Perhaps they are trying to attract irony-loving hipsters with their name? It is a lie! The enormous room is itsy-bitsy and should be avoided by those who don't enjoy hosting others in their personal space. I like the idea of sitting on cushions on the floor, but it gets annoying when you're wearing a skirt and your legs have fallen asleep and you're trying to get up without exposing yourself to the 30 people "dancing" in the aisle. Also, the bar is a window next to the bathrooms. How am I supposed to get crazy drunk and dance wildly when I can't push through the swarm of people by the bar? Though, it is an effective way of keeping people like myself from drinking too much and flailing around in attempt at dancing. Maybe they are on to something.

Enormous Room is one of those places that pretty much everyone knows about.  Located above the tastiness located at Central Kitchen, Enormous Room is extremely different depending on when you go.Things Enormous Room is good for before 10pm:- Group dates (imagine two or three couples lounging on pillows and just relaxing after work)- Large groups in general (there are lots of large spaces with tables that don't fill up till much later)- Fairly cheap beerThings Enormous Room is good for after 10pm:- Still, fairly cheap beer (though at some point they generally start charging a cover)- Dancing- Getting groped by strange menVerdict? Go in a small- to medium-sized group, have a few drinks, chill.  Pretty good atmosphere, but it's a big (well, enormous) room, and its coziness isn't apparent until it starts to fill up later on.  The DJ is generally pretty good, too.

Good selection of beer and drinks, good music/atmosphere, and some fantastic people watching. If it's not too crowded you can dance some, but this is really more of a lounge. Hence the couches and rugs. Take it for what it is - not a bar, not a club, but a place where you can get a good drink and enjoy yourself.

Conclusion : I am just too old for this place. And they should rename it to "Small cluttered club".Music blares too loud for me to converse with anyone and it just gets way too crowded. I truly feel bad for waitresses who always have to fight through the crowd to serve customers.First, I sat on the chair, facing the wall. Hence I had crowd behind. It was pretty much pathway right behind me. As a result, people were rubbing their asses on my back as they walked by. Not a pleasant feeling. My friends rave this place for selection of their music. But I find it mediocre. Just as same selection as elsewhere. If you are young and willing to fight to keep your elbow room, this place is it. I am not too far from needing a cane and viagra, this place is just too exhausting to me.(Exhaustion comes from shouting talk and fighting to keep my space)However, I give big, big kudos to the waitresses for their backbreaking job.

So I use to love this place. They use to serve Tapas and it was so incredible. I now just like it and still frequent it even though when you want food it comes from Central Kitchen which is downstairs from them. If you guys read this PLEASE start serving food again. Then I will love you again.

First, let's discuss what this place is.- A good place to hear old hip-hop classics, like Ol' Dirty Bastard, that Hotstepper song, and Notorious B.I.G.Now let's discuss what it's not.- Enormous- Well-designed in terms of floor planning (the dance floor bottle-necks. Seriously.)- Easy to get a drink from the teeny tiny shelf they call a bar- Any funExpect a $5 cover at the door, and make sure you wear steel-toe shoes because your tootsies will get stepped on.

Enormous disappointment.I like the enormous room during non-peak hours, when it can be enjoyed in the manner suggested by platform booths with plush pillows and chill music. However, when it's wall to wall with musky, grinding people, the place doesn't seem enormous at all. I like to curl up in comfort with a nice Patron and talk to my friends. I also don't believe ANY bar in Cambridge should charge a cover unless they have live music. And even then, not if they can help it. Maybe this makes me a century or so older than their target audience? Which is fine- I'll just spend my gold dubloons elsewhere...

This place is nothing to write home about. They have a small specialty drink list (~5 drinks, ~10$ each) that is none too impressive (think: creatively named vodka and cranberry). They get very crowded around 10pm (cambridge, on a weekend, this is to be expected) but to handle this they don't choose an appropriate max capacity, instead they crank the speakers where people are roosting and shove as many people in the supposedly enormous room as possible. We enjoyed it there for a while (1hr, got there early, 9pm) but left when we felt like canned sardines (10:30ish). I wish the manager would be more aware of the pack-factor and close the doors because, in the end, the room is not enormous and being squished in a small room is enormously annoying.

