The BookHouse Pub Reviews
by Sarah E.
I went to the BookHouse Pub earlier this week to catch up with an old friend. We sat at the bar, and our bartender was super nice. I sampled 3 different kinds of beer, and they were all tasty. I also tried the lamb sausage (YUM) and the collard green eggrolls (interesting and pretty tasty, but the lamb sausage was yummier). The atmosphere was nice... chill, dimly lit, non-smokey. The vibe seemed a little on the hipster side, but not aggressively so.My only beef with the place was that they were out of two kinds of beer, which is significant when there isn't a huge selection. Still, I would definitely go back. :)

BookHouse is an enjoyable place to grab a few unique beers and hang out. It's cozy, which sometimes degenerates into crowded, but you can usually find a good seat. There's a front and a back patio for outdoor lovers, and together those have a good amount of seating. The beer selection is solid, I feel like I saw 30 or so beers, and you can pick up some off-the-beaten-path beers at a very reasonable price (e.g. a good American microbrew for under $5). I had a really great burger there as well, and while they can go a bit on the adventurous side on the food front (e.g. collard green eggrolls), the results are usually good. I didn't look for the sweet potato and spinach wrap I had before that was surprisingly good, but I get the impression that the menu changes a lot. As long as they keep the burger, I won't fuss.No complaints, it's a great alternative to The Porter and The Brick Store when you want some good beers, and it's right in Poncey Highlands.

I'm both relieved and excited to have more places like this popping up around Atlanta. I've always been a fan of the great Brick Store pub, and this one is similar in style and ambiance. If only I could get the names straightened out now. Bookstore? Brookstone? She's a Brickhouse? The one on ponce? Wait... dammit!Hmm... In an analog world that has, with no doubt, passed beyond the singularity, ever descending towards iPhones, iPods, blu-rays, GPS, and Reality TV, there still stands our last great hero: beer. BookHouse does this well, with good people just hanging out to have a drink and enjoy the art of conversation.I had the burger and it was good. Definitely better than your average bar burger. Good 'n fresh. Fresh 'n tasty. Beer selection like the others have said is good. Typical crowd seems to be post-college age and up. Laid back and mature. Dig.

Everything my fellow Yelpers said about this place having the best damn light fixtures in Atlanta is 100% true. And they only get more fascinating as your BAC increases.BookHouse has the kind of laid back vibe I wish we had more of in this city. An interesting beer list about 20 deep, a short food list with moderate portions and some seasonal specials, and a wrap-around shelf of books that will have you craning your neck to figure out what that volume is you recognize three tables over. And even though it's small, there's some quality conversation and people-watching to be had here. All that plus the nonsmoking atmosphere makes this place a winner.

Came here with a few of my fellow Yelpers. Unassuming place, kinda tucked away in the back corner of a lonely shopping square (across from Green's on Ponce). I showed up and my friends were nursing some over-sized pints of beer. Nice! I perused over the menu and the oyster mushroom, arugula with fried egg salad seemed interesting. I asked our waitress how big the portion size was and she stated that it was between an appetizer and an entree. "Perfect", I thought. Well, when it came out, it was pretty gosh darn tiny. Maybe 6 mushroom slices, maybe a handful of arugula leaves, but dang was it delicious. The mushrooms were cooked and marinated perfectly. We also ordered chicken salad at the same time, which came out 20 minutes after my salad did. When we quizzed the waitress, she said that the chicken was frozen and needed to be defrosted. Hmmm.Either way, not a bad experience. I liked the ambiance of the place, definitely cool and cozy. The service was pretty good. Not sure if there's anything to draw me back in particular. If they had that salad in an entree size, maybe. 2.5 stars, but I don't feel like rounding up tonight.

There are several things I love about this bar:1. Smoke free - as an asthmatic I love being able to go out without suffocating on second-hand smoke. Although all the smokers stand around the front door so, you walk through their cloud to get int he door. Geez! Be a little considerate and move 5 ft. away!2. Conversational vibe - this isn't your typical frat-tastic bar with neon signs everywhere and TVs to fixate upon. The vibe of this place is to kick back, relax, and enjoy the company of you friends.3. Drink selections - not great but, decent.4. Interior decor - love the beautiful wood. It creates a very warm atmosphere. The only thing I don't like: the menu/food.The location is okay. It's convenient if you live in the neighborhood.

