for newbies.

I took a client to lunch at Rumi's Kitchen on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs last week. It was pretty nice. The valet happily took my car in the rain and ushered me into a cozy little restaurant. I ordered hot tea, and though I was surprised that a Persian restaurant would only have earl grey to offer, I was delighted with the saffron sugar cubes that came with it.The best part of the meal was the rather large amuse bouche: a plate of fresh sprigs of tarragon and basil, olives, walnuts, radish and cheese. Everything was almost cartoonish in flavor in this raw state. Bright! Bright! Bright! the fresh herbs were, especially in contrast to my sleepy tea and the fall rain.An appetizer of Dolmeh - freshly mixed ground beef, rice, and mild herbs hand wrapped in grape vine leaves and simmered in a zesty sweet and sour pomegranate sauce, was very rich and succulent. Different in texture, temperature and flavor from the mostly greek dolmeh I have eaten. My client had the Bodenjoon - pan fried eggplant slow cooked on a special tomato based veal stew, served with a side of saffron Basmati rice and seemed to enjoy it. I had slow cooked lamb shank served with saffron Basmati rice mixed with dill weed and fava beans which was very good, but a little mild in seasoning for me, and I prefer my fava beans more alive then dead...they were a little gray and mushy for me. I really liked the rice, it had never occurred to me to mix dill with basmati. The leftovers were of grand proportion, I had 1.5 shanks to take home to a happy boy. The meal, like Indian food, tasted even better the next day. I wonder how they can afford to be so generous in portion and amuse bouche at their prices which were surprisingly low. The service was excellent, if a tad bit overeager, but mostly the staff seemed like they were perhaps family members, or at least very much invested in their business.I enjoyed myself. And obviously so do others. While I waited for the valet to bring me my explorer whose doors don't open and side mirror is glued on, a series of Mercedes parked in front shone harshly in my eye...I think Rumi's will do just fine here.

I really love this place.  Always call ahead for a reservation... they can get busy.I love Rumi's Dip (hummus) and the relish plate they give you.  And the kabob's are great.  My favorites are the cornish hen (skinless, tangy) and the shrimp (with a slightly sweet creamy sauce).  Great for a birthday or other event.  Perfect casual-chic atmosphere.

By far one of the best Persian restaurants I have been to in Atlanta.  For appetizer we had the Tehdeeg (which is roasted eggplants in a tomato based stew over crunchy basmati rice).  It was a little difficult eating this appetizer because the rice was very crunchy, but it has a pretty good taste to it.  I liked the ambiance of the restaurant as well.  We were seated outside in the heated patio which was nice and cozy.  For the main course I had the Lamb Kabobs, which were tasty, but not the best lamb kabobs I have had.  However, one of my friends got the sirloin kabob and that was really tasty and so was the chicken kabob.  I really enjoyed the tangy taste of the chicken kabob.  They also offer Hooka, which some of my friends enjoyed.  Overall it was a good experience, and there are a lot of choices.  I absolutely loved the flat bread with their feta cheese and olives.  It was delish!

I love Rumi's. I have never been disappointed here.  I would eat here any time, any day of the week - just ask me and I'm there! The Kashk Badenjoon is the best in the city and I love their Tahdeeg. Oh yeah, and their bread is homemade, just like it should be.Their Joojeh Kabob is so tender and buttery and moist. Ok, now I'm drooling just thinking about it. Only downside is:  You must go home and take a nap afterwards due to the food coma. : )

There are a few good Persian restaurants in Atlanta and this is definitely one of them.  There parking is valet, so it's easy.  The ambiance is excellent - the bar is very comfortable, the staff very friendly, and the tables very comfortable.  I sat outside on the patio - which was great.  I would recommend a reservation.  Once you sit down, the waiter brings over water and an arrangement of radishes, mint, cheese, olives, and a basket of warmly toasted bread. The wine list has plenty of selections - the temparanillos and granaches were good.  I also had the Kashk Badenjoon or eggplant appetizer, which blew me away.  The eggplant is sauteed with onion and Persian cream, and topped with a touch of mint and thinly sliced crispy caramelized onions.  My cousin had the lamb shank.  Now, I don't eat meat, but I almost wanted to dive into this dish - it looked and smelled wonderful.  I had the vegetarian entree, which was a veggie kabob.   I couldn't decide on which type of rice to get, so the very nice waiter offered to set me up with both  the sweet saffron Basmati rice mixed with almonds and a special orange zest sauce and the saffron Basmati rice - amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant, if you venture OTP.

