Great Place. Great Music. Easy to hook up with girls here.

I enjoyed this place.  We went with a group of friends for my husband's birthday this past May.  Most of us have children and rarely get a chance to go out altogether so we made the most of it.  We arrived early in the evening on a Saturday night before it got crowded, which ranged in age but very diverse ethnically.  There was a bridal shower crew there but I find that pretty standard here in the south.  The music was fun and the drinks were reasonable.  Can't really say how the 'scene' was for the single crowd since we are all married but the place was packed.  Sadly we all had to leave by 1:30AM to relieve our sitters!

Fun spot!  Cheap shots (as Wendy H.) mentioned.  A fun crowd but definitely some OTP mixed in.

Pretty medium sized club...parking is right across the street and it didn't take long to find a spot. Their VIP area is really nice and if I ever had a birthday party or any other special event, I'd definitely consider booking it. Otherwise the club setting was ok...definitely great if you feel like dancing or people watching in the corner with a drink.

It was pretty good, but i liked Lava more. I'd agree with Nicole, it seemed a little more like a people watching or private party kind of spot. We went back to Lava pretty quickly after hanging out for a bit.

Great, underground type club next to South City Kitchen.  We got there early, so it was kind of empty but even later, it felt like people were more people watching than dancing.  Not really a fan of being watched/admired/mocked, but I was with good friends so I had a good time nonetheless.

Do not open a tab! They gave my credit card and license to someone else! As I was trying to close my tab and get my credit card and drivers license back, the bartender informed me my tab didn't exist. Although I was fairly certain it did, I checked the other bars in Sutra, as well as another club I'd been at recently. Everyone thought I was crazy, including me.Two days later a guy called me through my bank. He had my ID and credit card. The bartender at Sutra had given it to his sister. According to my credit card company no one tried to charge anything so I had no reason to believe it was stolen. Further, he went to some lengths to contact and return the items - an incredibly helpful gesture. (Welcome to Atlanta Robert, I wish everyone were as decent as you are!)I contacted the manager, who was sympathetic but unable to find any record of my tab. He let me know that if I came by again that he would waive my cover. Given that I had driven an hour to Stockbridge and back to get my ID and canceled my debit card (leaving me without money until I made it to the bank) I felt a little short-changed. As he couldn't figure out who lost the items, the bartender still works there.***The space is open and the music (hip-hop) is good. The crowd is mixed, well dressed, and friendly. Unlike some similar - if larger - places they don't make the non-VIP guests second class citizens. Weekends are busy but not uncomfortably crowded.Despite this, it's not my scene. Perhaps the DJ isn't irreverent enough, perhaps the lighting is bad, perhaps I need more than just one big room and a patio. That said, I have friends who love it there. All I can say is check it out for yourself, just don't open a tab.

Vanity, thy name is Sutra! I am giving this place 3 stars NOT because I like this place (which I didn't), but because I can see other people having a good time here. I  went on a saturday night at 11:30 because we had free passes to get in before midnight, otherwise its $10 cover. The crowd  I would say....is more on the Douchbag-Rich Snob Muscle Milk crowd. I went up to this one guy who was watching these girls dance, and jokingly said "fucking skanks", like in the New Haircut video, and the guy says "I know right!", completely serious. Oh by the way, this was the MOST expensive bar I have ever been to. Not worth it. There are these private booths in the middle of the bar that I guess I wasn't cool enough to even STAND by. They are constantly pushing you out of the way, wich is a horrible design because they are all right by the main bar. Just not my type of place. So me and my friends left and went to Front Page News down the street and had a much better time. Again, other people probably would enjoy this place much more than me.*note: there is a smaller bar in the back left corner that you can get served at much quicker than the main place.