After my second foray into the Bookhouse, I can confidently say that I'm a fan--both trips into the dark, wooded bar have left me feeling quite happy with both the food and the service. I can't really speak about the beer list, as a non-beer drinker, but the food does hit the spot. My sandwich last night, for example, deeply-red roast beef, flavorful and served on appropriately-crispy bread, sated my appetite and kept me around when a few members of our party left to hit HF. My first trip here was a precursor to Ivan S's bachelor party, and while we waited for a table large enough for our group, the staff tried their best to accommodate our party of 12 with a combination of barstools and individual tables.Last night, I went to meet some friends for a birthday gathering, and while we started in one of the booths, our server had no problem when we needed to relocate to the largest seating area. In fact, I find the only drawback of the Bookhouse is the limited space and seating. Therefore I am somewhat hesitant to expound on our server, Mandy (or "Raving Mandingo," according to the tab), because I have a feeling that there might be those who read this review who will flood the Bookhouse hoping to catch a glimpse of a mythical creature. Aside from her first-rate service, which included having all the checks separated individually before we even had to ask, from time to time, she would stop and chat with us--initially about drink choices, later about other interests. I noticed the Ankh adorning her neck and asked if she were a Sandman fan; she told me yes, and showed me her tattoo of Goldie, the gargoyle from the Dreaming. When she heard us talking about Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2, she excitedly asked if any of us were going to Blizzcon, where she'll be going to meet the rest of her World of Warcraft guild.I had an ephemeral glimpse of the rare, elusive, comic-book-reading, computer-game-playing, resemblance-to-DC/Vertigo's-Death-with-an-ankh-bea ring, Manic Pixie Dream Girl. If I've piqued the interest of any fanboys reading this, remember to tip, you stingy bastards.

It was fun. Didn't eat there but really did enjoy a great beer selection.Their mixed cocktails were strong, the beer was good. I tried 2 different kinds of beer. Both were great brews.... I was happy and probably will be back again sometime soon!

I've got bad timing. I met up with Tulie L. at the BookHouse Pub, arriving just after 7 to join her and two of her friends who had been there for a few minutes already. Ordered a beer, then started perusing the menu left on the table to order some food. When the server brought my beer, I told her I'd like to order some food as well, referring to the menu."Oh, you can't order from that menu now. It's after 7," she said. I then noticed that it was printed on the top that that particular list of items was only available to early guests -- after 7 pm the normal menu kicks in. She brought me a new one and I learned that all the dishes on the early bird menu were also on the full-blown menu -- at a 50-75% increase in price. Eg. Hangar Steak, $10 for early birds, $18.50 for late comers. Damn!Glass is half empty -- What? 10 minutes after this "deadline" expires and I get bent over the table with significantly higher prices? Ouch!Glass is half full -- people that get there early get a great discount on some normally pricier items. I settled on a burger, which incidentally wasn't available to the blue hairs (aka early birders). It was just okay -- the meat wasn't seasoned very well and was on the bland side. It was also kind of tough, even with a medium-rare to medium temperature preparation. But the toppings were fresh and the bun was decent. Meh. The beer was good though.
by Euphrosini S.
Large selection of beers but if you are looking for just a Bud Light or something else generic you aren't going ot find it here. The menu is as eclectic as the beer selection and just as yummy.Patio out back AND front gives you lots of outdoor options and really chill atmosphere for something different from the usual ATL crowd.