The best tasting Persian food that you can find! Whether for lunch or dinner, their food never disappoints. My personal favorite is the lamb kabob with adas polo. And their barg kabob is unbelievable. If you go at the right time when they have tahdigh available, make sure you ask for it!

I went on a date with my husband recently to Rumi's Kitchen.  I remember when this restaurant was the Crescent Begneits joint.  I remember the big vat of oil used to fry the begneits.  All of that has been erased and replaced with a stylish, classy and cozy little restaurant that serves, by far, the best Persian food I've had!The little pre-appetizer plate and fresh bread was enjoyable.  I have never eaten fresh tarragon before so I was surprised at its flavor. For appetizers we had the Kashk Badenjoon and Rumi's Wings.  Can you believe that the Tahdeeg was sold out?  The Kashk Badenjoon was absolutely delicious.  Fantastic.  Warm, rich and flavorful.  The wings were authentically grilled and flavored with a unique hot sauce.  Not hot but definitely not boring.  Very tasty and meaty.  The fresh bread was neverending. My husband had the Soltani Kebob.  Both types of meat were very, very good.  Very easy to chew and the flavors were amazing.   The plain rice decorated with saffron rice was perfect.  Lots of flavor and buttery. I had the Lamb Kabob.  I ordered my meat done medium.  This required more chewing than I bargained for that night.  Still, it was very tasty and not at all 'game-y' .  The rice with raisins and lentils decorated with saffron rice was killer.  Fantastic rice that could pass for a meal by itself.  By the way, I took half my plate home and the lamb was excellent as leftovers! For dessert, we shared a baklava cheesecake which was sweet and creamy.  Very nice.Washed it all down with the tea and saffron infused sugar cubes.  It brought a nice finish to our feast. Note 1: The restaurant was full.  The ambiance with dimmed lighting along with the decor created a very relaxing environment.   The main room is very cozy and warm.  The tented area seemed very crowded.  There are a lot of 2 person tables placed closely together in both rooms.  Keep this in mind if you value privacy of space.Note 2: The menu mentions 'saffron rice' served with the meals.  What we saw and got was the deliciously prepared plain rice and lentil/raisin rice, respectively, with a narrow row of saffron rice on top as an accent. We look forward to going back!

AMAZING PERSIAN FOOD!This is by far my favorite restaurant in the Atlanta area!  I go here all the time- The staff is great, the food is consistently awesome, and the ambiance is nice. The lamb kabobs and steak kabobs are wonderful. Cooked to perfection, never overdone.  Every dip on the starter menu is amazing, as well as the fresh bread.  They have a nice wine list as well.

I had driven by Rumi's (named after famous, old school Persian poet) and was always curious as to what sort of ambiance was contained within because of all the fancy cars parked outside. I finally went after work with five other people and we ordered a feast fit for a rabble of starving mobs! I saw Persians dining in which raised the restaurant's "authentic ethnic experience", if you put any stock into that. My first time eating Persian food and it was awesome! We ordered lamb, beef, chicken, seafood, humus stuff, four different kinds of rice, all kinds of legumes... Kabobs, grilled meats, cooked and sauteed in delicious spices... Since we had such a large party, the server made the excellent executive decision to combine our platters. One entree serving size is more than enough for any starving denizen, imagine six entrees combined, more powerful than the forces of Voltron! Haha.I can't wait to go again :D

