I've been to a few Mongolian BBQs before, this one is pretty good.  Others have a larger selection of veggies, but this one has great sauces and plenty of meats.  Price is pretty reasonable as well.

this place is the perfect example of the food-court-ization of ethnic foods. the atmosphere is an odd cross between beer wings and diluted applebee's. their thing is that you pick your stir-fry and they burn it, I mean, cook it on a big crackling stone slab. the combination of being quite generous with their sauces and firm belief that foods can sit unattended in a scalding skillet for 10 minutes means that everything comes out flavorless and burnt. avoid this shlocky gimmicky suckhole at any cost.

I tried this place yesterday with my brother in law for lunch cause we were both looking for something different to try.  When we walked in we were seated promptly and told we could just go up and get started.  So I have been to Flat Top before and this is what this place reminded me of.  You go up and choose your meat, veggies and sauces and bring it up and have it quickly stir fried right in front of you.  One difference here is that you stand up by the cooking circle and wait for your food to finish cooking, I thought this was pretty cool.  We tried a few combinations of things but our favorite was the strip steak for the meat!  It was so tender and delicious!  The best, by far, that I have had at any of their competitors!  Delicious!!  The chicken was very bland and the ribeye meat was shaved so when it cooked it turned into what looked like Italian beef.  So that was a little disappointing, but the freshness of the veggies and the array of sauces definitely made up for it!  If you are strolling through downtown Naperville and have never tried this place, give it a shot, it is something different and delicious!

High school kids absolutely love this place. I've been there twice and frankly, I just don't see it. The "pick out your stuff and we stir fry it" concept is novel, I suppose. But you know what? It really doesn't taste all that great. It ends up tasting like one of those China Buffet joints - except you get to stand around a hot grill while they cook it. Plus they charge quite a bit for the privilege. Do it once with the kids if you must - but there are much better places for the money.

It smells so good...!  Stir fry you create yourself.  Choose the meat or tofu, vegetables and sauces, take it to the grill and they cook it to perfection.  Great flavors, but don't be afraid to ask for advice, lest you walk away with overly exotic, almost bizarre fare - they also offer recipe cards that serve as a great guide.  I like the upbeat atmosphere, and the service is good - fantastic people.  A chain, but a good one.

I read the reviews, and it reflects how the place is I think.  It's really a personalized experience because it's luck of the draw on pretty much everything.  Most times we went, we found it vegetarian friendly (my husband is a vegetarian, and he hasn't had a problem) but the food/griller can be hit and miss.  The place can be loud and crowded.  We've had overall good experiences there but I can see how it could break bad.  I don't think it's as bad as everyone says here, but it's not as great either.  Basically, it's a bunch of food you get to create yourself at a decent price.

I love making my own stir fry at these sort of places, but Mongolian BBQ is my very favorite place. Here's what sets it apart from other "make your own stirfry bars"1. You actually stand around watching your food being grilled and flipped. There's just something entertaining about it. 2. They have TONS of sauces. And you can mix them however you want (unlike stir crazy or big bowl where you have to choose your sauce beforehand). They even have recipies on little cards next to the stirfry bar of famous mixes people have made before. 3. If you want, you can get rice and tortillas along with your stirfry (if you want to either eat it like fajitas, or with a side of rice). If you opt for noodles, they're at the bar.4. You add your own meat, so really, if you want more meat than vegetables, you have that option here. They also have a really big selection of seafood, chicken, and beef. You can have shrimp and scallops in one stirfry, for example.5. You can get "All you can eat" stirfry for like $2 more than one plate. Even though this seems unnecessary, it's kind of cool to do if you want to try different things. You can make two small ones, for example. Or if you have a big appetite, you can have a few plates! Also good because if you make a bad stirfry, you get a second chance!6. It includes the soup and salad bar with every order. Love this place. It's so good.

