Literally BEHIND this corner in Plantation Cross Road Plaza, along Sunrise Blvd near University Dr, you'll find a hidden Middle Eastern enclave. You'll find a hookah bar, restaurants, market, traveling agencies and other services. The food at Al Salam was alright. The makdoss (stuffed baby eggplant with walnuts, red pepper and garlic for $4.99) was good. Also, the lamb shawarma was good, but if I had to choose between their fantastic chicken kabob ($8.99) and the lamb shawarma ($4.99), then let me just say "Chick-Fil-A, lamb go bye bye!"However, be aware that the sides were largely mediocre. The simpleton salad that came with the platter was not noteworthy. The tabbouleh ($4.99) was okay, and definitely better than the simpleton salad, but it was not the best I've had in South Florida. This place is popular and packed, despite the fact that it is out of sight from the streets should you be looking for this place by car.The service was inconsistent. Other waiters and waitresses around the restaurant seemed to be prompt, but I was not lucky. My guy was absolutely horrible in checking the table after the food had been served. I had to flag him down at least 3 times to refill my water, and the check did not come until 2 hours after the start of the meal. I was just lucky I had a companion that was interesting enough to chat with throughout all this time! The market itself was well stocked and had several things. However, there are better Middle Eastern markets to go to.Restaurant hours: 11 am - 10 pmMarket: 9 am - 10 pm

Truly one of the best halal eatary around in Plantation. We've been back numerous times and were never once disappointed, not with the food at least. The place is usually packed on the weekends with families and it can get a tad noisy if you're looking forward to having dinner in peace, not great date restaurant I'd say but if food is all that matters, then go for it.My ultimate favourite is the chicken shawarma or the mix grill combo while hubby swears by the grilled chicken (check the sauce they slather on that chicken out, truly out of this world) each time we dine here. For sides, stick with their spiced rice offered with the meal,it makes an ultimate combination with whatever they offer on their menu.Do be warned however that parking is scarce especially on the weekends so do make your reservations in order not to be disappoined.

Al Salam, the great almost. The food at Al Salam is hit or miss. The Shawarma and Falafel never disappoint. The fool (beans with garlic and lemon) were surprisingly spicy, so I couldn't eat it. I wish I would have known that from the description on the menu. The fatoush (salad) was terrible, as was the tabouli. The restaurant itself is a bit bare, but has Arabic music television playing on the TVs. The service is good, but not great. I usually have to flag down my waiter if I want beverage refills. Prices can't be beat. Al Salam is a good place for lunch or a casual meal. Stick with the specialties and you will be happy. There is also a small market attached.
