Sevan GG Cafe Reviews

By far the best Lebanese food in town. Everything's great. The owner worked in the American Embassy in Beirut, which is one of the most dangerous gigs around, and he deserves our support. BYOB-ness is underutilized around here and can save you some significant bucks. The falafel is excellent, as is the kofta and Lebanese vegetable dishes. In my opinion, this is the most underrated restaurant in town.

Excellent place for mediterranean. The decor is cozy. Dining room is small with a patio that has an additional 7 tables. It's BYOB, but luckily, the Wholefoods is across the street and a C-store that sells Beer and wine is 2 doors down. Food was tasty, price was reasonable, and the portions were large. I had a Gyro plate for $7.99 and was uncomfortably full by the time I finished. Humus was pretty good too.

i have been here twice now, and i love it. their food is fantastic and not that expensive. the pistachio crusted chicken and kashmir chicken (curry creme sauce with raisins) are both very delicious. the portions are big enough to split, or in my case, take home the leftovers for a yummy lunch the next day. my only complaint is the parking. since it's on greenville avenue, it's really hard to find a parking space on a friday or saturday night, but it's worth the effort.

I came here with a friend half an hour before closing time. The teenage girl at the register looked at us quizzically and asked, "do you have time to eat?" I had no idea what to say, and asked what she meant. To which she replied, "see, we close in 30 minutes, and..." I got the message: we were going to be an inconvenience for them. No biggie. We just went next door to the Libertine to eat. This place is nice, but this is not the first time that the girl has been rather inept at retaining business for the place. If you decide to go, the food is good, it's reasonably priced, but the service is slow, and you might get turned away if you get there 30 minutes before close.

Good Mediterranean food. BYOB. Nice patio, good kebabs. Food is tasty and reasonably priced. Nice lady runs it. The grilled vegetable are excellent. They come with every meal, but it's a nice side dish.

Fantastic! My favorites are the turkish coffee and the tomato basil soup.

The food was good, but not great. The hummus is definitely much better at Ali Baba but the atmoshere is much nicer here and the service more personable.

Ok, um, whoever said the hummus was just hummus, um, NO! The hummus was fabulous!! And comlimentary! The pita bread and hummus while you're waiting for food was a nice touch. I had the falafel plate and it was awesome. The falafel was full and not overly hard, they were moist like they were baked and not fried. I have to say the falafel may be better than Ali Baba- but the rice isn't. The rice is just so so. Due to all the yelping, my husband ordered the pistachio chicken- but no one ever mentioned that it takes 25 minutes to cook. Of course, he ordered it and we waited. The pita bread and hummus made the time fly by, and 25 minutes wasn't that long after all. The pistachio chicken portion is huge, it was actually pistachio rencrusted- not all breading with a pistachio here and there. I swear he licked the plate clean- there wasn't a morsel left when he was done. That said, we have to agree with everyone who loves this place. It's cute and authentic- down to the server who had an accent and was mediterranean. She was very helpful and gave us some food suggestions because it was obvious we were newbies. We will definately be back- I am craving the hummus already!!!

Probably 3-3.5 star food, but the atmosphere and delightful staff gets this small cafe rounded up to a 4.It would have been a great place for a date... really low key, not terribly loud and BYOB so you can have a nice bottle of wine of your choosing. As for food, I had the gyro plate and the meat was a little more greasy than I prefer, which then soaked into the bread. Not the end of the world but the reason for the 3 star rating. Fairly average Greek food.Update: Recently try the Kafta Kabob as well and again, nothing remarkable... but this place fills the need when craving Greek food in a laid back family run cafe.

This has some of the best Mediterranean food in town! It's BYOB, but sometimes that's just the way to go! We had a group of 10 and walked out paying $15 a piece . . . GREAT Value. I had the pistachio chicken, which was a chicken breast covered in pistachios with a very light almost marinara inside. It was excellent as were the grilled veggies it came with. The Mrs. had a chicken curry with was even better than mine. It's tough to nail curry sometimes but they got it! It was fantastic! If you've always sort of accidentally skipped over this place on Greenville (like I had until 3 days ago) you should give it a go . . . it's stellar.Great hummus.

