Tongue Groove Reviews

First of all the pretty boy bouncer will only let you in if you let him Pocket $20 bucks from you. I literally saw this guy pocket $300 in 30 Minutes. They hold the line up making you think the club is packed when it is not. They hate Asian People. I was trying to get in one night and the bouncer told me and my girl to wait then came to us 10 minutes later to tell us it was a private party which made no sense. This place might last a few more months but they owner is terrible and the bouncer at the front needs to be removed. I was not sure but now that I read the comment about the club being raciest towards Asian people I agree. I am a white person and I could really see when Asian people came to the door they would have a weird look or not give them a full response to there question.

I think this place has been around a while. Tapping in to my memory, I understood it to be a "good" dance club. Upon entering, the music was jammin' and the worldly crowd was groovin'. After giving up the coat (btw, they chard $4 per coat at coat check) and landing a libation we were off to the dance floor. One room was strictly hip hop so we boogied on to the next room. One Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Black eyed peas song later they were playing exclusive hip hop in both rooms. Well, I think I missed the boat on dancing to hip hop - a more lyrical music form - so we were bummed. But with a $10 cover and $4 coat check, we were not about to leave. We grinned and beared the beats.

after Daniel's story, you definitely won't see me in that dreaded club anymore.

Some girlfriends and I rushed to Tongue and Groove last night, which was free admission for ladies before 11. Before long the place was crawling with loads of fashionable patrons in their mid to late twenties. The first room was filled with familiar hip hop songs, while the back section had a DJ creating interesting beats. My favorite thing about this club was the variety of people and the guy ---girl ratio (in our favor, ladies). There was every kind of person you could think of: the stylish guy with makeup and more hair product than my girlfriends and I combined, the overgrown frat boy in the business suit, the really, really old guy, the girl not wearing much more than her underwear, etc. Honestly I am unable to stereotype the crowd because it was such a mix. While I had a fun time, Tongue Groove is not my favorite place. The music is mediocre, and the club is not very spacious. The cover charge varies from night to night, so definitely check out the info on their website before making your plans for the evening. Once inside, drinks are pricey - $9 for a mixed drink. Be willing to drop lots of cash. The interesting crowd makes up for all this to a certain extent. Overall I rate it a solid three out of five.

Tongue and Groove is a cool alternative to the larger club scene in Atlanta. If you are looking for a place that doesn't have an obvious VIP line and a "we will make you wait until we are good and ready" one try this spot. The times I went though I didn't go to dance, primarily because I don't normally get my groove on in places with a hard to find or indistinct dance floor. The time I went it must have been ladies night or something because they were giving away free massages in the corner. It was a little strange getting rubbed down with the latest top 40 beat pounding in the background, but despite being a sound intense spa service it felt good. This isn't a spot I would say is on my regular list of hangouts, but it is worth checking out.

I had an event at Tongue Groove recently, and it was easily one of the best events we've had. The entire staff was helpful and nice, going out of their way to help us. I LOVED the decor, and all of our attendees had a blast, saying they'd gladly go back. Definitely a great place for a private event!

So we went to the new Tongue and Groove on Friday night. We were all excited about our visit, but what do you know, its looks just like Lotus Lounge used to look like. They have not done anything interesting to the place. At least Lotus had 2 rooms with different music, now the place is much smaller and a lot of people. Bartenders are great, we never had to wait for our drinks!

I'm not sure how it got such a stellar reputation, it's fun, but definitley not the best time. The set up is good though- big dance floor, center bar, and a lot of lounging areas (and you don't have to pay to sit).

Went here on a Saturday Night..pretty neat concept with the private pink booths with full waiter service saves on having to go to the bar each time, However..this is definitely a club for the 18-25 age group ha! My husband and I are in our early 30s..and felt REALLY out of place! Music a bit too loud for my taste too.

The new Tongue and Groove is the old Lotus Lounge, not much different from what it used to be. The decor is much cooler and urban. Love the music on Thursdays, and the place is usually crowded on any given night. The place does try to be a little too posh sometimes-- this is NOT Vegas.