This has got to be one of the best kept secret clubs in Atlanta.  I am glad that they are finally starting to get their name out there especially after the remodeling.  I was recently there for the VIP night of the Grand Re-Opening and had a blast.  The staff is very good looking and quite experienced.  My favorite bartender Steve has been in the industry for longer than I have been in Atlanta.  He used to be my bartender at 1150 (now Opera) and is even better here.  From Aaron in security, Jason at the door, all the way to the owner Rez you can't get any better people.  They all make you feel like they know you and take great care of you.  This is a club that I frequent quite often and even more now that they have hookah's and they did an amazing job with the remodeling.

Sutra Lounge is hardly a lounge with the DJ bouncing tunes that gets the crowd grooving till closing and its time to hit up the Waffle House. It is best on Friday nights, and you avoid cover if you get in before midnight. The bar is full of hot bartenders and the dance floor is just the right size to feel crowded but not overwhelmed. The outside porch is sure to be full of sweat filled midtown 20-somthings taking a breather from the dance floor. The bartenders are amazingly fast at mixing drinks, and I suggest you try a pineapple upside down cake shot (even my guy friends will admit to liking it). The DJ plays a mix of hip-hop, rap, and ethnic mixes and never misses a beat. Most everyone who comes to Sutra is there to dance.Show up with a bunch of friends, take a round of shots or two, and dance till closing.

I went when 3 dot productions use to promote.  I can't complain too much with free entry, but I would never go if I paid cover.  I just didn't feel there was anything visually appealing about the club and the dance floor was tiny.

We went to Sutra on Thursday night.  We got there around 11:30p, walked in, the place was pretty empty.  I was sure we were going to regret this decision.  The DJ was hip hop and so was the crowd.  People seemed to stick to their own groups of friends.  I did see a couple of girls working a guy for drinks.  He didn't seem to mind. The drinks were good and moderately priced.  There's banquette seating on the dance floor but none at all around the bar.  Don't wear your "cute" shoes because you may be standing all night.

Sutra is dark and secluded and hard to be driven away from the posh looking club across the street, Opera. Sutra is much smaller and not as "posh" as Opera (would like to be.) The space is really dark and the bar seems limited and small, and the dancefloor is also tiny as well. I don't think it's the "to be seen" place at all, way too dark also. Music was ok, but most the people are standing around in the way of people who want to dance... just not a good combo.

Sutra is a cool midtown spot...it can be a little hitt or miss sometimes depending upon the DJ spinning. The crowd can also be hitt or miss...sometimes sexxy, sometimes a little rough. I'd usually pop in and if the music is right, will have a couple of cocktails and dance for a while. For the most part the clientele has been mature, diverse and there to party each time I've been which is why I'd continue to check in with Sutra when in Midtown. They have good security and I never feel like things will get out of control while there. Usually no cover for the ladies.!

I give Sutra a 4 star(would choose 3.5 if I could!) for being good at what it is(nice little dance spot thats cheap). It's not going to be a "destination" type place(ie mega club, or ultra exclusive lounge..etc) but thats not necessarily a bad thing.Pros: it's cheap. $10 cover(no cover before midnight with pass, readily available at local condos/apts/stands that have restaurant/bar promos).it has a mixed crowd. its not all black. its not all white. and it usually has a few asian and indian ppl. don't see too many latinas. this kinda mix is  HUGE plus for me. why do you want to go somewhere where everyone is the same??not too crowded, esp around dance floor area. walking area is seperate to dance floor. so you don't have a lil path of ppl cutting through parts of the dancefloor.overall bartenders are pretty good about quick service. assuming you are tipping...Cons:DJ Music is OK. More hip hop than top 40 which is good. but song selection can be weak sometimes.Budlight is 4.50(they don't have miller lite). which isn't bad but I just hate the 50cents part. all that change just gets in the way. why not just a round number. more of a pet peeve of min than anything. besides they usually end up getting it back via tip. I guess keep the change really does mean keep the change. mix drinks are avg prices.. don't remember being shocked by them at all.girls on avg aren't knock out beauties. but don't get me wrong there are always a few hotties roaming around. its just no overflowing with them.the place is not crowded until midnight. go in at 10:30 and it will be dead. go in at 11:00 at it'll be dead....11:30 your ok. midnight and there is a nice crowd. this really isn't a con but I do know someone who actually went there at 10:30 and wondered why it was empty. who gets to the club on the weekend at 10:30?!?

