Kebabalicious Reviews

Sorry.. just don't see what all the hoopla is all about. I saw all the 5 star reviews and wanted to be part of the crowd but just couldn't do it. This place is obviously popular late at night (drunk food) - I see its popularity linked to the same reason Roppolo's is the star of 6th st after hours.. Drunk people think everything tastes better than it should be.. My lamb/beef kebab was decent.. the meat itself was ok.. nothing spectacular.. the sauce and filling also just ok.. the pita was hard as a cracker and dry.. which offended me the most here. I suppose they should get an extra star for just being there at 3 am.. but they are only open certain nights anyways and the wait sucked..

One time I ate here when I was really drunk. From what I remember, it was pretty good. I was too drunk to walk up and order so my friend took my credit card and ID and ordered for me, and the lady gave him shit for it even though I was right there and I was like "it's ok.." Maybe she thought he robbed me? Idk. Beef kebab = delish. Also it's about the size of your face. Not bad for $5.

ZOMG! What a fantastic alternative to the less-than-spectacular pizza joints that grace the parking lots of downtown. I had my first Kebabalicious experience with a friend who wouldn't leave the house without his Kebabalicious punch card. Even the regular sized beef/lamb kebab was awesome. Fresh veggies and tender meat, in a perfectly heated foil-wrapped pita is the perfect pre-party snack or alcohol-absorbing post-party treat. The staff is super friendly and willing to accomodate requests. I love the spicy yogurt sauce, which is a nice alternative to the plain stuff. I can't wait to sample something else from the menu.As a bonus, they've just added a space heater near the picnic tables. Nipple protrusion be gone!

Well really, I though I was eating a Giant Gyro, but that is a minor detail. Perhaps it was the 4 dollar pitchers at Mug Shots that made be think that. Any who it was awesome. The sauce (and I ordered kinda spicy) gave it a nice kick that you don't expect on a gyro (that's what it is). I kinda wish this truck was open all day, but I will have to leave this endeavor to late nite snaking.

Yeah still five stars. I had the chance to share a falafel with my friend and it really was some of the best I have had in Austin!! My boyfriend and I went here last weekend after getting out of a rock show. I intentionally did not…

Ok, so if you are actually Turkish, have eaten in Turkey, or have Turkish friends who have spoiled you with their delicious meat dishes..then you will understand why Kebabalicious gets two stars from me. This just isn't Turkish food, ya'll. Kebabalicious is to Turkish food as Taco Shack is to Mexican food.

By far the best trailer food I have had yet in Austin. The falafel is excellent and if you order it spicy it actually comes spicy. I think they add some cayenne to the tahini or something like that. I have not tried all of their dishes but the ones I have had were superb. These guys need to consider opening a second trailer or a store front somewhere. Service is quick and the portions are generous. Cheap too! If you are wandering around downtown take the time to go over and check this little trailer out. They kind of redefined street food for me. You might even see me over there scarfing down some excellent grub.

I lived in Spain for a year in a town called Alicante. It was on the Med. coast and was this amazing beach/party town. There was this big port and they built all these clubs on the port because in town they had to shut down at earlier hours so people could sleep (by early I mean 4am). But on the port you could party all night and into the morning.Among the clubs on the port was a kebab shop. A little room with their assembly line and nothing else. The line regularly went out the door, down the corridor, and wrapped around a club. I swear they put crack in these kebabs. When we traveled to other cities we'd get kebabs thinking it was a Spain thing. It wasn't. Just that one place. Crack, I'm telling you. Some nights we would go out, just so we could get a kebab. We would go to a club...hang out for 20 minutes...then look to each other for approval that we had done our duty and deserved kebabs....not sure why we felt like we had to party before kebabs. Maybe we thought that was part of the magicI have been back state-side for about 5 years and still distinctly remember the port kebabs and miss them dearly. I almost cried when I found kebabalicious (to get to the review). They recreated the port kebab exactly! I love them.