I can not believe what happened on Saturday night. It was my friends' birthday party and we went to TG, but a bunch of our friends couldn't get in because they were Asian! The bouncer/staff said something like the asian ratio was already too high that night....wow. since when public places required quota? And since when racism and discrimination is practiced again so openly and shamelessly in the society?we never going there again and i hope anyone with a sense of dignity and slight moral value will boycott this racist place. it wasn't even that great anyways. The layout is inconvenient for dancing and meeting other people, the songs were old and lame. and most people were old and creepy so you probably don't want to meet them anyways.

Tongue and Groove seems more like a bar with a lot of class than an establishment labeled as a dance club. Which I really don't mind considering my days of making a fool of myself on the dance floor are over, for the most part. Okay, okay, I do get a little crunk every now and then. The last time I was there I remember spending lots of money and having a pretty good time. The DJ was playing some old school hip-hop that brought me back to the good ole' days of highschool.Despite this place being ridiculously and almost over the top expensive, I really like the crowd that gathers here. It is mostly people in their mid to late 20's, because they only allow individuals over the age of 23 in the door. This keeps out the 21 year old riff-raff who have net yet developed the art of holding their liquor : )

NO. I liked it when it was Lotus Lounge better.

What started out as a night of celebration for 3 birthday friends, turned out to be a racial intolerance of Asian people at this local "hot spot" we were told by the bouncers that they needed to create a balance in the club of a 1 to 5 ratio of Asians to Americans. While droves of "Americans" waltzed right in we were denied entrance because of our ethnicity. The "owner" claimed he was willing to lose $30K a night than let our kind in.I used to be a proud US Citizen, but after last night, I am having major second-thoughts. Please beware of this place, make sure if you want to hang out and have a good time there that you CALL AHEAD to check the ratio before you get there and are denied entrance.

Latin night here just seemed to miss the mark!! Decor is chic and the drinks...well were par. I would problaby try it again this summer

Lovely space. Front door guy was a little aloof and LA, but whatever. Bartenders downstairs were friendly. Bartenders upstairs (the tall hot blonde ones) were more interested in getting hit on than serving drinks and getting a good tip for actual service.Music was awesome. Great DJ last night. :)I knocked them a star because they don't carry Fernet on the shelf. What kind of full service bar is this place, anyway? Get with the program - Fernet is making a comeback baby!
by Bobby G.
Why go to bed when you can have another drink? I probably go here way more than I should, but it's always a good time. Great bartenders and music. Watch out for the Bobberazzi!

Went Friday May 8th and it was pretty good. The first time I went it was still transitioning from Lotus and needed a lot of work. Now its up and running.Pros: -Free parking in parking structure.- had a crowd but wasn't crowded. just right at around midnight when I showed up.-above average music. not straight top 40...or DJ Ipod. Wasn't anything that blew me away but I remember thinking it was pretty good.-have seperate techno room(I don't care for it but know some do).-overall set up is real nice. definitely going for the trendy look and does so pretty well. Has an upstairs.-multiple bars provide pretty fast access to dranks.-diverse mix. white/black/asian...unfortuantely few latinas... :( haha. -girl guy ratio was solid as well. You will find a handful of girls you fnd smokin fellas. guaranteed. Ladies, good looking guys like me are there so you are in luck too! ;)-drinks were typical club price but were strong. and came in a glass no plastic cups here.-lots of tables/couches/seating areas for people who want table service.Cons: -$20 cover is crazy and is the reason I've only been twice. $10 I can handle but $20 is steep. You might be able to do a guestlist before 11pm route. not sure, check website.-They are one of those spots that "creates" the line...mos def. Although if you are a hot girl you can walk right in (which is fine by me). fellas expect to wait 10-15mins.-they enforce their dress code pretty hardcore. guy in front of me got shot down with sneakers.-the entire upstairs was 100% asian. seriously, they walked straight in and went upstairs and never came down. Similar to Primal...not sure what the deal is with the self segregation, but I'm not a fan. Get around and mingle people.-dance floor is kind of small. They have a table like up on the dancefloor for some reason and it just takes up lot of space. they need to axe that IMO. But its open enough in other areas that you can pretty much dance wherever.Overall its a good spot. If cover wasn't as much I'd go more often. That being said I'll probably starting going more often this summer regardless. I have a friend that lives within walking distance(its at lindbergh) so a heavy pre-game and small tap is doable. and there is a marta stop so I can pick up my car the next day easy.