I'm assuming you already know (either by reading the previous reviews or just because you are that cool) that this is a Create-Your-Own Stir Fry place.  You can even go online and create your own bowl and they will provide the nutrition facts for your bowl (which I will use for reference for the ingredients they offer)MEAT SEAFOOD....Chicken, Lamb, NY Strip, Pork, Ribeye, Sausage, Krab (the fake stuff), Scallops, Shrimp, CalamariVEGGIES MISC....Bamboo, Bean Sprouts, Bok Choy, Broccoli, Carrots, Chopped Garlic, Cilantro, Baby Corn, Cabbage, Edamame, Jalepenos, Mushrooms, Yellow Onions, Pea Pods, Peppers, Pineapple, Red Skin Potatoes, Green Onions, Tomatoes, Water Chestnuts, Egg, TofuSAUCES....Asian Black Bean, Spicy Buffalo, Chili Garlic, Fajita, Kung Pao, Lemon, Mongolian Ginger, Peanut, Mongo Marinara, BBQ, Shiitake Mushroom, Soy, Sweet n Sour, Teriyaki, Burgandy Wine, Mustard, and Oil Blend (added at the grill)ENJOY WITH....Rice, Tortillas, or Brown RiceOkay so I've been here twice, both times with the girlfriend.  If you couldn't tell by my list above, they pretty much have something for everybody.  The first time that we went I got a little too excited and made 1 giant bowl that pretty much filled me up.  I made a smaller 2nd bowl but didn't come close to finishing it.  The 2nd time that we went I used my aforementioned knowledge and got some variety.  I had 3 different bowls each with a little something different in them to try out.  I opted for the tortillas on 2 bowls and used rice on the 3rd bowl.  Drinkwise...the first trip we both had pop and on the second trip I had a 22 oz. beer and my girlfriend tried 2 different types of their mixed drinks.  We went during dinner time on a Saturday the 2nd time and had to wait an hour to get a table.  While we were waiting for our table we went to the bar and got a drink each ($10.75 with tip.....312 draft for me and one of their mixed drinks for her).  They couldn't combine our bar tab and our table tab.  We ended up getting a dessert and with tip our total for dinner was $56 (plus the bar tab above).  Our server was friendly and brought everything quickly.I would recommend this as a fun night out for dinner.  The lines to get our food grilled were a little long but watching the cooks goof around and do tricks made that time pass faster.  Plus, if it tastes bad you can only blame yourself.....try a different mixture in your next bowl and you might hit the jackpot.

I have to say this is one of the best Mongolian restaurants I have been to.   My wife is a huge fan of Mongolian places so I have been to many of them.  The nice thing about BD's is the following:1. It is clean... a big change over most Mongolian restaurants.2. Lots of different spices and sauces.3. Lots of different kinds of meats.4. You can actual taste the different meats once you food is cooked!I am surprised this chain has not found its way to the west coast.  I know one guy below said "food-court-ization of ethnic foods".... I do not know if he has ever been to Mongolia, but there are not a lot of Mexicans in a booth cooking over a round stove... so I do not think there is a "real" Mongolian restaurant in the area.  At the end of the day.. this place is good food.  I do not give a crap if you call it Berma-golian!

OK for a Mongolian BBQ place.  Atmosphere is a step above a cafeteria; service is about the same.  If you are into watching sweaty guys wearing tee-shirts cook your dinner, it's the right place for you.  Don't get me wrong.  I eat here often.  It's unique and does have some fantastic aromas.  It is a fun place to eat.  The kids love it.  However, since you choose your own ingredients, you have no one blame but yourself if your food doesn't taste good.  For what you get, I think it is over priced.

I LOVE bd's. Asian cuisine at it's best because those hot guys "do it on a grill." It's lovely. I can never find a combo of certain sauces and foods that I haven't enjoyed, but sometimes I make a plate that is too spicy. The restaurant is always loud, but it makes for a fun atmosphere. Everytime someone tips at the grill, which you stand around while your food is being cooked, the chefs hit a huge gong. That's always fun. They'll sing Happy Birthday to you too. Technically, it's all you can eat. There's a price for one plate, a price for two plates, and then everything after that is a single price. I can never finish two whole plates, but you shouldn't let anything hold you back. XDThe shrimp is very good and so is the Peanut and Marinara sauces. Always remember to add ranch dressing (in the salad bar) to everything as well. Also, stop by Coldstone (turn left and it's right around the corner) on your way home!!