Oh Rumi's Kitchen! How I love thee...I'm branching out. I'll get in the car and drive...a little bit further than I normally would. This adventure took us to Roswell. We've been craving Persian food for 2 weeks now and we made a commitment last night to make the trek. Sheila at Rumi's Kitchen made it well worth it. After getting in a cozy corner table, we ordered several appetizers. They all went so well together. Especially with their wonderful bread!Rumi's also brings out a plate with mint, radishes, cheese, another herb (I think it might have been Tarragon). We devoured:1. Shirazi Salad- cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, parsley, lemon juiceAll diced to cubed perfection. Refreshing! 2.Rumi's Dip- pureed chickpeas, tahini, garlic, sesame, and olive oilSuper light and creamy. Like buttah baby!3. Mast Mousir- yogurt, garlic, spices...I LOVE this on basmati rice. My favorite.4. Rumi's Salad- there was a mix up and we did not order this but Sheila said she hoped we would enjoy it anyway! Sweet.I really hoped they would have some "Tahdeeg" left since that is a popular item that they don't make a lot of.  Tahdeeg is extra crispy basmati rice with your choice of stew on top of it. I chose eggplant. I'm so glad I did. It was so, so good! The combination of flavors and crunchiness is perfecto!  I love mixing the yogurt with it. The very handsome dinner companion had the Soltani- two meats- Barg (tenderloin) and Koobideh (ground beef kabob) with basmati rice. I had a few bites and it was fantastic. We also ordered a Pinot Noir, MacMurray Creek that went really well with dinner. The portions are enormous.Sheila, our server, was charming, friendly, and helpful. She was extremely patient  as it took us 20 minutes to choose a wine. We also switched tables because it was a tad bit chilly on the patio.Sheila was professional throughout the whole experience.  We love Sheila! Sheila for Secretary of State! Sheila 2012

I came here again for a birthday dinner.  As an app we ordered the sampler.  It was a sample of about 6 different dips that you eat with the yummy flat bread.  My favorite was the humus.  We also ordered the wings, which were bland.  We did not like them.As for the entree, I ordered the chicken barg. 4 out of 5 in our party ordered it.  The other person in our party ordered the barg kabob.  We all enjoyed our meal.  We also ordered a bottle of red.  I can't remember the name of it, but I thought it was okay. The service and food was good.  This place is always consistent. This place is always consistently good!  The bread they serve in the beginning is mmm mmm good! I…

I went to Rumi's Kitchen this evening. I have never had Persian food before. It was so good. I recommend this place to everyone. We started off with a bottle of red wine and for an appetizer shared a plate of Dolmeh, which is stuffed grape leaves. They do serve a basket of fresh bread and they serve that with a plate of butter, walnuts, olives, feta, radishes, tarragon, and mint. Then I had the Chicken Barg for my dinner. The person I was with had the rack of Lamb. We were stuff from our meals so we did not have dessert. Our waitress was Persian so she recommended our wine since neither of us knew much about wines. She also recommended my meal the chicken barg. I will definitely make another trip back to Rumi's Kitchen at some point.

First impressions are everything, and unfortunately Rumi's has not mastered the art. My friend called that afternoon to reserve a table and was put on hold and then hung up on twice, so we figured we would just take our chances. When we arrived, we had to park with the valet, who apparently didn't notice that there were two people in the car and only opened the driver side door and made no move to open the passenger door and likewise at the end of the evening only held open the driver door although I waited a minute to see if he would open my door, he again completely ignored me. When we walked in we were asked if we had a reservation and when we said no that apparently through them for a loop despite several empty tables. So it took two of them walking back and forth several times to figure out where to put us, meanwhile several other parties came in so it was completely packed in the entry way as we stood awkwardly wondering if we were supposed to follow the host or not. We were finally lead to a table in the middle of the door way out to the enclosed/heated patio area so that there was a constant flow of restaurant staff and diners jostling my chair. Our server was a bright spot in the evening, right there whenever we needed her, completely on top of keeping drinks refilled, all without hovering. I enjoyed the little plate of butter, radishes, olives, walnuts, feta, mint and tarragon with the fresh hot bread. I thought the Rumi's dip was some of the best hummus I've had, but the dolmeh were overly sweet and the filling was dry like eating a mouthful of sawdust. My friend had beef kabobs, which she liked, and I had the lamb shank, which came as two in a half bowl shaped dish which made it pretty difficult to eat. So I took one and put it on my rice platter, which had fava beans in it as garnish. The lamb was very tender, but the only flavor was salty, not the exotic Persian spices I expected, and I think it would have been improved by being served with the raisin and lentil rice that the other two lamb dishes were served with as it was just salt on top of salt and a sweet counterpoint would have made it more bearable. We declined the offer of dessert and had the previously described lackluster experience with the valet. As we were pulling out I said, next time let's try Persepolis.