Come here and you won't leave hungry, or unhappy! If you go to Sevan's, don't leave without trying the regular hummus OR the dolmas (stuffed grape leaves). I've been to quite a few Mediterranean joints in the area and NONE of them have ever served dolmas as they should be: warm. These were melt in your mouth, perfectly cooked, and, most importantly, delicious. However, the two appetizers were more than enough for a late afternoon meal. We weren't aware of this prior to ordering our dishes and I was definitely stuffed by the time the entrees came.I ordered the chicken tawook, which was absolutely divine: two skewers of chicken cubes, nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked. My dish came with a side of steamed rice/vermicelli (the rice was a lovely and flavorful jasmine rice), and some marinated and cooked carrots and squash. My other half ordered the pistachio crusted chicken that was like the Greek/Mediterranean version of chicken parmigiana. Sounds odd, but it's actually quite tasty (although I did like my order better!).I would have given Sevan's 5-stars but their service was kind of quirky. It's very obvious that this is a family-run business, but the women who were serving were more concerned with whatever was on their computer than coming by our table more often (and for the majority of our time there, we were the only two people in the restaurant at 3 in the afternoon)... AND they need sharper knives. Other than those two things, my tummy was very happy upon our departure. :)

I'm a fan. BYOB, good hummus, great selection, reasonable prices, nice service, outdoor patio for seating; what's not to like? Ok, it's kind of a weird name for a place...but a convenient location no doubt! There's even a beer and wine store next door so in the case you didn't BYOB you can BuyYOB. :)

I really want to give this place 4 stars because the waitress was so sweet and the whole experience (being the only customers in an obviously family-run restaurant) reminded me of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I instantly adored the waitress, who came rushing to the door to encourage me to come in (when she saw me waiting for my boyfriend to park the car), then asked me if I'd like a booth or a table, then said with a shy little smile, "you should take the booth" in a very friendly accent when she saw me hesitating. She was very attentive throughout the meal, but THANK GOD not overly obnoxious or lurking. Perfect. Also, our food was delivered in record time (wow, so that's what it's like having a restaurant to yourself!)My reason for giving it 3 stars is primarily the location (unfair, perhaps, but my main emotion is apprehension rather than hunger when I pull up to a little poorly-lit row of ramshackle storefronts...kinda spoils the appetite) and the greasiness of the food. Yes, yes, it's Greek food, I understand, but I like the light and healthy version, not the version where they make a little indentation in your hummus AND your baba ghanoush and pour in copious amounts of olive oil. Also, speaking of the hummus -- why all the raving? This is what I *expect* hummus to be!! I've had hummus like this at countless Greek and Mediterranean restaurants. It's good, yes, but nothing to write home about.That said, the flavors of our entrees WERE something to write home about. I had the gyros plate, and the meat was incredibly seasoned and unbelievably tender -- I barely even needed a knife to cut it. (However, I had to start dabbing it with napkins when I realized that the pitas underneath it were sopping wet from the grease the meat was slowly dripping onto them.) My boyfriend had the Kashmir chicken, which was also amazing. It tasted almost like Indian food, but in a deliciously non-spicy way (hallelujah). I'm glad I didn't order it, though, because the sauce was so rich and creamy, I would have been dying if I had been forced to eat the whole thing.It was a little awkward being the only customers -- with no background music, I felt like our entire conversation was being subtly listened to by the family's grandmother, who was sitting in a back booth. Yeah, a little awkward. I guess that's what you get on a Monday night at 8 pm in a tiny little don't-look-twice junket in one of the less savory areas of Greenville. Still, there is an upside to this -- a nice sort of down-to-earthness, an escape from all the socialites trying too hard to look like movie stars. {happy sigh}

YUM! This place gets 5 stars for being the best Mediterranean restaurant that I have been to in Dallas. After reading everybody else's reviews, I HAD to try the hummus. I must say, thank you everybody! It was excellent! Perfect creaminess and flavor. I much prefer this version of hummus over the Greek style hummus. Because of this place, I now realize that Greek Mediterranean food just isn't my cup of tea. The tabbouleh was also most excellent. It wasn't over dressed like most places prepare it. Also, the dressing didn't have too much lemon which I liked. My friend and I shared the kebab platter for our entree. First of all, the plate was huge. We couldn't even finish the thing with our combined efforts. However, if I was still eating like I was in college, I could have probably finished the whole thing by myself (and feel like exploding). Secondly, these were some delicious kebabs. It came with steak, chicken, and gyro. All were delicious. The chicken wasn't dry and had a very nice charcoal flavor. The steak was seasoned well. The gyro was...well gyro is gyro. Always tasty. I will definitely be back to try something else. Will update the review after the next visit. Thanks Mandy for recommending this place to me!

