Guess Hookah Reviews

guess hookah is pretty sweet, I buy all my hookah stuff here. the staff is really cool, and knows there shit!

Awesome staff and selection. You can also get a $40 box of nag champa inscense! Warning- if you roll cigarettes, it doesn't matter what is running through your head at the time, you will not be happy with a purchase of Margarita flavored tabacco later! Take it from me.
by Alex S.
Walk-in customers looking to purchase accesories rather than enter/use the lounge area are completely ignored. I gave up on trying to get shisha from there and now I just get it a block away at Sweet Tooth.

hookah bar and tobacco store. great selection of tobacco, pipes, papers, incense, etc. there's also a wide range of hookah tobacco. you can pick something out and smoke it in their bar. cigarettes are reasonably priced and there is a good selection.

this place is sweet. super affordable with a very friendly staff (they even answer the phone in weird voices for fun). the exposed brick is a nice look. they're also BYOB.

This place is awesome! I came in to check out their tobacco flavors and they have the largest selection of favors and brands that I have ever seen! The hardest part is trying to pick one!The owner there is the nicest guy and helped me out so much! This was the best customer service that I have ever experienced. He seriously knows his stuff! He is the smoke ring master! Haha...just ask him if you want to learn how to blow smoke rings and he'll be able to show you how.I didn't get a chance to experience their hookah bar, but I have heard that it gets crazy on the weekends. I can only imagine that it is a blast being that they have an extremely wide variety of flavors!

Great place to hang out. Friendly service, good selection. I had a really great time. My only complaint is the pop music they were playing. Id like to here more chilled out music playing.

I used to love Guess Hookah with my friends a long time ago but over time it has gotten more and more commercialized and the prices have increased while service has gone down. With that being said, if you go on a night other that Friday and Saturday you WILL have an amazing time however I hate coming here when it's jam-packed. The workers, on a night when it's not crazy busy, will pack some of the best bowls you've ever smoke. Oh, and if you're going to buy any supplies this is THE place to do it.

Fun place for a couple or a group, with couches and an outdoor area in the back. They have so many hookah flavors that it is almost overload. Great shop in front with alot of tobacco products, some made in the USA.

This place is Awesome. Everytime I walk into this place, I'm almost hypnotized by the beautiful array of Hookahs. The owner is super cool, and is really honest about what products are great and not so great. It's hard to find that honesty in most places. The hookah lounge in the back is super chill, they have a huge menu of different flavored tobacco and the music is always great. I always have a good time when I come here, might it be just to pick up some tobacco for one of my 3 hookahs, or chillin in the back room.

This place was much better before it moved to its current location. As a matter of fact, every time that I have gone since they have moved it has gotten significantly worse with each visit. I give it two stars instead of one because I will give it one more try before I knock it down to one star. The last couple times I have gone it was infested with little teen aged brats trying to act hard... The music that was blaring overhead was an assortment of commercial RB/hip hop trash. The lighting used to be much better (Amsterdam will teach you what a kind interior is)... just after the move it used to be lit more with candles and soft light shining on the old brick walls bringing out the shiny dark wood floors and other wood details providing a warm organic feel. However, my last couple of visits the interior was awash in tacky pink lighting and none of the candles were lit although the tacky red candle holders were cluttering up the tables. It made me feel like I was at a high school party taking place in a basement or garage. Since I have a smoking device at home, I pay to go to a Hookah joint to enjoy atmosphere and not have to worry about maintaining the hookah. Which was a hopeless case as the service was non-existent after the hookah was brought to the table. ... hmm... well, I don't know if I will go back because I'm not sure if it is worth being disappointing again. Anyway, don't know what the management was thinking...they should have had a free Pedo night to scare the kids away or something.

