Let me begin by saying, if you don't like corporate Starbucks crap and you want a local coffeeshop... SCREW Roasters... come to Namaste! It is a far more engaging and inviting community space, with actual events and such to encourage community! How novel! It's located behind the Music Box, so it should come as no surprise that this is Amarillo's first hookah bar (leave the illegal stuff at home, though... for real). Namaste is also a coffeeshop, art gallery, live music venue, community space and purveyor of hookahs and shisha. It's a very small place, which makes the live music almost non-existent during colder months. (There are still singer-songwriters on ocassion, because they take up less room than bands.) Other times, it makes it quaint and cozy, and the tall ceilings and bright colors definitely help to keep it non-claustrophobic. All the art I've seen there so far has been very engaging and when the patio is open for live music, it's a beautiful venue. Lots of soft light and outdoor seating... trees and starry skies and such, with a nice deck. The coffee list is extensive and it's pretty good. I was disappointed with my chai having a TON of milk in it, but it's no biggie. What really makes me sad is that a cozy little place like this doesn't have house mugs and cappucino bowls. Something about receiving your drink in a piece of ceramic makes you feel like staying. It makes you feel more at home, and this is definitely the kind of place for that.Oh yeah, the lady who runs it RULES, too. And it's a new business, so get the hell out there and give it some support!