I went here for a birthday party last night, Friday night. It was not bad, did not live up to the hype, but then again I have not been on Thursday yet. Drinks a cover were a tad expensive, but the crowd was pretty good, even if a bit suburban. I'll go back again.
by Maggie L.
They get another star for hosting awesome electronic music on Friday nights at the moment. I may have even promoted the rating to three stars, but can't fathom why it took a line of less than 10 people 35 minutes to get inside right after 11PM. No, it wasn't crowded. I guess the people working the door are just that effing stupid, cause people were leaving the inside because of how "dead" it was. Way to go, TG! Worked against yourself with that one! Rude staffCrap musicPoor design

I must say this was one night club that was true to their word! Though partying on a Monday night isn't my usual style; I made it my style. The club offers free valet parking, ladies free til midnight, and free martinis for ladies until 1230. I was very, very surprised to see that the club actually fulfilled every single perk that was offered. Not only did I get in free, I partied like it was 1999! The music was upbeat, the drinks were tasty, and the staff was borderline friendly. I gave this club 3 stars, because it was just entirely to many females...my advice to the men if going on Mondays, take a female friend with you, and let her go to the bar to get you some free drinks...OKKKKKKK!

Tongue Groove is sure to disappoint. First off, I think between the time when they closed and reopened, they must have picked up a HUGE ego. Last night, (Thursday) me and 2 of my guy friends were in line and the bouncer said something you may here in Chicago, Miami, NY, or LA. He says, "you guys need to have girls with you to get in". The funny thing is I saw some of the fake Atlanta mover and shakers there who have friendships with Bartenders, so they do not tip well or even go as far to spend to much money on drinks. They just really wanted to be seen. The funny thing is my friend usually never leaves a bar with no less than a $150 tab. So how does tongue and groove plan to make money this summer? As far as ladies, this is not fair and I am sure some form of discrimination, but you have to really be a 10 with a super short skirt to get in judging by the type of women they were letting in.We took our business to Aiko and had a blast.I would give this place two thumbs down
by Amrita J.
So the new Tongue and Groove is where the old Lotus Lounge used to be. Let's just say....the spot was much better when it was Lotus. They tried to upgrade the place, and I just don't feel like they succeeded. So we walk in, and run into the coolest bouncer ever....Mr. Michael and we get our whole party in. Well we get inside and are looking around to see how the place has changed, and what.....around the bar their is a big HOLE around the top of it (where the old lotus used to be surrounding the bar)...... can you say TACKY? I mean really, who revamps a venue only to leave a huge gaping hole above the bar (where most people will be hanging around at a club) where you can see the baseboards and pipes and stuff.Ok well so we move on.....I must say the music was about the only thing that this place had going for them that night. (A Thursday night). The music was great, but the crowd was not my style. It was a much older crowd, I want to say between 30-40. I mean their were a few "youngin's" thrown in the mix, but majority were older.Granted, maybe this was just a bad night to go, but I didn't enjoy myself !!! (And it's very rare that I don't enjoy myself at a club).....LoL

I met the good looking hottie that runs/owns ...whatever the T G at the Lola restroom last year.(is Co Ed communal sinks, you innies!) I was all ready for them to open it up again. Went before when it was Lotus. Mediocre but do-able.Drinks a plus. Bartenders are great, wearing too many clothes tho. Cute bouncers, I wouldn't mind getting SHITTEEEE and getting escorted out by Roger.Check out bartender Chad, dark brown hair and blue eyes. Makes funky mixes! chek out latin bartender too! I did not make up the Stairs. I will save that kind of staircase excercise for when I get casted in Dynasty.Other than that: Sorry. My tongue is stuck out at you T, G. Nothing compared to the original. The space is not inviting and it is non conducive to the salsa and merengue dancing as well as the other funky and GROOVY dancing that took place in the B'head one. The center bar is probably to blame. takes up most of the otherwise usable dance floor. Not much care for this locale. Bathroom attendants really irk me too. I can certainly get my own soap, paper towels or TP.Too bad is in that mall, I do not really have it in me for clubs in strip malls (Velvet comes to mind). Do you?

