Nar Hookah Reviews
by Jill W.
I've been known to spark up a hookah or two in my life. I dig the fragrant tobacco and the exotic culture. And, while this smokehouse has the fragrant tobacco, it really lacks in the cultural experience. It's a bit too sterile for my taste. If I am going to have a chill communal experience with a group of friends, I want comfort and warmth, two things which Nar Hokah unfortunately lacks. The facade is a wall of windows, the hookah shop is blatantly exposed in the entrance, the beige stone floors are cold, and the booths...well, they are booths. Booths are for diners and fast-food Italian restaurants, not a hookah bar where the main point is to lounge, relax, and talk shit. There are, in all fairness, some non-booth and tables, but still not all together confy. I am stoked, however, about a hookah bar opening in my 'hood. I will give Nar Hookah a few stars for breaking up restaurant row a bit and adding a place where I can puff-puff-pass with my crew.

My husband and I went here for a birthday get together for one of our friends and really enjoyed the hookah and the live music. I love Mediterranean music and that is all the live DJ played. They also had a belly dancer and a singer throughout the night which I thought was pretty cool. We also liked that they had a full bar of not too expensive drinks. We tried the candy apple and fruity pebbles tobacco and the fruity pebbles one was our favorite! Overall, a very laid back atmosphere with great hookah and music!

Nar Hookah doesn't have me "hooked" JUST YET. I have to agree with Jill W. Where are the pillows, and what's with the Belmont-like store in the front? It feels like just another bar with hookahs, but it is SO SO close. The Middle Eastern music videos and $10 hookah were great. The staff was SUPER attentive and our hookah was always hot! The Friday night crowd was totally mixed and interesting in itself. Fantastic DJ!

Souk has been closed and is slated to open up down the street from here, but it's been quite some time and was looking for some place new. And then my buddies took me here. And boy am I happy they did! The room was dimly lit and mocha/taupe colored walls, three flat screens playing arabi music, and a wider selection of flavors than some of the smaller places. The people that work there were super friendly and nice. I guess it gets pretty crowded weekend nights like many of the other shisha places, but unlike many of the places up north, they have a liquor license too, always a nice option to have.

Not impressed.I think my experience might have been an unusual one because it was the week of halloween, but I was not impressed with Nar Hookah. The place had an anti-relaxation, anti-hookah vibe...there was a dance floor in the middle with techno lights and a bar, with a few tables with hookah pushed to the side. Maybe some people are into that, but when I think hookah, I think of a chill place with cushions and a laid-back atmosphere..not teeny-bopper dance club with strobe lights. They tried to charge a 5 dollar cover just to get in...I took a look inside and said NO thanks. Maybe I will try on another day, just in case it was one Friday night fluke. But probably not.

i went here when they first opened. the owner was really sweet, and told me about all kinds of combinations you can try with the hookah. fruit mix with a bit of lemon + blueberry with orange crush in the base tastes just like fruity pebbles. he also let me try another flavor for free.personally, i like the storefront, though other people may not, but that's just because i'm from the suburbs and it's nice to be able to pick stuff up. the decor leaves something to be desired though.
