ok so apparently service STILL hasn't gotten better. falafel sandwich was still good, but they have some serious efficiency issues.waiting 20 min for a sandwich is NOT good service. That plus the fact that they have 5 people just "standing" at the counter. Makes no sense. Can be cheap, but pretty good food. Falafel sandwich for $3.50? Sold!Terrible service though. Bad…

I have been to TAZ several times, and although I have had good food in the past, the restaurant has now completely deteriorated.  I had a HORRIBLE experience there tonight.  Our young waiter was completely clueless.  We ordered a bean appetizer that could adequately be described as a bowl of olive oil with some mushy beans.  We sent it back.  Our dinners - the vegetarian moussaka, which was described as fried eggplant with potato, onion, etc., was really just a bunch of potatoes with too much cheese and no eggplant.  It was terrible.  We complained to the waiter and asked for the owner/manager. He came over.  We told him the problem, and then he disappeared.  We never saw or heard from him again.  The waiter told us that the place was very chaotic and overwhelmed.  Needless to say, we walked out.  It's a shame because the place used to be great.  This is the second time I've been there on a weekend night, and the last time was also pretty bad, although not this bad.  If the place is that overwhelmed, they need to hire more people and train them.  I've ordered both of these dishes in the past, and they bore no resemblance to the slop they served tonight.Terrible service in every way.  They even ran out of menus, and the toilet didn't flush.  What a disaster.

I made my way over to Taz Restaurant for lunch, something I've wanted to do for a while. Taz is Lebanese and Greek Cuisine (with a hookah bar at night) and the décor of the restaurant keeps up with the theme. I sat in a "booth," which was really a Middle Eastern (although almost South American-looking) couch, and the wall decorations and window curtains were representative of Middle Eastern culture as well. Middle Eastern music was also quietly being played, a nice addition to the atmosphere. The menu had many sandwiches (chicken, lamb, or beef wrapped in pita), primarily priced at $4.50, entrees ranging from $10.50-$21.50, a few veggies entrees and soups, and also seafood and sizzling fajitas. Taz also has a wide selection of hot drinks (Regular, Green, Mint, and Sage Tea, American and Turkish Coffee, and hot chocolate), as well as cold drinks including various juices and smoothies. I was stuck between a Falafel Sandwich and a Gyro Sandwich, but I wisely went with the Chicken Kabab Sandwich combo ($3 extra for a side of rice or fries and a soft drink) instead. The Chicken Kebab was quite big and filling for the price of $4.50, there was plenty of chicken, and the cucumber sauce was really great (there were other veggies in it too). There was also hot pita bread that came with the food which was very good too.The service was fine, nothing spectacular but not bad either, but I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. There were a good number of people for a Thursday afternoon lunch around 1 p.m. but I bet it gets pretty busy on late Friday and Saturday nights. I definitely look forward to coming again in the near future and although I like to try different things, I'll probably stick with the Chicken Kabab.

I go to Taz regularly with co-workers because the food is amazing. They have delicious (not to mention ridiculously oversized) gyros, and the hummus is phenomenal! Their salads tend to have too much dressing, so I advise getting it on the side. The service is almost always terrible, so we typically call ahead and place our order before arriving or get carryout... But the food and the price are enough to keep us coming back for more!

I was in Mason this past weekend for the tennis tournament and stopped by Taz at Yelp's recommendation. I was not disappointed! As other reviewers noted, the classic gyro sandwich is a very good selection. My wife is a huge middle eastern fan and she really enjoyed the falafal sandwich. Unlike other reviewers, I thought the service was just fine -- though our waiter did seem a little strange. The prices were also very reasonable. Our total for dinner was around $20.

Ate here for lunch and the food was good.  Strange looking restaurant. Portions too large for my taste.

Great food overall where i recommend any of the sandwiches or oudsiya (I think that's what it's called...is hummus with tomatoes and other stuff).  Great value for the food...definitely can get full with less than $10.  I enjoy the atmosphere and the couches too.  Only drawback is the service, which can be slow sometimes during dine-in (or when the restaurant is busy) and is always slow for takeout (don't recommend this place for takeout at all).

**This review is for late night dining / Hookah Bar experience only**I regularly make my way with a group of friends to Taz to enjoy their hookah bar service.Any review of the service late at night would not be complete without a complete explanation of the atmosphere. The outdoor hookah area attracts a large younger crowd, and it seems mildly chaotic. However, this crowd is here for the hookah bar almost exclusively, so it's what you would expect. Considering the crowd the restaurant deals with at night, service is excellent. For the hookah experience, simply sit down on the outdoor tables, and you will be greeted by a smiling server. The smiling server will hand you a hookah menu, and glasses / a pitcher of water.... if you're lucky (some servers forget this sometimes). The server will return in a bit to take your order. After you place your order, it will be about 5 to 15 minutes to get your hookah, depending on how busy the restaurant is.Some servers seem to have a language barrier, however they're always responsive. Depending on the server you may have to call the server over for assistance. I'd reccommend simply being vocal about your needs. They will gladly bring you more water, charcoal, another hookah, whatever.. but you have to ask. I also must point out that they are happy to serve late night customers, often beyond their closing time. The servers are always polite and never seem irritated by large crowds or late arrivals. What if you want food?Well.. Who knows.. The restaurant has posted closing times of 11 PM on weekdays and 2AM on weekends. However, I get the feeling (by observation) that the restaurant (food service) closes earlier, and I know from firsthand experience that the hookah service can extend far beyond closing. The one time I have attempted to order food during a late night hookah experience, I had to ask for a food menu, the service was rather slow, and part of our order was simply forgotten, and the bill didn't even include food. During the day service is excellent, but during the night they seem simply unprepared to serve customers food. I would recommend avoiding ordering food late at night.TIPS For Late Night* Seat yourself outside.* Bring a jacket, as it can get cold.* Communicate your needs to servers.* Don't order food late.. it's just chaotic.* Feel free to move around tables / chairs... they never seem to mind.* Order the Taz Blend Hookah at least once, it's excellent.* Know that the crowd consists of mostly college students and high school seniors/juniors, don't expect different.Taz is the only Hookah bar that I'm aware of outside of Clifton. It's a great experience, and I'm a big fan.

Solid dining experience.  Great food, fantastic prices, and unexpected atmosphere. We ordered the hummus to share, falafel wraps and mint tea.  Perfection!