I hesitate to give TG three stars, versus four. Let's meet in the middle and say I'm giving them a solid 3.5 (if only that were possible). Having been a "regular" (bar-fly, perhaps?) at the old location, I've only been to the new TG three times since they've been open. The first two times I've been, they were knee-deep in renovations, so I still felt like I was in the old Lotus Lounge that had been stripped down. Last night, it seemed as though they were 90% complete on renovations and will soon open the adjacent space next door that connects through the rear of the club in a couple of weeks.Thursday nights are their Ultra-Lounge night, so expect a VERY glam and slightly older crowd. Things start getting packed around midnight, so get there early if you don't want to wait in line. They have also had some turnover with their door staff, so hopefully things will be better on that end. This is the spot where beautiful people go to be seen. For guys, the dress code is Ed Hardy/Afflication shirts, faux-hawks and eyeliner. Girls, make sure you wear your lowest cut top, tightest jeans or shirtest skirt and you'll fit right in. Drinks are strong and fairly reasonable at $8 for a mixed drink. The bartenders are awesome and are always attentive. Music is alternative/pop-ish before midnight and then switches over to hip-hop/mash-ups after midnight. Tongue Groove is back!!!! After having bought the old Lotus Lounge location at Lindbergh, the…

Such hard critics!Okay in agreement with Lotus was much better then new tgwith everything turning into a lounge spot its hard to be too hard,it doesnt cater to the big dance floor as it once did, but the bartenderswill take care of you some are still the same staff...the food took a while, but I was warned, trust the fact I needed itthe buffalo bites were worth itif you go for some drinks maybe some mingling youll be fine ;)

Went on a Thursday night which I believe is hospitality night if I'm not mistaken. I think there was a fair share of strippers in the house. I heard some guy say the Cheetah girls were on their way. Place was packed. I feel this club has a very flawed design. Everyone wants to dance by the bar which doesn't work well. The actual dance floor in back was empty. If they put the club dancers and fire girl in the dance area I think people would follow. It makes it hard to get a drink when some guy that can't dance is blocking your approach. Lots of clumsy drunks didn't help either. People are constantly bumping into you. If you can't deal with that type of atmosphere I would suggest going elsewhere. Heneikens were only $5 which was a plus, thought I would be paying $7 or $8. We got there at midnight and it was a $15 cover. I'd be willing to check it out again sometime.
by steven c.
Not my typical weekend selection, but a group of friends were headed here for Valentine's day and one friend, who wanted to see a special someone, was very keen on going. The $20 cover wasn't surprising, and the drinks were about the price you would expect ($4.50 for beer, $7 for house mixed drinks). I didn't have a great time standing around, and getting bumped into. However, once we found the dance floor beyond the staircase up, we had a lot more fun. I danced for probably two hours straight, and didn't have to worry about taking up too much space.

The new Tongue and Groove is an artfully designed upgrade from its former digs yet its still the same hotspot. The bartenders and staff are by far the best in the city making excellent drinks with minimal wait. The resident DJs and several renowned guest DJs always keep the tunes pumpin and the dance floor packed in the club's two distinctly different rooms. Parking is never a problem. There is ample parking in the nearby parking deck at minimal or no cost or the option of complimentary valet every night.Tongue and Groove is my fav spot in the city and I recommend everyone check it out, you won't regret it!

Salsa night was fun, but the place got crowded very, very quickly. Salsa dancing doesn't work so well considering the good dancers needed a 10 foot radius to do all the moves in. I did have fun at the free lesson, and getting in for free certainly helped. The space is fun and decorated nicely and the well drinks aren't half bad. I just wish there was more dance floor and less bar - the bar takes up more than half of the main room!