Outdoor seating in Dallas?! WHAT?! I went here with a friend (his review is posted below) and I just had to comment as well. Greek Mediterranean isn't my favorite food choice, but it was definitely worth the drive for me! First of all, I came and it was outdoor seating. That automatically got one star from me. Also, our waitress was just so cute and sincere. Obviously, we had hummus. It was pretty good, not too acidic like I've had before. The kebabs were good, too! This place didn't overcook the chicken, so it was still juicy. Worth a visit!

You can view their menu at http://www.sevanmedite... Everything I've had here has been above quality. The service was great. The BYOB isn't so bad especially since there is the wine and convenience store that stocks up on just about anything. The restaurant is family owned and you feel that happy and secure vibe. You can't help but crack a smile when you see the family daughter work the register or the mother come out to personalize the experience by asking about your interests. If you are into art you'll be able to view and purchase works from local artists at the restaurant. It is a small venue but it is very cozy, warm, and has its own form of intimacy, class, and romanticism. I'd recommend it for a family outing, business dinner/lunch, or even a romantic evening out with a significant other. Here are the must try's at Sevan:The Sevan Hummus - great tender meats mixed into the hummus with pine nuts. You've never tried hummus quite like this. Its warm and yummy with the pita bread. Very unique flavor. The dolmas are always fun snacks. Eggplant dip is equally good. Now for entree's I would highly recommend the Kashmiri chicken. The chicken was moist. The curry base to it was smooth, velvety, and rich. The veggies were nice and crisp. The bed of jasmine rice was aromatic and alot tastier than regular rice. The Pistachio chicken was also a great dish and VERY filling as was the Kashmiri. It was nicely crusted and had a very unique flavor due to the pistachios. I'd ask for the special chili sauce and the garlic cream sauce they have that isn't on the menu. The waiter/waitress will know what it is. The texture, consistency, and taste of this cream is magical and unknown to many. It was something I couldn't believe ... very tasty and great to adorn each bite with.

I went here a couple of weekends ago. Prices are not too high, the staff is low key and very chill, it's a small cozy restaurant with middle eastern decor all over, there's nice outdoor seating, you can have large parties, all the tables are pretty close to each other so you'll be sitting close to strangers. Me and my buddies had the gyros plate. The restaurant has fresh gyros off the spit which is great. For all you healthy folk, it can be a bit oily, but that's how it's supposed to be. I am coming here again.

I pulled up here for the first time with my friend for lunch. It was 2:15 and we had already gone by Ali Baba's, who close for lunch at 2:30. We would never be "those" people, so we came by GG. It turns out they close at 2:30 as well, but the waitress assured us that it would not inconvenience anyone to serve us lunch. We sat on the patio and I ordered the Kafta Kabobs and my friend ordered some sampler plate. YUM! My kabobs were delicious and I had to get a to-go box for the leftovers. My friend raved about the baba ganoush, hummus, and dolmas. She was barely able to finish her plate! Both dishes, with iced tea, came to, I think maybe $23... much cheaper than Ali Baba's.I don't know who waited on the other yelpers that have posted things about bad service, but it certainly wasn't our lady!

Not long ago on a lazy Saturday night, a search for a nearby BYOB led me to Sevan GG. I have no idea how it is that I live less than 10 minutes away, have shopped at the Whole Foods right across the street many times, and have never heard about GG. Better late than never, I suppose. The hummus was excellent; the pita was your standard restaurant pita. I'm waiting to be wowed by really great pita in Dallas but it still hasn't happened. Anyway, this is the important part of the review. If you're only skimming this due to your ADD, be sure to read this sentence: the pistachio chicken is spectacular. I'd like to say I'll try new things next time I go to Sevan, but that would be a dirty lie. This generously sized chicken breast, stuffed with feta cheese, crusted with pistachios and topped with homemade tomato sauce, had me at hello. We tried the baklava for dessert and were underwhelmed. Next time we go I'll skip dessert and consume those extra calories by licking my pistachio chicken plate. (Is it starting to sound like obsession? I'm getting concerned.)The space is pretty small, so I wouldn't recommend it for parties much larger than 4 or 6. But for an intimate dinner with your significant other, a professional escort, or a few friends, you can't go wrong. Oh, and you remember that it is BYOB, right? Right? So why aren't you headed there right now?