The one thing that keeps me coming back to the enormous room is how much I love the music. I usually end up weighing my desire to listen to the music against my willingness to deal with the lines and crowds. It's not even like an insane amount of people go there, the place is just too god damn small. It takes forever to get a drink from the teeny tiny bar and it takes for ever to wait in line for the teeny tiny bathroom. Also, over the last year or two it seems as though the crowd is getting grope-ier and slimier. From what other people are saying, though, it sounds like I need to go during the week. I like the way the place is decorated (when I can see it amongst the crammed in people) and if the music is as good during the week as it is on the weekend, maybe it would get one more star for me.

DJ was baaaad. The crowd was dancing -- then Mr. 'Artistic' decides to put on lame, slow stuff. So then we were in a crowded space, drinking $10 cocktails, and realized it was not getting better.Won't be back.

You ever seen the movie Garden State?Remember the scene where he takes some sorta drugs and sits on the couch while all sorts of crazy stuff is happening around him? That Zero 7 song is playing...Every experience that I've had at Enormous Room is just like that... and it's awesome. You need to get there early enough... but then you can kick back on a couch... order some drinks... and let time do the rest...HIGHLY recommended.

The reviews for Enormous Room are split between negative reviews written by people who came here during peak times, and positive reviews by people who visited on off-hours. Let me summarize:Come here on an off week night or in the midst of a blizzard as my friends and I did. Order a glass of wine, red stripe, or potent cocktail and lounge out on carpets and pillows listening to good chill music in a dark and surreal atmosphere. DO NOT come here on a Friday or Saturday night and force yourself to pay a cover to be cramped and manhandled by a sloppy crowd. Heed my advice, and you will enjoy this place. Simple.

I truly like the Enormous Room but I don't love it.  I like it because it's cozy and dark and I have spent many a night just chilling on a couch in there.  The music is sometimes good, sometimes not so, but usually too loud for much conversation... which can be ok.  The service is great, but the drinks are hit or miss.  I've had the Sangria before and enjoyed it but I was there last Friday, ordered a Sangria, and was pretty disappointed.  I don't know if there was sugar in the bottom or what but it was really grainy and I prefer my drinks to not have a grainy texture.  Maybe it's just me.  Also, a friend I was with seemed to have an unsatisfying drink as well.  Seems like their drink quality has gone down hill.  But I like the red lighting, the comfy seating, and the way I feel all mellow just chillin' at the Enormous Room.

Enormous Room makes me feel weird.I went here a couple Wednesdays ago to meet up with classmates.  I arrived at around 9pm to find an (enormous) room -- filled with people making out.  Everywhere.  You couldn't even dilute the making out people into the general crowd.  Half the crowd was tongue-locked, and the other half looked on in horror. At least the beers were $4.Also, the music was loud.

You have to kill someone to get a drink here. The inside is nice and unique and the DJ's know whats up. The crowd is trendy but not annoying. The cover can be worth it if you stay long enough. No beers on tap. Its small. I think the name is supposed to be ironic.

Hm.. so I guess I've never written a review for eroom. What the hell have I been doing..........Although I've frequented this extremely dark, impossibly crowded, reliable-music playing, odd seating arrangement, amazing people watching place quite a number of times, my greatest experience was the first.. when 3 good friends + company took a relatively unpacked eroom on by storm. Jumping up onto the couches, seats, ledges (?i derno what you'd call them) and danced through the night happily with refreshing bevs in hand. Twas GRAND. I loved it. Got a datenight? Bored with a friend? This is a pretty safe bet. If you go early, or just get real lucky, you can snag a couch to sit on (and be scared to get up to pee for fear of being overthrown) all night and watch the crazies that fill up the place while bopping your head to bumpin' music. Downside? I get real annoyed at the sardine-can-like potential (which it usually meets). Don't go here to "just dance"... there's barely room for that. Just go people watch.