Home of the weak fucking pour. Sick and tired of getting some of the weakest ass drinks I have ever had right here at our very own Bookhouse. Just thinking about the rant I want to go off on.... jesus. Probably 3 separate visits at least - my vodka sodas tasted like straight Schweppes. My advice: head to The Local next door: Belvedere for $6! Kettle as well! Grey Goose is $8. that part is kinda shitty. but anyway... oh right, I'm reviewing the bookhouse.I'm sure if you're drinking beer - it's all good. They have a selection of sorts - I noticed various taps and colored bottles. That's pretty much all I can help you with there.Otherwise... the food... ah yes.. food. Believe it or not, I have actually eaten here several times as well. And I actually think the food is kind of decent for bar food. But it's overpriced. And that's where the fun stops. My last meal here was the hanger steak. For $18+ I should not be getting some goddam instant mashed potatoes. Fucked up if you ask me. For the early bird special price of $10, the steak is a bargain. For $18, I expected a lot more. Like maybe two hanger steaks.Burger - it was fine in a pinch, not bad or anything - kind of a standard burger. Imagine like if you asked a genie for a hamburger, and you forget to get specific (because that's how genies fuck you)..... this is what you'd get. sweet potato spinach wrap - does the carby job. gets you full, keeps you drinking. but nothing to write home about.Beet carpaccio - I was hoping it was a typo but sadly it's just very very thinly sliced beets. no beef to be found. Tasty.. but shit, talk about money tree on this one.duck risotto - tasted good. but also tasted like leftovers. must have been sitting in the fridge for a while. funnel cake - how can you possibly dick up a funnel cake? answer: you can't. this shit is pretty good. comes with cinnamon ice cream. car bomb float mess thingy - eh I guess if you really like beer, and ice cream this works. I really like ice cream, but beer not so much. I should have listened to my imagination on this one. fail.Anyway, this review is a train wreck as usual. and I kind of just want to let it go, so here it is. I actually probably would have given this place 4 stars if I didn't get such weak ass drinks everytime. I am seriously pissed about that. Otherwise it's a decent place, the no smoking is awesome, but it is still a bit overpriced. I do recommend checking it out, despite what I may have said. But don't forget to head over to the Local when you're done and get a real drink.

Since they opened last year I've only been 3~4 times. The beer selection is excellent in more of a selective way. The breadth is not at all comparable to Brick Store and Porter, but good enough to call a beer pub. They do offer tasting set, so not bad. The no-bean chili and oyster mushroom/egg/salad concoction were just delicious. Sadly neither was on the menu on my last visit. Smoked trout mac and cheese satisfied, but elicited no future craving. The collard green egg rolls were kind of vile. Also, when I visited around 11:30 last time, they were running out of everything (that is, everything but the much reviled collard green egg rolls). They offer a few big plate entrees (pork chop, rib eyes, etc.) for such a small place, but I never tried those. If I've tried the fries at all, they were so unmemorable I cannot recall how they tasted. There are books in the Bookhouse; it's a nice interior but I don't see myself actually reading here. Cool staff, which is kind of expected based on the location and owners. They were building a patio but I am not sure when I'll visit this place again to check that out...seems like a bad idea as it's in the ugly parking lot with no vista. It's certainly a 4 star place if the food were consistently good, with more items I would actually want to eat.

The Atmosphere: rich, woody, bookish inside, with a front porch that overlooks a parking lot with worthy people watching and an open but isolated split level back porch made complete at night by strings of kitschy miniature hanging oriental lamps. Smoke free interior. Can I get an Amen? The Waitstaff: a strong indie vibe, with attentive service, and the anime girl (see Sarah S. below) had saint-like patience with a group of zealously drunk baboons...although in this case, a punch-in-the-nose (delivered kung-fu anime style) would've been appropriate. As soon as my glass was near empty, another was on its merry way to me, with a smile. I like being in places where the staff smiles. Real smiles. The beer. I've never needed to go off-draught, as their selection is perfectly serviceable for a partial-snob like myself. The beer snobs I've attended with were likewise happy with the selection, although its not TacoMac, Brickstore, or Porters deep. In that way, its not overwhelming or gimicky. Easy to find something you like without reading a dissertation-length beer list. The food. I can't say, but I'm certain my increasingly regular patronage of this spot will eventually end up in a food-based update. Oh, and Clermont lounge across the street. That just about guarantees some well intentioned night will end badly at some point.

2 cider beers + 1 pot pie filled with chunks of cornish game hen, topped with a golden, flaky biscuit-like crust + 1 very ambiguous yet strangely attractive dude sitting at twelve o'clock = A near perfect equation. Except.... Throughout the meal my gaydar was going all a-flitter. I never did quite figure out if the object of my affection liked my kind or the three legged kind, which equal parts bugged me and turned me on. Also my appetizer (the super disgusting oyster mushroom salad topped with some kind of frou-frou egg) almost made me puke. It was weird and slimy with lots of gray watery stuff at the bottom. I'm seriously gagging just thinking about it. That aside, I liked the all wood, non-smoking (Yessssssss!) atmosphere. And I L-to-tha-O-V-E-D'd our adorable waitress who appeared to have stepped right out of an anime feature.