Sutra Lounge is Green With Envy.  Be green with envy...when you enter with Diane I and myself.  We got TONS of drinks but paid only $12.00 total, (thanks D for buying).  Be green with envy...while we danced to hot hip-hop music which only exists in hip-hop nation: ATL.  Be green with envy...because not only did we look hot but I was able to score even more free jaeger shots from the bartender and random dudes in the back outdoor area.  Be green with envy...because rocking in metal Prada shoes can also score you free Indian ciggies.  **Yes, I've de-virginized my lungs this night.  I'm now a Social Smoker.**  Be green with envy...because I now make smoking look HOT! Be green with envy...when Diane I and I eat shit and scraped our chin hands on our way home.Be Green With Envy @ Sutra Lounge!!!

I have spent many a great night at Sutra lounge!! My ideal night out in Atlanta includes dinner at Fuego for delicious tapas, then next door to Sutra for some dancing and cocktails. Sutra has a hip atmosphere and a diverse crowd. the dance floor is huge and takes up 1/2 of the place! I am guilty of in the past of dancing on one of the center stage boxes on the dance floor for girls to shake it! hehe The staff is very friendly and the manager always remembers me when I show my face....it pays to be a regular:-) The drinks are made well and the selection of wine does not suck....which is a compliment for clubs in ATL!! They also have a cool patio for taking breaks from dancing out back complete with bar.

It's funny how many nights out on the town, have ended up here at Sutra unintentionally. My night starts out, planning to go to Opera, or Leopard Lounge or some other place nearby, but then the lines are too long at Opera, the crowd or music isn't so great at Leopard Lounge, so where do we head.....SUTRA!!!That being said, I must say although it's not one of my first places to want to go for a night out on the town, it never fails, that I have a GREAT night when I end up here after all is said and done!! I've NEVER paid cover to get in,which is always great! We usually get out there early,so it's pretty dead to begin the night out, but once 11:30 or so hits, man that place is PACKED!! That would probably be the only downside I have, it does get hot, and you will most likely be sweaty, but it's still fun for a night of dancing. The dj is good, and plays the most recent hits, and even takes requests if you want. I would definitely recommend this place if you're just looking for a guaranteed fun night out and full of dancing!!! Man, writing this brings back memories, and I haven't been out there since Halloween so I might need to make a trip back out myself..... LoL!

I'm a man, so I buy into the philosophy that there are three things that men need to make a club fun:1.  Low (or no) cover2.  Easy access to relatively cheap alcohol3.  Plenty of tipsy women looking to have fun.Music, decor?  Who cares, as long as its enough to fulfill requirement #3.Thursday nights at Sutra seems to have all of that.  It was by no means packed, but there were plenty of people there and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.    I was with a group when I went, so I didn't truly check out the, umm, local flavor, but my cursory scan makes me comfortable recommending it to my boys. There's a nice little patio area where men can chat up their dance floor conquests, which I guess is what causes it to qualify as a lounge. It pretty much looks like a dance club to me.Oh, rumor has it that a couple of very cute yelpers are regularly found here.  Even more incentive to stop by...

Large club, nice open space patio, wasn't super keen on the music but it drew quite a crowd the night we were out there....Interesting VIP area; one with a glass enclosed room, seemed a lil stuffy and another area which was part of the dance floor but had barricade surrounding it differentiating it as another "VIP" area.We didn't stay very long. Interesting to check out but not my cup of tea.