Decent food and a nice morrocan type sit on the floor vibe.  Good drinks...gets crowded as the night goes on.  Perfect place for a early dinner drinks with no more than 8 people.  ANy more than that the "enormity" of the place might not work out.

Ahh yes, we did walk past Central Kitchen twice in search of the Enourmous Room for a coworker's bday party. Being enourmously small for Little John, the narrow space had warm lighting and couches that sometimes got in the way or were too convenient for those that want to fade into the background and be socially awkward.A peculiar crowd, but had fun drinking and dancing with my coworkers/acquaintances to '80s inspired instrumentals sprinkled with occasional Michael Jackson and Prince lyrics.I wouldn't mind coming back with my friends to start our night, mainly because I thought it was funny to dance to random ass music and have a few drinks.

Tip #1 - it's above Central Kitchen. Don't even try to find the Enormous Room - just find Central Kitchen. The first time I went here, I probably asked 6 different people where this place was before I finally found someone who knew where it was.Tip #2 - Don't come on an off night. Unless you want to witness some free soft-core porn. I came on a Monday night once and my not-so-virgin eyes were scarred. Wait...I'm pretty sure every night is like that here. There is a reason why this place is so dimly lit...but yet not dimly enough.Tip #3 - the name lies - this place is not enormous, its not even large or big. It's downright SMALL. This place is very...intimate... it consists of 1 walkway surrounded by bench/couch/cushion seating areas. There is NO concept of personal space here. Tip #4 - Bring a bottle of bleach because you just might need to douse yourself with it after sitting way too close to a couple that is very, very comfortable with PDA.The concept is kind of cool (I think the people ruin in by treating it as their own personal bedrooms) and this place could be ok with a large group of people - as long as the group is large enough to form a protective circle from the couple getting it on over there in the corner.

Unbeknownst to the owners, this room is anything but enormous.  Unbeknownst to me, tight pants and sitting on pillows like a scene out of Lawrence of Arabia don't go well together. My friends and I rolled up early before any cover was instituted so I can't speak to the damage done on the wallet to make your way into this closet of a space.  I should mention though, every time I pass by here at night there is always a decent line, which makes me think that either the patrons  put on their oversized shoes and red noses once they walk in the door, or at some point they start to put people on top of other people.  The inside is cool...I guess, with pillows rather than chairs.  Drinks are on the cheap, except for cocktails which are around $10.Most nights they have a DJ so look on the website to see what is playing that night.  As the night goes on there is dancing and drunken revelry, so get ready to be squished between your date and some random sweaty guy who is in the process of dry-humping his girlfriend.  What? No date?  Well make that two guys then...good luck and don't forget your Valtrax.  One night when I was there some crazy 1920s-esque band came in for a Dewers promotion, complete with flapper and zoot suit wearing swing dancers, so this place has its moments.Bottom Line: Not a bad date place, especially if you live near by.

After a mixed positive-negative first experience at The Enormous Room, I crash at the venue from time to time to try to complete some unfinished business... let me explain in the next paragraph.First time I went to this place was after salsa dancing at the nearby Havana Club. I'd met this hot tanned girl who had been to a salsa place for the first time... seems like I made a good impression on her, 'cause she suggested we went to The Enormous Room. Long story short, there was grinding, drinking, pheromone and testosterone production, and something about the atmosphere made the hot girl GRAB my anaconda. Useless  to say, I did not dislike it. However, hot girls tend to be crazy, so she would be a grabber-teaser or not a kisser.Given this background, I go to The Enormous Room to chill and see interesting characters in a non-threatening way. They now have a Latin Night on Tuesdays which is very unique in its type in Greater Boston.

Amazing martinis (key-lime and berry martinis), and cool crowd of late-20s to mid-30s on a Friday night. Super crowded. The place is a little small and in the back there is some weird bleacher seating? I couldn't even find the place because the door leading upstairs lack any sort of sign. I guess you need to be in the know.

