Al Hilm, in the location of the former Vienna BG, has the foundation to succeed Casbah as the de facto Lebanese and hookah spot.  Located across the street from Burger King, one block south of Walkers and Park Place and two blocks from Kickbacks, King Street can easily become what Bay Street has been trying for years. The crowds are not in the same league as Casbah, but the place is nicely appointed, the music appropriate and not intrusive and the staff dedicated to making each visit pleasant while allowing your party to enjoy the experience. The food is delicious, provides better value and taste than Casbah and is authentic without adding cover-up ingredients to mask mediocre food.  Everything from the hummus (save the meat variety--yuck), to jibneh, shwarma, grape leaves, falafel and tabouleh generally is ordered for tasting as a complement to the hookahs.  Even the lamb plate, which boasts 3,000 megacalories a serving, is cooked with as much authenticity and a much needed change to the Jacksonville foodie scene.  Menu substitutions are allowed, not frowned upon, and prices are not adjusted for the difference.  Another testament to the focus on the customer, not the bottom line. The tobacco offerings are extensive as are the filters, though I'm not sure who would have an appetite whet by a beer filter.  Honey with mint and a milk filter is my favorite.Mondays and Tuesdays offer hookahs starting at $7.99.There is a couch corner and two booths constructed by the owner on the opposite corner.  Regular tables and chairs occupy the rest of the space.  The owner's vision includes more lounging areas and booths, but rightfully depends on profits. So, if you are fan of the Casbah, try the place out with an open mind.  Should you be short on cash, try something different on Monday and Tuesday for the reduced hookah prices.Keep in mind Casbah food is not the standard for which all Lebanese/Middle Eastern food--it's only because that is what Jacksonville natives who haven't traveled know.  Each person's approach and taste palette/desired flavor profile is different so appreciate it for what it is.  You will be happy we have this gem in Riverside.
