Thunderbird Coffee Reviews
by christina v.
Every time I drove past Clementine I vowed to check it out but kept procrastinating - until a few weeks ago. The staff is nice, the coffee great and the atmosphere chill. It would have been a great place to hang with homework or a book.I had the honey almond latte. It was delish and chock full of honey. My boyfriend had one of the frappes and said it could have been blended better, which is why I didn't give this place 5 stars. The food was very tempting and they have vegan treats as well. I'll have to come back for that and post an update. No more procrastinating!

I like this place. My first experience here was a wonderful beer tasting with brewers from all the local breweries, and food from several local places for snacks. After discovering their wonderful on-tap beer selection AND their sole use of French Press coffee, I was determined to return. Well, now that I have, I must say that the people, atmosphere and drinks are wonderful. I have seen music here that sets the mood on the inside (and makes it a little too loud to have a conversation), but if that is not your cup of tea (hehe) you can move to one of the large wooden tables they have outside. The only downside is that on hot days it is tough to get a table or a spot on the inside, as they only have a few large tables, a couch, and some chairs. There is seating at the bar too, directly in front of the beer taps. I would fear non-stop imbibing sitting here. They have some snacks (Rockstar bagels, anyone?), but come here for the drinks and atmosphere, not the food.

It's my 100th review. So I've decided to choose the place that I have been more often than not on a daily basis over the past year - which is Clementine. The interior can best be described as IKEA puked over the whole place. IKEA ain't bad, but it's not commercial grade furniture and after three years of business, it looks, tired, worn and dirty. This might match the floors and walls, which look tired, worn and dirty. They have spent money recently on installing new taps and some picnic tables outside (which quickly became covered quickly in graffiti - who could have predicted that?) But the furniture still sits there looking rather sad.The staff is fine and generally turns out drinks faster than other coffee shops in town. Go there often enough and they will begin making your drink before you order it.I hear bitching about the wireless router...if you go to a cafe just to use the internet, stay home and use the internet at your own house. It's a free service and not a right. And if you look at all the slackers around you that are also using the internet (including the guy downloading The Watchmen) you might realize that there is only so much bandwith. Spend less money going out and paying for coffee and buy you own damn router and internet service.I haven't really ordered the food. The baked goods come (mostly) from Quacks which I'm not a fan of, but the paninis look pretty good.

A relaxing, non-pretentious coffee bar to wile away the hours studying, chatting with friends, and/or people watching, as the people there are often an eclectic bunch, including hipsters, professors, grad students, and the occasional urban chic mom. Great coffee and a good selection of teas to choose from, and the paninis ain't bad either. I'd like another veggie panini on the menu, but I can live with the cheese and the peanut butter/Nutella they offer. Decent prices, helpful, unpretentious baristas, good, free wi-fi, and a warm ambience (not to mention biking distance from my house!) all make for my favorite coffee bar in the neighborhood.

The year round pumpkin muffin alone is enough to garner them five. I love pumpkin-whatever ( especially baked goods) and I hate having to wait till October to get any of that goodness. Otherwise, this place is pretty standard as far as a coffee shop goes. Decent decor with art that changes periodically, couches, tables, and the odd knick-knack here and there. The outside patio is really slammin' on a nice day with a good book, coffee, and aforementioned pumpkin muffin.

I really like the vibe this place has. This was the meeting point for Camron's scavenger hunt, and it was a great one. Initially we met outside on their deck, then later in the evening we went inside. There was live music which was really great. The staff there was very nice. I wasn't in the mood for food (SHOCKER), but I did have a beer. I'll definitely visit again.

