Fanoos Persian Cuisine Reviews
by Jamil M.
Fanoos is a fairly well hidden treasure on Roswell Road. I ran across this place by accident. On entering through the nondescript entrance you are transported to a middle eastern style gathering hall filled with well decorated walls, carpeted sitting areas, and normal dining tables. Both times I have been to here I have enjoyed high quality Persian food and tea. I have not tried all of the deserts here but I can recommend the Rosewater and noodle ice cream (I can't recall the Persian name for it), which is by far the tastiest dessert I have ever had (yes, even better than baklava). The manager / owner was nice enough to come greet us at the table, ask us how everything was and encourage us to come back and visit. Note, I have only been here for lunches on Saturday so I am not sure how it is at night. Judging by the size, I'd assume it's fairly busy.

I'm not really sure why I'm the second person reviewing this place because it really is a bad ass place. Apparently their buffet is really awesome but we went for my bro bro's birthday, and everyone was impressed.I recommend that you go with at least 10 people and sit in one of those huge bed things. It's basically a big pit covered by a Persian rug and tons of pillows. Perfect for chillin with your friends and smokin hookahs. As far as food, we ordered the appetizer combo which included hummus, a tatziki type yogurt, stuffed grape leaves, and this meat dip. All were awesome but the hummus was a little runny. I'm not sure if that's how they like it in persia =) but I was game! Apps came with freshly baked bread... similar to naan. Very warm and fresh!!!!! This place is known for their bread. And for entrees, we ordered beef and lamb barg....bombs, shish kabobs... great but kind of dry, and lamb kabob....bombs. Everything was great! Go on friday or saturday b/c they have belly dancers, and just enjoy and relax with your friends.

I feel a little bad putting a three star up after these glowing 4 star reviews. I was a little disappointed. The Good: that bread they serve is amazing. We also had some of the best humus EVER. That stuff was a 5-star, for sure. GREAT server who was honest when we asked about the soup of the day when she said "It's chicken noodle soup. I can't recommend it." LOL. When do you hear THAT? We also loved our groovy booth with a table the size of a queen-sized mattress. The Average: we shared the eggplant and beef stew. It was okay, tasted more like my mom's brisket...and since I'm Jewish, and we came from the middle-east at some point, i guess that makes sense. But it was bland and boring in a watery kind of broth it cooked in. Very average. Our friends order the Chicken Barg every time they go and they sayit's great but we didn't try it.So, I guess they get a 3 and maybe I shoulda given them a 2.5 but it's their lucky day.