Babarella learning the savage forms of Twisted Love as David Lynch plumbs the depths with his bobless line."An angel has no memory, " but the waitress knew good beer from bad. Fantastic.

Just a couple of notes on the food, as I didn't hit the taps. The burger with bacon and cheddar is super tasty. I think it would have been fine without the bacon, but hey, BACON. The patty is thickish and well-seasoned. Very nice bun-- possibly fresh-baked?They don't offer mashed potatoes as one of the free sides with the burger, but DO IT. $2 extra gets you a cute little pot of taters that you'll soon be scraping clean. Really good stuff. Would inhale again.I also shared part of the sausage plate with two other people. Several of those were really good. The sliced baguette it comes with is worth noting, as well-- warm and toasty, yet soft. This made me happy. I don't like bread that threatens me with injury. So, thumbs up from me. Bonus points for being non-smokey!Our waitress was very nice, and, if the receipt is to believed, was named COBRA. Awesome.

Stopped in a few times after work for a beer and a bite. It is a little cozy place with a strong reference to Twin Peaks. I would go back as a mix in happy hour late beer hangouts.Decor: Warm and cozy but super small. Usually you can't find much seating inside unless you belly up to the bar. Service: I am more drawn to sit outside most of the time but it can make service a challenge. You can easily be ignored and feel snubbed.Food: Great small bites menu with a twist on Southern classics. I have ordered the fried green tomatoes and collard green egg rolls more than once. The draft beer list is full of interesting choices.

Bookhouse is a small pub in the Poncey Highlands area named after characters from the Twin Peaks series. The bar is cozy, dimly lit and inviting. With two patios, one in front and one in back, there's plenty of room for larger groups to come hang out. As others have said there's a good beer selection ,but nothing like Brickstore. You'll find rarities but nothing that stands out as special. The bartender was great though and enjoyable to talk with on a slow Monday night. I could definitely see coming back and hanging out with friends at the bar. I have mixed reviews on the food. The blue cheese chips were great... it's blue cheese.. it's almost impossible to mess that up! Both my friend and I ordered the Bookhouse burger and were let down tremendously. Both patties were overcooked, and this had to have been the greasiest burger I've ever consumed. I felt like I had made out with lard.... I didn't finish it and was left a tad disappointed. Regardless of the food not working out in the end, I'll be back. It's a cozy neighborhood bar with cool people, good beer, and a great atmosphere.

Interesting little bar in the same mini-mall general area as MJQ and The Local on Ponce De Leon Ave. It's not big on space but there aren't that many people who go here anyway so it's comfy enough. The interior is laid out pretty well with a long bar to sit at and table booths to sit at everywhere along the walls. The outside is also really nice, it's got a two-level area with a patio and plenty of seats.Good service from the bartenders as well as a pretty decent beer selection. It's not Brickstore Pub level but it's better than your average bar.

I'm for cool. I'm for tasty. I'm for good beers. Bookhouse has all three. One thing they do not have: nice wait staff. Went there last Friday and there were a bunch of folks standing around. So we stood around too. Then, a table opened up, and we sat down. Five minutes later, the waitress came up and gave us menus. Then, she asked if we were "on the list." We replied that we did not even know there was "a list" to be on. Then she kicked us out of the table. She also dropped an F bomb. She was really classy. My feelings are hurt, but will probably give the place another shot to win my affection. 3 out of 4 ain't bad... just watch out for the saucy waitresses.
by Rob C.
Smoke free, cool interior, properly laid-back without overbearing hipster feel. The beer sampler options are a nice treat, as you can sample multiple tastes of goodness. Good beer selection as well, though that's just a pre-requisite these days. What pushes this up to 4-star territory is the grilled cheese sandwich. Now, I don't doubt that there are better grilled cheese sandwiches out there somewhere (maybe even here in Atlanta). But I can say in over three decades of grilled cheese eating I've never had one this good. it was a masterful blend of tastes and textures - truly epic. The cajun boiled peanuts were also a nice touch.