These type of places are all the same. No matter what flavors you use they always taste the same. Nothing special here, with the exception of having lamb on the bar. Prob the best choice in the meat section because of the flavors a lamb will have. Other than that pretty bland and the waitress failed to tell me about the dollar draughts. I was sure to make sure her tip reflected her omission of this crucial fact.

For an all-you-can-eat buffet joint, this place serves up great food at a good value.for atmosphere, cost and layout info you can simply refer to other reviews.  I'm going to give a comparison between this place and a similar competitor:  flat top grill.Bd's MG offers MANY MORE meat and seafood options , and all of them i found to be far better tasting then flat top.  To be honest whenever I go to flat top i dont add any meat because they are all dry or not tasty.Bd's MG veggies selection is less plentiful than flat top's, but it gets the job done.  At flat top you can add as much rice as you want each time you hit the buffet line, here they serve it to your table so you have to ask for more.Sauces are generally comparable, they pretty much have the same choices.  I noticed that BD's MG doesnt have anything korean bbq flavored, it thought that was an odd omission.Service style is different, at BD's MG you stand around the grill and watch your meal get cooked. They give you the plate and then you head back to your table to chow down.  At flat top you hand it off to the chefs and the waiter will bring your food to you.Overall I like BD's MG much more due to the meat selection.  Everything else is more or less comparable so it has little effect on my opinion.   One thing to note is that if you go in a group, be sure to hit the buffet line at the same time since you will end up waiting around the chefs to watch your food get cooked.  Might as well have someone next to you to talk to while you are waiting. When I went the waiter forgot to bring the rice tortillas [don't ask why they serve these as well, no idea].  It took them a while due to a shift change.  They were nice enough to reduce our bill and charge us for only one round.  Its about $3 or $4 more if you want to go unlimited.  A nice gesture.   The waiter was also really cool about writing a separate bill for each person, easy for us to pay by credit cards

There once was a BD's Mongolian BBQ on Clark Street in Lakeview. I liked them vrrry much, all awesome and good. Then BDs closed, replaced by some hookah bar. Bah, I would never have them again. Or would I? Ah yes, Naperville has one too and we went there a couple nights ago. They are the foreign, exotic cousin to the all-American FlatTop Grill on Southport and I love them for it. While FlatTop has a beef, a chicken, a pork and a fish option, BDs tempts you with different cuts of beef, even aged meats. And shrimp and calamari. And scallops. Plus BDs has a better selection of sauces with more thought and time put into them. The level of heat and spice is well conceived and a definite step up from what FlatTop offers. The only downside is after putting your veggies, meats, spices and sauces together you have to stand around the grill with everyone else waiting for your food to be cooked up. FlatTop lets you sit down and waitron will bring your dish to you. I can't do half-stars so it's gonna have to be a solid four for BDs.

Your best bet is to come here wearing sweat pants. Once you have a bowl from this place you're not going to be able to stop and end up busting the button off your jeans. So many choices, quality, fresh ingredients. You can't top it the endless combonations of entress and tastes to  tickle your pallette. You just can't!Can't say too many bad things about this place. I really like the remodel. But the place is so popular for dinner, you always have to wait almost an hour, and the lines to get your food grilled are always daunting and slow. Luckily the food makes it all worth while!I think maybe the first time you are here, you'll enjoy the banter of the chefs while they cook your food. As you move down the line you almost forget why you were standing in line in the first place, then BAM!  Your food is done, and you can FEAST. The second or third time, however all you want are the cooks to stop bothering you with their witty quirks and their chirpy demeanor. Of course that's only because you know what you're missing by standing in line. Mmmmmm..........Mongolian Barbeque :::drools:::

I really like this Bd's Mongolian Grill. Located right in Downtown Naperville its easily accessible from the Central Parking Garage. If you can get a seat by the window the people watching can be great. In terms of the quality of food, Bd's has a good selection of meat, lots of veggies, and plenty of tasty sauces and spices to help you create your own meal. I feel like the 'grillers' might overcook the food on occasion, leaving the stir fry very dry, but overall they do a good job (a few of them even juggle and kinda put on a little performance while they help to cook your food) The cost isn't really worth it if you only plan on having one plate, but if you decide on the all you can eat then this place is a good value.

