Andy's Mediterranean Grill Reviews
by LJ
I wrote the review about this being the worst restaurant I had ever experienced, but don't look at the hookah rating - wouldn't register when I voted. I wouldn't even give this place one hookah, yes it is that BAD.

Don't waste your time and money here. This is the WORST Mediterranean restaurant I have ever experienced from the horrible service to the horrible dry food. We had reservations - still had to wait along with several others with reservations then they put us all in the HOOKAH lounge to eat. Nothing like eating facing strangers 4 feet in front of you as uneasy with the situation as you while sitting elbow to elbow at a 2 foot by 1 1/2 foot table. Like eating of a TV tray for one. No silverware, napkins or condiments on the table had to ask for them or get yourself from the front of the restaurant. Ice tea had no ice and was not given any sweetner - had to go after. Waitress was extremely rude to all she waited on, later saw from webstie that she is one of Andy's relatives. Never received a refill on beverages, nor was asked, tried to ask for one but waitress ignored not only our table but everyone she waited on. Humus and pita bread were below par - how can one mess up humus? When served entree, no sauce, asked for and the waitress acted like we were from some other planet - siad they don't serve sauce. Insisted we needed something - she brought what appeared to be sour cream - very bland - no taste. What's with the stack of pickles and chunks of tomatores on the ends of the plates? This wsa the dryest kabobs we have ever eaten, plus there were suppose to be several meats, all tasted the same. My spouse had asked when making reservations, if there was parking - told across the street - across the street is a lot with plenty of tow zone signs. Parking is only on the street and you will be lucky to find any - be ready to walk several blocks. Don't even attempt the bathrooms - no locks and no doors on the stalls. I think this restaurant goes on the list of not only the worst mediterranean restaurant I've
eaten at, but the worst overall restaurant!!!! This place should be shut down!!! Where and when did those reviews get written that are on the wall and the website - were they paid to write them?
ANY PLACE WOULD BE BETTER THAN ANDY'S MEDITERRANEAN GRILL!!!!

Andy's is one of those places where I don't really have anything good to say about it, but I don't have anything bad to say about it either. It's not great Mediterranean cuisine, but I can't recall ANY great Greek, Turkish, Lebanese, etc. restaurants that I've been to in the U.S. Like Thai cuisine, this is the type of food which is really helped by the freshness of ingredients and making the food when it's ordered. Andy's has a nice patio and you can smoke a hookah, if that's your thing, but the service and food are middle of the road.

One of my favorite places to go for lunch. Good food and good service. Especially nice if you're looking for something unique. I can't think of any place in Cincy that quite like it.

Dry Dry Dry - the food is DRY! The Labneh is wonderful - but literally - I wish I had just had that and nothing else. I got the grilled veggie kabob and they were shriveled and dry - oh the eggplant was awful! My friend got the steak - cheap piece of meat that was NOT worth $20! The $7 Labneh is fabulous! Get an order of that to go and be done with it! The patio was cute - pleasant seating. The waitress was awful - it was about 20 minutes between stops for her!

I really liked this place. It might be the pretty waitresses, it could be the oasis of relaxed rustic decor in this area or it could be may amazing shish tawook (as described as "Winner of the Best Entre Award - Taste of Cincinnati") which was juicy and tender and marinated in a lemony herb baste. The only thing I would add would be yogurt sauce to give the chicken a contrasting bite.Eva was efficient and attentive on a Sat night so I disagree about the earlier review about poor service. We sat upstairs and weren't left alone for long, including company from the bellydancer ;)Come here if you like Mediterranean style food. I've never been to Cincinnati before but with the help of Yelp I felt like a local and also considered Bistro Jean Ro and Pomilio's for dinner on Sat night.

Craving good Mediterranean food, and hearing the NPR Commercial for Andy's in my mind, we headed over to Walnut Hills to give Andy's Mediterranean Grill a try. We went for lunch on a Saturday and the place was empty. I don't know the history of this place, but I can imagine someone picking this location in the 70s, and having the funky, rustic renovations done, thinking that this area was up-and coming. Well, I wish the neighborhood would have thrived, and I wish I liked this restaurant.I was first disappointed with the homemade mint tea. I was then disgusted by warm (I mean, warm soup kind of warm), sour stuffed grape leaves. I had been craving stuffed grape leaves like I've had in the past - cool, olive oily, savory and slightly sweet. I was completely thrown by the warm, sour grape leaves. I actually wondered if they were bad, and felt gross after eating them. A falafel wrap and hummus were not disgusting, but not really good, either. Even the pita bread tasted like it had been frozen. It was dry and bland. Maybe we just hit the place on a bad day, but I won't be back anytime soon.

If you're going to call your Mediterranean place "Andy's", you have to be confident that the food will make up for a name that doesn't exactly inspire authenticity. And its streak of "Best Mediterranean Food" awards shows that the menu overcomes the bland Americana of the name.Anything that's grilled is really grilled; lots of charred spots, especially on the excellent various shish kebobs (I suggest the Kharouf, which is lamb). There are the staples: hummus, falafel, baklava, and rice with everything. They have a nice stable of beers and wines, including a house wine from Lebanon (the real one, not the one north of the city).Prices are certainly higher than most other Middle Eastern restaurants in the area, but the quality and presentation show why Andy's is a step above the rest. They've become so popular that you can now buy Andy's marinade and dressing bottled.Sadly, the real reason for going has passed on thanks to Smoke Free Ohio. You'll have to find your hookah elsewhere. (And please tell me where that is.)

I went a few times in high school and my Dad and Step Mom had their rehearsal dinner there - my step mother's family knows Andy. I definitely love their hummus and pita; so good! I am not a Mediterranean connoisseur, but I definitely genuinely have enjoyed their food over the years (and im not just saying that because my family knows the owners!). The back patio is great and I love how seating is multi-leveled.Know your countries? I believe they still have a daily board by the bar and if you can guess the three countries correctly you get a free appetizer or meal special. Trust me, it is hard!Don't miss the belly dancers, either!

Andy's has great middle eastern food and a great atmosphere! The chicken shawarma and the kabobs are amazing.

The food is good, but don't try to get takeout for lunch. I called 15 minutes ahead of time, went to pick it up and then waited there for another 30 minutes. When I went for dinner, the music was so loud that we couldn't talk. Again, good food, but the atmosphere is a bit awkward. Also, so many stairs that if you are on crutches or in a wheelchair, you should probably forget it as the bathroom is up the stairs and no ramp is in sight.

I'm crazy about a few things at Andy's and totally meh about the rest. Labneh, hummus, baba ganoush, falafel, kibbeh, all amazing! love, love, love. I'm not much of a wrap person, so I ordered the shawarma over rice, but regretted it once it came out. It would have been very tasty with the chicken, rice, tahini, pickles, etc all jumbled up in a wrap, but having all the items individually scattered on my plate was not as yummy. The kibbeh, wrapped or not, is also very good. I've gotten the falafel platter before, and really enjoyed it.I'm not huge on Mediterranean food, and am not sure I've ever been to a really top notch Mediterranean restaurant, so I don't have a lot of basis for comparison. The vibe at Andy's is nice, and now that I've found a few things I really dig, I'll probably just keep ordering those. The down side is that the bathrooms and much of the seating are up some stairs, so if you had any type of mobility issue, this would be a terribly inconvenient place to go. Maybe there are some bathrooms downstairs too, but I didn't see any.