I have noted that the regulars at my favorite coffee house locations frequently make the rounds to other exceptional coffee houses. It seems that they view the other coffee houses the same way they might view a favorite cousin. My point here is that even when I am at another coffee house, people are always mentioning that I should check out Clementine Coffee Bar. Usually, they tell me to check out Clementine after I tell them that I enjoy opportunities to meet interesting people and expand my peer group. I stopped at Clementine Coffee Bar at 12:30pm on a Sunday, ordered my Americano, and sat down at the bar (typically a good space to meet people). At 12:30pm, the crowd had yet to arrive and I wondered if it would, but by 1:00pm, folks were pouring through the door ordering lunch plates and iced coffees. The spaces at the bar quickly filled up and I had at least three opportunities to engage people in conversation. Had I arrived on a Friday evening, I am certain, my opportunities to meet people would have increased times three. While speaking to one of the barista's behind the bar, I also learned that one of the owners, Ryan, was in the house. I decided to introduce myself to Ryan. I let him know I was Yelping and asked him if there was anything specific about Clementine Coffee Bar that he would like people to know. I figured I might learn something interesting myself. Ryan mentioned that Clementine Coffee Bar just changed their coffee last week to Cuvee Coffee and that (drum roll please...this next part really excites me) all of their coffee is French Press!!! Yum! Although I am an Americano girl at heart, a good French Press coffee really excites me so when I come back I am ordering a regular coffee. Clementine also has a monthly raffle to win a $250 gift card!! I really want that gift card but even if I don't win, I can still get a free coffee on my birthday, which is March 7th (in case anyone else wants to give me something).

Brief: The Clementine Coffee Bar. Cute overload minus the Sanrio stuff.Longer: Yep it's cute! How do they keep the outside paint job so perfectly lime green? The people working there last night were cuuuute! I didn't even notice Mi Madre's was across the street, because the coffee people were so cute. The clientele coming in as the night wore on increased exponentially in cuteness. This may have been because of the frakking cute coffee, but I think it was because there was a band there. I heard them play the Rolling Stones' "Dead Flowers". They were a full contigent and shockingly knew to play at a respectable volume, even with a drum set (and were not playing jazz or folk music). xxxooo Extra Cute! oooxxxI never come over to this part of town, because I don't know anybody on this side of 35 at the moment except for the guy who cuts my hair, and he's usually busy cutting hair. Yeah that's right, buddy even at night. You gotta pry those shears out of his cold, dead fingers. (Some people tell me he's cute). But I digress. I deduct 1 cute star out of 5 from the Clementine only because they do not carry my favorite coffee beverage ever, the mocha soy granita. I will be going back to Clementine for the cute iced Americano and the much cuter barristas. Now where did I leave my Hello Kitty breath mints?

Good news: I've decided that Clementine's is NOT "lost and gone forever."I really had no immediate plans to re-visit following my first encounter, but when Clementine's owner, Chris M., responded to my not-so-nice yelp with a professional, friendly note promising a better experience, I knew that I owed him a second chance. So, I drove from my work way up in Round Rock all the way to Manor Rd (where I really had no other business being) in the POURING rain. By the time I got there, I was thinking, "I took off of work, spent my life savings in gas, AND risked my life driving down here. This better be some seriously delicious coffee."It was. And the service wasn't bad either. The baristo (?) was good-looking and good-natured (enough to warrant a second glance) and my coffee was made right and made well (enough to warrant a second cup). I was enjoying myself so much that I stuck around for 2 hours clogging up their wireless (which is very reliable). So, thanks for a better time, Clementine. I think we could be friends. Let me preface this by saying that my review is based on my first visit to Clementine, so factor…

Disclaimer: I do not drink coffee, so me reviewing a coffee shop is almost retarded, but I'm going to review it anyway. The one thing I hate about coffee shops is when I first walk in. Everyone appears to be stuck in their own little world: nose in book, laptop, chatting with friends, etc. But what is really going on is everyone is lurking. As soon as you walk in the door it's like a telepathic message is sent to all patrons to divert their eyes toward you. (And I'm not singling out this establishment. They're all like this.) I hate being lurked. You can't lurk the lurker. It's a very awkward feeling. With that being said, this is a great place to lurk. The girls here are freaking cute and young and hip. The patio is pretty nice as well. I just want to grab a glass of iced tea and collapse on one of their chairs and nap in the shade. And yes, I have done this before.