I stopped here for a drink and some snacks one evening. I have been meaning to visit this place since it opened as my new neighborhood bar, but somehow I keep missing it. The atmosphere is great- as everyone has said before me, the lighting, the dark wood, the "speakeasy" feel are perfect.I enjoyed the extensive and quality beer menu (I am a sucker for high gravity and dark brews). However, the two appetizers I ordered were not as great. The southern take on eggrolls, fried outside filled with collards, was a novel idea but it crashed and burned in my opinion. The blue cheese chips were also not overwhelming- I much prefer blue cheese crumbles melted over my chips, not what appeared to be blue cheese dressing heavily poured on the chips. C for the food, A plus for the atmosphere, A for the beer. I will return but mainly for drinking.

One of my 3 favorite bars in Atlanta. I hate it when people use the terms "indie," "hipster," and "Poncey-Highland-ish" as negative terms. It really shows the scope of what your life experience actually is. Because I think that the staff here is great. I almost like how the place feels as though it's intended for friends and family instead of the masses at large. I definitely feel at home here, and I like how I can dart over after a show at the Drunken Unicorn, or as an occasional escape from trivia at the Local. This is a bar. And I like to drink here. The beer list is pretty solid, and does get changed up from time to time - which is nice. The tastings are a good way to ease nonbelievers into the world of high-gravity beers and IPAs. Being from the Pacific NW, I adore the Twin Peaks nods - as well as the timberlodge-meets-library decor. It actually feels like I'm back in Portland instead of Atlanta...which in itself is worth 5 stars in my book. Any. Day. Of. The. Week.Localvore Mondays here are a treat, featuring special farm-to-table inspired tasting menus, and usually some sort of unique dessert.Oh and the salt lights that everyone keeps commenting on: they actually naturally purify the air, and that coupled with the no-smoking scene makes this an experience where the air inside the bar is probably cleaner than the filthy Atlanta smog you inhale when you step back out onto Ponce. I couldn't be more pleased with this place.
by Scribbler-oso H.
I've been here four or five times and I would say that this place is a quality establishment. Care was even taken in the books chosen to line the walls of the rich wooden booths. The wide selection of both food and drink are top-drawer. They even carry a particularly impressive favorite indulgence of mine -- a REAL Belgian lambic ON TAP! Lindemans' framboise, to be exact. The servers are well-informed and the environment has wonderful lighting. The place is pleasant. The food is consistently delicious and fine veggie options are available. No smoking indoors makes this a place one of the finest establishments of its sort in the area.

I live in the neighborhood and have to admit, was a little suspicious when this place opened. BookHouse, eh? in the mini-strip mall right across from the Clermont Lounge and the Murder Kroger? What's with the iron bars on the front door? What kind of books? Naughty books? Turns out my suspicions were unfounded. Books, yes. Naughty? No, not really. Unless you find Ringworld by Larry Niven salacious. The Bookhouse Pub is a nice addition to the eclectic selection of bars serving this section of Poncey Highland. No smoking (take that The Local!) gets a thumbs up. Cozy (i.e. small) dimly lit interior with a few booths and books lining the walls. Awesome beer selection at very reasonable prices (though average for the area). A nice patio out back - though the one out front gives you a good view of the shakedown artists roaming the hood. . . $1.26 short of getting that bus ticket back to Riverdale, you don't say? I've eaten here a few times and find it decent, though not exceptional. The grilled cheese was nice, fish sticks were meh (but to the extreme haters, they're fish sticks for crying out loud, not "the most delicious amazing piece of fish ever", geez), the burger, above average. And if you're hungry and need to coat your stomach before a night of drunken foolishness, get the blue cheese chips - they are a seriously huge portion and are delicious. The boiled peanuts are really tasty, though could be a bigger serving for $4 (or could cost $3). Two pieces of advice, first, when the weather sucks get there early - it is small and you will have to wait for a seat inside. Second, if you need to park and can't find a spot in the small lot, just drive a bit down Ponce de Leon Place and walk a couple blocks. After dinner, you can work off some of that food and beer. And maybe give that guy the $1.26 he's always asking for so he can get back to Riverdale.

bad, bad, bad.... We ordered a bunch of stuff, so I trieds a little of everything. The white anchovy dip - BLAH... I think it was made with the paste instead of the fish, pastey, oily and too pungent! Bread tasted like a freezer, not like bread.Cod 'fish stix' with artichoke dip - Blah, fish tasted frozen... then SUPER breaded... Dip was ok, but didn't go with the fish well at all. Shrimp and sweet potato in chipotle broth - this one was the worst! NO flavor... was just boiled shrimp, still wet with water, dry sweet potato chunks, 'broth' was just waterDuck breast - it was ok... had gotten cold, was over cooked and had the texture of being steamed or boiled, instead of having a crispy skin it was soggy and cold. Risotto - this was good, except all the water from the duck made it soupy, but if it had been on the side instead of under the duck... would've been better. Fries were good.... Hard to mess upBlue cheese dressing - was ranch dressing with blue cheese crumbles in it ?!?!Service Very slow. I was disappointed bc it had gotten some really good reviews My final review:It was striving to be something, but missed the mark!

