My friend took me out for a night on the town and even though we had a great time at every other restaurant that we picked at random, I picked mediterranean one night and ended up sort of regretting it. Layla's is apparently the only one of it's kind in Jacksonville and while it has all the physical qualities of a mediterranean restaurant with it's color scheme, it's menu, hookahs and pillows, the menu definitely lacked in authenticity.I ordered baba gannouj that tasted something like the Safeway or Publix brand baba gannouj I normally get. We tasted nothing remarkable or interesting about it and hoped for better from the entrees. For dinner we shared a lamb kabob plate and beef shawarma. The lamb kabob was grilled and seasoned to perfection and served on a bed of long grain rice. The beef shawarma was dry to point of needing more than 2 iced teas and we ended up just sharing one entree instead of two on account of how bland and tasteless the beef was. The idea and decor of the restaurant is fantastic but it's trying to be too many things at once and obviously trying to please too many different types of clientele. Buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks and cheese pizza shouldn't really be on the same menu as my fatoush salad and kabobs.