Now here's a sweet little coffee shop! My man and I sat at the bar after ordering. I had mint tea and the walnut, cherry and goat cheese salad. He had a mocha frappe and the grilled chicken salad. Everything was really really tasty and just enough to fill us up.The experience was very laid-back and relaxing. The interior of the shop is open and bright, funky and cozy. The bar stools were so comfy too! The people behind the counter were nice and laid-back. The music was really good and not too loud (despite the fact we were right in front of the speakers at the bar). All in all it was a really lovely place to chill and get a little work done on a weekday afternoon.

What other coffee shop is within five minutes of my home? This is not the only reason I go to Clementine, but perhaps the reason I don't go to any other coffee shops. I'm not a coffee shop person in general. I don't like coffee. I don't like random baked goods.I do like a relaxing space to get things done or meet friends for lively discussions. I like tea. I like friendly staff, and I like the option to buy a panini while I'm enjoying the above.Clementine is a great place for me to get work done in a pleasant environment.

Central location, friendly folks, cool A/C, attentive counter staff. I'm trying to come up with something *wrong* and I'm at a loss.

$1 Lone Stars on Tuesdays, and lots of eye candy, that's all I have to say about that. You might have to put up with some weak acoustic cover band though, I'm warning you now, but Clementine is a nice place to hang out, and the staff is very polite as well. The weather's not too horrible anymore so sitting outside is highly suggested.

Love the place, good coffee, good conversation with other regulars.

Alright, have to update this.. Still coming a lot and the coffee is still good. But the food situation I'm getting irritated about... I've ordered a few different things over the past couple of weeks and multiple people's attitude behind the bar seems to be that they don't feel like putting together food... My oatmeal has been gloppy and horrible every time out of the last 5 that I've ordered it (that's impressive HTH do you screw up instant oats?) and you can't change a thing about their breakfast sandwiches.. unless you're itching to start your day in disappointment. I recommend that they at least have a group lesson on making oatmeal -- please? They still get 3 stars because they're coffee is good, and I look forward to it every time I pass by. I really love it at Clementine. I had to warm up to the wait staff (who seems pretentious until you…

Why do I like Clementine? Is it the hip interior designed by IKEA?The extensive coffee and tea selection? The beer selection (coffee and beer NOT at Spiderhouse?!)?The variety of food offered? The outdoor seating and patio? It's actually the fact that I can get 10% off my ENTIRE purchase with my GoLocal card. Mmmm. Cheap coffeehouse enjoyments! Way to be one of the BEST places to use that card, Clementine!

I just moved into the neighborhood and I really like this coffee bar. It is always bubbling with people. I like the atmosphere, decor, and drinks. I think it's well worth the trip to Manor Rd.

Wellllll... I've got mixed feelings, but I'm going to keep going to see what happens. I love the location, and I loved sitting outside today when it was, um, the most perfect weather ever. The first coffee I had from there was downright deerishruss. But today's was kinda crap-tastic. We'll see what the 3rd visit yields...

Can we replace the broken Ikea furniture? Maybe serve beer in glasses? Lower the volume of the not-very-good bands on Tuesdays? Acquire a wireless router that isn't ten years old? Please? And thanks for the picnic tables and retaining the $1 Lone Stars on Tuesdays. $2 Tuesdays! $2 pints of Mothership Whit, Firemen's #4, some pretty good IPA, and Lone Star all day…

I love this place so much, but I almost never find a seat because it's so busy!! I love the decor, coffee and food (especially their baked goods). I used to come here to study, but it's very difficult (at least for me) to get anything done because lots of people = lots of noise (which normally wouldn't bother me). Other things I'm not a huge fan of are smaller-ish tables (not the ones against the wall; again not helpful when you have a back killing amount of study materials) and the lack of outlets. But I'm just getting picky now.Overall I love this place.

Picnic tables on the patio! If you know me, you know I love to sit outside. You know that a well-crafted picnic table is one of the many keys to my heart. So when Clementine upgraded to wood tables, my heart fluttered.Beer, good. Panini, good. With salad? Ok.The inside scene is just that, a scene, like Flightpath or Epoch, all laptops and cute haircuts. But outside? Outside's for enjoying why we live in Austin.