I see a lot of positive reviews for this place.  I've only been on a Friday night so let me know if I should go during the week.  This place is more like a 3.5.  Sutra is no where close to being a lounge.  The only place to sit is by the dance floor which is incredibly small.  They do have a real laid back patio and pretty good VIP.  Drink prices are average.  They have a real great staff and the crowd is made up of all races.  DJ's actually do a pretty good job of mixing music.  The problem with this place is the size.  The dance floor gets packed with 50 people on it.  I've been when we got VIP and 4 bottles of champagne and also when we were on a budget of like $40 each.  I would recommend going cheap cause it's not worth splurging at this place.  You will have the same type of night.  They get a huge plus for having my ID and Credit Card which I forgot twice....haha..dont ask how...you know the drill

eh.  I'm really not a fan, but I don't really have a good reason. The crowd is definitely a crazy mix.. you never know what to expect.  You walk downstairs into Sutra, where it is really dark and foggy.  There is a patio out back, and a private room kinda in the middle..

In my experience a good time is had by all at Sutra.  I usually hit up Sutra after a long exhausting day or night of work, when I want to "let my hair down" and cut loose.  Their music is usually South, hiphop on Friday and Saturday nights, which definitely pleases the crowd. The drinks are reasonably priced and one can find a mixed crowd of friendly, but hopefully not disgusting patrons.  Also, enjoyable is the patio out back featuring a bar and occasional snacks.  Please speak  to and utilize the well-stocked bathroom attendants. I would suggest Sutra to the hip, yet mature mid to late twenties (plus) yelper.

So i like Sutra, yes only like Sutra, but I used to LOVE sutra.o well. The drinks are expensive (of course they have always been, and I don't mind paying much for strong drinks) - but this might be a deal breaker for mostI do miss the bathroom attendant, but I mean, do we really need someone to help us wash our hands . . . noThe dance floor seems to get smaller and smaller every time i go, and that makes me sad, because boy do I love to dance.take those damned pod thingies out of the dance floor, and perhaps we will have more room to dance.I don't tink it is dark in Sutra, I actually think it's perfect. The layout is a little strange though. There is always a tight maneuver between the dance floor and the bar, and the bar and the bathroom . . . they should do something about that, like extend the bar or something.and last time i went, I didn't pay, so i can't comment on the cover being expensive, but having to pay when I have never paid before would really pissed me off.The thing that Sutra has going for it is that people of all shapes and sizes, color, and walks of life go there, and yet they are all hot, and that is wonderful lol.so i would recommend Sutra, because it is never empty and you will at least have a good time, and perhaps you will have a great time L)

I went to Sutra this past Saturday for a friend's birthday.  We had a private "VIP" area in the back corner that's at the bottom of the stairs as you enter the club (Sutra is in the basement of Fuego). The music was pretty top-40ish, and the crowd was super diverse.  Since the SEC championship was this past weekend there were a lot of Hats and sweatshirts too so I'm not sure if that's typically dress-code compliant but it was on Saturday.I mean, it's a basement.  There's booze.  People were dancing.  But it was really crowded and there just aren't many places to sit down and relax unless you've got a VIP section on hold (which comes with a hefty minimum).  Our section was a max of 12 peeps with a minimum of $500 tab.  Thankfully the 1 liter of Grey Goose set us back a whopping $275 (!!!) so we were well on our way.  Unfortunately, i drink almost exclusively beer so I wasn't much help.Anyway, huge props for the diversity of clientele but personally i could have gone for a broader mix of music than "Hey, what's hot on Q100? Beyonce?  Shoulda put a ring on it!?  Ok, play that every 2 hours".  The previous review points out that there isn't much in the area of the "lounge" genre but Leopard Lounge is around the corner, Twisted Taco has more seating (albeit a much different atmosphere), and a simple search on Yelp will help you find a more "diverse" club space.  Hell, Halo isn't even that far down the street.  Cosmo/Lava isn't the end-all, be-all but at least you can find a place to sit and talk if you want a break from the dancing (and if you're into basements they've got that too).To reiterate, i was really impressed with the mixed bag of people.  No group was "over-represented" and the crowd probably represented the racial mix of the city pretty well.  That's definintely something that is hard to come by.  But the club is just a standard space.  Kinda cool, but as clubs go not outstanding.

