Blue Midnight is a great place to chill out with a couple friends. Their hours are kinda funky: I think 7pm to 2 or 3am. Great hookah with great addons (such as juice to replace the water). They make their own tobacco flavors and some of them are just superb: my favorite flavor is Sex on the Beach. The staff are always very friendly and are very on top of replacing your coals as necessary. They can also provide great shisha recommendations if you are having trouble deciding.Another thing I noticed is the music in this place always fabulous -- very chill. I recall hearing mixes that included Incubus, Bob Marley, Oasis, and Death Cab for Cutie. Blue Midnight also sells various hookah supplies that you can purchase to stock your own hookah setup. Since my roommates owned a hookah, we went to Blue Midnight on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to buy shisha and sometimes coals. It's a great way to treat yourself when you get tired of buying run of the mill shisha from Oz or any of the other places on Grand River. They also offer hookah tastings. You can ask to be placed on an invite list for these Sunday evening events. For $10 you will get snacks, drinks, and the chance to try a whole bunch of different shisha flavors.

For any undergrad looking for a place to relax in public, without worrying about your fake ID being confiscated, Blue Midnight is the best option for hookah enjoyment.Especially during the cold months, it is extremely easy to become stir crazy in the university housing. An excellent, unique way to spend the night is right here, at the only strictly hookah bar in the area. The inside consists of several seating areas confined to a rather small interior. An opium den-like area to the right features low couches with lazy susan's to hold your ornate hookah. There are also some murals, a couch, and a few tables. Everything under black light, with some classic stoner tracks in the background.Upon seating, the helpful staff presents you with a menu. This consists of several tobaccos with run of the mill flavors like orange and strawberry. For a few dollars extra, premium tobaccos are available. These are worth the price, as there are plenty more choices and very deep flavor profiles. Upgrades can be made for the hookah as well, with fruit juice and ice available to supplement your smoking experience. Along with these choices, a list of beverages to soothe your throat after you fail horribly at impressing everyone with your French inhale. The hookahs themselves are all extremely nice, large, and good quality. Periodically, a staff member comes around with fresh coals to keep your hookah burning. A nice touch. The management is so chill. Willing to rap with you for a second about anything regarding the business, and genuinely concerned with keeping you as a customer.Although it's hard to hold it against the folks, the size seems claustrophobic at times. However, as a whole, a great stop before the bar or before you try and buy alcohol from the QD without losing your ID.
