I used to be a regular here before I moved.  It's one of my favorite places in the metroplex.  I was up at this place a few times a week during the winter. The staff is really friendly and the food is amazing.  I highly recommend the kafta kebab plate.  My favorite sides are hummus and fried cauliflower.  The tabouleh and tzaziki are also delicious.  My dad loves the gyros with french fries.  The chicken kebabs are slammin, too. When my friends came to visit, we hung out on the patio with a hookah, tea, and baklava for hours after we ate.  There's always a good vibe here.

While unable to offer indoor-hookah anymore because of city ordinances, Dunes still remains my favorite place to go for a casual lunch/brunch/supper.Dunes is a cross between a cafeteria and service restaurant. As you walk in there is a menu and shmorgasboard of sides. Generally one orders a main entree then picks their sides. With the Dunes Special($10), for instance, you can order lamb shank (or whatever) then pick your three. You bring your three sides back to the table (if you got baba ghanoush or hummus they bring you pita bread) and the main entree is prepared and served to you once it's ready. The cuisine is called Mediterranean, but mostly tends toward the Lebanese style of preparation. My personal favorite, if you couldn't tell already, is the lamb shank, and I highly recommend it if you like mutton. I usually get it in the Dunes Special along with hummus or babb ghanoush (or both!), tabouleh (which is very good for you) and/or egg plant, which I will admit, in the way they prepare it, is a bit of an acquired taste; I love it though. While you get a few third world, wanna-be Persian popstar types for waiters, they tend to disappear quickly enough and the main staff is great and will generally give you free stuff if you've been a loyal customer like myself :DWhen going to Dunes you have to remember that they are not American and don't really care about being an American style restaurant. If you want something after you've been served you have to get it yourself or get their attention, though they are always happy enough to get it for you. While short on what one might call "service" they are friendly and are not in any hurry to get you out. There are two sides of every coin, one might call Dunes lax, I like to think of it as truly casual in a Mediterranean sense. You shouldn't eat here if you're in a hurry, because you will end up being late, but this place is great if you just want to have a nice leisurely meal with a friend or two.