Rumi's is so delicious! Everything I've tried here has been super delicious especially the lamb! Do you remember when gas prices skyrocketed in the city and no body could get gas?!? I drove from West Cobb to Rumi's and back on E. It doesn't get much better than this!

I always get a kick out of yelpers that take away stars for valet service. Whether it be for opening doors, parking the car to close, or because there is valet service at all. Ha ha! Most people don't realize that the restaurant owners pay for this service, but they cannot actually police them a 100% of the time too. Half the places that use valet have to because of the size of their lot. If one or two cars park out of place then the rest of their available parking is screwed for the night. I had to get that off my chest and everyone should not take away stars for the valet. The lot is very small at Rumi's, thus they use valet to park your car 15ft away. On to the experience. Rumi's is an excellent choice for a nice semi-casual evening out. The prices to quality to plate portion equation is a steal. All the food is spiced right , simply prepared, and just plain good. I came to Rumi's a few days after eating a very high priced birthday dinner at Aria(a top rated ATL resto)-now I had the house specialty rack of lamb at the touted Aria and I got to sample my girlfriends rack of lamb at Rumi's. Hands down winner =Rumi's. Not only was the lamb better tasting but three times the size for under half the price. Leaves me wondering how these guys are making money and how Aria is always so packed.(not that it is bad just pricey for 80's style dining.) Persian food is good and this is Atlanta's best option. I hear the lunch sandwiches are killer but I have only been to a handful of very pleasing dinners. The owner is cool and enjoys his hookah when the resto is not full. Try everything and go hungry.

This place is perfect. The overall impression was that I was eating at a slightly more expensive place, serving finer food than what I was paying for. The textures and flavors were on another plane compared to other foods that I've eaten that were labeled 'Persian' For example - this is the only place in Atlanta where you can get real, made-from-scratch Persian-style Dolmeh. Anywhere else, and it's fresh outta the can.Everything on the sampler plate is amazing. Oh yeah - I just remembered about the rice. These guys put an effort into the rice here - it's excellent! You can taste it! Seriously, I hate the way rice in general (any cuisine) is so carelessly prepared and served at most restaurants. It's insulting because it makes it obvious that - to the owners - it's just hydrated carbs shoveled onto the plate to keep your farm-raised fish warm longer. At Rumi's, the rice is PERFECT. Every grain is perfect, fragrant, al dente rice. When the food and overall experience is already kicking ass, and then the kitchen and absolutely nails something like making nice rice - that's when you know you've found a great place to eat.I agree with Chloe's mom - we need to have the following buttons added to review votes:uninformed, arrogant, pretentious, useless, champagne taste/beer money, redneck, etc.

