You're not going to find anything at Hella's you can't find at other Greek restaurants.  What they do offer, however, is above average in quality and reasonably priced.  The atmosphere is conducive to conversation, the service is fast, and there's rarely a wait to be seated. The gyros are good size and the hummus is tasty.  If you do get hummus, make sure to ask for extra pita bread as they never bring enough with the initial order.   After the meal, stock up on mints because you will reek of garlic.Hella's could improve itself if it wasn't located in the middle of a small parking lot.  An outdoor patio with a hookah bar would be nice but won't happen unless it changes locations.

The 1st time I walked into Hellas Cafe was 14 year ago I had just relocated to Indianapolis. I had been living in the Houston area and good Greek food was hard to find. I grow up in Detroit and had Greek friends who toke me to Greektown. So I was not sure of what I had just walked into that 1st time at Hellas, well it was like going back home! The place is on the small side but the food is on the big side, taste and flavors. It was like going over to my friends house and his gradmother, who spoke no English, make us a meal in their basement. Yes basement must people had a second kitchen in their basements! But the love and care that went into these meals is the same at Hellas.Remember to eat well and live well and please no chains!

I have to agree with Jennifer, the green beans and potatoes at Hella's are some of the best you'll find in town. I think only those at Santorini may rival them. In fact, I often order a greek salad and then just have sides of the potatoes and green beans. Of course, if I'm not on my own, then hummus is a must :-)This is one of my favorite places to stop in after yoga - when I am usually very hungry - and I often get takeout, which typically doesn't require a long wait. I like the coziness of Hella's as well. I do agree with Andy about the parking lot thing - getting in and out of Hella's can be a little awkward when traffic on Westfield Blvd. is at its max. But I think the restaurant would lose some of its charm if it moved to other digs. Outdoor dining, though, that would be great!

Hella's is the kind of place you want to go with your closest friends and family. The atmosphere is friendly, fun and comfortable--just like home--if home were a place you were ably waited on 'hand and foot' and served mouthwatering Greek food. Hella's has heart--how many restaurants are so well connected to their community that they contribute to local schools and churches fundraising efforts?  That same spirit of building a future on traditions of the past is also evident in their tasty authentic Greek recipes. You will quickly develop a list of 'favorites' from Hella's menu. The taramasalata is a dreamy, creamy spread consisting of caviar, lemon juice and olive oil that you will greedily mop up with some of the best pita bread you can get, this side of the Mediterranean. The same goes for the traditional tasty tzatziki--another downright delectable dip. If you know Greek soup, your highest standards will be met with the house Egglemon soup. If you insist on the most popular dish, you will not go hungry--or wrong--with the Gyros platter, your choice of meat or chicken. If you must have something 'special' the frequently featured lamb shanks or cabbage rolls are not to be missed.

Good Greek food on the northside. The green beans and potatoes are winners. Try the tasty gyro plate and you can get both signature items plus salad and pita bread, if I remember correctly. Buttery garlic bread seems misplaced here, but it's still good. Service is good too.

Great service at Hella's. The guy was friendly without being over bearing, he tended to everything I needed, even tried to save me a few bucks. And my iced tea never emptied. The food was great, better than Greek Isle, and I loved every bit of it. The green beans and potatoes are other worldly and the stuffed grape leaves are better than those I've had in the kitchens of my middle eastern friends. The atmosphere is ok, it's kinda a mish-mosh, and the booth I sat in may have been comfortable 25 years ago when it was installed. But out side of that everything was fabulous, I even had to try the baklava, it wasn't all that great but I was still super happy.