We'll be back.Maybe the key (for me, at least) is where to sit. This time we were at the bar instead of at a table in East Egypt. We had some good conversation with the bartender (including her teased beehive hairdo which was very interesting), got good tips to find a place to dance to 80's/90's music, had a discussion on food allergies, and a few other things ALL in just like 20 minutes as we were going on to another place from there.María liked it a lot (again) and liked the cider (again); not so good was that they don't get the GF piece yet. Fortunately the chef was eating her dinner next to us at the bar so we raised her awareness. Getting there early was the key to solving the parking problem this time around. If the other time we came was a 3.5 star night, this might have been a 4.25 star night. I liked it a lot - not as much as the frau, but a lot.Okay, first the interesting kind of…

I really liked the inside of this place, though it is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. When I entered I instinctively went to the back to find the stairs for the upstairs. I quickly found out there were none and that it was indeed that small. It was okay though as I was early and easily got a table. They actually have a shelf near the top of the place with books on it. I thought that was pretty cool. I saw some Frank Miller and Alan Moore graphic novels up there that I really wanted to take down and read. The beer was good, they had a lot of selections and some good winter brews. The downside was the burger. It tasted weird and had some flavor I did not like. I like meat flavor and it had something else.Parking can be hard here with MJQ next door.

Well, I really needed to yelp about something in Atlanta since it's my new stomping ground so I figured I'd start on the right foot...The Bookhouse Pub is a place you can almost drive right by without noticing...Although, I'm def. glad I didn't miss this place. The decor is really interesting with different prints of birds, bugs and various animals (Although it did kinda look like they raided Urban Outfitters, but in a good way) and the dark wood/ambiance is perfect for a date night or just a pint after work. The crowd was artsy and they played good music in the bar area....I can't comment on the food because I was sluggin' cans of Dales Pale Ale (How cool is it that they have that?! Is that only an ATL thing??) So I will have to come back to take in the entire food/drink experience, in the meantime, kudos for an awesome/laid-back little spot!

My friends and I were lolly gagging before a show at the Drunken Unicorn and decided to hit up BookHouse for an alcohol-absorbing snack. I ordered the much-discussed Collard Green Egg Rolls: crispy-fried and served with a Vietnamese dipping sauce. My mouth became confused with the flavorful sensation--"Is it Mother's home cooking or Buford Highway cuisine?" my taste buds asked. Either way, I dug the atmosphere: geode lamps illumined every table, books lining the shelves around the top periphery of the room. Plus, the waitress brought us free beer samples. I'll be back!

Great intown Pub to hang out with friends. I went here on Nov 23 with a few friends right after work. I have to say its a nice chill place to grab a few beers. The food is great! The beer selection is amazing! The service is a bit slow or laid back. We had the blue cheese chips, the boiled peanuts, the grilled cheese sandwich, the chicken wings, the smoked chicken salad sandwich, the funnel cake and the beef cheek pot pie. All the food was good, the beef cheek pot pie was amazing!! The beer selection was equally good with two separate beer flights for draft beers. They also had a good selection of bottled beer and liquor. Although its not brickstore pub, bookhouse pub has its own unique character and is great place to go intown and hang out with friends.

