Sahara Reviews

Great food, Understand its changed ownership a few times now. We used to hit the buffet on the weekends. A really good selection. All tasted very fresh. They stopped that for a while but understand its back on. Have not visited to eat Friday evenings, understand that they have a little entertainment in the form of belly dancers. They have a patio if you prefer to sit outside.

I found Sahara through http://Restaurant.com while trying to find a new eatery where I could use my certificate. What an unusual place! This appeared to be a family-run restaurant, and it looked like most of the extended family were there, smoking the Hookah and enjoying the ambiance. The restaurant is very small - just two rooms - and has a comfortable, intimate feel. We sat in the "tent" room (the ceiling is draped from the center to the sides with colored silk panels to resemble a tent). We went after 8 pm on a Saturday night so that we would get to see the belly dancer. I have seen a few belly dancers in my day, and I must say she is the best I have seen -- graceful, artistically creative, and lithe -- and friendly to boot. Interestingly, they also had live entertainment in the form of two young men playing acoustic guitar and singing, interspersed with the belly dancer. We started with the Sahara Hummus (topped with marinated beef and pine nuts) - absolutely outstanding. I had the Avocado Salad (very good) and Lamb Kabob (I was disappointed in this - the lamb did not seem to be marinated and was a bit dry, and the vegetables were basically raw). But my husband had the Chicken Kabob and said it was very good. Our other party members had the Beef Shawarma, which they said was excellent.Although none of us are smokers, we decided we had to try the Hookah. We got the lemon-mint mix, but they have almost any flavor you can think of. I must admit, the smoke was light and smooth, but for me, it was still tobacco and I did not like the taste or feel of it in my throat. All in all, this was a most delightful evening, and I definitely recommend it for someone wanting a unique experience.

Baba Ghannouj, Hummus, Stuffed Grape Leaves.....If all of the above start to make your mouth water, then Sahara Mediterranean Grill is worth a visit. Attached to a Dunkin' Donuts in a quiet unassuming strip mall, you wouldn't think there is anything that special from the outside of this place. But step inside, and you'll feel you've been transported to an exotic locale in the Mediterranean. And the staff is super friendly. Start with the Mezza, a combination of any 5 appetizers for $20. Don't miss out on the ARAYESS - Pita bread stuffed with a bee/lamb mixture and a blend of seasonings. If there are only 2 of you, this will be pretty filling, so just split an entree after that. We had the beef skillet which was very tasty, and left us completely stuffed. My only regret? We were pressed for time and didn't get to try the Hookah. One caveat, the website promises belly dancing on Friday and Saturday nights, which didn't happen on the Saturday evening I visited. But other than that, it's a great place for a leisurely weekend dinner.

The hummus at Sahara is really, really good. As is the pita. I have tried (and enjoyed) the mixed grill. Any dish I have tried with lamb in it is good as well. Next time, I am going to try the Sahara paella. (And yes, it is worth the drive. I live just barely ITP, and this place is a hike for me. I intend to drive out there again.)

Boy did we luck out when we came across this hidden treasure in Roswell, GA.Me and my family were looking to take my dad out for his birthday, and we had originally planned to go to a different Mediterranean place, until we called and realized it had closed down. So there we were, stuck with nowhere to go, at about 7:30 in the evening, starving, and not wanting to drive all the way downtown. So what were we to do?Well I go scrambling on the internet looking for a place, and came across this place. Looked decent, so we gave it a try......I was a little worried when we pulled up, b/c it looked like a small place with not a whole lot going on.This is when my nerves kicked in, because as you guys may know from personal experiences, when you suggest something, and it is horrible, you will NEVER hear the end of it from your family, friends, whoever you may be with. So I was a bit worried.Well Sahara, you did not disappoint, that's for sure. My entire family agreed it was one of our most fun birthday dinners out. We started off with one of the hummus appetizers, and then got one of the chicken shwarmas and then a lamb dish, and they were all so delicious. The lamb was so tender, and not chewy like you sometimes find. We also ordered a hookah, which was good fun!It is small though, but they were catering for parties during the evening as well. So you might want to call ahead if you are taking a large group. The prices are comparable to any Mediterranean place you may go to, but unlike the places downtown, you probably won't have to wait for hours to get a seat here. They even have belly dancers on certain nights..... Great Experience, and will definitely be returning!