Stop #2 on the Austin Food Cart Pilgrimage '09 was Kebabalicious, which we have had before. The beef and lamb gyro is on probably the best pita you can get. It was not so cool and doughy. This one is hand fired, crispy enough, and adds a smokey flavor to the ingredients. We wanted this one with medium spice, which I guess is jalapeno. We found that if we ordered hot, it would have been closer to medium. So, if you like it kind of hot, order it spicy. Probably the most substantial $6 you can spend at the greater Austin Food Carts.

This place is sooooooo good. Please make it a point to stop and grab a gyro on your way out (or in town). My boyfriend and I were attending SXSW and we saw a couple of guys bringing in these huge gyros. I couldn't help but stare, and I finally conjured up a nerve to ask them where they bought those delicious looking wraps. They told us it was between Neches and 7th street (on the website it said 7th and Trinity) and that it was a vendor and not a building. When I heard it was a vendor I got even more excited. I mean, usually when it's from a vendor and people are obviously buying...it's going to be pretty darn delicious....and boy was I right. The wraps are pretty big. My boyfriend and I decided to get the largest size and split it (since we wanted to make sure it was decent) before we buy another one. It turns out that the largest wrap was enough for the two of us (we both love to eat). We decided upon getting the beef/lamb combo kebab with their special sauce. Heavenly divine. Wow, this was amazing and it's no wonder long lines are forming for this place. The next day when I met up with my brother I had to come back for seconds. It's not just good for a meal on wheels, but if I were in a 5 star restaurant and they were serving this to me, my rating would still stand! That should tell you a lot. Do yourself a favor and get one. You won't be disappointed.Atmosphere: It's a vendor on wheels, but it's what makes Austin AUSTIN. It's quirky. We sat at the bench made out of skateboards and enjoyed our lunch, but others sat under a canopy with picnic tables ( I don't know if this this a regular thing or set up for SXSW). This place is open till 3 in the morning so stagger on over and have yourself a delicious snack or meal.

Me: So, how big is your regular?Chris (Kebabalicious owner): Eight inches.Me: Oh! That's big.Chris: Wanna see it?Me: ...Sure.Cue the awkward silence. He smirks. (Melody L and Tiffany C, standing behind me, laugh.) I kid you not. That's exactly how my order went tonight at Kebabalicious.I've been craving Kebabalicious' sensational Turkish wraps ever since the last time I had it Labor Day weekend 2007. My sweet college friend, Kat, asked me to swing by. Her longtime boyfriend, who we had just found out I'd known since my kiddie years, opened the stand. Small world. Anyhow, when I got into town today from Houston, I sent Kat a text asking where the cart was. Seventh and Trinity, you say? I'm there! The beef/lamb kebab was everything I remembered and hoped for ... and more. Hot and fresh, drizzled with feta and their special sauce--along with added spice per my request--I was in Turkish heaven. Here in my hotel room, I'm still thinking about it as I write this review. Can't wait to go back tomorrow. And luckily, I was given the Kebabalicious card, so if I eat seven of these badboys, the eighth one will be free (and with a soda). Believe me when I say, I'm gonna try and knock this sucker out by Saturday. Just sayin'.

Hands down, Most amazing thing. Best thing, even better than white and/or sliced bread. The first time I heard about this gem was my freshman year of college. I was driving some friends home after being downtown or something debaucherous, and they insisted we find this kebabalicious. I had never heard of it, nor was I really in the mood for it with 4 drunk friends in the car at 3 AM in West Campus. So, 30 minutes later, after traversing each and every west campus block, with 1 damaged tire, a missing hubcap, a dented trunk, and 4 beligerent, hungry 19 year olds, we still had no kebabalicious....It wasn't until 2 years later that I finally found it, hiding from me on 7th street ( to this day I still don't understand while we were looking in West Campus for that blue beacon). The people stuffed into that trailer are godsends at all times of the evening. I've run through more punch-cards than I care to share (you might have to ask for one, from my experience they tend to hand those to people who answer all the questions before being asked as they order). Of all the times I've been rude or lewd downtown and surrounding areas, kebabalicious is sacred and I refuse to deface it.King Spicy Lamb w/ feta.Post Script: They Deliver!! Downtown area only!
by James T.
Wonderful, spicy kebabs. Falafel for those who do not care to eat animals. If you haven't had one, it is somewhat like a delicious, arguably healthy gyro. If you are downtown at night, make sure to hit this place up, drunk or not. The owner is always there, always friendly, and supposedly they are so popular they are opening an actual restaurant at some point. Until then, enjoy the trailer.

