My girlfriend and I stayed at the Frenchmen over a long weekend. The best thing about the hotel was the LOCATION! It's in a fantastic spot in a cool area outside of the more touristy sections of the French Quarter. It's directly across the street from the Hookah Cafe and down the street from the famous Snug Harbor. We were met by very polite and attentive staff at check-in. Our room was a little smaller than I anticipated but that's expected from an older boutique hotel. When we arrived at our room we found dirty sheets and other evidence that the room wasn't cleaned before we arrived. Very disappointing. We reported this to the front desk clerk who promptly apologized and provided us with clean bedding. The noise at night was a bit much. Our room was near a door that opened onto a courtyard and the traffic through the hall and door was fairly loud. We could also hear the sounds of jazz from a local bar but that was actually something that I enjoyed going to sleep to.In short I would give The Frenchmen another chance if they get their cleaning crew up to par but for the price we paid we expected a clean room.

If it were $10 less per night I'd give it 4 stars. If you want to stay in the Marigny - which I definitely recommend - It's perfect acceptable. Our room was small, but pleasantly decorated - it doesn't feel like an anonymous motel room. And you know how sometimes when you sleep in a hotel bed for a week your back or neck hurts from crappy pillow/mattress? That didn't happen. The staff was very pleasant. Easy to find your way home from the bars.On the negative tip:We had a room at the back of the courtyard. We were away from the noise of Frenchmen street, but there were often strange sounds emanating from the pool area. A woman sobbing in the middle of the night. Dudes swimming at 6 am. Loud Alabamans eating cheeseburgers and drinking beer at many different hours. Courtyard related noise woke us many times. Maybe replace the glass doors with something sturdier? Also, there were only 3 hangers in the closet. When I requested more, the clerk indicated there were no more to be had. That's odd, right?

I stayed at the Frenchmen for a recent wedding in New Orleans since it was the designated hotel for anyone attending the wedding (with a group rate). The Good:Location (can't really beat it)The StaffThe pool/terrace areaThe intimate "feel"The Bad:Room-Size (i.e. "tee-tiny")The cleanliness of the facilitiesThe check-in/check-out timesOverall, I don't think I would stay here again unless under similar circumstances. There are better places to stay in New Orleans, but this place is definitely a boutique hotel, so if you are looking for something less corporate, this might be right up your alley.

Yes, NOLA in Summer. Of course that means cheap rooms everywhere in the city. This was my first stay at the Frenchmen (owned by the LaMothe) and I will be back. We rented the Queen suite for $99 per night. Upon checking in, we were upgraded to the King suite. I've stayed in many suites in my life, but nothing prepared me for this one. If I had to guess I would say that the suite was around 2500 sq feet. Seriously I would rent the place as an apartment. Was it a perfect room? No. But then I did not expect it as this is not a chain hotel. Yes, there were some lights out and a fan in the bathroom did not work, but I loved the room. Loved the room. The staff was beyond professional. All of the ladies at the desk were not only professional, but were sincere and kind. The cleaning staff too. Easily this is one of the best hotels I have stayed at in NOLA.