Great fun for a group night out! Get a bunch of friends, call ahead a day or two and reserve the back room - it's cheap! Bring munchies and beverages of choice, settle down on the comfortable crazy second-hand furniture and let the folks at Guess prepare a couple of Hookah's for you and your friends. Crazy-wacky flavors of all kinds...fruits, herbs (not THOSE herbs!), tastes of all varieties. Pass the pipes around and toke on the cool lit-up hookah while watching a great selection of DVD's, or decent variety of tunes. Great fun, cool smoking (and I'm not even a smoker, quite the opposite actually!), a truly unusual experience.

Guess Hookah is one of those gems in the city that you tell everyone about and they tell everyone about and before you know it, the place goes from somewhat busy to hopping! I've been coming to this place since they first opened at the old location down the street. It's still the same awesome atmosphere and great tobacco selection in the new building. BYOB is a plus, but they also have a pretty decent selection of non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. I've been there on nights when they have an entire spread of all sorts of appetizers and drinks for their patrons! (I think that's when they have artist openings) Either way, it's a great place! Everyone who works there is super cool also. John and Agnes you rock! Thanks for keeping this place going!

Guess hookah is a terrible place to go on a date or even hang out. My server was most unfriendly and there were too many high school students. This place does not compare to other hookah before the smoking ban went into effect (no food, booze or fresh coffee). The one star is for their large selection of shisha.
by Doug S.
Cletus and Agnes are the coolest people in the world. What would happen if the coolest people in the world opened a hookah shop? Of course! It would become the coolest hookah shop in the world! Completely relaxing atmosphere. Some hookah with friends, play a board game, and...BYOB for 21 and up!? I would give it 6 stars if that was possible! Try the exotic mango with watermelon.

My first time to Guess hookah, was just so-so. The ambience was just ok and there was this really bad deejay there who kept bouncing back and forth from Kid Rock to the Beatles, to Train. Still had fun smoking the hookah and drinking our giant bottle of byo wine but the music really killed the mood. I couldn't wait to get home to write my review. But my companion convinced me to wait and give Guess another try before I did. Let me tell you it was definitely worth the wait. Rach and I went on a Thursday night and to my horror it was Bingo night. Normally bingo night sets me to a fussy rage, but not Guess bingo games! I had a great laid back time and the best part was I scored tickets to see Spelling Bee!

Lots of great tobacco flavors. It's hit or miss with the staff, every once and awhile you will get someone who isn't in the mood to help.

Maybe I'm biased because I have friends that do work and have worked here, but I love this place. It's relaxed and the hookahs are always excellent. There are also a nice array of beverages from which you can choose, and there's always fun music playing. One night of the week is bingo night, which is a hilariously good time. In the front, away from the lounge area, they sell anything any smoker of any substance could want. Overall, a great place with quality service.

Everytime I've been to Guess Hookah, it's been great. The atmosphere is very chill and it's good place to go with friends. The couches in the back are really comfy and all of the people that work there are very nice. I also like that it's not insanely overpriced and that they have such a huge selection. I highly recommend going!

i got my hookah here a while back. the guy that helped me over the phone and in person was so very funny and extremely helpful.

Well. What can I say. If you want to really relax with some people... Guess Hookah is the place to be. I'm pretty cheap so, paying $15 for smoking some tobacco is kind of silly to me. I can sit on my patio for a whole day with a pack of $4 cigs from the suburbs. But. I mean, the place in BYOB so thats awesome if you go there with a crew on the weekend. Overall the atmosphere was nice... played some funky tunes and everyone was very helpful. Their retail sections pretty smoker friendly... so check that out smokers.