The new location of this club and new layout make this place better than the old location in downtown buckhead.. Better safer in my opnion also less police and riff raff hanging around outside, you wont get shot by some disgruntled member of Young Jeezy's crew outside this place.Came here on a Saturday night, the Asian door guy was very friendly and took care of my party, he also had told me it was too late to get in on the guest list and was very apolgetic that we had to pay 20 bucks each to get in this place. The decor and renovations done on this new space are terrific, seems more like a upscale apartment than the typical crappy nightclub exterior. Coming from NYC, I was impressed with these aspects of the club, the fact this place is clean and there is no douche bag door guys gets a thumbs up from me. The downside here(there are a few) is the music was terrible, felt as though I was listening to a terrible top 40 station that only played lady Gaga/Britney Spears and some other terrible pop music songs. The lacking of either HipHop House music is a real downside for me. Maybe if I was 17 and trying to pick up a girl who just had her sweet 16 @ a Highschool dance or if I was looking to put on lip gloss and pick up guys Id enjoy hearing this Top Mix, could be this was a off night and the DJ was terrible. The circle bar in the middle of the main room is super cool, the bartenders here were very friendly and made a damn strong drink. Couple of Patrons later and the music seemed to drown out in the background while a few legions of slutty Southern girls showed up. Crowd here is very diverse, a nice mix where everyone seemed to be getting along and having a good time. The dancer on this particular night below the DJ booth was horrible, she looked like whitney Houston cracked out at the age of 22, not very hot and danced weird. Than some Israeli Harvey Milk started prancing around on the block as well, what a fool. Once these two cut there poor act, the place picked up a bit. The side house music room seems to be a mini club within a club. Better music, but way weirder people. Some fat meatball bumped into me on purpose because his wife was staring at me ( I didnt even notice this unfold) but was tempted to give this clown a muay thai kick to the liver, the crowd was surrounding the bar(shocker) but werent even ordering drinks and it was like walking down Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras trying to get to the bar to order a drink. Disgusted went back to the other side of the club in the main and checked out the 2nd floor. The too floor of this place has a large bar, about 6 banquet tables (for bottle service) and a unisex bathroom(huge buyer of the restroom situation). Managed to hit on a few broads in the bathroom line and also got to survey the crowd dancing and crowding the bar on the main floor from owl perch on the second floor. The waitresses here(hot and scantily clad) were numerous and each were worthy of being first string quarterbacks. Except for this one scare crow looking lady who was about 50, prancing around thinking she is still 25 and hot. I'd definitely come back next time I'm in Atlanta, outside of the music, i like this place and think when filled with the right talent pool it would be quite a good scene. Worst case, have a few drinks, grab a few numbers than head to the Pony for some afterhours. After that you better be slaying some broad in your rental or slamming quesadilla's while laughing at Leroy in a old School Chevy from the drive thru window at Taco Cabana.

I liked this place. Coming from San Diego this place really felt like it was a Southern California fancy club without all of the Southern California fancy douchebags. Or Southern California fancy prices. 7 mixed drinks for $55 (including 3 Red Bull Vodkas)? Yes please! The music was good...all though I wished that I could have checked out the "techno" room more in depth. The main room had the typical Top 40/Rap/Mashup stuff going on which I don't really see as any sort of negative. Big clubs play that because thats what most people want to hear when they go out. Anyway, save your money on Friday nights! Sign up on the guest list and get there before or right at 11! You get in free. It's kind of dead but the place definitely picks up around 12:30.

This place is okay. I went this past Thursday for Southern Hospitality night. The crowd we saw last night was mostly older (25-40ish + some 50 year old guys drooling over the dancer--eww, lol). There are three main areas: the central bar/room, the upstairs balcony, and a side dance room. I liked the music in the central bar area, but the dance floor, if it could even be called that, was smaller than my shower cubicle from the communal bathrooms of my freshmen year. At least with the shower cubicle, I didn't have a flow of people constantly bumping into me and my friends as they worked their way around the circular bar. Despite the lack of dance space, the music was pretty good, so I wondered why they played the same songs twice, which in my book is a big no-no. In the side dance room, the dj played a weird selection of bhangra and other Indian music mixed with the occasional Pitbull. We didn't stay too long. I did see a few hookahs for the clubbers if that's your thing (watch out for the mono and don't say I didn't warn you).Overall, it was not a truely horrible club (e.g. VIP and bottle service seemed alright, clean bathrooms, decent music, etc), but I wouldn't pay $10-15 to get in here. Guestlist is until 11:30 and we did just that. Also, valet was bad (waited about an hour since they lost our ticket and my friend had to describe her car to them). Sorry, but I wouldn't come back anytime given the many other Atlanta club options.

Sorry, but I wouldn't come back anytime given the many other Atlanta club options.I liked this place. It's kind of dead but the place definitely picks up around 12:30.The new location of this club and new layout make this place better than the old location in downtown buckhead.. After that you better be slaying some broad in your rental or slamming quesadilla's while laughing at Leroy in a old School Chevy from the drive thru window at Taco Cabana.Salsa night was fun, but the place got crowded very, very quickly.