Oh my goodness. I went here the other day and, can I say, I am in love with their peanut butter cups. Seriously. I would go back in an instant just for the peanut butter.Everything else was pretty up to par with other coffee shops in the area... my coffee and hummus (garlicky!) were pretty darn good, and while the furniture did look a bit run down, at least it wasn't sterile feeling. And really, can I blame dreary old Ikea furniture when it is the same furniture I have at home? No, not really. But really, try the peanut butter cups. Mmmm.

I live in the neighborhood, so this was MY place for awhile. Since the switch from Clementine I must say that I'm sad. The staff is rude, unless you're a smoker or in the film business. The music is loud and again, more for film makers (kinda weird). If they don't have the food you've requested, they act like it's YOUR fault. It's just overall not as comfortable anymore. Just your average, plain, unhappy coffee shop.

Mmmmmm. $1 Lone Star Tuesdays. Plenty of outdoor seating. Gorgeous waiters. Delicious Turkey and Cranberry pannini.Only warning: bring bug spray if you want to sit outside. But sit outside. It's a really fun people watching spot.

I totally dig this place. My book club met here recently and it was a very pleasant experience. There was plenty of outdoor seating to accommodate our party of six or seven. I wasn't able to try the coffee since it was so late in the evening, but I did have a delicious beer on tap. My Waldorf salad was okay. I think I ruined it by putting too much dressing on it, so I didn't eat it all. I ended up being hungry afterward and going to eat again.I'm looking forward to going back and getting a good coffee drink.

Clementine--turned--Thunderbird Coffee was my first coffeeshop in Austin when I moved. As my "first", I remember really liking the place; the space was great, lots of sunshine, and the coffee was good (but this is all now in hindsight...my graduate-advisor and I had met for the first time, and all I could think was OMG she bought me a croissant, do I have to pay her back?) ANYWAY, I've gotten to know Clem's better, and it has lost its sheen. The IKEA furniture needs some serious TLC, and the seating can be a bit uncomfortable on the right-hand side where the benches were installed. I've liked their coffee, but I had an iced mocha the other day, and it was pretty unpalatable, but I'm not sure why. I just know they've given me better. The outdoor seating is definitely a great addition, so kudos. Overall, it's a nice spot, not superb, but not too shabby either. Oh, and I hate the new name. Sorry. I loved saying "Celmentine's". Everytime I see "Thunderbird" I have the urge to make some guttural noise and chest bump.

2.5 stars, but I'm giving 2 since I'm ticked about this. Since becoming "Thunderbird," the coffee has suffered a serious decline in quality, at least the espresso. This PAINS me because Clementine formerly had some of the best lattes in town. Not anymore. Meh. I think I'll drive the extra mile or whatever to JP's. Admittedly I've only ordered one coffee drink here--a plain old latte--but I've learned that I can…

I love Clementine. The coffee is solid. They have a small menu of salads and paninis, which I recommend. They are pre-made but by no means unappetizing. I will probably come here for lunch more often than I should. I think the food and coffee are a touch over-priced, but at a place like Clementine you pay for other perks.Firstly, the atmosphere is great. The decor, the lighting, the location, the music, the outdoor patio. It's just the kind of place you'd like to spend a lazy Sunday at, surfing the internet on their free wifi.Secondly, they have events pretty regularly. Movie screenings, competitions, free DJs, interesting and relevant guest speakers. I have gone a couple of times with intent to Facebook, only to walk into something far cooler. I like that about Clementine. And finally, they brew Cuvee coffee. If you like to support local business, I think Clementine and other coffee shops that buy from local roasters are a totally effortless way to do that. The one criticism I have is the shitty parking situation. There is pretty much only a street to park on, and it gets packed kind of quickly. The tables fill up a bit, but I've never had to wait more than a minute or so to find a seat indoors. The patio, I'm sure, is much easier. In short, A+ GREAT TIME WILL GO AGAIN.