I've gone to Sutra before Sutra was Sutra. I was first introduced to Sutra because of a Versace party. I was hooked from there. This place was small but not crowded. Black and white theme. They played great music and the vibe was very chill.A year later Sutra became Super Hip. Hosting theme parties and even expanded to Internet advertising. They brought in little blocks with half naked dancers. But somehow I still loved Sutra. It never failed that I would have a good time here.Sutra in 08. I don't know what happened. I received the emails that the doors were closed because of new renovations, but ummm it still looks the same. The change...Original Sutra's VIP was a glass room with sofas to view the dance floor, a year later Sutra, I can't tell if the glass was knocked down but VIP was expanded to half The Original Sutra dance floor, 08 Sutra's VIP is the exact same except for white curtains draped across a banister and it may have expanded out over more of the dance floor (soon Sutra will be all VIP except for the walk way to the bathroom)The patio hasn't changed, no updates to the bathroom, except they removed the attendant. You still can't pay with a credit card unless you have a minimum of $30 or want to open a tab =( I was a little disappointed when I got to the door and they were trying to charge me $10 (me pay at Sutra? I don't like the new guy at the door) BUT thanks to the sweet guy that whipped out the $10 on my behalf =) Will return again, but disappointed. I expected more from a renovation.

Did not want to tell this story, but it really did happen at the Sutra Lounge. I was hanging with some friends who wanted me check out this club. The club was popping with great music and sexy ladies every where. For me it's all about the bar and my drink. This girl comes up behind me with a sexy voice, " Would you care to dance with me tonight" - I turned around and to my surprise she was cute and weighing about 350 pounds. How could I say no, my name is J nyce..So here we go with all my boys looking at me with a smile or shock on their face. My fav song by 50 cents was coming on (Da Club) - Hey shorty it's your birthday, something like that. We had a good time on the floor, she was moving does hips with force. The dance floor was packed with people and lights flashing everywhere. After the song we go back to the bar to get a drink, she really wore me out. It all good!!! I'am sure I made her night. Nothing against big woman - big is sexy.......it's all about them. Whatever makes her happy. For me I like them slim and trim with sexy lips. More details later. So we talk for a little bit and she tells me her name is Lisa, nice name. Then after about 10 minutes she goes to the ladies room and as she walks away, she drops her ID on the ground. Before I read her ID, I was thinking to myself, this girl is really big and she looks so strong. The name on the ID read BRUCE MILLER....WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! I could not tell my friends this. I just felt ill and very faint.....I told my friends I had to leave......I was not feeling well. John wanted to know if he could talk with LISA, he like woman who are big and sexy.I told him, she is all yours. GOOD LUCK.....I was doing about 75 mph on I 85.....and a female cop pulls me over. She told me get out of the car, so I did. (where are you coming from)I told her the Sutra Loung Club, please officer let me explain. I told her what happen to me at the club, she just laughed and said, "get home safe Justin" .......What a night!!!!The club gets 4 stars.....Lisa she is star!

Wow! I have to be honest and say I am a frequent visitor of Fuego Spanish Grill...the staff is awesome, but that's a whole other review, but I never really thought much about just walking two steps to the right, or left if you're standing facing the bar, and checking out Sutra. I don't know why. It baffles me to this day because I love to dance and the crowd that makes their way in is not bad on the eyes either.Anyway with not so little coaxing from Tim, the bartender at Fuego, I have officially become a sort of loyal patron at Sutra. The bouncers are always friendly! I mean always. I'm sure they wouldn't be if you got out of line or rowdy, but they're the first people you see before you even make your way through the door so for them to be as polite as they are is a huge plus. I've met some rude bouncers and that is just a complete turn off right there. * I won't mention clubs but you know which clubs you are* It doesn't just stop at the bouncers though. The impecable and friendly service must be infectious for the employees because moving from the door girl to the bartenders and on to any staff you may meet while making your way through the club and on to the patio, everyone is on top of things. The music varies, but if anyone knows me they know I like to shake my booty or just bounce around like the energizer bunny (lol), and Sutra definitely serves it up huge on that note. The music can be top 40, house, or dance, but you're always moving and the vibe is always on point. The crowd is definitely a variety. You name the nationality...they're there. lol I love it!!! I'm sure like any place they have their off nights, but lets hope not because I like to keep the party going and when Friday comes I want to get it started or end my evening at Sutra.