Obviously , as previous reviews have said, this is basically a create your own stir fry place.  It's a little pricey, but the food is pretty good.  It's nice to actually go to a buffet that has fresh veggies and meat, and everything isn't deep fried.  It's a nice change from always going to the usual buffets.  I've tried most of the sauces, and seasonings, and they are really tasty.  I understand when someone said it was "Applebee's attempting to go Asian"...but this IS Naperville...come on, of course it's going to be like that.  Either way though, it's a decent place to eat, especially if you love stir fry, and love to make your own creations!

Do you like to eat?   Do you like to cook?   'cause if you liked to cook why are you reading a review about a restaurant? (huh...interesting)Anywho, if you like to eat and you like to cook And you're adventurous ANd you are part Mongolian AND if you like stir fry - you will really like this place.   You get to basically make your own meal.  Mix and match everything you could ever want.  Fish with chicken, lobster with roast beef - noodles with fruit, WHATEVER your heart, eyes, and stomach desires.   Imagine you're a little kid and you are presented with a buffet line, what do you do?  You grab all of your favorite things, throw them on a grill, toss on some sauce and hope that in the end - it all will taste good.  (this is where your cooking skills are most likely going to come in hand, as I don't cook, it was surprisingly good)The price isn't too bad, I had a few drinks to numb my taste buds (that's how much I don't cook!!!) and I left there full and content.Enjoy!

The Skinny: Tasty mongolian with lots of meats, lots of sauces, and at reasonable prices.  Sadly, I didn't find the meat quality to be quite as good as I'd like (pork was decent pieces, NY strip was tender and flavorful, but lamb and ribeye, while tasty, were little shreds.  Also, calamari wasn't as plump and juicy as it was at Flat Top's) and it's very similar to your mall mongolian experience.  That said, I do love me some mall mongolian.  The Pros: + Mongolian in Chicago!+ They don't endlessly add soy sauce when cooking, like other places.+ Tons of selection+ Decent prices, esp. lunch.  Desserts were good prices, too (I think $4.99-$6.99).The Cons:- Good, but not worth trekking out to Naperville for unless you're really looking for stir-fry fried on a round grill.- Blah meat quality- Not much atmosphere--but it's a make-your-own stir-fry place, what d'ya expect?!- The crowd--all high schoolers when I went on a weekend night.  Music (pop) seems geared to that crowd, and is loudish, too.  I also went on a weekday lunch, and it was quiet and full of middle-aged people.  Lines were way shorter, too.  I recommend weekday.

This place is great! I love it! I used to go here all the time when I lived in IL.  It's changed some over the years.  They have put limitations on basically everything now.  Basically, there is a giant grill that the cooks stand around and cook your meal right in front of you.  You go to the stations and fill up a bowl with all the meat, veggies, and noodles you can cram into it, and then pick out your sauce and seasonings and take it over to the grill to be cooked.  It's a great experience and a fun place to go! I would recommend going to this location over the Bolingbrook one.

A real pig out joint. Save yourself so you can do 3 or 4 plates. A fun set up where you pile all the raw meat and veggie combos you want yourself, add a sauce and they stir fry it for you. Big selections of meat and seafood, lots of greens to pick from and a ton of sauces and spices you can add.

When I'm in Naperville, I usually stop into BD's.  The food is good, and you can pick all of your favorite items, so it's sure to fit your taste.Once, my wife and I overheard one of the other patrons ask one of the cooks by the cooking stone "What does the egg do?" as though she believed it had magical powers, and I was impressed that the cook didn't skip a beat and talked about how it brought the flavors together or some other BS.  The real answer is, "I crack it and cook it, then you eat it, just like most every other piece of food you've ever seen in a restaurant," but he had enough class not to stare at her in silent disbelief (I hope she didn't see me - I'm not as good at this as he is).