This is one of those places that makes me a happy Yelper. Before Yelp I would have judged this place by the lack of a huge crowd and the dismal looking shopping strip. After Yelp? Ignored all of that and sat down to a fantastic Greek dinner. Being a big dolmas fan, our party of 6 of course got the dolmas plate and the hummus sampler. That was all gone in about 1 minute--Delicious! I got the kabob sampler with lamb, chicken, and souvlaki. The kabobs were really well seasoned and completely filled me up. This was a great starter plate to enjoy several different items. The wait staff was great. You could really tell this is a family run place. They were so quick with our food but were in no hurry to kick us out. I wish that we had brought a bottle of wine to sit and enjoy. Next time!!They have a great breakfast menu that I really want to go back for. I *love* Turkish coffee, so I'd like to come have it in the morning instead of keeping me up all night. My only reason for lack of 5 stars? The view from the patio is pretty bleak. Gas station, abandoned Whole Foods, and even a beggar wanting 82 cents (what can you get for 82 cents?). But the wonderful weather made up for it. P.S. The owner was very kind to message me directly about a couple of things I originally posted. I edited this review to reflect her response. She also asked if I had any suggestions/recommendations. That's the first owner to ever message me on Yelp! How cool is that?

As many reviewers have mentioned, this is a family run business. Don't be surprised to see your waitress (owner?) helping her children with their school work between visits to your table. I mention this just to let you know what you're in for. Personally I find it charming. We've visited Sevan many times and we generally enjoy the food though the grilled meats have been regularly over-cooked (the Kofta kebab tolerates the cooking better and is now my favorite). It is a BYOB, one of the very few in the Greenville area. We bring wine every time and so do a lot of other visitors. We almost always go on weeknights and there are usually only a few diners other than ourselves. I am happy to see so many positive reviews for Sevan as I don't think they're getting much foot traffic. You have to seek this place out.

Oh, How I Love It!!!The BEST Lebanese/Meditterennean in Dallas, to be sure. I love to bring my friends here, and just GO TO TOWN on this incredible menu. TRY EVERYTHING, it's DELICIOUS! Undoubtedly the BEST falafel I've ever had in my life. I can't shut up about Sevan!!The owners are wonderful and friendly, and they have two cute kids that will sometimes bring you your food. Charming! It's great for a date, not over-priced, and it's BYOB! I always end up leaving more in tip than I pay for my entree--and you should too, you miser! Why are you still sitting here? Go there now!

Most of the reviews on here about this place are pretty right on. This place is very cozy and I love sitting on the patio on warmer nights to eat dinner and drink wine under the Christmas lights. I've tried dolmas, greek salad, hummus, grilled lamb, and pistachio chicken. I've never been disappointed in anything I've ordered with the standout being the grilled rack of lamb. At $22, it is the most expensive thing on the menu but it is devastatingly good in a simple, honest dish kind of way. I've never had a rack of lamb that was this satisfying. Everytime I start craving steak from now on, I'm coming back to GG's for medium rare lamb chops.

Excellent tase. Excellent service. Really fun place.

What can I say about the hummus that hasn't already been said? Well - I'm sure I could say a few things, but it's not-publishable. ;) Sevan is a great place to come on a lazy Sunday with the Sunday paper, a 6-pack, and your appetite.

I went here because I had a hankering for gyros. The dinner gyros platter was tasty, but the portions were very skimpy, and I felt the dinner was overpriced. I still felt like I needed a cheeseburger after I had cleaned my plate. Also, I looked for saganaki on the menu, but it was nowhere to be found. All in all, I was disappointed. I will try another restaurant next time I crave gyros.

Wonderful restaurant! Just read the previous reviews for the details about this family run place. We always buy some wine at the beer/wine store next store. I recommend everything. We always get the Mazza Plate and the Kabab Sampler plate. I have watched the daughter and son grow up over the years at the front counter doing homework. Its just the mom and daughter doing the service so have patience if its busy. Go to GGs and enjoy some great Mediterranean food!