This is the BEST DAMN TRUCK FOOD known to humankind. Whether you are intoxicated or not, you must stop here and grab yourself some grub. My friends and I ordered the beef/lamb kebab ($6.00) and the chicken kebab ($5.50). Both Spicy and heavenly, what more can you ask?! Goodness, I don't think there are words to express how delicious this place is. Try it out, tell me about, and we can be best friends forever. It's right across the street from Mugshots right off 7th street. You can't miss it and if you do, shame on you!
by Tiffany C.
The fist time I stopped by this place included watching a highly entertaining exchange (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) between Farrah A from Houston and the guy working the stand. The second was during SXSW and these poor people were out of almost everything. I suppose that's what happens when you serve up street food as delicious as their kebab.I had the lamb/beef kebab as well as a dolma and both were quite tasty. The line was long, the wait was short, the price was cheap. And that's really all I can ask for out of a kebab stand.

In addition to being a Mexican food connoseiur, I like to fancy myself a Gyros expert as well. This made me skeptical of Kebabalicious at first. I was worried that it would fall more into the "street meat" category rather than the delicious gyros category. I feel I was wrong. Generally, I think gyros is shitty when it is dry, tough, and low on spices. Kebabalicious is none of these things. Instead, I thought it was full of flavor, spiced well (with perfectly complimenting sauces), and tender to boot. AND, I wasn't even that drunk.I will return here to satisfy my walking hunger next time I rock Mug Shots or any other part y time joint in Austin.
by Patrick L.
One of the best post-drinkin foods downtown. Priced at $6-9, depending on what size you get. Definitely worth it!
by Kim N.
Yum, I love Kebabalicious! This is not just good drunk food, ya'll. This is good all the time. I second that, though, I wish they had some earlier hours so I could have it for dinner... Does it have to be authentic to be delicious? Not in my opinion. If my mouth tells me that it tastes good, that's plenty enough reason for me.Stick to the gyros though... I once ordered the dolmas and was not AT ALL impressed. Not good.
by Jocelyn T.
My pal Tony, from work, took the gang here. So glad we went!Food was delicious, fun, and fast. Whatever you get will be good. Add feta to your order- makes it taste better. If you feel like you'll be coming again, ask for a frequent buyer card- soon enough you'll earn one for free. Please open a location in South Austin, like on 1st, Lamar, or Congress or something. I'm not that hip anymore and don't make it downtown very often!
by Logan Y.
Oh Kebabalicious, how do I love thee. I actually met the owners at the Best of Austin Party in '08 and they gave me a coupon for a free kebab. That was my first experience with Kebabalicious and ever since then I have been hooked. I am a sucker for a good gyro and their gyro meat is some of the best in the city. I have cravings for it every time that I walk around downtown. The one complaint I have is that I wish that they opened up earlier so that I could go there for an early dinner sometime.

Disclaimer: I have never eaten here when sober. Or anything close to sober. That said...wow. Kebabalicious is nutritious and scrumpdilicious and any other -icious words you can think of, unless they're negative. Truly. Meat-eating knuckle draggers and granola-chomping hippies will both find happiness at the little blue trailer of delight. Be sure to ask for extra napkins unless you're sure that little hottie you just dragged out of the bar for a late night snack thinks tahini-funk is sexy.

I bet the first thing that comes to your mind is that the name is a pun on "Bootylicious." I like to think otherwise. The best post-6th food I've ever had. So good I'd eat it sober.I can't say the 5 stars is true for any time other than at 2:30am, but the trailer was in the perfect location and I got there in about a 1 minute walk.WAY WAY WAY better than terrible Roppolo's pizza...