Had a great meal there today, with good service, etc.  Just had to update about $1 Miller Lite pints advertised "all day, every day."  A pint of Miller Lite for less money than a Diet Coke?  I'm aaaaaalllllll about it.  Sure, Miller Lite ain't the sexiest of beers, but for $1, it's good enough for a poke, amiright? The whole "create your own stir-fry meal"-restaurant boom is pretty ingenious.  The ingredients are…

I like this place. They play pop music while you eat stir fry and do humorously cheesy things while they make the stir fry. Drinks are likewise kind of cheesy but decent. All you can eat stirfry (make multiple trips) is pretty darn good really, you make it how you want. Want more meat? Throw it in. Want it 100% vegetarian? No problem. Not to mention a good plethora of seasoning options too. You get served pretty fast, although the waiters aren't very attentive but who cares? They don't do much and I'm sure college waiters are not very attentive anyway.I'd suggest the place overall, making your own food at a restaurant is a great idea.

I'd give it 5 stars, but it's not the BEST I've ever been to when it comes to Mongolian, so for that, it gets a 4.As far as my interest in eating there often, it's high on the list. It's perfect for people who like it their own way, enjoy the asian-esque foods, but want to be picky, and particularly dine with picky eaters. Some pros:1.  Not too pricey (dinner= $12.99, or $10.99 for no meat)2. Free all-you-can-eat soup/salad with your meal3. Choice of brown rice, white rice, or tortillas (HUH?) with your meal. If a group of 3 or more, get some of each and share!4. If you're a vegetarian, tell the cook when you bring up your heaping bowl and he'll block off and cook yours separate AFTER scrubbing the grill. How nice is that!?! I don't like the meat juices all up in my food, so I'm thrilled. No other place I've been to makes that much of an effort.5. This location serves "all day" $1 miller lights. I know, not the best beer, but for $1 for a real pint (they try to call it a small pint to give incentive to purchase a larger one, but don't be fooled), it's cheaper than a soda! Some tips for other diners, especially those not familiar with the process:1. Load the bowl with meats and veggies FIRST, then add noodles on top to overpile. Noodles tend to stay on better. Rice noodles more than the thicker kind because they tend to fall off.2. Go for the expensive veggies and meat cuts. Who needs water-filled bean sprouts when you can load up on baby corns, etc?3. Tip the cooks. C'mon. I'd argue that they work harder than the servers! I mean, the server brings you: drink, side dish, empty bowls, and check. Not too hard, if you ask me.4. Do NOT put too many spices on there. It's not THAT big of a bowl and spices can kill the taste. 5. Before being daring with the sauces, drop a little in the cups they provide and do some taste testing. I love spicy, not sweet. I have ended up making my final sauce choice to be the Black bean with a small drop of red pepper flakes. It adds the kick. Having a whole meal in a sauce you haven't tried is not so exciting. Take time to perfect your flavor before being disappointed with a meal you ruined by throwing too many spices/sauces on.6. Easy on the garlic. Most sauces already include plenty.

Good-friendly service-lively atmosphere (more for groups vs dates when you want an intimate setting)-you get to choose whatever ingredient you want-unlimited soup salad if you get the stir fry meals ($12.99/1 bowl or $14.99 for unlimited bowls)-a lot of ingredients to choose fromBad ugly-the "grill" was pretty much our food put in the grill and left there for a few minutes --- the grillers did not really constantly move/watch the food which resulted to my veggies being burnt my chicken being super chewy like rubber-quality of meats not very good (for the price you pay for the very small bowl they provide, you'd expect quality ingredients --- not so much)-POOR QUALITY OF MEATS-POOR QUALITY OF MEATS-POOR QUALITY OF MEATS-did I mention: POOR QUALITY OF MEATS?Bottom line- Run...run...run away.  This is the "bastardized" version of a mongolian grill!  Yikes!!