a hookah bar that features open mic nights and a clean venue with a wide variety of shisha flavors. although i have given up the daily vice of cigarettes, i still enjoy a nice hookah every blue moon. the location is accessible and street parking usually is available within the vicinity of a block or so. i used to pass by this place a few years back when i was working in wicker park and has a lot of accessories for those who enjoy tobacco and other fine herbal products.a chill spot to hang out with a small group of friends it almost feels like staying in at one of your friends houses with the relaxed and down-tempo atmosphere this place gives off. if you are looking for a lo-fi chill evening guess hookah is definitely a spot you and your friends should check out.
by eff s.
went there with 6 friends about 2 weeks ago and had a blast. Showed up at 7pm on a Thursday and had the place to ourselves for about 2 hours. great palce to bring a six pack, have a smoke and hang. if you are new to the hookah thing, definitely talk to the staff and they will be more than happy to help you out. try the rock climber!
by Tisha W.
The new Guess hookah lounge is great! It's a little less intimate than the previous location, but it feels like you are hanging out in someone else's ultra-cool loft. The addition of patio space is great. IMHO, this is the best hookah place in the city: It's cheap, it has a great selection of flavors, it is BYOB, and now it is across the street from two great cheap mexican places.

I had a great time here last night with Martha Z. on our ladies night adventures. The atmosphere is a lot more laid back than Sigara, and we werent surrounded by Bratz doll lookalikes. The guys working here were very friendly and funny. It's BYOB which we enjoyed, and we tried the apple/mint, and coconut/mango hookah combos, both of which were great. They were doing Bingo here last night, which was much less annoying than certain other Bingo games I've been part of, and I won twice. Yippie. I'll definitely be back. They also have free WiFi should you need to net it up while hanging out.

I've only been to the old location once so i can't really compare the two. Whatever the case the guy who owns the place knows how to deliver good customer service. I called there yesturday after they closed and asked if he could stay open ten minutes later so i can stop in.He did. He was helpful and he didn't try just push me out the door. Cool place and good customer service.

Been here a few times in the past with friends and loved the old location! It was very comfy setting and mellow atmosphere; intimate. New Location is not bad but my most recent visit was terrible and i will not be returning. The owner used to always be up front at the desk he was so nice and accomodating and their old servers were great Kirk and a young African-American girl. Very atttentive and polite. My vist last night was lowsy. We sat in the back area our favorite spot cuz it had couches but this time is was a bad area there were several young Teens bumping Hip Hop, Laughing ,Talking on their cellphones ,Cursing ,Smoking like 5 different Hookahs making a lot of noise. Not a great setting. One of whom was the waiter who was not very attentive to us at all i believe he came by once every hour and a half. So we call it a night and get up to pay and the price is not what was posted on their website. We asked why and their answer was because we had 2 extra people come in at the end b4 we left for like 10 min neither of which even smoked! I bet they only charge us more because they had to make up for all the Shisha they smoke themselves! This place has gone to gutter trash!

Really great selection of hookah tobacco. :) It was a lil pricier than what I was buying before, but it is definitely worth it. They have a lounge in back....haven't done that yet, but they said they change the hose for each customer...which is what I like to hear. =)

The music is good, my friend, Will dj's at an increasing rate and his music is far from mundane and ordinary.Play Connect Four while smoking like the caterpillar in Alice and Wonderland. If you're looking for something else, try McGees.
by Timothy M.
Even though I quit smoking, this place is pretty sweet. I like the chill atmosphere and it's a welcome addition to the places to go that aren't bars or restaurants where you can just hang out. Can't comment on the tobacco/hookah selection like I could have earlier this year, but it looked pretty plentiful. Also nice: it's not that smoky in the lounge. Just a bunch of couches and chairs and TVs. And you can bring your own alcohol. Bottom line, come here and chill in someone else's living room for once.
by Jie J.
Great place to "hang out and chill". Guess Hookah is a small hookah shop with a relaxing lounge. I think the price you pay has to worth the quality yuo receive, and Guess Hookah is one of the best example. You pay around 4-6 per person, and you're pretty much doing your own thing. I highly recommend if you're looking for a cheap hookah place just to chill instead of find a hookah place with high quality hookah, Guess will be your top choice.