I was able to pick up a falafel a couple nights ago and was definitely pleased. Water is only 50 cents with your purchase of a sandwich, and I definitely felt like the whole meal was worth the $6. I wish they had a location other than downtown though. Good work Kebab!+Great service+Seems clean+Falafel was great (I had it with regular hummus)+Was there at about 2:15AM and the line was moving surprisingly fastAlso, keep in mind they don't open until 8

So good... Nice portion and not greasy! I would eat one for lunch every day if they were open. Lamb/beef shawarma all the way.
by Dawn M.
Oh wow. I couldn't imagine a better way to soak up some booze than a freaking beef/lamb kebab. Surprisingly, I hadn't tried this delicious concoction before, but I had heard great things about this place. Rewind to last weekend...looking forward to drinking at Mugshots, we needed substance and fast. The guys were really cool, asking us if it was our first time and offering recommendations on what to try.I devoured the medium size, with medium spice. Hubby had the extra spicy and I did some some beads of sweat on his face. After it was all said and done, we kept talking about how good our food was. The next day, yep....still talking about it. I may have to make a special trip to satisfy my kebab craving. Don't judge me!
by Lindsay G.
When I stumble out of Mugshot's at 2am and need some munchies stat, Kebabalicious is just what the doctor ordered. I've had the chicken kebab and the falafel kebab. I like the falafel better. From what I can remember the hummus is tasty. There are usually cute guys working there too. One night a homeless man made us a cobra out of foil while we were chowing down. Kebabalicious is far, far better than most other late night food offerings downtown.
by Brandon C.
Best Late Night Fare in Austin -- BAR NONE!I absolutely love this place. I go order the King size Beef/Lamb and I add on the Spicy Feta. Now don't get me wrong you can get full of of the regular Kebab but I order the King and eat half then and the other half for breakfast. The menu is extremely simple and the service is super fast. If you have not gone to Kebabalicious yet you are really missing out on the best food from a prepared food truck that you will ever have. I do not know anyone who has had an unpleasent experience here except for maybe dealing with the homeless but even that isn't bad. Keep up the good work Kebabalicious and I will continue to stumble to the window and order your delightful meals to go!

Oh the wiles of drinking in Austin. It seems almost perfunctory and redundant to give this place yet another raving rant on its inherent awesome-ness, but its so freakin good I can't help myself.Everything here is good, however, just like people and dogs, not all gyros are created equal. The best thing to get, objectively, is the falafel pita, add chicken, feta, and jalapeno hummus and order it hot. The question of regular vs. king size will have to depend upon how hungry you are and how schwasty you is. The reason for doing falafel add chicken is that its cheaper than the other way around and its the perfect combo of crunchy, succulent fried chickpeas and tender, juicy chicken. It will set your whole life on fire and your sphincter will hate you in the morning, but let's face it, you're gonna have the beer shits anyway, so buck up and make the right choice. Oh, and if you by chance don't want Kebabilicious (why?!?), don't even consider 'just trying' Tienman next door. I have done this twice and both times I rued the day, rubbed dirt in my hair, and cursed my birth. Also I gave my birthright away for my buddy's kebab. If Tienman wanted to make good food, they would throw their stuff away and rent the truck out to kebabilicious so we wouldn't have to wait so long to get our delicious on.

Beats any NYC halal cart hands down, or even any NYC turkish doner kabab joint ! I was in Austin for the night on business, checked yelp for something to eat close to my hotel, a lot of people seemed to like this place so i decided to try it out. Got there at 830pm and the only open from 9pm-3am.... waited ... menu was simple, very friendly employees there and even a heat lamp outside for those cold cold nights. Menu is simple its chicken kebab pita, lamb and beef kebab pita, or salad. Decided to go with the chicken kebab pita cause im "trying" to watch my cholesterol. came with delicious white sauce, tangy yet flavorful spicy sauce, red onions tomatoes just a burst full of flavor that all worked really well together which blew me away. devoured everything in a few mins and went off with my night to enjoy Austin's nightlife !