I  definitely like the e-room. It's very chill and even though it is a bit small, it's a good place to lounge out or even dance a little. If you like a place that plays good music and chill out, the e-room is for you. I recommend going on Fridays--they usually play old school hip-hop.  cover is either free or $5.

This is the perfect place to go to after dinner with a date. It reminds me of a NYC lounge. Great place to relax with someone. The room is actually not that large, but has a good atmosphere. The floors are lined with Persian carpets and the patrons are relaxed, a typical Cambridge crowd. The drinks were not typical Cambridge though. I spent $16 on a double well gin and tonic. Nevertheless, next time the opportunity presents itself to grab drinks with a girl that I'm interested in, i'll likely take her here. 5 stars if I'm there with a date, 3 stars if I'm there otherwise.

On Enormous room - i've been to visit you many times but this last time I have two pieces of feedback.1. TOO DAMN LOUD! Seriously...we were sitting on the far side of the room away from the dj and it was so freakin' loud i feel like i was at the first row at a concern. Take the speakers and spread them throughout the room b/c when i was in line for the bathroom, the sound level was just right.2. MORE FOOD: Let's be honest, 6 bucks for 3 pieces of bread with pickled veggies on them? not so good. get some more food please! OR put more on the plate for the money.Thank you and I hope to see you again soon.

I like this place to hang out with the bf before the crowds kick in. Its nice to cuddle and people watch with one of their house drinks($$). We usually come here before a show at the Middle East of TT the Bears. Once the crowds kick in its still good if you have a good spot otherwise it can become to crowded.

In a good night, you'll have a lot of fun here, of course, if you forget the fact that u can't go to the restroom or thats pretty hard to get a drink after 12:00. But on a bad night, its reaaaalllyyy bad.I'd still recommend this place, its really different, and if you ago accompanied by somebody, you'll definitely have a good time, even if you sit down on the couches of this "ENORMOUS" place.

I've given it the opportunity.  I've given it my money. I've even given it the chance at redemption!  But the Enormous Room always seems to disappoint me time and time again.  Its not uncommon in this town for the hype about a place to wildly exceed its actual nature, but really Enormous Room?  I understand its Central Square and you can have a cover charge for a sidewalk, but the militant door bouncers and $5 cover already start it off on the wrong foot. From a drinking standpoint, I find it amazing that a bar can exist in this town without ACTUALLY having a bar in it.  Instead there is a 4x3 window in the back where people line up for hours at a time to enjoy their $10 drinks.  Fun-on-a-bun to spend a half hour getting a beer, right? The music is run of the mill.  I do enjoy watching a DJ "work" with what is essentially an mp3 player and a play button.  But what is music without the ability to do anything with it?  The "dance floor" (and I use that term loosely)  is ironically/terribly tiny for the name of the place. In a nutshell, unless you are a huge fan of waiting in lines both bar and bathroom ala Disney World, go down the street another 20 feet.  There are better places to waste money in this town."Enormous" Waste of Money.

Terrible. Will never come back. Based off of previous yelp reviews...I came on a Friday night excited for old school hiphop....far from it. Not even close. First of all 5 bucks cover for this teeny tiny hallway of a room...not worth it. The smallest bar Ive ever seen!! Smallest as in can fit two people side by side at the bar-makes it annoying to get drinks. Music? Weird....this weird mix of reggatone, and random. Not a single hip hop song. Crowd? Even weirder. Definitely an artsy , free spirited, group. No thank you. The dancing...nonexistent. I think I'll stick to downtown boston.

I'd like to give 3.5 stars, please.  I used to come here on the weekends (early because the room is actually NOT enormous, ironically) with some friends and grab a sitting area.  The drinks are decently priced and we were lucky enough to hit hip-hop night - and there were some dancers!  The vibe was pretty fun and you could dance or lounge.  It was hard to get a server or a drink because there was only one teeny little bar.  I have eaten the food here and it wasn't anything memorable.  I may have just been budget conscious but I remember it being a bit overpriced.  Now that I have moved across the river, I never come here anymore but I wouldn't make a special trip.