This is the best Persian restaurant in Atlanta hands down. The best two entrees are the Chicken Barg The Kabob Soltani. I usually go back and forth between the two. If I were to pick one, I would defininatly pick the Chicken Barg (it is not on the lunch menu but you can still order it)As far as appetizers go, they are all great but I usually order the Mast Moosir at the least (this is also not on the lunch menu but you can still order it)

Wow! Visiting this place was a treat!I just got back from a small birthday dinner here, and I must say... I am impressed! All of the food was delicious! The pita bread was the perfect mix of soft, yet flaky (not doughy), and the hummus was the best I've ever come across! The good thing about going in a large group is the ability to sample off of each others plates. I ordered the lamb shank (which is dark meat, like a leg... nobody at our table knew this, I decided to be brave... so if anyone else out there is as sheltered as we are, I'll go ahead and tell you what shank is!) . It was absolutely delicious, fall off the bone tender and YUM! The marinade has a slight citrus flavor. It is served over rice seasoned with dill and mixed with fava beans. All delicious!I also tried (and excuse me for not knowing the Persian names) my boyfriend's charbroiled beef sirloin kabob over bread with yogurt dip. I bet the real name is is only 5 characters long, but hey... we already had a few glasses of wine before I even picked the menu up, so I REALLY can't remember names! ANYways, this was also fantastic! The perfect charbroil taste, without the nasty burned aftertaste. I also ate the largest shrimp I've ever seen. It actually tasted more like lobster... mmmmmOne of the reasons I was impressed is the friendliness of the staff and the manager's sincere eagerness to make sure we enjoy our dishes. He walked around the table and recommended ways to eat our meal (dips, seasonings, etc...)  and even convinced me to suck the bone marrow out of my lamb bone for the nutritional value. I can actually see some people enjoying that flavor, but it tasted a little oily for me =/It's decorated nicely as well, and you'll notice the scent of fresh lilies that are  placed around the restaurant. Great atmosphere! The only negative was that our waitress seemed a little impatient when we were trying to figure out the bill. There were 11 of us, and they can't split checks... that'll take a few minutes, and possibly even a calculator since we all had drinks!

Middle Eastern is one type of cuisine that I could eat everyday. I learned to love it while I was living in Qatar. Walking into Rumi's and smelling the sweet scent of grilled lamb with spices, memories of my time in the desert came back to me. Tonight, I only had an appetizer and the rack of lamb but the flavor was on point. Although some pieces were more charred than others, the main part of the meat was very tender and juicy. My date had the lamb kebab plate and it was like little chunks of heaven. Decor was very modern and chic, and our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend this place if you like middle eastern or don't know where to go for a date. I think they have hookahs too but I'm not sure.

It really is the best persian food, as everyone but 2 people have stated. I wish there was a stupid or idiotic button for reviews on other peoples reviews. It seems the only options are useful, funny, and cool. On more than one occasion I have wondered when they were gonna give us better options, I would certainly utilize them. Anyways, I have had preety much everything on the menu with the exception of the lamb, since I dont eat that. and their salmon, but really why would you go to a persian restaurant  and get salmon anyway? My favorites:  Mast Mousir, Kashk Badenjoon, tahdeeg koobideh, or barg.

I would comfortably call this the best Persian dining experience in the Atlanta area. The flavor of much of the food is comparable to Persepolis down the street, but the presentation, ambiance, and quality of the ingredients puts it a notch above. The similarity to Persepolis is not surprising, as the spirit behind this restaurant left Persepolis to take the cuisine presented there to the next level.I almost always get a crispy rice (tahdeeg) appetizer and the koubideh and barg combination. The chicken is also close to perfection, as it's always appropriately seasoned and never dry. The hot tea service is a good complement to these. The only negatives to this place are the parking and that it is too popular. I'm happy when my favorite places do so well that it is difficult to get a seat on a weekend night. However, this means plans and reservations must be made, as spontaneity is not rewarded. Along with this, the parking lot is tiny and has terrible driveways. There is valet service, but there's not quite enough room for two cars to queue entering the place. These plus the (appropriate) price point bring it down from a five to a four, as I wish I could make this a more regular dining experience, but instead have to make it a special occasion.

I think they have hookahs too but I'm not sure.Huge fan of the lambshank stew and barg kabob at Rumi's. Great location, great atmosphere, great customer service. 5 stars.Wow!