This is your standard Mongolian chain establishment. It probably would not have been on my radar if I already wasn't in Naperville for work. There are better Mongolian BBQ places in the city, and there is nothing remarkable about this particular one. On the plus, you do get to pick what you want to eat, and there is plenty of meat. Still, the sauce I chose (so I suppose it's my fault) tasted watered down and flavorless. I suppose I expect my Asian food to have bold strong flavors, and this was just bland. Also, I was a little grossed out when the cooks cleaned up a spot on the grill and the scrapings went into someone else's lunch (not mine!)... ew. As a city dweller, I will certainly not come back here on purpose, and if ever I find myself in downtown Naperville hankering for some lunch, I will probably just give another place a shot.

Mongolian grill my ass! Now, I've done plenty of Mongolian grilled food while living in Cali. They even have them at the malls and you get a big steaming hot container of goodness w/all the fixins you like for like $5. This place is an insult to the real thing. They should be slapped with a glove and challenged to a duel for their impiety! Pistols at dawn! It's like Applebee's attempting to go Asian, but got their info from Wikipedia instead of a reliable source. This is nowhere near coming close to possibly tasting like the real thing. Nuh uh, not at all.  [1] You pile up your bowl yourself, which is grand and all, but in Cali it's better for them to do it because they are skilled at getting the most in your bowl. Seeing as they do it day in and out.  All the beef looks the same and none of the meat is marinated. NONE. Sigh. [2]  You pick your sauce too, which I opted for their lowest calorie sauce (shittake mushroom) which equaled tasteless and you can add some spices too.  Sooooooooooooooo. . .   Aren't I doing the prep work for you BD? Why are you charging me the price of a place that's doing all of it?  [3] You get up there around the cooking drum and I can tell you right now they let the food sit unmoved on the drum too long. The authentic places in Cali keep the food moving constantly. That's how you have a high level of overall doneness.  Many of my veggies were burned and unpleasantly chewy.  Adding spices didn't help at all. I could have done way better at home and was tempted to get on the cooking drum and show them how it's done.  Move over wannabees. They served rice and tortillas with it at the table. Huh? Once again, NO! It's supposed to be a noodle stir-fry anyway so what is up with the lack of proper noodles first, then the rice, and are you kidding me with the tortillas? The only things I enjoyed was my company and my apple cobbler sundae at the end.  I'll say the service was pleasant as well and they can't be held responsible for this terrible injustice.  I'll be waiting for this "BD" at dawn in an open grassy field, pistol at the ready.  He'll pay for this.

I was here for a couple of post meeting celebrations.  It was a fun change of pace; the atmosphere was raucous and was great for a group.  Basically, you assemble bowls full of veggies and meat from a buffet, pick a sauce or sauces, and hand them off to the grillers.  From there, you wait your turn as a very animated chef grills up the bowls of veggies, meat, and sauce.  They have recommendations as to how much of each you should take; I learned the hard way that it's worth following their recommendations. It's very loud during prime time, but that fosters the social environment.  The food is nothing special per se, but it's tasty (that's the well-engineered sauces talking)  It's kind of nice to be able to craft your own meal, too - a change of pace from fixed sub-par menus. So, if you're in Naperville and want a change of pace, hit BD's for a customized, tasty meal.

As a city dweller, I will certainly not come back here on purpose, and if ever I find myself in downtown Naperville hankering for some lunch, I will probably just give another place a shot.Good-friendly service-lively atmosphere (more for groups vs dates when you want an intimate setting)-you get to choose whatever ingredient you want-unlimited soup salad if you get the stir fry meals ($12.99/1 bowl or $14.99 for unlimited bowls)-a lot of ingredients to choose fromBad ugly-the "grill" was pretty much our food put in the grill and left there for a few minutes --- the grillers did not really constantly move/watch the food which resulted to my veggies being burnt my chicken being super chewy like rubber-quality of meats not very good (for the price you pay for the very small bowl they provide, you'd expect quality ingredients --- not so much)-POOR QUALITY OF MEATS-POOR QUALITY OF MEATS-POOR QUALITY OF MEATS-did I mention: POOR QUALITY OF MEATS?Bottom line- Run...run...run away.  This is the "bastardized" version of a mongolian grill!  Yikes!!I'd give it 5 stars, but it's not the BEST I've ever been to when it comes to Mongolian, so for that, it gets a 4.As far as my interest in eating there often, it's high on the list.