I have nothing against snooty clubs.  I honestly have nothing against "Face Control."  There is nothing wrong with places that make you jump through hoops to get inside, or have rude waitstaff - as long as the experience is worth it.  In the case of Sutra, the rudeness and the general overpriced atmosphere of the place is not. From not honoring promotions (guy brings in three girls, gets free cover - "$10 please!"), over priced drinks for Atlanta market ($9 for a cocktail!), the tiny dance floor, the obnoxious bouncers, and blatant sex discrimination ("I don't care if you are with your friends, the box is for the ladies"), this place sucked like a Hoover.  At one point, I felt like I would have more fun cleaning my condo. The 14th and Crescent neighborhood has a ton of cool places - Twisted Taco, Leopard Lounge, Cosmo/Lava, Door 44, and Frontpage News to name a few... there is NO reason to even pause in front of Sutra's door.

I didn't care for this place because it's very small and cramped.Funny and true story... a friend and I were walking by on a Thursday night and asked the bouncers outside what was going on that night... he smiled, opened the door for us, and replied "You guys!" ... mind you we're good looking girls, but by no means supermodels. So yeah... if we were the most exciting thing to have happen that night, it must have been pretty lame!

Went here for an AIMA private event and had a good time.  Granted it was my first trip to Atlanta, but the Sutra Lounge has a HUGE space with a cool bar (probably near 40-50' long). It is located in midtown Atlanta, and there doesn't seem to be much else in the area of the 'Lounge' genre.Anyway, the lighting wasn't too dim, as many lounges are and the atmosphere and staff seemed to be pretty upbeat and fun.  I am not much of a lounge guy, but I enjoyed it.Also, I noticed the Yelp sticker on the front door which made me feel at home.

so me and my great friend were on our way to that club across the street, and the owner stopped us. he say I ll let you girls in for free, forget that place. We were guest listed across the street to so I said can we come back if the other place suck owner say you girls no doubt. How cool. So the other place sucked, we came over at about 12. The really cool security let us right in. The bartender was fast and made decent drinks. The space was a bit small but if you on one of the stages who cares???? The outdoor area was rad, the guys are OK. But pretty much awesome for those club nights

Great Place! The owner was standing right in front and met us as we were walking in the door. Later we bumped into him by the bar and he remembered everyone's names, (even the ugly girls!). He is a really nice guy and seems to be a very in tune business owner. As for the lounge, I found it very nice. It wasn't too loud, which is always my club v. bar complaint. As a smoker I appreciated the outdoor HEATED patio, which had it's own bar as well. There is even a bathroom attendant! All in all my friends and I had a really good time and everyone I was with expressed wanting to return.

It had been quite a while since I had been to Sutra - the club just seemed to gather a younger crowd, so it was not really at the top of my list.  But one of my favorite bartenders tells me that he has started working there and I have to go and show my support! :)It was last Thursday night, we get to the door - they are very friendly - but I notice that they are patting down the guests as they enter.  I'm shocked and one of the owners instantly senses my concern and explains that it has to do with some event going on across the street at Opera.  So apparently, this is not their norm.  That being the case, I don't think that they should discriminate.  If you are going to do a pat down, don't leave the girls out of the feel-ski  :DIn we go!  The music is very cool.  Cool vibe, great crowd.  And my favorite bartender is slinging drinks and making everyone smile.  This is a don't miss on the club scene... then mosey on over to Lava/Cosmo right around the corner.Oh, and when you make the visit to Sutra - make sure you ask for Brunner!  You won't regret it!
