My favorite Greek.  Firstly, the people that work there are SO nice.  Everytime.  They were extremely helpful when I brought my handicapped grandpa in for dinner.  Secondly, the food is amazing.  Compare it to Gyro Corner or any place around and it kicks their butts.  Lemon Potatoes are so amazing.  The falafel is delicious.  Spanokopita is the best I've had.  Great vegetarian options.  You can't go wrong here.

The food here is good. Their lemon potatoes are awesome. I had the falafel and was not disappointed. There was lots of pita and tzatziki sauce to go around. The only thing is the wait for the food was very long. Otherwise no complaints. Check it out when you're on Bell.

The waitress was adorable and sincere. The food was awesome. The coffee was hot and fresh. Great family-style atmosphere. I'll be back.

I'm almost hesitant to write about this place for fear of a stampede.I know this will very classless of me, but the food can only be referred to as "the sh*t" (figuratively not literally, of course).I'm a firm believer in the best foods are always appetizers and Avli not only allows me the option of one, but four choices I can get in a combo for $12.I order from here at least once a week and did so last night.  I'm so hungry now thinking about it.  Go and try it, no need for me to explain. I'm heading to the fridge for leftovers.

I concur 100% with the other positive reviewers. I grew up in nearby Douglaston, spent most of my life eating with Greek friends in Astoria and eating my Yia Yia's real Greek food. I even frequented Fontana's regularly until I recently discovered the reviews of Avli.Facilities are clean, they serve wine and beer and you can get food to go. As others mentioned, the staff is surprisingly friendly - this is very different from the run-of-the-mill Greek joints where usually everyone is flat out nasty or has the typical long faces. I can say this with a clean conscience since I'm Greek too!  Avli is clean, food is priced right, portions are substantial and free refills on the soda (a big plus for a thirsty guy like me). Our little gang went twice in 3 days since the first visit was so positive. During those 2 visits we had the combo donner platter (pork chicken), donner sandwich; Mom had a kabob special with lamb that was pretty tasty. Our little 'midget' (2 year old daughter) feasted on the tzatziki, hummus and avgolemeno soup and loved them all. Friendly waitress immediately brought out some pita for our little one to get started on so she wouldn't get bored waiting for the appetizers or main course. On the second visit, the avgolemeno was a bit more peppery but still leagues better than you'd find in most gyro joints. Ah yes, the lemon potatoes - a little different than other places with a thickened sauce but very tasty. Skip the non-descript fries (regular foodservice standard issue) and opt for the lemon potatoesIf you give this relatively new spot a shot, I think you'll be presently surprised.  I, for one, will not miss that puss-faced guy at Fontana's who would rather spend more time on the phone or chatting with the greenhorns than ring up your order that is getting cold waiting to go.

All Ive had here was the was the gyro.. but its damn tasty and filling.  A bottle of water and a gyro set me back six bucks!  AWESOME!   Im hesitant to try another other place on Bell after knowing this is so good. Its always clean inside, and looks very welcoming.  Certainly not a dive by any stretch of the word.  Plus its cheaper and more filling than Press 195, without  the bar feel. why dont i come here more often?

Realistically this is like 3.5 star rating to this place.  I first came across this place while I was reviewing Kati Allo's (another Bayside Greek restaurant).  The reviewer noted that Kati Allo's was old news and Avli's was the spot to be at - so I figured what the heck, why not?  Reading the first ever review (for Avli) on here I was told the Pikilia (assorted platter of 4) was great so I got that (the 4 I chose were Tzatziki, Kopanisti, Skordalia, and the Dolamdakia) as well as the Loukaniko (which I've ordered at Kati Allo's as well).  Let's start with the Pikilia: The grape leaves are good just like the ones on Steinway street at hookah places, the humus tasted like the ones available at your grocery store which is still surprisingly good.  The potato garlic spread was whatever just like the roasted red peppers.  Now onto the head to head, the Loukaniko.  Kati Allo's:Nice thin crust with spices on the pork Perfectly cooked to be juicyThe verdict is the perfect LoukanikoAvli's:Slightly under cooked compared to Kati Allo'sNo spicesSubpar Loukaniko at least compared to Kati Allo'sBy the way, my coworkers (3 of them) who I've taken to both places said the same thing.  Kati Allo's loud and clear.  It's like my mom says, Old is Gold. (cue the crappy drum roll)

I love Avli's Gyro sandwich and platter!  I havce been using Avli as the benchmark of excellence for all other Gyro places in Bayside and so far, none have measured up.  Anyway, it dawned on me that I've never written a review for Avli!  So here goes, I love this place...I really really do. The Gyro seasoning, saltiness, etc. is PERFECT (for my taste buds).  Their greek salad is always SO FRESH and crisp...And their lemon potatoes..YUM... I believe the place is owned by 2 bros. One is a bit on the serious side and the other is very friendly...but whatever...the food is GREAT and before i forget...the price is VERY REASONABLE....

Pretty good Greek restaurants. Their gyros are really good. The staff is a little young, but they're friendly.  Normally I go here with a large group, and everyone is always satisfied.

Tuesday evening and the place is packed, which is a good sign.I felt bad for the sweet waitress because she was pretty much by herself dealing with a full house.   She still tried hard, was very nice and got our food to us surprisingly quick despite the customer volume.  The prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge!  My gyro sandwich was ginormous, packed with fresh meat -- the way a gyro should be made.  It was picture perfect. My only gripe was with the tatziki sauce...it was too thick and didn't really taste like traditional tatziki.  That being said, it was a great meal despite the annoying 40+ singles Joey Buttafuoco guido sitting next to us with his skanky date talking so loud about his gym escapades who I wanted to punch in the face.  But then I remember that I am in Bayside and this is the typical clientele along Bell Blvd. * deep breath *Other than that, dinner was lovely :-)

Great food. Great service. Definitely puts other Greek places to the test. The portion sizes are excellent (not small and not too large to handle).

The food is good, but overpriced for what you get.

With the http://restaurant.com coupon, we got so much food for 3 people that it nearly spilled over the table; we took home maybe 3-4 doggy bags. Woof! The prices are good so that we had to keep a long tally of items to add up to the coupon's minimum requirements. Sadly, they're not participating in http://restaurant.com anymore though. But I'd still come here. The lemony potato wedges were good, and I dipped all the meats in the yummy tzatziki sauce. The desserts weren't the best I've tasted though. The service was young, fresh, and learning. They gave us no problems.

i am changing my rating to one star only because 10 months AFTER i posted my honest review of the place, I have a message on here from an upset owner telling me that my review is pathetic because I praised Gyro World (a competitor, which it isn't because they blow this place away)  Also telling me his age and that he's not a teenager?  I never said the place is owned by teenagers, but the staff that night WERE teenagers, and also admitting that they "may have had a "service problem" at one point but that is fixed"i find this amusing, but maybe you should invite people back to try the new better service instead of calling their reviews pathetic?  I'm just glad I haven't stepped foot in there since I went here a while back for dinner with a friend.  I can't say I remember how the food was, because…

Lemon Potatoes. One of the most delicious iterations of a potato. I love this kind of potato even more than baked potatoes with works. More than a cheesy gratin aux pomme de terres. More than french fries.Yes, more than french fries.Avli made  me some of the best lemon potatoes I have had in a long time. I was in potato heaven!Yes, the lamb was cooked well. And the chicken (though a little dry). The stuffed grape leaves were OK; the salmon roe and hummus were much better. All in all a very nice experience food-wise. I didn't sit there, but ordered to go so I can't comment on the service other than that they were pretty on target with the prep time for the food. And because of those lemon potatoes (and the lamb), I'll be back.