Oh Bookhouse Pub... how I do love thee... So in need of import beer and a decent meal without going to Taco Mac or driving to Little 5, I ventured back to Bookhouse lastnight. Place was packed and luckily my friend and I walked in with perfect timing to two people getting up at the bar. I do love the decor of Bookhouse. Complete with movie inspired, hand carved wood planks that are just cool to look, an eccletic crowd that is ever changing, and just a laid back vibe that seems to make everyone comfortable. We saddle up to the bar and I instantly notice the seasonal beer specials.. "I'll have the pumpkin ale please"... Thus begins a night of 5 different beers that get stronger the later I go. My favorite was the Belgian Fat Tire Ale. Not too hoppy, but not too smooth.. Enough bite to make you remember it. As usual, I must check out the staff to see how the "service" plays out. Luckily, our "sleeved" bartender is friendly, knowledgeable, and yep... you guessed it... attractive. I don't know why, but tattoos are sexy sometimes... even in excess on women. Just my honest opinion though. As for food, I ordered the Sweet Potato Wrap again... Yep, creature of habit. I did change up though and get the side salad with Tomato Vinaigrette. Must say that I do like the combination of radish slices in a salad. Not too shabby. Back to the wrap though. Something was different and better about it this time. It had a spicy element that I haven't noticed before. The combination of that with the spinach, sweet potatos, and sour cream was superb. This place will never get a 5 star out of me, but I just don't think a pub ever should. Still a great place and will be a monthly stop off, if not more. Sweet Potato Wrap is all you need to know. And I don't even like sweet potatos. I actually think…

Avoid the locavore Monday specials. They entrees are underportioned even for tapas, and the cauliflower I had was carbonized and greasy (protip: if you're gonna make a veggie the star of your show, then get it right.) To make matters worse, the floor was ridiculously understaffed. Go for the regular menu items and the booze, but you might want to find another Monday night place... The saltrock lights, cheesy totem head stained glass, and the maple-syrupy varnish staining almost…

Mmmmmm boiled peanuts + beer = happiness. The BookHouse Pub is a pretty cool place. Has a local Pub feel and is very clean and well decorated. The service is great and their menu will satisfy nearly everyone. The only thing that I did not like were the tvs since they seemed to be out of place.

Yelp helps in a lot of ways, but then sometimes it seems like Yelp is full of confused hipster kids. This place is not great, at all. The service is typical slow, am I even here, who's the waiter, dive bar-ish service with drinks at regular price. The only good thing this place has is a small bit of ambiance. You should go here if:1. You wear flannel shirts, moccasin shoes, tights, hats of the knit kind, bohemianesq clothing of any kind, dreads fit in here too. Really any dirty "I'm broke.. except for the money my parents add to my checking account" look will do.2. Number one was sufficient.

I want to love it, I really do. The concept is cool and I love the look and feel of the place. Yet, you always fail me on some level, Bookhouse. Slow service on occasion. A menu I fucking hate. Your only saving grace is the beer. But there are better gastropubs with better offerings around. I do appreciate the fact that I only have to walk about 20 feet to get to MJQ. Bookhouse, I say all of this for constructive purposes. I do not want you to go away. Please just get a little more interesting.

The food here is delicious, though I get the idea that few people actually show up here for the food. The beer and alcohol is where it's at!The selection here is decent enough. It's not Brick Store, but then again, not many places are. The beers they do have are pretty awesome, though, and I love the sampler. Pick how many beers you want to sample and you pay based on how many you chose. Get enough friends to get the sampler and you could in theory try them all. Trust me, been there, done that! They also carry sweet tea vodka, which is my new vice. Vodka meets sweet tea? My southern heart has skipped a beat! Unfortunately, upon ordering this once "on the rocks" - yeah, I like my vodka unmixed, please! - the waitress looked confused before handing over a tall glass full of vodka. I figured that's the way they do it around these parts (it was MJQ night after all) until my friend asked if that was right for on the rocks as if to quiz her. He finally explained what it actually meant and she took it away and brought back a smaller glass. Some friend, huh?! Ah well, at least I snuck a number of gulps before she snatched it up... It is a strike in my book, though, to make the drink incorrectly and then throw the liquor away. Did college teach you nothing? Never leave a man down! The decor here is similar to Brick Store although a little more inviting and open. The upper shelves are lined with - what else? - books, and the outside patio is comfy and well lit. Being able to watch as MJQ folks spill out into the parking lot and fight over parking spaces and spilled beers? Priceless.Aside from the liquor mishap - which is partly to blame for my star deduction - Bookhouse Pub is a pretty sweet place. Good food, generally good service, and great beers on tap.

The BookHouse Pub is a pretty cool place. Has a local Pub feel and is very clean and well decorated. The service is great and their menu will satisfy nearly everyone. The only thing that I did not like were the tvs since they seemed to be out of place.Avoid the locavore Monday specials.