They have a big sign outside the shop that claims that they sell fine cigars. Frankly I didn't see anything in their small humidor that I couldn't buy at a Shell station convenient store. If I ever start smoking wacky tobaccy out of a Hookah again, I will give it another try, but for now, I will stick to my cigars.

Best hookah bar in Chicago, in my opinion. They moved to a new place in June, so anything previous to June 06 is in reference to their past location. The new location is spacious, clean, well maintained, and comfy - everything a hookah lounge should be! Their service is friendly and prompt, and one great thing - they have games to play! Nothin like bustin out a game of Sorry while smoking a hookah with some friends - I call yellow! And I almost forgot to emphasize how cheap it is! Also, BYOB can't be beat! :)Edited to add: I just went there last night after posting this, and found out they have BINGO every Thursday at 9pm. The guy with the bingo was late to get there last night so they just gave us the prize for the game which was 2 tickets to go see Spelling Bee next week! Score! :)
by Jess S.
The first time I went was last Sunday night to see a friend play acoustic. I had never been here, only walked and driven by. I never realized it was actually a lounge! The interior was so comfy and the staff was really friendly. Sadly, we were broke and couldn't get a hookah.I can't wait to go back with a couple friends and chill. Good times.

A nice assortment of hookahs and related items for sale. We only stopped by to look around and the people (and Louie the dog) were nice. Looking forward to staying for awhile when they move.GUESS HOOKAH IS MOVING JUNE 1st, 2006NEW LOCATION 1829 W. CHICAGO(2 blocks east of our current location)

Great selection of hookahs and shisha, but HORRIBLE service. I bought a hookah here awhile back and had a great experience. Twice now I've gone back to buy more shisha and left empty-handed. Why? Both times the staff have refused to acknowledge my presence in the store, and either looked past me to serve customers who came into the store after me, or blew me off to flirt with a customer. No matter that it's in walking distance of my place, I won't be returning to Guess Hookah - it's a complete waste of time.UPDATE: The owner contacted me offering to make things right, which I very much appreciate. And I do like smoking my hookah, so ....

This is my kind of place. Bob Marley, and then a March of the Dolphins-like movie were playing on the TV (and who doesn't love dolphins?!), up-beat reggae was playing from the DJ, cold beer was flowing into my mouth (Anchor Steam, SF represent! - OK, it's actually a BYOB place, but they did provide a cooler!), large comfortable couches, hip and diverse cientele, and awesome shisha with attentive service (try the citrus mint, it's so refreshing and lively!).The lounge is in the back, and they also have a backdoor cigarette area. The bathroom was clean and decent, and the front sells awesome hookahs and tobacco-related products (and was playing Pinkerton when I left!).

My good friend was in the market for a hookah and we shopped several stores and eventually landed here. This place was great and the guy who helped us, John, was incredibly informative and friendly. I highly recommend cutting the crap of the other stores in the area because this place has great service, selection, and prices.

Hmmm....kinda bummed they moved but the amount of cool accessories is cool. Use to like going to the old location for some tunes and boardgames. The staff is very informative and knowledgeable about their retail.

The Guess Hookah store was legit one of the best experiences I've had shopping in general, not to mention for hookah... and a good hookah store is kinda hard to come by. The owner was awesome! I'd be best friends with this guy if it were possible. And honestly, as often as I plan on visiting him, we might be (and I live a good 45 minutes from the store). He helped me with everything...selecting a hookah, picking out shisha, telling me the quality (and lack there of) of different hookah parts. He really wanted me to have a great experience, not just sell me stuff. The prices of shisha were super reasonable! And the variety of flavors and brands was impressive. You can mix and match hookah parts when you buy so you feel like you've "desinged your own." A free tin of shisha and roll of coals comes with the hookah, and then its a dollar off everything else you buy with the purchase of a hookah. He threw in a free hose since I spent so much, and answered every question in the book I had.If youre looking for a new flavor, or to load up... head his way. The more you buy the happier you'll be... weird, huh.
