Portions are big, prices are reasonable. Food's a little bland though.

Bland entrees, tasteless bread, mediocre but friendly service, and nice atmosphere. The bread is served lukewarm (an hour after opening, should it be just baked, or is it perhaps from the evening before?) and is strangely tasteless (not enough salt, not enough taste). The lamb kebab was not seasoned, but the texture was soft, and the pieces large (same for the chicken kibbeh-like koobideh). Basmati rice was excellent. In sum, the meat and bread are disappointing, probably because they could, with a little effort, be so much better. The herb plate was just a plate of undressed mint, walnut, cucumber, red onion, and refrigerated tasteless pink tomato slices. The doogh (yogurt drink) may be an acquired taste. Although they clearly have copious amounts of fresh mint (you receive a gratis plate of raw radish, feta, and piles of fresh mint) , this drink was a mix of dried mint, yogurt, soda water, and rose water which made it perfumed, bubbly, sour, and grass-like all at the same time.

I adore Persian food. (My #1 favorite restaurant in the world is Shaalizar, if you're ever in Northern California, please go.) I'd been eagerly anticipating a trip to Bijan for quite some time. Last night the fateful dinner arrived. All I have to say is "eh."I'll admit I was put-off by the shabby-not-so-chic interior, but the real turn-off was the mint, feta, radish plate that came wrapped in saran wrap. Total turn-off.The kubideh was good, the salad was too. The rice wasn't the best. I'd probably go back if I was craving Persian food, but overall Bijan is really and truly just "eh."

Always sit in the patio if the weather allows. Have the lamb or kobideh kebabs, excellent rice, and must have persian tea and hookah to end. It completes the whole experience. Been comming here since they opened and still have the same owners and quality. Cheap and fast persian food.

My Persian best friend and I went to Bijan to satisfy a late night craving of Must-O-Khyar, Koobideh, and Kebobs. We ordered the Must-O-Khyar yogurt dip and it was delicious, well seasoned with just enough cucumber and mint. Must-O-Khyar yogurt dip was gone in 60 seconds. I almost ordered a 2nd round, but thought I needed to wait for my entree.Next came our entree and included a generous serving of Chicken Koobideh (skewers of ground chicken) and rice. The Koobideh was succulent in flavor and very tender. We also ordered the Lamb Shish Kabob, it was also very tasty and grilled just right.Service was great, although Bijan got very busy and they started running out of large glasses and gave us short glasses, their busyness didn't compromise their service nor their quality of food. After our dinner we enjoyed our Persian tea and finished the night off buying Persian Sweets next door at Jordan.

The Hilcroft area is plenty in options for Middle Eastern fare, but when I'm craving Persian food, Bijan is the first and only place that comes to mind. It's right on the corner off 59, so it's easy to spot--spotting the huge (and covered) outdoor patio deck filled with palm trees, a fountain and festive Persian music gets me shamefully giddy. So, if you're not familiar with Persian food, most of it is comprised of meat (lots of kebab), white rice, saffron, potatoes, grilled tomatoes, lentils and much more. Nothing is spicy, but I do love how Bijan caters to us Texans with bottles of Chinese hot sauce on the tables. They start you off with Barbari (Iranian flat bread), and plates of mint, cheese, raw onions, radish and lime. For apps (though, you might want to skip out on because the entrees are so huge), you can start with an order of Tadig (golden and buttery crisp part of rice scooped from the bottom of the pot--sounds strange but is so delish!), a side dish of Maast-o khiar (cucumber- and mint-infused yogurt) and if you choose, some shirazi salad (not the best I've tasted here). For an entree, I like to order the beef and chicken koobideh (about $11), which is basically juicy, seasoned ground meat served like a kebab. Sitting next to a heaping serving of long grain rice, grilled tomato and some raw onions. Don't forget to slab butter on your kebabs--you'll be in Paradise. I haven't tried their desserts, but I end my meal with hot tea (don't ask for milk--they only serve this "Persian-style").The staff, which I believe is mostly family, is sweet, not intrusive but sometime forgetful. For added entertainment, there are hookah outside, along with occasional belly dancers. This is a great spot for groups and/or a first date.

The food is decent enough at Bijan to warrant eating there regardless of seating, but if you really want to take advantage of this restaurant's plusses, you have to spend a cool -- or at least temperate -- evening on their patio. Menu-wise, one huge plus is the free bread. I'm not sure what it's called, but it's of the Pita Genus, and it's made fresh and served warm. For an entree, might I suggest the combo platter that has both a beef steak skewer and ground beef skewer? The rice is fragrant and light, and the meat goes well with a bite of grilled onion or tomato. Personally, I'm not a fan of the chicken (needs more flavor).Afterwards, relax on the patio with a glass of hot tea, Persian style. Drop in a leaf of mint, a cube of sugar, and enjoy. If you smoke shisha (AKA hookah), Bijan has one of the smoothest pipes in town. Get a mix tobacco, combining anything with mint, and blow smoke rings till the sun goes down. This is outdoors only, which is one reason you should try to snag a patio table. The only downside is the proximity to Hwy 59. The sound of cars zooming by can be a bit distracting.

I've been to Bijan with family, with friends, with myself. And yet its still such a great place to be! The price is just right for the quality that your getting. Its located right on HIGHWAY 59. The kabob are to die for! the rice is great and I think they have free naan(bread). There are other great choices but I am kind of a scardy cat to really care for the other stuff :)The outdoor patio is very nice, it has flowing water and the breeze hits it just right. There are couches for you to lounge on and there might be hookah(you might have to ask).
