Saray Turkish Restaurant Reviews
it sucks by Dave
Recently I had been in this terrible place and there was a over cahrge in the bill. Of course I paid it. I do not recommend this place, they are not friendly and there are very greedy and cheap people. You can try Istanbul cafe in new haven lot better and very friendly.

Several restaurants at this location on Campbell Ave have failed over the years. I hope this one stays! My husband and I decided to try this place after we received a coupon for dinner in the mail. We were pleasantly surprised. The decor is really cool...they have Turkish rugs, hookahs, etc. The price is reasonable, the portions are large and delicious, and the service is good. They have a very extensive menu, including a vegetarian section. Their falafels, vegetable guvec, hummus, antep ezme (a hot dipping paste), and lahmacun/pies (basically, a Turkish pizza) are all great.

This place came recommended to me by some Turkish people I work with and boy is it yummy. I knew this place was going to be good when we walked in at lunch time and there were a bunch of Turkish looking men eating and watching a soccer game on a large TV. It doesn't have a sports bar decor, though. It is actually quite nice so you could definitely take a dinner date there too.I was impressed as soon as the bread came. I have never been in Turkey, but I have had lots of Turkish food in Germany. The bread they served, I hadn't actually seen since Germany, so it was really great to have it again. The food was excellent. I had doruk lamb kebabs and my husband had chicken shish kebobs. The servings were enormous! I am very glad I finally tried this place.

My husband has been raving about this place for months and I finally got to try it last week. Anyway, it's excellent and a great deal. The service was friendly and informal, but nice, kinda like the converted-diner decor. Food came out fast, too, if that's important to you. I might eat here with people with kids. The place is big, it was fairly empty and there are a few different seating configurations that could accommodate all kinds of parties. But the food is really the best part. We got the appetizer combo and every single thing was to die for. I also liked my doner kebab with yogurt. The yogurt soaked bread was yummy - maybe not quite as yummy as at Istanbul, in town, but then the appetizers were much better here. We also had chicken kofta, which I wouldn't choose again. It wasn't bad or anything, but I've had better versions. Also it's BYOB, so that makes it nice and cheap. The desserts, in a fridge case near the door, looked kind of good. But they gave us so much food we took it home and it was a big hearty dinner for one (me, luckily) the next day.

Bill found some reviews in the local papers months ago so this one has been on the list a while. On the way to the restaurant I used my handy free Yelp app on my iPhone and saw nothing but positive comments so we made this our destination du jour. The dining room was huge but it was a typical no frills place. I embarassed Bill by attempting to order a beer in this liquor free establishment. Based on a tip from Zoe we got the small version of cold appetizer combo. For 8.95 theres was plenty to share and then some. It was a nice sampling of hummus, two types of eggplant, haydari and Antep Ezme. It was served along side a delicous plate of warm crunchy bread (which we emptied and they filled three times).Wanting to sample as much as we could we both ordered some sort of mixed plate that came with their chicken and lamb speciailties and grilled peppers tomatoes. Both were tender and cooked to perfection, each with their own spices. There wasn't a morsel left on either plate. We'll make the trip to this kebab house again for sure.