Hmm. No signage out front...just a door with a red elephant on it. Let's go up, shall we? Oh...$5.00 cover? This better be worth it...Erm...ok, not my scene, but a solid three stars for sheer uniqueness. The place was PACKED, I mean, to the brim packed on a Friday night. I wanted a drink but the line to the bar was not budging. Finally a waitress came round and I screamed my drink order in her ear. I'm surprised she got it right considering the music is pumping so loudly that I wasn't able to hear myself think let alone understand what I was thinking. It has a Moraccan theme of sorts...low seating, throw pillows, basically sit on the floor...normally I would not be adverse to this, but it's a BAR. That means drunk people spill sh1t all over the place. Pardon me for being picky, but I'll stand. That aside, the vibe here is cool and the drinks are good...it's a place to be seen...cause you can't be heard!

Ooooh enormous room.  So nice.  Hard as hell to find, but that's probably good.  Check for the red elephant on the door next to Central Kitchen and walk upstairs--bingo.  GREAT drinks, GREAT music, GREAT space.  Really chill--reminds me of a lower east side kinda place.  Service is spotty, but whatever get up and get your own damn drinks.  Weekends can be SUPER SUPER packed, but if you go on a random night it's cool.  Prices are higher than what I'd like, but you're paying for ambiance so don't complain.  I saw a few people talking about covers, but I've never been charged a cover so I'm not sure what that's about really.  Love the couches--if you go on a night you know it wont be too crowded, only bring a couple people, its definitely better that way.

There is something about going into a place that doesn't even have an ounce of a sign outside of it other than a red elephant painted on the door, that just makes you feel like you know somebody high up in society when you are walking in here....when really you don't know anyone, but you will pay a $5 cover to be in a place that makes you feel like you do!I hate covers so that was a turn off for me, and then this "enormous" room which definitely describes its look, since it really is just one giant room with some stage like seating areas and some booths, and then some random persian style rugs and pillows on the ground for lounging (but i wonder how often they clean those things??? this place people get wasted!! and i'm sure make out on them a lot and things like that too, so i'll pretend and say they clean them heh). But with this enormous room there is the tiniest bar ever. It is like a drive up window in size only the line takes way way longer than any fast food chain place, but the drinks are pretty affordable which is nice. Definitely one of the most diverse groups of people I have see anywhere in New England so far, and being someone who studies race and ethnicity that was a big big plus for me! But the music could have been a little better, especially for a $5 cover going to a DJ that probably uses Genius in Itunes to make his playlist.

Yes, it's above Central Kitchen.  No, there's not a sign, just a red elephant on the door.  Yes, it's totally Cambridge hip.  No, it's not enormous.Moroccan inspired decor and red mood lighting makes this a cozy, little (not enormous) spot.  I came here on a Monday because I heard to stay away on the weekends (it gets packed to the brim with hipsters busting a move in the aisles).  The Monday crowd were friends looking to unwind after work, which was perfect.  I really liked their cocktail menu and it seemed like everyone was drinking this tequila and pomegranate concoction called pieces of God or something like that.  I had a sip of one and it was indeed good.  My dirty martini however was not.  Next time I'll stick to their cocktail menu.As for their DJs, I dig the funky house music, but it was a MONDAY and everyone was enjoying their conversations and the DJ insisted on pumping the volume up on his muzak so no one could hear one another.  I was not pleased with this. All in all, I get it.  And it's very Cambridge.

Good thing I read the Yelp reviews about the red elephant on the door instead of a sign, otherwise I would never have found it. We got there at around 9:30 on a Friday night and there was already a decent-sized crowd. We were able to get a few couches, too. They must have changed the decor because there was not really space to sit on the floor.Despite the number of people, the waitress came by very frequently to take drink orders. I got the Little Pieces of God or whatever it was, and it did not disappoint. My only complaint was that it was FREEZING, even in the area where people were crowding. It was 35 degrees outside, turn off the AC!!