After a couple of days of boozing it up at ACL, I was happy to find a Kebabalicious truck not too far from the fairgrounds. It seems to me that eateries operated from trucks have a far greater chance of being awesome than average restaurants. Kebabalicious, besides having a pretty cool name, offers up the best of street food in a convenient and easy-to-travel package. The menu simply consists of five items, three of them - unsurprisingly - kebabs. You have your choice of chicken, beef, lamb, or falafel. I could clearly see the vertical spits of beef and lamb, so I went with a king-sized lamb kebab to quench my appetite. Like many of the wrapped sandwiches of other cultures, the composition is simple, consisting of nothing more than some meat and vegetation. Kebabalicious goes further and adds some tzatziki and a sauce of varying levels of spiciness. This heavy use of spice and seasoning is what I enjoy most about Middle Eastern food, and what makes the kebabs taste so good. The only part about my meal that I thought didn't meet expectations was the pita, which was a little chewier than I thought was appropriate. Simple, tasty food from the back of a truck. How can you go wrong?

BEST late-night-downtown-trailor spot! While my liver is busy being sad, the falafel makes my tummy happy...
by Tonya C.
Well, they gave me a drink ticket for a free beer across the street, so that was cool. The people in line were friendly, and that was cool, too. It was better than Whataburger, or Rapolo's for a late night post-drinking meal. I only had the falafel, and as far as falafels go, it was seriously just OK. Kinda mushy, not very flavorful, but it did the trick.Maybe I should try the kebab, 'cause this just wasn't top rate for me.
by Christopher L.
Yes. Pay attention to the rumors yall. Their falafel is falawfully good. The pita bread that their keebobs come wrapped in is spectacular! Also got the beef/lamb kebab for breakfast tomorrow. They can put the sauces on the side so they don't sog up your stuff! Service props! I am a fan of the large propane lantern out front, as well [twas a cold night when we went]Unprops to the large guy running around, flailing around for a cab. Oh Austin, our Austin.

I don't think I was drunk enough to fully appreciate this cart. But, I was at Fun Fun Fun on Sunday, in the rain, and semi-buzzed, and only experiencing fun fun wet. While usually I give most festival food vendors the benefit of a doubt for crappy food, due to the need to produce mass quantities quickly, I figured that since this place is normally on-the-go, the food would be top notch. Well maybe it was top-notch, for Kebabalicious, but I've definitely had better. I ordered a large Falafel and got a large pita filled with a steamy mushiness like nothing I've ever experienced before. Dried-out falafel is a common problem, but super mushy and over-spiced? This was a first! It wasn't the worst falafel I've had, and if I were piss drunk, I might give it another go. But I'm hoping to be nowhere near it when that happens. And you better hope I'm nowhere near your toilet!

So it got late and my friend and were hungry. We were already planning on going to Mugshots, so we started walking there. But right in front of our eye was a big gleaming yellow food cart named Kebabalicious. We checked it out and noticed it was only $6 for a regular chicken kebab, so we ordered. I got mild, she got medium. We got it hot, fresh, and oh so tasty! The chicken had a few bites that were a little flavorless, but the majority was good. ALSO AS A SIDE NOTE: use your napkins, and remember there is a hole in the bottom! I did not realize until some random guy gave me a weird look. I looked down and the sauce was all over my hand, my pants, and my purse, it looked like I threw up all over myself. Other than that the crew was friendly and were having a good time. I can't wait to go again sometime. Only this time I won't have sauce all over me.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!I've had the chicken and lamb/beef shawarma. The chicken is great and the lamb/beef is AMAZING! The only thing I do not like about this place is the timings. They're only open after 9 PM (Wed-Sat). I wouldn't mind going here for lunch (if it was open!)

After continuously missing them on 7th, I finally tried Kebabalicious. They were one of the food stands at Fun fun fun Fest. I'm guessing that since they're usually served through a food truck that my experience was authentic. Or the equivalent would be spending 6-10 hours at Beauty Bar, god forbid, and then venturing to their usual location on 7th. $3 water, $2 water, wait $1 dollar water from Kebabalicious and its even cheaper if you get it with a meal! Granted that because their prices are clearly printed on the truck itself, they couldn't perform selective festival inflation like so many of their competitors. I know Miller High Life is the 'champagne of beer' but never should anyone pay $5 for one! I shared a large chicken pita which was very filling and good. The chicken was cooked well not too chewy and the red sauce was delicious. I like my pitas warm and my ratios right, and they preformed on all counts.
