Appus Hookah Lounge

This place is righteous. Very good vibe, music and hookah. I'd check it out if you're in to hookah. This is the first and only hookah lounge I've been to but the staff and place was great.

We felt compelled to try hookah. So, we left our cozy apartment, hopped down a few flights of stairs and arrive at Appus Hookah Lounge. It's literally on the same block! How convenient!!! Well... it was really just ok.The place itself is dark and dingy. You really do feel a lot dirtier upon entering. The walls are grubby, the sofas-mixmatched and sticky?! they play music videos on a small screen from some guy's laptop, you can totally tell the owner is young and quite frankly, doesn't quite givaf*ck. I smiled a "i can do it!" smile and sat my little ass into a sweaty, sticky, worn and busted sofa trying not to let my smile falter as the left side of me sink deeper than the right and my hands come up with a gooey substance. We waited for about 15 min and finally, sick of waiting and feeling like being HEARD, I call out, hello? can someone help us? we've never tried?! Someone comes over takes our order and leaves... for another 15-20 minutes. An employee? finally comes with our hookah stuff and promptly leaves. No explanations for the poor newbies trying to play cool.We huff and we suck and got some weak ass snakes of smoke upon exhalation. I wanted to do it like the big boys, (tons of smoke) so I asked someone to show us, and maybe adjust our tube. They did, and the tube finally let some smoke come through. Man I was hittin that! Seriously, I felt like Snoop.About 45 min later, my bf felt a little nauseous and I felt really "lifted" and we were thinking maybe we accidentally inhaled when we shouldn't because during our little walk home, I felt like puking. Not the most awesome feeling in the world to try and sleep feeling sick to your stomach. And.... we still felt kinda clueless about hookah.

If you're new to Hookah, there are varying reactions. The first time my best friend tried it, she threw up. When I first tried it, I got frequent headaches. But any symptoms you have, pass. You either have to be assertive or just go when there's not a lot of people there (M-T 5pm-8pm) to have your coals changed frequently enough to actually get smoke (which goes for any Hookah lounge), I've had the WORST customer service...but that's a different review for a different Hookah lounge. To ME...Appus is my spot, because I know the people that work there. Appus is the cheapest Hookah you can get in the Long Beach area. I went to the one on Redondo...I'd like to know where everyone actually is. And I went to a FANCY one in Hollywood, extremely beautiful...but its $20 per hookah (not worth it, trust me) I'm sorry, it's actually $19.99......and the customer service is the worst ever...there were about a whopping 3 groups in there (8 ppl me and my best friend included) we got our coals changed about once every 2 hours but only if we actually got up and asked him...and then he'd bring out one coal at a time from the back. So in comparison..Appus is the shit lol. They ARE checking IDs now. 18+ Their nightclub nights were Thursdays, now they are Sundays. $5 Hookahs.Last time I went...about a month ago, there was nomore bigscreen TV, because it blew out. I haven't had ALL the flavors, but I've had about 90% of them. For the strongest hit and a nice flavor, I recommend the Strawberry Snow. If you hate Black Licorice, don't get the Double Apple.If you want a better...sitting..
